MINISTRY PROFILE: Antioch Church of Long Beach Antioch Church of Long Beach has been a beacon of light in the local community of Long Beach, California. On January 10, 1961 ReverPastor Wayne Chaney, Jr. and First Lady Myesha Chaney
end and Mrs. Joe Chaney, Jr., along with five other people in their home laid the foundation of Antioch Church of Long Beach. Under the dynamic and inspirational leadership of Rever-
end Joe Chaney, Antioch’s membership grew rapidly, necessitating the need to move from a rented room on the third floor of Morgan Hall on Eighth and Locust in downtown Long Beach. With less than 50 members and a treasury almost empty, an “impossible dream” came true. The church by faith purchased the church building and property located at 16th and Gundry where it currently stands. On the third Sunday in August of 1961, Antioch Missionary Baptist Church held its first service in the new building with Dr. Timothy Chambers, Sr. as the guest preacher. Antioch’s membership grew from five in 1961, to a membership of over 2,500. The first building site was remodeled in 1975, and in 1984 Antioch was rebuilt, adding educational spaces for Sunday School and Discipleship classes, a dining facility and meeting rooms available for use by various community organizations. Five tips to make the benefits of working from home work for you (BPT) The work-from-home movement
has gained so much steam, there is now a Telework Week, which will be held this year from March 3 to 7 to encourage companies to give it a try. However, many businesses remain concerned that if employees work from home, productivity may suffer. To help businesses and employees ensure that time spent working from home does not hamper productivity, follow these five tips. * Answer the phone. Not answering your phone while teleworking makes you look bad because coworkers will speculate you’re not being productive. OfficeSuite offers mobile twinning that will ring two phones simultaneously so you never miss a call.
* Ensure you have the right tools to
do the job. Encourage your business’s leaders to use modern technology to the fullest through a communications system that seamlessly integrates the office with employees’ homes. OfficeSuite by Broadview Networks makes working from home easier than ever by essentially turning any phone into a “work phone.” Ring groups provide the functionality of two lines for the price of one and the digital receptionist can be used to answer calls and route them to voice mail, a mobile phone or any other phone in the world, depending on your
* Set projects aside for teleworking. Some projects cater more easily to telework than others. As you plan out your work week, deadlines obviously take center stage, but after that, look at your projects and determine which ones can be done at home. Identifying those projects and capitalizing on the opportunity will make your telework time more productive. * Keep your team on the same page. By using cloud-based document storage solutions like Google Drive, collaboration among team members in different locations becomes much easier. A solution that manages workflow and tracks edits and feedback within documents lets team members see the status of a project in real time.
* Keep your surroundings to yourself. Good natured grumbling will only remain good natured for so long if you constantly remind your coworkers you’re working from the deck or next to the pool. Being cozy has its benefits over cube life but that doesn’t mean those stuck in the office want to hear about it, especially if they had to go out in the cold or sit in rush hour traffic.
Orange is the New Black is Back--Celebrate with These #OITNB-Inspired Beauty Treatments Sure, it's supposed to be a gorgeous, 80-degree weekend, blah, blah, blah. But for fans of Netflix's Orange Is the New Black, the next few days will be all about bingewatching the show's second season. So while you're couch-bound for the next 48 hours, work in a few of these beauty treatments inspired by the show's characters. Paint your nails orange…or black. No explanation needed. Chanel nail polish in Orange Fizzis the perfect summery pedicure shade--but if you're in more of a Nicky-badass kind of mood, go black with Chanel nail polish in Black Satin instead. Do a color-protective treatment. What does hair color have to do with OITNB? In addition to creator Jenji Kohan's famous bright blue shade, one of the main characters is named for her fiery locks. Take care of your color by doing an at-home gloss treatment (slather John Frieda Clear Shine Luminous Glaze over your hair, watch an episode, then rinse it out after) for tons of shine or use a color-depositing conditioner to refresh your shade.
We heart our dandelions Taylor Schilling, Uzo Aduba and Danielle Brooks. #OITNB
Depuff your under-eyes. Call it the anti-Crazy-Eyes. Apply stick-on treatment patches, like Skyn Iceland Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels, which brighten and perk up eyes after just one use.
