El Segundo Police Raise $5K To Replace Teen’s Stolen College Fund
When burglars took $2,000 in tutoring money that had been earmarked for college, El Segundo police came to the rescue. Kristin Villanueva, who was her high school’s valedictorian and on her way to study materials engineering at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, was hit especially hard by a recent burglary at the 17-year-old’s home. “The suspects had stolen the tutoring money I had been saving for four years,” she said. But El Segundo police officers were not willing to let that stand in her way. They set up a GoFundMe page to replace the stolen cash, and raised $5,000 in nine days. The officers presented a check to a beaming Kristin Tuesday. “It was a bummer, but I’m really happy that they were able to turn it around,” she said.

Gipson Gives Thumbs Up to Appointment of Los Angeles County Judge to Judicial Council
CARSON, Calif --- Assemblymember Mike A. Gipson, Chairman of the Assembly Democratic Caucus and member of the Legislative Black Caucus, released the following statement in support of the appointment of Los Angeles County Assistant Presiding Judge Kevin C. Brazile as the newest member of the Judicial Council, effective September 15, 2017.
demonstrated time and time again the importance of promoting judicial fairness and excellence. As a judicial council member, I am confident Judge Brazile will demonstrate the integrity that is consistent with the mission of the council to ensure the independent, impartial, and accessible administration of justice. He has shown in his experience as Judge for Los Angeles County in caseloads dealing with employment discrimination, negligence, breach of contract, asbestos actions, and general tort actions. I would like to extend my sincerest congratulations to Judge Kevin C. Brazile on his appointment as a Judicial Council Member. I look forward to working with him to make sure access to justice, both in and out of the courtroom, is available for everyone, not just for a select few.”
“It is alarming the casualness with which President Trump shares classifieds information. Just because something is in the press doesn't make that information no longer classified. The President should not be tweeting classified information just because he is the President.” - Representative Ted Lieu President Donald Trump's retweet of a Fox News story claiming US satellites detected North Korea moving anti-ship cruise missiles to a patrol boat is raising eyebrows on Tuesday after US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley indicated that the information in the report is classified and was leaked. "I can't talk about anything that's classified and if that's in the newspaper that's a shame," Haley said Tuesday on "Fox and Friends" when asked about the story that cites two anonymous sources.
“I wholeheartedly support the selection of Judge Brazile to the Judicial Council. He has a long history as a civil public servant. From his appointment to the Los Angeles County bench in 2002 by Governor Gray Davis to his election as Vice President of the California Judges Association in 2009, Judge Brazile has
Pushed on whether the information was leaked, Haley said "it's one of those things I don't know what's going on. I will tell you it's incredibly dangerous when things get out into the press like that."

(BPT) - The banking and credit union worlds are as much the same as they are different. Both are eager to earn your business and to provide you with loans, mortgages, savings and checking accounts. With that said, there are some significant differences between the two financial institutions. In today’s world, with cutthroat competition for your money, it’s worth understanding the advantages of both, and perhaps making a switch to one or the other to put yourself in a better financial position. Credit union and banks: The differences The primary difference between a credit union and a bank is that a credit union is a not-for-profit cooperative, meaning it’s owned by its members or customers. Profits made by credit unions are returned back to members in the form of reduced fees, higher savings rates and lower loan rates. A bank, on the other hand, is for-profit, owned by shareholders and focused on its stock value. Joining a credit union is fairly simple, and membership is inexpensive — typically a one-time fee of between $5 and $25. Depending on
where you live, many credit unions serve a geographic area, such as a state or metropolitan area, and are open to anyone who lives in that area. Some credit unions are employersponsored, so that anyone (including family members) who works for that organization can join. There is no membership fee to “join” a bank. All you need to provide is some money to open a checking or savings account, a government-issued ID card, and some personal information (address, Social Security number, etc.). READ MORE

StubHub Center: Bolts, Fans Offer First Impressions of StubHub Center
Seeking a few good (young) men: LAUSD’s first all-boys school is at half-capacity
LA Unified is opening its first all-boys school next week, but so far only half the number of hoped-for students have enrolled. The Boys Academic Leadership Academy is starting with sixth- and seventhgrades, offering 100 spots for each grade. Eventually, the South LA school is approved to go through high school, opening a new grade each year, for a capacity of 700 young men.
different from what has traditionally been offered. It’s not a charter and it’s not a magnet, and people are fed up with those other systems, so they are skeptical.” Enrollment has increased steadily; it’s now triple what it was three weeks ago. Five to 10 students come in every day.
Approximately 8,000 invited Season Ticket Members came to StubHub Center on Saturday to catch the very first action of the Chargers in their new home.
“I’m pretty confident that we will have 140 students by the time we open on Day One, and more will come in at the last minute,” Moorer said. “When people see what we’re doing here, they get excited.”
They weren’t disappointed. “This is why I had to get tickets,” Giovanni Rodriguez said. “This is (freaking) awesome! We’re so close. We are right there in the game. It’s amazing and incredible to be this on top of the action. They are right here. This is such an in-the -game experience!”
But as of Thursday, the academy had signed up only 100 boys. The last orientation before school begins was Thursday evening at the school, to encourage last-minute sign-ups. The slow enrollment is a disappointment, but not unexpected.
Last year, two new girls’ schools in Los Angeles had the same trickle-in enrollment challenges. The district opened its first all-girls school, the Girls Academic Leadership Academy at Los Angeles High in the Mid-Wilshire area, and an all-girls public charter school, “Parents don’t quite have an underthe Girls Athletic Leadership School, standing about this new option in their simultaneously opened its doors in community,” said the school’s princiPanorama City. The fans weren’t the only ones impressed. Saturday marked the first time the players lined up between the white lines, getting a feel for what it would be like on gameday. While a handful of Chargers had visited StubHub in recent months, this was their first time seeing it football ready. READ MORE

Celebrating his 70th birthday last year, Clapton wrote a heartfelt note in the program that began “I swear this is it, no more…..I know I've been threatening retirement for the last fifty years, but I didn't think I'd ever really want to stop. I love what I do and always have done, but over the last few decades I've found what I was always really looking for, a loving family who love me just the way I am, which means I can relax and rest when I need to, and more and more I treasure the beauty of that....” The letter went on to say, “Hopefully, I
Having said that, Eric Clapton announced his only North American shows for 2017, a series of concert dates at two famed venues: New York’s Madison Square Garden and Los Angeles’ Forum. The shows will be a celebration of 50 years in music and just as many decades performing at these two legendary venues. Legendary guitar players Gary Clark, Jr. and Jimmie Vaughan will be special guests at the shows.
