Once Upon A Time‌ in a world not destined for happily ever after, the forces of good and evil that lie within each of us remained in constant battle. Inside the great walls of the Kingdom of Loneliness, a pitiful ruler, King Alone, secluded himself while his people tirelessly worked in the forest to survive the dark and lonely days. The unspoken laws had instilled fear upon the villagers for centuries. It was their belief that to search for anything more in their existence would only lead them deeper into a great abyss of longing & despair. They were taught as children to be thankful for the life that they had been given while working hard every day and giving thanks to the King for providing them the forest to live. The villagers had never laid eyes upon the great Kingdom or the Ruler himself so it became inevitable that each year tragedy would strike a few innocent children. Unfortunately curiosity would kill the innocent little kittens who dared to venture beyond the forbidden forest walls into the Ruler’s kingdom. Imagination was believed to be deadly so their lonely reality became their only truth. 1
For one brother & sister, life was remarkably difficult as their father had long since passed, or so that is what they were told from the time they were born. They kept each other company, secretly telling tall tales by candlelight under the canopy of trees with the look of sheer wonderment while they questioned if there really was a kingdom and a Great Ruler. Could their father have gone beyond the walls and found something better? Or maybe beyond the trees could there be richer life waiting for them? They questioned if they were destined to be trapped in the forest forever. But they did have an escape, each and every night with the sound of their mother's music while she played the old tattered and dusty piano. With each note that rang out, their souls were rescued from their lonely abandoned world. A world where the young girl dreamt of something more, her imagination running wild to rescue her. She knew she didn't belong in the world in which she was living. 2
