The working team is composed of Mr. İsmail Gültekin, the vice governor responsible for tourism promotion; Mr. Hayri Baraçlı, Secretary General of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality; Mr. İbrahim Çağlar, the Chairman of The Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (İTO); Mr. Temel Kotil, the Chief Executive Officer of Turkish Airlines; Mr. Timur Bayındır, President of TUROB; Mr. Başaran Ulusoy, President of TÜRSAB; Mrs. Tülin Ersöz, Counselor of Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. Within the spirit of activities carried out in a joint and cooperative manner, the aim is to enhance Istanbul’s role in congress tourism. At the first meeting convened under the chairmanship of Mayor Topbas, the discussion was focused on the steps to be taken to promote Istanbul internationally. Istanbul’s Mayor, Kadir Topbas, had the following to say about the meeting: “When I first became
mayor in 2004, I immediately met up with representatives from the tourism industry, and we prepared a road-map. Thanks to the plans executed jointly with the industry people, Istanbul grew rapidly as a tourist destination. Now we want to take thisa step further. We will carry out our activities in a jointly consultative way and gain new destinations for Istanbul, aiming to reach our targets rapidly.”
GTA Organized first Connectivity Workshop in Istanbul
Global travel distributor GTA has brought together 150 Turkish hoteliers and six of the country’s leading channel managers to explore technological solutions that can help bring even more tourists to Istanbul. Held at The Sofa Hotel in Istanbul, GTA’s first Channel Manager & Connectivity Workshop gave hotels the opportunity to understand the different options available to help them automatically manage their inventory and pricing. They learnt how they might integrate reservations with hotel property management systems offered by channel managers and ultimately to a wider world of potential guests thanks to GTA’s Supplier XML API,
6
which connects channel managers to travel sellers and consumers. Didem Okay, GTA’s Senior Market Manager for Turkey, says: “It is uncommon to get so many traditional competitors in the same room, sharing the same platform. But we all realised that such transparency is enormously valuable to hotels that rely on us to help their businesses succeed. “Everyone who attended said that the information they gained will help them maximise bookings over a more balanced season, while minimising risks such as overbookings.” GTA’s Channel Manager partners Booklogic, Hotel Runner, Vertical Booking, Phobs, BBLiverate and Octorate all prepared presentations and special packages for the hoteliers that attended.

New Terminal of Kuwait Int’l Airport built by Turkish Limak
Turkey’s Limak İnşaat announced it won a tender to build the new terminal in the Kuwait International Airport for $4.34 billion in a written statement on Aug. 18. The company, the construction unit of Limak Holding, said the bid of 1.31 billion dinars ($4.34 billion) was approved by the Kuwait Central Tenders Committee (CTC). The new terminal building will initially have a

Turkish Air Travelers Prefer in-flight Wi-Fi
12
Most of the people who travel by air in Turkey prefer in-flight Wi-Fi over food service, according to a survey conducted by Honeywell in Turkey. The survey indicated that the number of air travelers who are interested in technology and in search of smarter, faster and more eco-friendly flights is increasing. While four out of five respondents (88 percent) believe in-flight Wi-Fi is an important feature, one out of 10 respondents said they will not fly with an airline company that does not provide in-flight Wi-Fi. Orhan Geniş, the head of Honeywell Turkey and Middle Asia, said the air transportation industry in Turkey is growing fast. As passenger capacity increases, needs get diversified, Geniş stressed. “It surprised us that
September’2015 MeeTurkey
passengers have such an intense Wi-Fi need. They need Internet more than food while flying. They want to use the Internet in the air without any interruption just like they use it at their homes. It is necessary to appeal to the comfort of people inside the aircraft. Comfort and convenience have gained importance, and naturally the trend that started on the ground now extends to the sky,” he said. Stressing that Istanbul Atatürk International Airport entered the top five on the list of the most crowded airports in Europe, Geniş said Turkey’s passenger capacity in 2013 was 150 million people, 76 million of whom were domestic passengers while the rest were international passengers. “Atatürk Airport hosted 56 million passengers in 2014. Half of them were in transit. Airports in Istanbul provide services not only for Turkish nationals but for foreign passengers as well. That’s why we need the third airport, which will become the central airport of the region,” Geniş emphasized.

Turkish Ambassador to Seychelles Accredited, Trade Rises
The Ambassador of Turkey to Seychelles, Ms. Deniz Eke, presented her credentials to Seychelles President James Michel at State House in Seychelles. The newly-accredited Turkish ambassador to Seychelles, Deniz Eke, has expressed her delight that trade between the two countries is improving. The President and the Ambassador discussed the increase in trade between Seychelles and Turkey as well as people-to-people exchanges, the Blue Economy, tourism, and aviation in their meeting. After the accreditation ceremony, Ambassador Deniz Eke told the national media that her talks with the President centered on various areas of cooperation where both countries have mutual interests. She said that Turkey has excellent relations with Seychelles and that Turkey very much supports African integration, African solutions to Africa’s challenges, and that Seychelles is an important partner of cooperation in the African continent. “We agreed that there is huge potential that can be tapped in terms of commercial relations and investments and to make that possible the only thing that we need
to do is to encourage more businessmen to come to Seychelles and more Seychellois businessmen to go to Turkey and see with their own eyes the potential that both our countries possess. It will be our job in the future to organize frequent delegations to visit at all levels, to bring our people closer and to make them aware of the potential that exits in our relations,” said Ambassador Eke. Ambassador Eke also highlighted academic cooperation as a potential area for collaboration, hinting that Turkish universities might be working together with the University of Seychelles in the near future. According to figures provided to SNA by the Seychelles Ministry of Foreign Affairs, bilateral trade between Turkey and Seychelles amounted to around $8 million in 2014. Imports to Seychelles from Turkey, which include food products such as sunflower seed oil, olive oil, lentils and pasta as well as metal products such as bars, rods and wires, amounted to 100.7 million Seychelles rupees or around $7.4 million in 2014, up from SCR53.8 million ($4 million) in 2013. Last year was also a good year in terms of exportation of canned tuna to Turkey, amounting to about SCR 5.6 million ($420,000). From January to April 2015, so far SCR 38 million ($2.8 million) worth of goods have been imported to Seychelles from Turkey. Last year, 403 Turkish residents visited the Seychelles islands, but for the first half of 2015, visitor arrivals have already reached 347, compared to 220 for the same period last year, indicating a sizable increase. Ambassador Deniz Eke is based in Nairobi.

Adopting sea turtle nests in order to help even a single baby sea turtle to safely reach the sea is an extremely significant contribution to the future of their species. Five of 8 sea turtle species living in the world are found in the Mediterranean, whereas only 2 of these (Caretta caretta and Chelonia mydas) regularly nest in the Mediterranean. All 8 species of sea turtles living today are either endangered or critically endangered despite their presence on Earth for more than 110 million years; hence their nickname “the living fossils”. Humans are one of the factors responsible for accelerating the extinction of sea turtles, which are protected under international conventions like Bern, Barcelona and CITES. Anthropogenic factors such as fast structuring along shorelines, heavy fishery, tourism activities, light and noise pollution, industrial contamination of waters and beaches are severe threats against sea turtles, their nesting areas, nests, eggs and hatchlings. A large portion of sea turtle nesting beaches in the Mediterranean is located along the shoreline of Turkey. For more information about EKAD, visit http://www.ekad.org.tr

rea of research is in Antalya province, within the borders of Serik and Manavgat and consists of a beach of about 29,5km between River Aksu on the west and River Sarısu on the east. The region is very rich in flora and fauna as it hosts various habitats with different characteristics such as forest, river, stream, agricultural areas, aquatic habitats and sand dunes. While five-star tourism establishments, summerhouses and arbours occupy an important portion of the beach; there is no construction in one part. Most part of the region is under protection regulations such as “Belek Specially Protected Area” and “First Degree Natural Site”. Therefore, especially when the summerhouses present in the Special Protection Area and the

areas reserved as Tourism Development Area are considered, there are several activities threatening the survival of sea turtles in the region. All 7 species of sea turtles living today are either endangered or critically endangered despite their presence on Earth for more than 110 million years; hence their nickname “the living fossils”. Humans are one of the factors responsible for accelerating the extinction of sea turtles, which are protected under international conventions like Bern, Barcelona and CITES. Anthropogenic factors such as fast structuring along shorelines, heavy fishery, tourism activities, light and noise pollution, industrial contamination of waters and beaches are severe threats against
sea turtles, their nesting areas, nests, eggs and hatchlings. Five of 7 sea turtle species living in the world are found in the Mediterranean, whereas only 2 of these (Caretta caretta and Chelonia mydas) regularly nest in the Mediterranean. Caretta caretta matings may occur near the nesting beaches or in special gathering areas a few weeks prior to the beginning of the nesting season. Mating pairs are frequently seen at the surface, although there are reports of submerged copulations. Nesting season in the northern hemisphere is generally from May to August. Laying eggs usually takes place at night, and rarely during mornings. The female occasionally raises her head to view the beach while approaching the beach to nest. At this stage, the turtle is extremely sensitive to external stimuli and will immediately swim away in case of any disturbance. Once the female finishes digging a nest and starts laying her eggs, she is not as sensitive to stimuli. When egg depositing is completed, rear flippers help cover the eggs
19
MeeTurkey September’2015
Cover Story gently with the moist sand dug out and press the sand. Finally, the female starts crawling forward while front flippers throw sand backwards to form a camouflaged area to hide the egg chamber. Once this entire process is completed, the female hastily returns to the sea. Sea turtles generally nest every 2-3 years. They may nest for more than once in one nesting season. The interval between two nestings in the same season is about 2 weeks. Freshly laid sea turtle eggs are generally spherical, white, soft, coated with a mucous secretion and the size of a ping-pong ball (about 40 mm in diameter and 40 grams). The clutch size in a nest is approximately 80, and the incubation period lasts for 1.5-2 months. Hatchlings lie still in the nest for a while and leave the nest in 5 days on average by helping each other to scramble up in the sand. Hatchlings leaving their nests orient towards the sea by making use of the brightness of the horizon and the reflection of the moon on the water’s surface. Any kind of artificial light behind the beach during that period may disorient hatchlings leading to extensive mortality. A large portion of sea turtle nesting beaches in the Mediterranean is located along the shoreline of our country. We are very lucky for still having the opportunity to host these spectacular animals, which are extremely important for the continuity of marine and coastal ecosystem.
Field Research in Belek Region
20 13
September’2015 MeeTurkey
Field studies in the region are conducted during MaySeptember with a team of 30 people regarding the periods when adult females and hatchlings emerge. Data collection during this period have been carried out between 05°°-12°° in morning shifts and between 21°°-05°° in night shifts by monitoring the sections with teams of 2-3 people. All nests are recorded efficaciously in morning shifts. In order to determine the exact places of nests, sand on the nest surface is dug 10cm wide until the first eggs are visible and then the nest is covered with the sand that has been dug out to prevent any possible change in the temperature or moisture of the nest. Determined nests are marked by locating sticks beneath the sand showing the nest number and nesting date. Tracks determined during nesting period therefore are possible nests, are also marked in the same way and are controlled for predation and/or hatchling emergence. All nests determined during field studies as well as any predation, caging, hatchling emergences and uncovering for control are marked on the scale maps in the office in order to monitor the progress of all nests. Besides, daily collected data are written down on the computer present in the office. In this way, all studies in the region can be carried out systematically. Nests in front of tourism establishments are caged against any possible human damage. In order to ensure a complete protection on these nests, safety guards of the establishments are provided with necessary information and are charged with keeping the nests safe from harm until the hatchlings emerge. All previously made nests are checked during morning shifts. In case of coming across a predated nest, teams take down necessary data regarding the predation date, nest number, number of destroyed eggs in the egg chamber and whether there are any eggs left in the egg chamber. The nest is covered after this procedure. Number of destroyed eggs is determined by counting the empty eggshells around the nest after predation.
In areas where high predation density is in question, surface cages are used against predation. These cages are placed on the egg chamber about 10cm under the sand to prevent being seen from the surface. The cell size of these cages is designed to allow the hatchling pass but prevent predation. In order to prevent mortality because of getting stuck in these cells, all cages are kept under strict control during hatchling emergence period. In morning shifts carried out during hatchling emergence period; nests from which hatchlings have emerged, date of emergence, number of dead and/or alive hatchlings on the egg chamber, number of hatchlings that have been able or unable to reach the sea are determined by taking notice of the hatchling tracks on the sand. We try to assess the possible causes of hatchling mortality by following the tracks of predators and hatchlings that have failed to reach the sea. Hatchling dispersal diagrams are used to assess how much the hatchlings are affected by artificial lights. In order to assess the effects of artificial lights in specific areas, an experiment media have been prepared in 2000. This experiment media is set up on previously determined locations between 17°°-20°° at night and the experiments are conducted between 21°°04°° . Hatchlings are kept in a pool set up on the beach and filled with seawater until the experiment starts. Approximately 100 hatchlings are used for each experiment and are released
to the sea when the experiment is completed. At a certain period after the hatchling emergence is finished, the nests are uncovered for control to determine the number of dead and/or alive hatchlings in the egg chamber, total number of hatchling emergence (regarding the number of empty egg shells), number of damaged eggs and their embryonic stages. Total number of hatchling emergence is determined by taking notice of the number of empty egg shells counted during uncovering for control and is compared to the data taken down regarding the hatchling tracks during hatchling emergence period.
Importance of Belek Region in terms of Sea Turtles Number of nests determined during two years (1999, 2000), have revealed the fact that Belek region is the second largest known nesting area for sea turtles after the Zakynthos Island of Greece. With more recent datas from the field those nests numbers have reached even higher numbers (around 2000 nests) which takes Belek region to number one status in Medditerenean. This result puts forward the strong need of paying more attention to the conservation studies in the region in order to preserve the sea turtles as

Conservation and Problems of Sea Turtles in the Region All problems arising from tourism in the region have started as a result of wrong decisions and applications practiced before. A considerable part of the region was sentenced as a “Tourism Development Area” and a considerable number of tourism establishments have been constructed. Furthermore, another considerable amount of construction is present in the summerhouses area. Summerhouses between Acısu-Köprüçay, despite the fact that they are located at the far back of the beach, do have a serious negative impact on the sea turtles because of artificial lighting. Plus to that hotels are build to that area (which is Specially Protected Area) after a long juridical process. Another empty area where no construction was present for a long time, is extracted beyond the limits of special protection area and was reserved as a tourism development area and a single hotel is built there and running for the last 6 years. Some parts of the beach are occupied by arbours used by local people. There is still a considerable chance in areas where construction is planned but has not started. Therefore, as it is not possible to remove all negative factors threatening the sea turtles in areas where construction is completed or about to be completed, studies in these areas may only involve minimizing the negativities. Considerable amount of predation by foxes and stray dogs is present in areas where there is no construction so far. (Photos by Tahsin Ceylan)
one of Turkey’s important biological riches as well as to fulfill the responsibilities we have overtaken in terms of signing international conventions. In the area of 29,5 kilometers, 612 Caretta caretta nests and 2 Chelonia mydas nests have been determined during the nesting season in year 1999, while 682 Caretta caretta nests and 8 Chelonia mydas nests have been determined during the nesting season in year 2000. These results showed that the region is a “Primarily Vulnerable Region for Sea Turtles”.

he World Heritage Committee this afternoon approved the inscription of Ephesus in Turkey and three other sites on the World Heritage List. Besides Ephesus, sites of Japan’s Meiji Industrial Revolution: Iron and Steel, Shipbuilding and Coal Mining in Japan, Aqueduct of Padre Tembleque Hydraulic System in Mexico, and Fray Bentos Cultural-Industrial Landscape in Uruguay are approved. The Committee also approved the extension of Spain’s Routes of Santiago de Compostela with the addition of the “Camino Francés and Routes of Northern Spain”. Sites of Japan’s Meiji Industrial Revolution: Iron and Steel, Shipbuilding and Coal Mining (Japan)—The site

encompasses a series of eleven properties, mainly located in the southwest of Japan. It bears testimony to the rapid industrialization of the country from the middle of the 19th century to the early 20th century, through the development of the steel industry, shipbuilding and coal mining. The site illustrates the process by which feudal Japan sought technology transfer from Europe and America from the middle of the 19th century and how this technology was adapted to the country’s needs and social traditions. The site testifies to what is considered to be the first successful transfer of Western industrialization to a non-Western nation. Ephesus (Turkey)—Located within what was once
the estuary of the River Kaystros, Ephesus comprises successive Hellenistic and Roman settlements founded on new locations, which followed the coastline as it retreated westward. Excavations have revealed grand monuments of the Roman Imperial period including the Library of Celsus and the Great Theatre. Little remains of the famous Temple of Artemis, one of the “Seven Wonders of the World,” which drew pilgrims from all around the Mediterranean. Since the 5th century, the House of the Virgin Mary, a domed cruciform chapel seven kilometres from Ephesus, became a major place of Christian pilgrimage. The Ancient City of Ephesus is an outstanding example of a Roman port city, with sea channel and harbour basin. Aqueduct of Padre Tembleque Hydraulic System (Mexico)— This 16th century aqueduct is located between the states of Mexico and Hidalgo, on the Central Mexican Plateau. This heritage canal system encompasses a water catchment area, springs, canals, distribution tanks and arcaded aqueduct bridges. The site incorporates the highest singlelevel arcade ever built in an aqueduct. Initiated by the
Franciscan friar, Padre Tembleque, and built with support from the local indigenous communities, this hydraulic system is an example of the exchange of influences between the European tradition of Roman hydraulics and traditional Mesoamerican construction techniques, including the use of adobe. Fray Bentos Cultural-Industrial Landscape (Uruguay)—Located on land projecting into the Uruguay River west of the town of Fray Bentos, the industrial complex was built following the development of a factory founded in 1859 to process meat produced on the vast prairies nearby. The site illustrates the whole process of meat sourcing, processing, packing and dispatching. It includes buildings and equipment of the Liebig Extract of Meat Company, which exported meat extract and cornedbeef to the European market from 1865 and the Anglo Meat Packing Plant, which exported frozen meat from 1924. Through its physical location, industrial and residential buildings as well as social institutions, the site presents an illustration of the entire process of meat production on a global scale.

The 14th Istanbul Biennial T he 14th Istanbul Biennial SALTWATER: A Theory of Thought Forms, drafted by Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev, opens to the public from 5 September to 1 November 2015 in over 30 venues on the European and Asian sides of the Bosphorus, and presenting over 1,500 works by over 80 participants. Organised by İKSV and made possible thanks to the sponsorship of Koç Holding, admission to the 14th Istanbul Biennial is free of charge. Works by over 80 participants from Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, the Middle East, Latin America and North America are on display in over 30 venues on the European and Asian sides of the Bosphorus. It takes place in museums as well as temporary spaces of habitation on land and on sea such as boats, hotels, former banks, garages, gardens, schools, shops and private homes. Stating that salt water is one of the most ubiquitous materials in the world, Christov-Bakargiev said, “Sodium in our bodies makes our neurological system, and thus our vital systems, work; it literally keeps us alive. At the same time, salt water is the most corrosive material threat to the digital age: if you drop your smart phone in fresh water, you can dry it and it will probably work again. If it falls into salt water, chemical molecular changes in the materials of your phone will break

it. When you visit the 14th Istanbul Biennial, you will spend quite a bit of time on salt water. There is a slowing down of the experience of art due to the travel between venues, especially on ferries. That is very healthy; salt water helps to heal respiration problems and many other illnesses, as well as calming the nerves.” The event spans from Rumelifeneri on the Black Sea, where Jason and the Argonauts passed searching for the Golden Fleece, through the winding and narrow Bosphorus, a seismic fault line which opened as a water channel some 8500 years ago, and down to the Princes’ Islands in the Sea of Marmara towards the Mediterranean, where ancient Byzantine emperors exiled their enemies and where Leon Trotsky lived for four years from 1929 to 1933. It presents over 1500 artworks by artists as well as other visible and invisible manifestations such as materials from the history of oceanography, environmental studies, marine archaeology, Art Nouveau, neuroscience,
physics, mathematics and theosophy. Works range historically from an 1870 painting of waves by Santiago Ramón y Cajal, who received a Nobel prize in 1906 for discovering the neuron, to the groundbreaking abstract “Thought Forms” of Annie Besant and Charles Leadbeater (1901-1905), up to a new installation by Aslı Çavuşoğlu, which reflects on an ancient and lost Armenian technique for extracting red dye from an insect and a new multichannel installation by William Kentridge inspired by Trostky’s passage through Turkey. Novelist Orhan Pamuk is the Honorary Chairman of the International Council of Friends and Patrons of the 14th Istanbul Biennial.

astronomy tourism is gaining widespread popularity and tours concentrating on food are increasing worldwide. As Turkey wants to get in on this field, tourism professionals focus on the tours that offer TurkishAnatolian dishes throughout the country Recently, the number of tourist tours focusing on gastronomy has increased as tourists are visiting cities in Turkey not to sightsee, but to taste the local dishes produced by locals in the alleyways, according to the Istanbul Chamber of Guides (İRO) Chairman of the Board Sedat Bornovalı. Bornovalı said that tourists coming to Turkey are very interested in Istanbul. He said that the tour routes change according to the changing demands of domestic and international tourists, their travel motivation, the tourism market, the expectations of tourists and the tourist profile. He said that the places that tourists usually visit as part of classical tour programs might show changes.

Bornovalı pointed out that these changes are usually related to the season of arrival. “For instance, those who visit a city with cruise tours usually prefer to visit the nearby places and places where they can shop. As it is stated in tour programs, tourists mostly visit important places regarding history, geography and culture and cafes and restaurants that offer good service with reasonable prices.” Bornovalı also said that the promotion and the information given in the countries where tourists come from can immediately change the perception and the interest in Turkey. He said that a best-selling book or a box office film can cause a long-term effect. “Each tourist wants to get to know the cuisine of the country they visit and taste the local food. Therefore, I can easily say that places dominated by Turkish-Anatolian cuisine are mainly preferred,” Bornovalı said. He said that recently the number of tours focusing on tasting has increased. “Tourists wonder around the city to taste the local food instead of for touristic purposes. Thanks to these types of tours, tour guides can work an extra day or two and the duration of tourists’ stay prolongs,” Bornovalı said. These tours start with a breakfast featuring different types of cheese and continue with another small breakfast with different foods. The tourists later have grilled meatballs as fast food or have a snack in the afternoon. According to Bornovalı, a new generation of tourists has emerged. People
who consume authentic Turkish drinks such as boza, salep, demirhindi sherbet, şıra, ayran, şalgam and zahter and those who eat honey from its comb for the first time in their lives share their experience on social media, which increases the recognition of the country.

Bornovalı said that their chamber is Turkey’s first and most rooted organization for tour guides. He said that İRO initiates various new projects and training programs in order to meet the changing demands of the consumers, contribute to the economy by producing new tourism products and offer quality services to tourists with trained professional tour guides. He stressed that cultural tourism should be supported and new alternatives should be created in order to form sustainability for tourism. He also said that they provide 30-day intensive courses for tour guides to refresh their knowledge about Istanbul. Bornovalı said that they offered training, including 10 different routes, to over 500 tour guides for them to have specialties as a part of their project “Alternative Tour Routes for Tourism Sustainability.” During the training, guides receive theoretical and practical training on Istanbul during the Byzantine Era, Istanbul during the Ottoman Era, architecture in Istanbul, commercial buildings, waterways, Jewish heritage in Istanbul, Islam in Istanbul, Christianity in Istanbul, the waterside mansions of Istanbul and bird watching. He said that they have prepared a publicity kit featuring related materials to their training such as maps and photographs and distributed these kits to tourism agencies and institutions along with travel agencies, hotels, restaurants and guides. He said that they support the “Great Architect Mimar Sinan as the New Tourism Route” project, which is being undertaken by TURING and said that they train guides specifically for this project. (aa)

IT&CMA and CTW Asia-Pacific Seeks “Stickiest Social Sharing” Winner
IT&CMA and CTW Asia-Pacific 2015 has added a new title to its Sticky Awards honour-roll in search for the “Stickiest Social Sharing” delegate. Open to all registered event delegates, this initiative is aimed at encouraging attendees to share their show experience with peers through social media and via the mobile app in-guide sharing platforms. “We have delegates who simply enjoy keeping their networks posted about interesting things they are involved in or have discovered. From the sights and sounds of Bangkok, the latest phrase of inspiration they have heard from one of our reputed speakers, to the destinations, products and services that have piqued their interest at the exhibition hall or networking function. The idea is to reward them for sharing and to encourage more delegates to join in the exchange,” said Darren Ng, Managing Director of TTG Asia Media. Like the other Sticky Award titles, the
“Stickiest Social Sharing” winner will be determined by votes from other delegates, as well as by the organisers who will consider both the content and frequency of posts that had left the biggest impression. Shares made in the leadup to the event will also be considered. The winner will be announced during the “Sticky Awards” Networking Lunch on 1 October. To facilitate winner selection, all posts must be identifiable with the delegate’s registered name and company name along with the relevant hashtags #itcma2015 and/or #ctwapac2015 on Twitter, Facebook or the mobile app inguide photo gallery. Delegates are also required to log-into the mobile guide and check themselves in as an attendee to qualify for the award. Meanwhile, IT&CMA and CTW Asia-Pacific’s mobile app guide, powered by Guidebook, will be accessible only by registered delegates, as it contains exclusive event content. This includes the essential Show Directory that features the full list of exhibitors and their profiles (this will replace hard copies), delegate listings, alerts to keep delegates updated of latest developments, personalisable programme schedules, and interactive floorplans of the exhibition hall and conference areas amongst others. Delegates will also have access to the mobile guide’s connect function that allows them to see who else is attending the event, and exchange contact information virtually. “The Connect feature comes in handy given the number of delegates attending the event, and the inability to meet everyone face-to-face during the 3-days. Checking into the guide allows them to connect with other delegates via their smartphone or tablet.” says Alex Goldberg, Senior Marketing Manager of Guidebook. Organisers will unlock mobile guide functions and update content in the lead-up to the show. IT&CMA and CTW Asia-Pacific 2015 will be held from 29 September to 1 October 2015 at the Bangkok Convention Centre at CentralWorld.

ANKARA
Ankara the capital of Turkey is located in the centre of Anatolia province. With a known history of around 3000, Ankara has seen great heights in the past. Around 3000 years ago, the Hittites established a city by the name of Akuwash (old name for Ankara) at the intersection of two trade routes in Turkey. During its earlier phase, Ankara was ruled by Phrygians, Macedonians (under Alexander the Great), and Romans. Seljuk Turks captured the city in 1071 AD and renamed it as Enguriye. Most important moment in the history of Ankara came when Atatürk founded his provisional government here in 1920, and in 1923 when it became the
capital of Turkish Republic. The city has seen a number of changes since then, however it has been successful enough in maintaining a fine balance between the old and the new and thereby living up to its unique identity as the “Melting Pot of East and West”. Today, Ankara is a sprawling urban mass thoroughly organized and well - planned and much European in look than most of the cities in Turkey. Its wide-open roads, large hotels, restaurants and government offices distinguish the city. Besides, there are several tourist attractions and meetings in the city making it an ideal destination for the tourists and mice industry.
