Author Earnest Harris Set for Booksigning in Rancho Cucamonga Earnest Harris has written for some of the leading newspapers and magazines in the country. His directorial film debut, “A Simple Promise,” achieved national distribution and he has two others slated for production in the coming two years. He oversees three companies he co-founded, Marlo Entertainment, Marlo Productions and Harris Image Management, and has also handled publicity and public relations for some of the biggest clients in the world. The City of Fontana Mayor and City Council are pleased to announce a balanced budget for fiscal year 2011/2012. The budget projects stability in this community and the City Council are very proud to approve a budget that maintains current staffing levels. Over the past three years, however, the City Council was forced to reduce staffing by 71 full-time positions or 11%, which included layoffs, early retirements and the elimination of vacant positions. Part of the way we were fortunate enough to maintain the City staffing level this year was through employee concessions. Negotiations have been completed with all but one labor group. Council Member John Roberts stated, “This budget was not possible without the goodwill and sacrifices of the employees.” READ MORE

San Bernardino’s government access channel receives nine industry awards The Economic Development Agency of San Bernardino, the city’s redevelopment agency, is pleased to announce that Inland Empire Media Group (IEMG) recently received nine Star Awards from the National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors (NATOA), State of California and Nevada Chapter (SCAN). The awards were presented at SCAN NATOA’s annual spring conference held on June 2. The Star Awards recognize excellence in government TV programming. Each year, hundreds of government TV stations and public access centers from California, Nevada and Arizona compete in 21 categories for honors. “Our media group staff has done an excellent job in producing high-quality, interesting programs this past year,” said Emil Marzullo, Economic Development Agency interim executive director. “We are extremely pleased that among the hundreds of cities to participate, our station was recognized in nine of 21 categories.” IEMG’s governmental access channel took home nine awards: four 1st place awards; four 2nd place awards and one 3rd place award. IEMG won first place awards in the following categories: ■Overall Excellence (Mid-range budget) ■Community Event (Route 66 2010 Highlights) ■Magazine (Access Rewind) ■PSA (Route 66 Rendezvous Commercial) IEMG consists of three channels, a government access, a public access and an upcoming educational channel. Health Careers Team Captures Top National Medals Mt. SAC's Health Occupations Students of America team has done it again! Rivaling against some 7,000 competitors from across the nation, all 10 Mt. SAC participants ranked among the top finalists at the recent HOSA National Leadership Conference in Anaheim. In addition, the Mt. SAC team won four silver and three bronze medals in Creative Problem Solving.
UCR Athletics Hall of Fame Gatewood Is Budweiser Responsibility Matters Good Sport of the Month Anheuser-Busch has teamed up with the UC Riverside Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and chosen women's track and field athlete Ashley Gatewood as the June recipient of the "Budweiser Responsibility Matters Good Sport of the Month." The Montclair, CA native was named Big West Women's Field Athlete of the Year for 2011 after scoring 20 of the Highlanders 97 points at the conference meet in May. She finished first in the javelin, second in the hammer throw and seventh in the shot put. Ontario Museum of History & Art Hosting Smithsonian Exhibit: Bittersweet Harvest: The Bracero Program 1942-1964 The Bracero Program, 1942-1964 Dependence on Mexican labor has been a source of great opportunity as well as great conflict for Mexicans and Americans. In 1942, facing labor shortages caused by World War II, the United States initiated a series of agreements with Mexico to recruit Mexican men to work on U.S. farms and railroads. These agreements became known as the bracero program. (Bracero is a term used in Mexico for a manual laborer.) Between 1942 and 1964, an estimated two million Mexican men came to the United States on short-term labor contracts. A little-known chapter of American and Mexican history, the bracero program touched the lives of countless men, women, families, and communities. Both bitter and sweet, the bracero experience tells a story of exploitation but also of opportunity. This is a multi-faceted exhibition about the largest guest worker program in United States history including both the exploitation and opportunity it brought to millions of Mexican nationals, examined through powerful photographs by Leonard Nadel, explanatory text, and audio excerpts from bracero oral histories. Bittersweet Harvest: The Bracero Program, 1942-1964, was developed by the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History and circulated by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service. This exhibition received Federal support from the Latino Initiatives Pool, administered by the Smithsonian Latino Center. Yelp Review So I was craving Italian food and did not want to go to one of those chain restaurants.. We found this place on yelp and decided to give it a shot. Glad we did! The ambience in this place is very nice. It is casual yet elegant dining. The service was great. Very friendly and personable. A man named Luigi kept coming by our table to make sure we were happy. He even gave us a little history on the place when he found out it was our first time there. They have a nice wine list as well as a full bar. Check it out! I was pleased with my White Riesling. Our party ordered the Calamari appetizer, Penne alla Vodka, Eggplant Parmigiana, and Pepperoni Pizza. Everything was really good! I was especially happy with the Eggplant Parmigiana. It was stuffed with ricotta cheese, mushrooms and sun dried tomatoes and baked with Mozzarella cheese on top. Better than any other I have had! Highly recommended place! Definitely will be back to try other dishes

LeapFrog Unveils Tablet for Kids I’ve long since given into the temptation to hand over my iPad to my children. Not surprisingly this has resulted in it being dropped, sat upon, smeared with goo and generally abused. What is surprising is that it’s survived. So I was eager to try LeapFrog’s just announced rugged-ized kids' tablet, the LeapPad. The tablet, unveiled a week ago, will be available for preorder June 29, and costs $99.99. The LeapPad has a 5-inch touchscreen housed in a case that feels like it will take a beating. The 480-by-272 display is bright and high quality for a kid's toy, but noticeably lower resolution than adult smartphones and tablets. It's also a resistive screen, so you have to exert a little pressure when swiping or using the included stylus. There’s a built-in VGA camera (640-by-480 pixels) for taking photos and videos, an accelerometer for tilt control in games and a cartridge slot for playing LeapFrog's Leapster Explorer titles. When you turn on the LeapPad, you’re prompted to customize it with your name, picture, wallpaper and virtual pet. The Pet Pad, which lets you create and care for your pet, is one of four apps that come preloaded on the device. There’s also Story Studio for producing custom e-books, Art Studio for creating art projects with the expected assortment of stamp tools, colored pencils and special effects, and My Stuff gallery for storing photos, videos, e-books and other creative projects. One free download from the LeapFrog store is also included with the LeapPad. At launch there will be more than 100 compatible titles, including games and creativity apps, interactive e-books, videos from LeapFrog and Discovery Kids, and flash cards. Buying A Home – Down Payment Options One of the components a lender uses to help determine what loan amount to approve is your down payment. A down payment not only serves as a commitment on a borrower.s behalf to make good on a loan, but acts as a lender.s guarantee to minimize risk in case a borrower defaults on a loan. The more of your own cash that you can put down for a loan, the easier it is to qualify for a higher loan amount or a lower mortgage payment.
Alternative sources of funding Since most borrowers do not have large cash reserves on-hand for a down payment, there are other alternative sources for funding. Besides tapping into your own savings accounts, other resources may include friends, relatives, 401(k) plans, proceeds from stock sales, appraised assets, even a co-signer. Many cities, looking to expand their communities, even offer their own down payment subsidy programs for cashstrapped buyers. It.s not uncommon to be gifted $5,000 to $10,000 without expectation of re-payment.
Loan-to-value ratio A down payment is always expressed as a percent of the sales price and often referred to by lenders at the .loan-to-value ratio. or LTV. For instance, a $250,000 mortgage with an LTV of 80 percent would require 20 percent down or $50,000. Using a down payment calculator can help you see what influence a different down payment can have on your monthly mortgage.
Other down payment options Some banks even offer zero-down percentage loans which require no down payment. These types of loans are typically directed at first-time buyers with good credit who are qualified to make the monthly payment but cannot come up with a down payment. However, without a down payment the buyer has no equity in the house and the lender is at greater risk, so the interest rate could be higher. Another alternative to buying a home without committing to a down payment is to consider a lease option to buy. As a renter, you have an option anytime during the term of the lease, to buy the property at an agreed upon price from the owner. In some instances, the money you.ve put toward rent can be fully or partially applied toward the down payment. Sellers can also assist buyers with their down payment. By offering a carry-back mortgage, sellers can sell their house faster in a competitive market and buyers can purchase a home they otherwise might not be able to afford.
