WORK EXPERIENCE: ACADEMIC David Johnston Thank-You Celebration Centrepieces: Aug. - Sept. 2010 University of Waterloo (Rick Haldenby, Associate Professor/O'Donovan director 519.888.4567 x84544) Three members of bohmLAB (Abe Galway, Sarah Neault, and Tyler Walker) and Ian Huff were hired to prepare installations for the dinner celebrating David Johnston's accomplishments as president of the University of Waterloo.

The theme of the evening was “barn-raising,” so I designed and fabricated a laser-cut plywood centerpiece composed of nine pieces which assembled into a small barn for each table.

Assisted in the preparation of a paper on Lewerentz's funerary architecture for the 2009 A+P2 architecture and phenomenology conference in Japan.

SMALL TRIUMPHS SING! Karaoke Kiosk As part of an Urban Republic Arts Society team, I helped design, construct and run SING!: a multi-lingual, outdoor karaoke kiosk set-up on Granville Street. SING! was a wildly successful part of Viva Vancouver's transformation of city streets into public spaces. bohmLAB research group and exhibitions Three friends and I created bohmLAB—the first student-led research group at Waterloo Architecture Cambridge—in order to further the independent research for each of our theses, which collectively revolved around the topic of responsive architecture. We collected equipment (like Arduinos, projectors, and an Emotiv EEG headset), shared space and ideas with each other, posted to a public blog, ran two open houses and two independent exhibitions, and wrote a constitution for future members of the group. bohmLAB is named in honour of Thomas Seebohm, one of our late computing professors. Wayfinding book The pedestrian survey I conducted for the Wayfinding project, led by associate professor Donald McKay, has been incorporated into a book documenting the entire Wayfinding project. I am a co-author of this book and my survey, “Mapping the Campus (Using Locative Media),” revealed previously unseen patterns in pedestrian movement on campus which were incorporated into the final proposal. (Project Director: Donald McKay, associate professor 416.458.9675). rareSiting: Springbank Commons Ideas Competition In the spirit of Musagetes and SIG@Waterloo, the design of this new home for both groups facilitates social interaction within the building as well as between these organizations and the local community. Graduate survey Fellow graduate student Liana Bresler and I prepared a graduate program “by the numbers” information document and conducted an anonymous graduate program, facilities, and services survey with the goal of initiating constructive student participation in the present and future directions of the School.
