Approximately 42,800 Available Job Openings during the monthly reporting period, a decrease of 1,500 postings compared to the same period last year.

Largest year-over-over increases in the Computer and Mathematical and Food Preparation and Serving Related categories while decreases in Healthcare Practitioners and Technical Occupations, Installation, Maintenance and Repair Occupations and Office and Administrative Support Occupations.

Companies such as ClearDATA, CynergisTek, Datical, Flint Hills Resources, Hyperwallet Systems, Insurance Zebra, Shopgate, Namely, Vast and Vypota have recently announced new location or expansion plans in Austin.

TOP JOB OPENINGS BY OCCUPATIONAL GROUP There were approximately 42,800 Available Job Openings during the February 2016 monthly reporting period. Companies such as ClearDATA, CynergisTek, Datical, Flint Hills Resources, Hyperwallet Systems, Insurance Zebra, Shopgate, Namely, Vast and Vypota have recently announced new location or expansion plans in Austin. WalletHub recently named Austin as the “2nd Best Metro for STEM Professionals in 2016” and the U.S. News & World Report ranked Austin second on their first ever “Best Place to Live” rankings and highlighted the strong job market and high quality of life. According to the Texas Workforce Commission, the Austin MSA reported an unemployment rate of 3.2% or 34,500 unemployed in January 2016. Approximately 68% of unemployment insurance (UI) claimants that are actively seeking a job in Travis County have less than an associate’s degree.
