For 20 years, we have never missed a publication.

More than a month after publication of the February-March 2020 issue of Smooth Jazz News, the spread of COVID-19 became a global pandemic. Therefore, we are amending this page of this digital edition to reflect updated information, which was not available to us during publication of the print magazine. Because of this, it is with great sadness to report that we are forced to temporarily pause publication of Smooth Jazz News beginning with the April 2020 issue. Please know that it was an extremely painful decision to make, and the most heart-wrenching communication I have had to deliver as publisher of Smooth Jazz News. But we feel it is the best and most appropriate one given this (temporary) health and economic crisis the entire world is enduring.

Therefore, we ask that new subscribers wait until we resume publishing before subscribing to Smooth Jazz News, and that current paid subscribers hold off on renewing until we resume our publication schedule.

TO OUR CURRENT PAID SUBSCRIBERS: Please know that your subscription will automatically be extended by an additional month for skipping the April issue. And, in the unfortunate event of any subsequent skipped issues caused by the continuation of this crisis, we will extend subscriptions for each issue missed.

Due to this unprecedented worldwide emergency and subsequent global shutdown which is beyond our control, please note that many of the events advertised, listings in our calendar section and mentioned in other editorial, were forced to cancel and/or reschedule.

Although this situation remains fluid, here is additional information that some of the promoters and artists have provided us as of March 24, 2020, which could change depending on national state of emergency and public health mandates: • Hornblower Cruises & Events are temporarily postponed until the state of California mandate is lifted

• California Center for the Arts, Escondido performances featuring

Chris Botti and Jane Monheit have been postponed.

Rescheduled dates to be determined.

• Mazatlan Jazz Festival is postponed until October 2020

• 17th Annual Earl Klugh’s Weekend of Jazz at The Broadmoor is rescheduled for Nov. 19-21, 2020 • Brian Culbertson’s XX Tour rescheduled for April-June 2021 • Spaghettini temporarily closed due to State of California mandate

We advise you to contact the promoter or provider of any and all events featured in this magazine to ascertain the details of each.

We plan to continue publishing as soon as the nationwide shutdown and other emergency measures have been lifted and business is back to normal. When concerts and festivals are operating safely, we will be back to provide artist features, pertinent event content, a calendar of events, other current editorial and advertisements that our readers look forward to receiving. We sincerely apologize to everyone for this temporary inconvenience.

Please check our Facebook page for updates or click here to join our email list. And, should you have any questions, please feel free to email us at smoothjazznews@aol.com.

Our hearts go out to those affected, medically and financially, by this illness. Stay safe and be well.

Sincerely, Melanie Maxwell, Publisher and Founder, Smooth Jazz News
