Istanbul 2020 Olympic Delegation at 76th AIPS Congress in Sochi A delegation of Istanbul 2020 Olympic media experts today demonstrated the Bid Committee’s plans for welcoming the world’s media to Turkey with a presentation to leading international sports journalists at the 76th Association Internationale de la Press Sportive [AIPS] Congress in the host city of the next Winter Games, Sochi, Russia. On stage for Istanbul 2020 were Ali Kiremitçioğlu, CEO of the Istanbul 2020 Bid Committee; Esat Yılmaer, the National Olympic Committee of Turkey’s Media Director and first Vice President of AIPS; and Murat Ağca, a senior sports journalist and a member of the Istanbul 2020 Media Team. In front of over 450 AIPS Congress delegates, they described a media operations concept based around one of the most compact media footprints in Olympic history. The IBC/MPC and the 16,500-bed Media Village will be colocated in the Olympic Park, 15 minutes from the airport and with average travel times within the Olympic Park of just five minutes. A further 3,500 media hotel rooms will be distributed among the four venue zones to maximise convenience for the media. Ali Kiremitçioğlu, speaking in French, introduced some of the key themes behind Istanbul 2020’s Games concept: “The best Olympic stories are set against a memorable backdrop. Istanbul is a city that bridges together people, ideas, and, of course, continents. It has always been a powerful theatre: for politics; for geography; for philosophy; for culture. It has been a meeting point for millennia. This is where East meets West; where tradition meets innovation; where youth meets excellence; where capacity meets opportunity. The stories we share from the Istanbul 2020 Games will affect

millions of people in many ways.” The Istanbul 2020 presentation highlighted a number of other media-friendly proposals designed to ensure Turkey’s first ever Games are the most widely covered in history. Istanbul 2020 will offer a free wi-fi based Games-time information service accessible by handheld device, and a second satellite media centre at the International Convention and Exhibition Centre. This state-ofthe-art facility will offer panoramic views over the Bosphorus and will serve the purpose of increasing services for the media while showcasing Istanbul’s beauty. Esat Yılmaer underlined Istanbul 2020’s promise to the global media community: “I have been part of the working press at seven Olympic Games and four Olympic Winter Games and I have seen first-hand what the media need to do their job in an effective, accurate and timely manner. Istanbul provides a setting like no other. For the 2020 Games, this will be complemented by an unparalleled working environment. Murat Ağca added: “Our people, a new culture, are poised for this moment. Turkey’s Olympic Law, enacted in 1992, reflects our relentless desire to embrace the power of sport. And our Master Plan for our own country reflects our capacity to deliver this great dream. The Istanbul 2020 Games will be a bridge to a new culture, and, thanks to the media, a bridge to an historic impact.” A further four members of the Istanbul 2020 Media Team travelled to the next Olympic and Paralympic host city. The team is looking to gather insight and best practice from witnessing the Sochi 2014 Organising Committee at work, and to better understand the needs and priorities of the world’s Olympic media.

Turkey Continues to Shine in Price-Sensitive Golf Travel Market
Turkey’s rising status as a golf holiday hot spot has been underlined by a new survey of golf tour operators compiled by KPMG’s Golf Advisory Practice. The Golf Travel Insights 2013 report, published today on www.golfbusinesscommunity.com reveals that Turkey is now the fourth most popular golf travel destination after Spain, Portugal and Scotland. The survey, which questioned more than 110 golf tour operators from 38 countries on their results in 2012, also found that package price is now the most important factor for customers when choosing a golf holiday. More than half (54%) of golf tour operators said they had maintained the same price points for golf packages year-on-year, while 35% had increased prices. Turkey and other emerging markets, including Vietnam
and Thailand, saw an increase in package prices but remain competitive. The majority of golf holidays are based around a four to seven-night stay, the survey found. Package prices start from EUR 300 but are typically EUR 600-900, with 40% of bookings being for small groups of four to six people, and eight to 12 people. Overall, the golf travel market continued to grow in 2012, as it did in 2011, with 57% of tour operators recording an increase in business, and 80% predicting an increase again in 2013. Andrea Sartori, Head of KPMG’s Golf Advisory Practice, said: “It’s encouraging to see the golf travel market continue to grow and recover from the economic downturn. “What’s interesting is that consumers are now saying price is the most important factor when choosing a golf holiday, although the quality of courses is still extremely important. In part, this is why we are seeing emerging destinations such as Turkey being able to position themselves effectively for the market – the quality of the golf courses is high and the packages represent good value for money.” The survey also revealed the growing use of smart phones and tablets and the increasing influence of digital and social media platforms, including TripAdvisor, Facebook and Twitter. While tour operators are reporting greater effectiveness in online booking systems, 40% of golf holidays were still booked over the telephone, while 21% were booked face-to-face with a sales person.

Turkey Leads World in Increasing Hotel Prices The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region has led the world in hotel price increases, according to HotelsCombined’s latest Hotel Price Trends Report released. The year-over-year report compared rates from December, January and February 201½012 to December, January and February 2012/2013 and found that hotels in the Middle East and North Africa increased in price by eight per cent. Overall, hotel prices worldwide increased four per cent. While as a region MENA led hotel price increases globally, the top individual locations for price rises were: Alanya and Marmaris, Turkey; Sousse, Tunisia; Bintan, Indonesia; and Vilamoura, Portugal. Menorca, Spain; Minsk, Belarus; Kiev, Ukraine; Beirut, Lebanon; and Rimini, Italy experienced the most drastic price falls. Demand for Turkey’s ski resorts, which offer cheap package deals and high-quality snow fields, as well as reported increases in food and labour costs, saw Turkey in the top five price increase list twice. Accommodation prices in Alanya, Turkey increased 66 per cent last quarter, seeing it take the report’s number one spot. Marmaras, Turkey was placed at number three with price increases of 37 per cent. On the report, HotelsCombined.com PR and community manager Kristen McKenzie said: “As we saw in last year’s report, the MENA region continues to post the greatest price increases. Egypt and Tunisia continue to show a strong rebound in tourism from the Arab Spring. However, Lebanon continues to struggle, likely because of its proximity to war-torn Syria.” “It’s no surprise the MENA region is once again demonstrating strong growth. These destinations are booming for both leisure and business travellers, thanks to continued investment and added attractions like the world’s biggest ferris wheel planned for Dubai. We won’t see this area slowing down its hotel rate increases anytime soon.” “We were, however, taken aback by the enormous rate spikes posted across Turkey. While this is probably due to increases in labour and food prices, as well as to the popularly of all-inclusive ski resorts, it’s important to note that Turkey has experienced significant technological growth recently, most especially within the online and mobile sectors. It will be interesting to see how this progress continues to impact Turkey’s tourism industry moving forward.”

Istanbul voted European Best Destination 2013
Istanbul has been voted European Best Destination 2013 in the first European e-tourism event which enables European citizens to choose the city which will win the title of Best European Destination.
Istanbul entered the competition for the first time this year and subsequently has become the first city to win the accolade upon its first year entering the competition. The only city in the world to straddle two continents, Turkey’s fabled city of Istanbul at the historic crossroads between East and West is the perfect choice for a refreshing, exciting and cultural city break with a difference. Istanbul took 1st place in European Best Destinations 2013, followed by Lisbon in 2nd place and Vienna in 3rd. Now in its fourth year, European Best Destination is an initiative of non-profit making European Consumers Choice which aims to promote culture and tourism in Europe. For the fourth edition of this major event several thousands of people voted, with the good spirit of the competition prevailing once again – an event in which advertising did not play any role nor was any personal data collected. This year all records have been beaten: the number of votes, followers, videos viewed, press articles and shares have all contributed to making this competition the largest e-tourism event in Europe.

Our partnership with Google will not only deliver up-to-the-minute industry data, but will showcase how technology plays a role in the travel industry - whether it’s searching for ideas or booking vacations or sharing their experience through social platforms” said Mark Walsh, Portfolio Director, Reed Travel Exhibitions. Google’s Gulf Regional Manager, Mohamad Mourad and Marie de Ducla, Travel Industry Manager for Google in MENA will share the findings of a Google-commissioned research study conducted by IPSOS. The study will reveal the results of how travellers in MENA make decisions when it comes to travel and purchase behavior. Google commissioned a similar survey for the US travel market in 2012, with 7,500 respondents completing a 21-minute attitude and usage survey into travel habits and attitudes of leisure, business and affluent travellers. In addition to the study, The ‘Google Think Travel’ day will feature a series of seminars for industry professionals. Several Googlers will be flying in including Nigel Huddleston, Google’s Industry Head for Travel in the UK; Dr Bernd Fauser, Global Travel Accounts Director; Maciek Nowakowski, Google Travel Product Specialist, Edouard Mailfait, Mobile Travel Expert. These executives will talk about everything from using the web for travel decisions to how travel brands can drive engagement and increase their brand awareness online. The dedicated Travel Technology Theatre was introduced in 2012 in response to the huge demand for technology related content and the success of previous sessions within the main Seminar Theatre. Targeting all Arabian Travel Market attendees, the programme covers online travel trends,
new developments in social media and advances in travel technology. The show has grown to become the largest event of its kind in the region and one of the biggest in the world and celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, Walsh reflected on the changing face of the travel industry and the essential role technology now plays. “Google is the most widely used web-based search engine in the world and has literally changed the lives of hundreds of millions of travelers and travel industry professionals. However it is amazing to think that Google only registered its domain name in 1997, just 15 years ago. The Google seminar presentations will no doubt highlight the profound effect technology will have on the travel industry in the future,” he said. Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, Ruler of Dubai, Arabian Travel Market 2013 will be held from 6-9 May at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Once the ancient city of Smyrna, it is now a modern, developed, and busy commercial centre, set around a huge bay and surrounded by mountains and was. The broad boulevards, glass-fronted buildings and modern shopping centres are dotted with traditional red-tiled roofs, the 18th entury market and old mosques and churches, although the city has an atmosphere more of Mediterranean Europe than traditional Turkey. Known in Turkish as “Beautiful Izmir”, the city lies at the head of a long, narrow gulf traversed by ships and yachts. Behind the palm-lined promenades and avenues, which follow the shoreline, the city, in horizontal terraces, gently ascends the slopes of the surrounding mountains. Izmir is the third largest city in Turkey but its port is second after Istanbul. A cosmopolitan and lively city all year round, Izmir is especially vibrant during the international Arts

Pamukkale was formed when a spring with a high content of dissolved calcium bicarbonate cascaded over the edge of the cliff, which cooled and hardened leaving calcium deposits. This formed into natural pools, shelves and ridges, which tourists could plunge and splash in the warm water. Hotels were springing up from the 1970s to cater for the large influx of tourists, and shortly afterwards UNESCO declared it a World Heritage Site. But by the 1990s, this took its toll on the state of the calcium pools and restrictions were placed on these travertine terraces. Many hotels were knocked down, visitors are only allowed on major paths around the sites, and
must remove footwear to stand on the calcium deposits. This seems to have been a successful move, as the water supply is now used for preservation and some of the damaged calcium deposits have been strengthened. Feribot iskelesi, Forodhani Gardens, House of Wonders ya da Beyt El-Acayip, Mizingani Road ve Old Fort of Zanzibar, Stone Town’ın turistik yöreleri.

Yatırımcılar için cazip bir turizm ülkesi, ‘’First come first serve’’ yani ilk gelenlerin kazançlı çıkacağı bir ülke olacaktır Tanzanya.
