Home Depot Center’s Battle of the High School Marching Bands!

Grammy-nominated entertainer Omarion will headline the 2010 Battle of the High School Marching Bands halftime show on Saturday, November 20 at The Home Depot Center. The event, returning to Carson after a one-year hiatus, will also feature Martha Wash of the C + C Music Factory and young artist Scotter Smiff. Each artist will perform live during halftime at the sixth edition of the charity event to raise money for The Home Depot Center charitable Foundation and the VH1 Save The Music Foundation and their combined efforts to support music and arts education for youth.

The Battle of The High School Marching Bands is a southern show style marching band competition showcasing eight of the hottest high school marching bands in America at The Home Depot Center in Carson, California on the Campus of California State University Dominguez Hills. The Inaugural Tri-Carson will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2010. The City of Carson, the Carson Chamber of Commerce and California State University Dominguez Hills are happy to invite you to participate in this community event. The race will be held on the California State University Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) campus and surrounding streets.

Reverse Triathlon will consist of a 5K Run, 12 Mile Bike, and 200 Meter Swim in the CSUDH pool.

Small Business Lending Fund Act Saves 63 Jobs in One Month, Says Congresswoman Richardson Congresswoman Laura Richardson announced that the newly created Small Business Lending Fund Act has already helped to save 63 jobs and created 10 jobs more in the 37th Congressional District. The Small Business Lending Fund Act, which Congresswoman Laura Richardson voted for and was signed into law by President Obama just weeks ago on September 27, helps to spur economic recovery by creating favorable conditions for the growth of small businesses and closing loopholes that reward corporations that ship jobs overseas.

“With our economy now slowly recovering, it is obvious that it has been from forward thinking legislation like the Small Business Lending Fund Act that have made any gains possible,” Congresswoman Richardson said. “Thanks to this legislation, six small businesses in the district have been able to secure the funding they needed to keep their employees in place and in one case, to add an additional 10 to the payroll. I supported the Small Business Lending Fund Act because I knew the great opportunity it offered for the small businesses in our community.”

The Small Business Lending Fund Act creates a $30 billion fund that makes capital available to local banks for increased investment in small businesses. This legislation, which is fully paid for over 10 years and will not add to the deficit, gives $12 billion in tax cuts to small businesses. By making loans more available, small businesses are able to increase investment for growth and hire new employees. The $4.85 million in funds allocated to the 37th District of California were distributed as part of the new legislation under the State Small Business Credit Initiative (SSBCI). SSBCI assists small businesses that are not able to meet lenders’ collateral requirements to secure access to capital. This has come as good news to many small business owners who have experienced a decline in the value of their property and equipment. In the 37th District, six small businesses have received loans under the SSBCI component of the Small Business Lending Fund Act.

Tips for Writing a Business Plan

By Peter Mehit, Custom Business Planning and Solutions You’re sitting down at the computer to write your business plan and you have writer’s block. What is your next move? Check out the tips below. They will help.  As this is a new business idea or a new departure from your existing business, work out your financial projections first. There is no reason to write a plan if the business doesn’t pencil out financially.  Get an outline or a template for a business plan (if you don’t already have one).  Read through the outline plugging in the information you have right now. You don’t have to use complete sentences, use phrases or key words. The point is to get the information out of your head and onto paper. You will come back later to finish out the section and expand on your thoughts.  Once you’ve typed in all the information you know, decide which sections need further clarification or research before they will be completed.  Decide who you are going to target as your customer. Just because a wide range of people can use your product or service, doesn’t mean you have enough advertising dollars to reach all of them. Select a specific group (age, income, gender, marital status) so your marketing dollars are more likely to bring results.  Perform your research and expand and clarify all the remaining sections of your business plan.  Add pictures, graphs, charts and tables to emphasize key points and to clarify your narrative.  Write your executive summary LAST.  Put your plan together with a cover page, a table of contents, your financial projections and your narrative. Education What to do if your child is being bullied If your child is being bullied, she's not alone. About 160,000 children in the United States miss school every day due to fear of attack or intimidation by other students, according to the National Education Association.

Bullying is a serious problem that is growing worse, and is taking on new forms through the use of the Internet and mobile phones, say educators. Some estimates say that 25 percent of American children experience direct or indirect bullying daily.

Cyber-bullying, a relatively new form of bullying, takes place over the Internet through social media websites and forums, or through mobile devices. Many pre-teens and teens prefer to communicate with one another through texting on their mobile devices. Because kids can share messages quickly with a large group of students, cyber-bullying can be especially effective in spreading rumors about a student or harassing a student through the sharing of photos. Because this is a relatively new area of harassment, many school districts are still trying to determine the reach of their authority in off-campus cyber-bullying attacks.

Here are some additional tips on what to do if you suspect that your child is the victim of a bully: Talk to your child.

Document the facts. Take pictures of any injuries and have your child give a detailed description of what happened.

Talk to teachers and the principal immediately.

Put it in writing. Put your concerns into writing to the principal, the superintendent and school board members.

Encourage others to speak up. If the same child is bullying other students, persuade parents to report it too.

Call the police.

Talk with a lawyer. If your child has been physically or sexually harassed contact an attorney. Attorneys who specialize in personal injury litigation are probably best suited to represent you and your child.

Sports CIF SOUTHERN SECTION TO HOLD BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS AT ANAHEIM CONVENTION CENTER ARENA The CIF Southern Section-Ford Basketball Championships, presented by Farmers for both boys and girls division’s 1-AA to 4-A will be held at Th e Anaheim Convention Center beginning Tuesday, March 1, 2011.

Semifinal contests in both boy’s and girl’s Division 1-AA will lead it off followed by division championships that run through Saturday, March 5, 2011.

Division’s 5-AA to 6-A in both boy’s and girls will be held at The Meruelo Athletic Center on the campus of Mater Dei High School on Friday and Saturday, March 4-5.

Division finals days and times will be determined at a later date.

The 2011 championships will mark a return for the first time since 1984 of upper division boy’s and girl’s finals hosted at the same venue. It will also be the first time the upper division boy’s have not played at The Honda Center (formerly The Arrowhead Pond and Anaheim Arena) since 1994.

Cal State Dominguez Men's Basketball Gives "Timely" Assist to Boys and Girls Club Saturday, May 1, 2010 CARSON -- Following Thursday night's spectacular Midnight and Madness event that kicked off the official start of the 2010-11 basketball season, the Cal State Dominguez Hills men's basketball team used that energy for a visit to the Boys and Girls Club of Carson the following day, giving their energy and time to those who need it the most.

Led by head coach Damaine Powell, who attended the same Boys and Girls club growing up and is set to embark on his seventh year at CSUDH, the squad spent time reading with the kids, giving a bit of basketball instruction, and how both translate into real life lessons that are preached on the Carson campus.

"We have a connection with the club and really want to reach the youth of our community early and stress the importance of going to college," Powell begins. "The more they see young men in college, they more they expect that in their own futures.”

"We try to be visual and let them know how important it is to use critical thinking in life, and we tried to do that through their figuring out the morals in the stories we read together."

Rihanna to Open American Music Awards Following her slew of upcoming performances on 'Saturday Night Live,' 'Good Morning America' and 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!,' Rihanna is scheduled to open up the 38th annual American Music Awards, which will air live from Los Angeles on November 21.

CSCN reports that Rihanna will take the stage and open up the star-studded award show, where she will perform new music from her forthcoming album 'Loud.'

The 'Only Girl (In the World)' singer is currently nominated for two AMA awards. She will face-off against Alicia Keys and Sade for Favorite Female Artist and Favorite Soul/R&B album. Eminem currently leads the pack of AMA nominees with five nods for Artist of the Year, Favorite Male Artist in the Pop/Rock category, Favorite Album, Favorite Rap/Hip Hop Male artists and Favorite Rap/Hip Hop album. Winners will be determined by online voting polls at AMAvote.com and AMA.ABC.com.

Additional performers at the 38th annual award show will include Usher, Pink and Bon Jovi.

More acts are expected to be announced in the weeks leading up to the show. The AMAs will air live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, on Sunday Nov. 21 at 8PM EST on ABC.

Inspiration & Church News Walking Out Destiny

Life isn't fair and isn't easy. God designed life to grow us, to stretch us to magnify that which He has placed within us. Each of us has something different, but each of us bring a rich perspective to life's tapestry - if we will but birth who we were meant to be. Each of us are called and we must resist the urge to hide in fear from who we really are. We must walk into our destiny with arms open wide...knowing that we have a work and must perform it, for this is why we live...

There are people I know that live resolutely in their destiny...they simply can't help it. They are walking magnification of who they were meant to be. They radiate the fullness of their gifting. How precious this is!

And yet, some of us resist the fullness of destiny. We negotiate, make deals, go dormant...we want the simplicity of routine...being magnified is a scary Providing underprivileged young ladies with dresses for prom and place....yet, when mouth opened....pen flowing...we can't help but allow the other formal occasions. intensity of our gifting to seep out....we feel at home..this freeness nurtures us and everyone around us.....eventually the haters show up.."Who does she think Check them out on FACEBOOK SHE is?" , they mock! "She's not all that!" Those of tender hearts can be wounded by the callousness of such people....it can force them deeper into silence...until the gifting is shut down, locked up and left to the cobwebs in the darkened corners of our lives. At these locked down times we are unfruitful and weak. We have lost our salt. We can't nurture properly because we are an imitation of who we were meant to be. We die a little every day, because we aren't truly living. We have given haters power....and that simply won’t do!

Life lessons have taught me that we must ALL make manifest the gifting that is within us. Sometimes it’s inconvenient, but it is always profitable. Sometimes it is costly to our relationships, but we are always blessed for the sacrifice. Sometimes we have to move beyond our fears of the haters, because we have the potential to open the door of freedom to those that our gifting feeds.

Walking out your destiny will cost you. It will challenge you because there is an energy that wants to keep people from really knowing who they are...and it will fight you. It will challenge you, confront you, insult you, rip you, and try to kill you...because you represent freedom to a lost soul. You represent a changed mind, a changed heart to generations that exist in the one you're feeding. Your one connection can change a family, can change a neighborhood, can change the world. All because of you! All because you were willing!

Life lessons have taught me that we must ALL make manifest the gifting that is within us. Sometimes we have to move beyond our fears of the haters, because we have the potential to open the door of freedom to those that our gifting feeds.

This is the time for self-examination. Am I embracing all that I must become?

Or have I allowed haters to silence my message? Have I learned to walk in the boldness of my knowingness, or have I caved to pressure?

Let us choose to run towards our destiny....full throttle! Let's not waste our lives away focused on little, meaningless things, forgetting that we are here to inspire a life. We are here to give a moment of love that says "you too are worthy, by virtue of being alive alone!"

My father always said, "Gina, don't be afraid. Don't walk in fear." I never really understood why he often said that to me. Yet as an adult, I have learned he saw in me what I didn't see as a young, free girl. I had tremendous talent, I was free in spirit and could do almost anything without effort....but he knew the day would come when the bigness of who he saw I could become, would even scare me. My father is now gone, but his lessons remain with me.

I am coming up on my Jubilee year - 50. It is a season of change, a season of pardon, of new beginnings....time to walk resolutely in the fullness of the promises that rests within me. Not from a prideful place....but from a place of knowing clearly what I'm called to do. It is a year to release others to the fullness of who they are to be, while loving them completely as we walk our individual journey. Big changes are on the horizon, but great freedom is available there. Pray for His success in my life for this coming year. The little girl still resides there, lurking in the shadows of questions. I need not own greatness, but walk out His work for my life. Real Estate Using Rent to Own as an Option

As we have hit hard times in the market, the time has come for homeowners that are looking to sell their property to think creatively. If their home is just sitting on the market, they should begin considering Rent to Own. A Rent to Own would immediately free them from their payments by having a qualified tenant buyer in the home that makes monthly payments, does repairs, and takes good care of their home as if it were their own, as at some point in the near future, it just may well be if they decide to exercise an option to purchase the home at a predetermined price and during a predetermined period of time. Additionally, as homes for sale by owner (FSBO) are everywhere you look, few sellers realize the benefits of rent to own or lease purchase (perfect for FSBO sellers with a home that needs repairs, a home with zero, little or negative equity, or a house in a buyer’s market).

If your home is available as a rent to own home, it will increase the demand, as there is no database that has all the rent to own homes listed. Nine times out of ten lease option homes will not be listed on the MLS. Overall, the best thing to keep in mind is that the more options that you offer a prospective buyer, the better off you will be. If they begin as a tenant, and in 12-24 months, they become a buyer, all the while covering your mortgage and caring for your home, is that such a bad thing in today's market?

These are questions that you need to ask yourself if you want to move your home. If you are going to venture into this with a real estate agent, tell them exactly what you want, and have them work for you. Have them list your home as a Sale or Lease Option (same as rent to own), and let them show you the paperwork and go over it in more detail with you. If you decide to venture it alone, discuss it with your attorney so they provide you with the proper paperwork needed to do this in your state. WARM BACON POTATO SALAD Vinaigrette: 1/2 cup white wine vinegar 1 tablespoon coarse-grained mustard 1 tablespoon sugar Directions For the vinaigrette: Mix all the ingredients together in a small bowl and set aside.

2 1/2 pounds red potatoes, diced into 1-inch cubes Salt 6 bacon slices, chopped 1 medium sized red onion, diced Freshly ground black pepper 2 cloves garlic, chopped 1/4 cup freshly chopped dill leaves, plus more for garnish Add potatoes to pot of salted cold water. Bring to a boil, over high heat, then reduce heat to a simmer and cook for 20 minutes until tender. Drain and place in a large bowl. Cover with foil to keep warm, if necessary.

Add bacon to large saute pan and cook until crisp over medium heat. Remove to a paper towel-lined sheet tray and reserve. Add onion, dash of pepper and garlic to bacon grease and sautĂŠ until tender, about 3 minutes. Add vinaigrette to vegetables. Let cook until reduced and thickened, about 2 to 3 minutes.

Add potatoes, dill and bacon to the pan and toss to coat with dressing. Allow to cook for 3 minutes. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Transfer potato salad to a serving platter and sprinkle with chopped fresh dill.
