Ronnie Laws will lead the lineline-up for the City of Carson's Carson's EndEnd-ofof-Summer Jazz Festival scheduled , October 6 Ronnie Laws’ name is virtually synonymous with good music. True Laws fans know, this gifted contemporary music artist is by no means a new comer to the business. A native of Houston, Texas, born October 3, 1950, the third in a famous line of four musicians that include his classically trained Jazz flautist brother, Hubert, and his vocalist sisters, Eloise and Debra. Laws taught himself to play alto saxophone at the age of eleven, and after an eye injury sidelined early dreams of a career in professional baseball, partially to fulfill his mom’s dream of playing the horn, his instrument became his all-consuming passion. He studied music in High School, at Stephen F. Austin State and Texas Southern University, developing a progressive mastery and technique.

In 1972, he joined the fledgling group Earth, Wind & Fire, playing saxophone and flute on their album "Last Days And Time". He left the band soon afterwards, long before they achieved their huge commercial success. In 1975, he began his solo career with the album "Pressure Sensitive", on which his most famous instrumental song, "Always There", was included. It became an instant jazz-funk classic, covered by numerous artists. Laws has also recorded with numerous other artists, including Arthur Adams, Howard Hewett, Ramsey Lewis, Jeff Lorber, Hugh Masekela, Alphonse Mouzon, David Sea, and Sister Sledge. The festival will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Anderson Park located at 19101 S. Wilmington Ave. in Carson. The event is open to the public and admission is free. Aside from non-stop jazz entertainment, the festival will also feature a wide variety of food, crafts and display booths, a kiddie area with carnival games, contests and various stage activities. The City of Carson’s End-of-Summer Jazz Festival is the longest running event in Carson. The jazz festival draws a huge crowd from all over the South Bay each year, having top billed performers such as Barbara Morrison, Loose Ends, Angela Bofill, and other big names in the jazz music industry. The Jazz Festival is a sponsored event by the Carson Citizens Cultural Foundation, the African American Empowerment Coalition and the City of Carson.
