UNWTO forecasts international tourism to continue growing in 2012 although at a slower rate. Arrivals are expected to increase by 3% to 4%, reaching the historic one billion mark by the end of the year. Emerging economies will regain the lead with stronger growth in Asia and the Pacific and Africa (4% to 6%), followed by the Americas and Europe (2% to 4%). The Middle East (0% to +5%) is forecast to start to recover part of its losses from 2011. International tourist arrivals grew by over 4% in 2011 to 980 million, according to the latest UNWTO World Tourism Barometer. With growth expected to continue in 2012, at a somewhat slower rate, international tourist arrivals are on track to reach the milestone one billion mark later this year. Istanbul Chamber of Commerce Invites Malaysians to Invest in Turkey
The Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ICOC), the world’s fifth largest chamber of commerce, will be a perfect gateway for Malaysian businessmen and investors to venture into Turkey. ICOC chairman Dr Murat Yalcintas said it can also help them reach other promising markets with great potentials in the region. “ICOC is the largest NGO (non-governmental organisation) in Turkey as well as one of the largest chambers of the world. “Our 350,000 members make us a good potential partner for business seekers. So to speak, we represent Istanbul, the heart of Turkish economy,” Yalcintas said. He added that Istanbul, as a rapidly expanding metropolis with its cosmopolitan texture and vast potential for future
business and investment opportunities, is one of the strongest candidates to emerge as a new regional hub for economic activities, intra-regional trade and financial transactions. “If our Malaysian friends have any business offers and demands, our member database is at their service. “Furthermore, if there is a considerable interest in Turkish market by Malaysian companies, we can organise partnership days or bilateral meetings to bring large groups of businessmen from both sides together, so that they can build connections and develop new partnerships,” Yalcintas said. He sees great potential for improving trade between Turkey and Malaysia. “Malaysia had a total external trade volume of around US$365 billion in 2010, whereas Turkish external trade volume was US$300 billion. “Trade volume between Turkey and Malaysia was only US$1.4 billion the same year, only 0.45 per cent of Turkey’s total trade volume and less than 0.4 per cent of Malaysia’s total external trade. Thus there is a lot of room for further cooperation,” he explained. Yalcintas pointed out that there was a huge gap between the two countries’ revenues. Turkey’s exports to Malaysia in 2010 were only US$225 million, while its imports from Malaysia were higher than US$1.1 billion. In 2011, Turkey’s imports exceeded US$1.5 billion (RM4.5 billion), while its exports dropped down to US$183 million (RM549 million). “That means the trade deficit that we are running against Malaysia worsened further,” he remarked. To whet Malaysia’s appetite in Turkey, ICOC is organising Turkish Products Exhibition, starting from Saturday until March 3, at the Marriott Hotel in Kuala Lumpur.

How long have you been in hotel industry? I have been in hotel industry for 26 years. After starting my professional career 30 years ago, I had decided to move into the Hotel Business with Hilton International İstanbul in 1986 and been in hotel industry since then. After 4 years with Istanbul and Ankara Hilton respectively, I joined Swissotel The Bosphorus and worked in different levels of Management as Director of Human Resources, Executive Assistant Manager and Resident Manager until 2002. Then joined Dedeman Hotels & Resorts International in 2007.
Could you please inform our followers about Turkey’s biggest hotel chain; Dedeman Hotels International? In 1966, opening in our first hotel in Ankara and followed by İstanbul in 1982, Antalya and Cappadocia in 1989 when there were very few 5 star hotels. Dedeman is a pioneer hotel company in terms of expansion in secondary cities in Turkey when none of the hotel chains had courage to invest in those regions and we helped tourism and development of those cities like Palandöken in 1994, Rize in 1995 and Diyarbakır in 1998. We are also the first Turkish Hotel chain in Turkey operating a hotel out of Turkey. Since 2008 we have been among Top 300 Largest Hotel Companies Worldwide by Hotels Magazine. With over 45 years of experience in hotel management and real estate, Dedeman as Turkey’s premier and most widespread hotel chain undertook the mission to represent Turkey overseas. Combining the “Traditional Dedeman Hospitality” and world class service, Dedeman chain will continue to be a source of pride for Turkey and a leader in the hotel industry.

How successful are you in 2011? Did you reach your targets? Can you tell us briefly about your financial results in 2011? We have 4 main targets to measure our performance. These are; guest satisfaction, employee satisfaction, financial performance and food hygiene. I can truly say that we had a rising trend line for last couple of years in all areas. We had not only reached our financial targets but exceeded all our targets.
What is the biggest change you are seeing from today’s traveler? 5 years ago my answer to this question would be Technology but today it will be Techonolgy and Social Media which go hand-in-hand. n the arena of Aphrodisias, the city of the Goddess of Love and Beauty, gladiators used to get into fatal combats before the eyes of 30,000 spectators for the honour of their goddess. Artists of this city used to immortalie the human body and psy chology in marble, which is admired even today, 2000 years later. Aphrodisias, a city bearing a history of 7000 years, is located in Geyre village, Aydin. The sun warms the civilizations and shines upon Aphrodisias over Baba Mount. The mount blesses fertility with the melted snow rushing down from its 2308m. high peaks to the plain situated on the western side, as it has been doing since centuries. And the village of Geyre, 13 km to Aydin, Karasu, from the Eastern direction, has been hand in hand with olive, walnut, ponogranate trees and emerald green orchards for centruies. The place is a plateau 600 meters high from he sea level. Dandalaz brook run s along the southern borders of the plateau, then turns to west and finally reaches mhytical Menderes river 25 km. down. Menderes running delicately through the valley of civilizations, becomes breathless around Karine and carries Aphrodithe’s salut e to the Mediterranean.
Aphrodisias is the city of Goddess of love; Aphrodithe. She comes from the depths of the ancient times, and meets us for the first time in Neolithic era, as the caring mother goddess. The first settlements on this furtile land appear 7800 years ago, in late neolithic and calcolithic eras. They continue during bronze and the following ages.
The answer to how this MotherGoddess cult came here goes back to the home of Israel sons: Sidon. The goddess of love came to be known as Astartia in Sidon and as Istar in Babylon and Ninova. According to Byzantine historian Stephanus the first name of Aphrodisias was Lelegonpolis. Later it was called Megapolis and following the reign of Assyrian King
Ninos, Ninoi. After the destruction of their city by Meds and Babylons, Assyrians bring their Istar cult to this intact site. Depictions of Nino s and his wife Semiramis’ profiles scraped on a relief, which came into light during excavations, prove this view. We get the first source of information about Aphrodisias from Aphrodisian historian Apollonios who wrote a NewFocus May / June’2012

book on Karia region. In the year 2 BC Aphrodisias had established an alliance with its neighbouring city of Plarasa to mint money. In 82 BC, Roman general Sulla presents a golden crown and a holy double-bladed axe to the temple of Aphrodithe. This act is a proof of t he increased importance gained by the city due to Roman sovereignity. During the Roman emperorship period which starts with Augustus, Aphrodisias became a rich, well known and important city. In Byzantine period Christianity could not succeed to invade the city at a short time, consequently paganism associated with A phrodithe’s personality continued to exist. However at the end of the paganism and Christianity duality, Christians had ruled the city and changed its name into Stauropolis. This event caused all the matchless sculptures to be ruined and destroyed. In July, 1969 the arrival of a young Turkish archeologist had changed the fate of Aphrodisias and also his own. This young man, who had dedicated himself to Aphrodisias, was Kenan Erim. Prof.Dr. Kenan Erim had staned the scientific excavations in 1961 and had lived with it until he died in Nov 3,1990. Everything we see in Aphrodisias today is his traces. One of the first remnants in the city is the 3,2 km. long city wall which was constructed in 260 BC. You may see the Sebastian complex after you leave the museum behind. This gorgeous and matchless monument had been dedicated to the first Roman Emper or Julius-Claudius’s family, that is

to Augustus, Tiberius, Claudius and Nero. This monument has an enterance facing west and its buildings stretch out to the east. Not far from here there is a 3-story building whose sides can be easly viewed. The col umns carrying this structure had been covered with wall panels with orijinal reliefs. These masterpieces covering a rich collection created by Aphrodisian sculptors are now waiting the day they will be exhibited. When we follow the pathway, the thea tre greets us. The
neighboring arena circled by columns is mentioned as Tetrastoon. This open field had been used as a market place in the old times. Aphrodisias theatre is especially crucial among Anatolian theatres. Its construction date is back in the year 1 BC. Only the first floor of the stage building, which used to have 3 floors constructed with different architectural styles, is standing today. Their restoration is still continuing. The theatre had been constructed by Emperor Sear and Augustus’s freed slave Zoilos, and was dedicated to Aphrodithe and to the local people, as it is deduced from the inscription s carved on the columns of the first floor. The name “archives wall “ come from the inscriptions on the stones to the right of the stage. These are generally emperor letters covering the privileges and honors granted to the city and the agreements made by neighboring cities.

Iron tools and instruments were to achieve victory and greatness not only in battle fields but in the field of sculpture as well. Anatolia was in a period when matchless w orks of sculpture were created. The old traditions of Anatolian sculpture reached a phase of lively fineness and beauty of expression. Beauty aspirations and love were to be stow stone and marble with eternal power.
The orchestra section in the form of a half circle in the middle of the theatre had been deepened and turned into an arena (konistra) by emperor Marcus Aurelius. When we continue to the west, down on the right a gorgeous pool comes into view. The p ool surrounded by columns mentioned as ‘’Tiberius’s ponico is 1,2 meters deep. It was constructed in 2 AC in order to control a spring that found its way to the face of the earth due to a powerful earthquake. A great number of contemporary researchers and archeologists share the view that the place could have been a gymnasium. The large area in the northern part of the portico is the agora that is the heart of city’s economy.. It is a structure built mostly for musical events. Eventually it was also serving the purpose of holding public speech and literature competitions. Moreover, it was functioning as the parliament
building of the city. Odeon was constructed in 2 AC and the floor of the circular orchestra section was covered with mosaics; The stage building was decorated with magnificent sculptures. Archelogists found many unfinished statue pieces and sculpturing tools during the excavations done in the area between Odeon and Aphrodithe temple. For this reason the place is considered as the famous sculpture school of Aphrodithe in archaic ages. Aphrodisian sculpture school is an important atelier that was productive between the years 1 BC and 6 AC. Production of statues here had continued till late archaic ages, event hough the other schools in Anatolia had ceased to exist in the same per iod. Some masterpieces have the signatures of their creators who are especially experts in relief and sarcophagus production. Many sarcophagi were decorated with lively
The structure next to sculpture school with its columns magnificiently climbing towards the azure sky is where the city’s heart is beating; that is Aphrodithe Temple. The temple constructed in lonian style has 13 columns in the longer side and 8 columns in the shorter side. Aph rodithe’s cult, which is now kept in the museum, had been standing in the holy abode in the middle of the temple whose construction was realized between 41 BC and 130 AC. Inscriptions on some of the columns inform us that the temple was dedicated to Aphrodithe and the people. On the road streching from temples to stadium, NewFocus May / June’2012

We meet Aphrodisias’s magnificient stadium in the northern section of Philosophy school. It is guessed that the stadium used to seat 30.000 people with its 262 m. Iength and 59 m. width. In Roman period Anatolian cities had to get the permission from Rome in order to perform a play at the theatre. Aphrodisias was one of those privileged cities which got a consent. Festivals, competitions, track and field events, box and wrestling competitions were all being arranged here. While going back to Philosophy school from stadium we come across Tetrapylon. With its high-rise pedestals, this monument was a place where gratitude and demonstration crowds used to gather and start to move. Not far from Tetrapylon, you may encounter a tomb made of Aphrodisias’s white marble under the shadow of a growing cypress tree.. This modest grave belongs to Prof.Dr. Kenan Erim, a beloved personality who is passionately fond of the city. events covering gods, goddesses and emperors. Aphrodithe greets us just at the enterance, in the high-roofed section of the museum. On its right one can see the statue of Antonius Dometinus Diogenes who had been the bishop of the temple in 2nd cc.. The handsome man figure next to it, Demos, represents the people of the city. The statue of the goddess is vertically standing and dressed. She wears a necklace in the form of a ha lf moon. On her garment there are reliefs seperated by strips from each other. The high relief head belongs to Zeus, the 14 greatest god of Olympus, the father of gods and god of gods and to his wife Hera. Below them the busts of sun god Helios and moon godess Selene follow. Holding the flambeaus upside down by eros symbolises death. The reliefs on the Goddess are like a short summary of life. Existence, gods, time flowing like water, death and infinity. Let’s not forget to wish luck to Prof.Dr. Bent Smith from New York university who will lead the new excavations in April after Prof.Dr. Kenan Erim.
The Temple of Aphrodite was a focal point of the town, but the character of the building was altered when it became a Christian basilica. The Aphrodisian sculptors became renowned and benefited from a plentiful supply of marble close at hand. The school of sculpture was very productive; much of their work can be seen around the site and in the museum. Many full-length statues were discovered in the region of the agora, and trial and unfinished pieces pointing to a true school are in evidence. Sarcophagi were recovered in various locations, most frequently decorated with designs consisting of garland and columns. Pilasters have been found showing what are described as “peopled scrolls” with figures of people, birds and animals entwined in acanthus leaves. Monumental gateway A monumental gateway, or tetrapylon, leads from the main north-south street of the town into a large forecourt in front of the Temple or Sanctuary of Aphrodite. The gateway was built ca. A.D. 200.
Bouleuterion The Bouleuterion (Council House) is centered on the north side of the North Agora. As it stands today, it consists of a semicircular auditorium fronted by a shallow stage structure about 46 m wide. The Bouleuterion at Aphrodisias remained in this form until the early 5th century, when a municipal official had it adapted as a palaestra, recording his achievement in an inscription on the upper molding of the pulpitum (stage). Palaestra usually refers to a wrestling ground, but in the 5th century it could be used to describe a hall for lectures, performances, and various kinds of competitive displays, as suggested by a number of factional inscriptions carved on the seats. Excavations The first systematic excavations at the site were begun in 1961 under the aegis of New York University, and were directed by the late Kenan Erim until his death in 1990. These excavations concentrated on the city›s central monuments, with spectacular results. In addition to the Temple of Aphrodite, major areas of investigation included the Bouleuterion or Council House, theTheater, and the Sebasteion or Sanctuary of the Emperors. Other important public buildings are the Hadrianic Baths, and the Stadium; the latter seated 30,000 people, and is the best-preserved of all ancient stadia. The buildings of the site are remarkable not only for the preservation of their architecture, but also for the many inscriptions, statues, reliefs, and other objects associated with them. Since 1979, the most important finds have been on display in a specially designed museum on the site.

The Sculpture of Aphrodisias Aphrodisias is well-known for its fine sculpture. Good marble quarries are located only a mile away from the city, and by the Late Hellenistic period, a strong local tradition of marble sculpture had already taken root. In later generations, Aphrodisian sculptors are known to have worked abroad on prestigious commissions, for example, at Hadrian’s villa at Tivoli. At home they were also held in high repute. There were public sculpture competitons, and a large sculptor’s workshop Sculptor’s Workshop has been located in the very heart of the city, between the Council House and the Temple of Aphrodite. The sculpture from the site is characterized by virtuosity and variety. Excavation has uncovered statues of, for example, gods, heroes, emperors, orators, philosophers, and boxers, as well as a great range of ornamental and figured reliefs. The finds range from grave
reliefs of the second century B.C. to statues of the last Roman governors of the sixth century A.D. Many sculptures from the site already occupy key positions in the history of ancient art.
New Discoveries and Current Research Since 1990, the emphasis of research at Aphrodisias, carried out by theInstitute of Fine Arts in cooperation with the Faculty of Arts and Science atNew York University, has shifted

Aphrodite of Aphrodisias The cult image that is particular to Aphrodisias, the Aphrodite of Aphrodisias, doubtless was once housed in the Temple of Aphrodite, She was a distinctive local goddess who became, byinterpretatio graeca, identified with the Greek Aphrodite. Her canonical image, typical of Anatolian cult images, shows that she is related to the Lady of Ephesus, widely venerated in the Greco-Roman world as Artemis of Ephesus. The surviving images, from contexts where they must have been more civic than ritual, are without exception from the late phase of the cult, in Hellenistic and Roman times. They are rendered in the naturalistic style common to their culture, which gave the local goddess more universal appeal.[17] Like the Lady of Ephesus, the “Aphrodite” of Aphrodisia wears a thick, form-disguising tunic, encasing her as if in a columnar box, always with four registers of standardized imagery. Her feet are of necessity close together, her forearms stretched forward, to receive and to give. She is adorned with necklaces and wears a mural crown together with a diadem and a wreath of myrtle, draped with a long veil that frames her face and extends to the ground. Beneath her overtunic she wears a floor-length chiton. The bands of decoration on the tunic, rendered in bas-relief, evoke the Goddess’s cosmic powers: the Charites, the Three Graces that are the closest attendants of Aphrodite; heads of a married pair (the woman is veiled), identified by Lisa Brody as Gaia and Uranos, Earth and the Heavens, over which this goddess reigns, rather than as Zeusand Hera; Helios and Selene separated by a pillar; the marine Aphrodite, riding a sea-goat, and at the base a group of Erotes performing cult rituals.
away from large scale excavation to documentation, conservation, and publication. The current program has two main parts: study and conservation of sculpture, and new fieldwork. In preparation for publication, all the carved marbles from the site are being systematically catalogued and reexamined. This project has required the construction of new facilities, including a high-security storage depot and conservation workshop. In addition to the scholarly study of the sculpture, a long-term conservation program has been initiated to repair outdated restorations, and to prepare new installations for the Aphrodisias Museum. The goals of the new program of fieldwork are to record and conserve the excavated buildings of the site, and to investigate the ancient city plan and urban development. This program combines detailed architectural recording with strategic new excavation and extensive surveying, including a large-scaleGeophysical Survey of the unexcavated portions of the site. In recent years, this approach has yielded dramatic results, showing that Aphrodisias was a planned city, laid out on a rectangular grid, with public squares and civic buildings such as the Council House and Public Baths all designed as elements of a unified urban scheme.

Turkish Airlines Rises Together with its Employees took place on the airplane. The final product was long in the making. Over a period of four months, photos were taken of all employees, which were then passed on to a team of specialist designers who created a picture montage that could be applied to the aircraft. The photos were combined in a distinctly Turkish Seljuk motif that is reminiscent of the interior designs created for our fleet. Eventually all the photos were incorporated into the final scheme and displayed with the “Globally Yours” tag line, emphasizing both the global and personal aspects of the airline’s operation; overall excellence rendered by one employee at a time. “Globally Yours” motto also displayed on the right side of the entrance of the airplane demonstrating that “The world is our home, you are our quests”. Lufthansa’s New Business Class
The new Lufthansa Business Class seat boasts a horizontal sleeping surface measuring 1.98 metres in length. At the press of a button, it converts into a comfortable bed. The seat impresses with the exceptional comfort it offers as a flat bed or as an upright or reclining seat, with its intuitive adjustments, additional storage space and enhanced entertainment system. In a few weeks’ time, when the new Lufthansa Jumbo, the Boeing 747-8, enters scheduled service, passengers will have their first opportunity to enjoy the features of the new Business Class cabin. “We integrated our customers very closely into the
development of our new Business Class so we would be able to offer a product that was totally in line with their wishes and requirements,” says Jens Bischof, member of the Lufthansa German Airlines Board. Back in 2007 Lufthansa conducted a survey of more than 500 frequent flyers in order to find out their preferences and their requirements of a Business Class seat. With that as the starting point, the airline moved on to the next phase and developed various concepts with the aid of well-known ergonomics experts, designers and seat manufacturers. In 2010 an eight-week trial was conducted on the Frankfurt-New York-Frankfurt route. In all, 1,349 passengers and a specially recruited test crew evaluated the prototype on flights LH 400 and LH 401 in terms of comfort, ease of use and technical stability. The new Business Class seat is a major component of Lufthansa’s largest investment to date in its inflight product. Over the next few years, some three billion euros will be channelled into product improvements for passengers. The new seat rounds off the travel experience for Business Class passengers perfectly - from dedicated check-in counters and additional free baggage allowances to fast-track security lanes, access to Lufthansa lounges worldwide and preferential boarding through to exclusive inflight menus and the excellent service provided by the cabin crew. “All of that shows that we are offering our Business Class customers an exceptional experience at every step of the travel chain,” says Jens Bischof. Retrofitting Lufthansa’s entire long-haul fleet of more than 100 aircraft is expected to take four years.
Global Passenger Traffic Grew in 2011 ACI preliminary traffic results, based on reports from over 900 airports worldwide, indicate that global passenger traffic grew at a rate of 4.9 percent while cargo was almost flat at -0.1%, as compared to 2010. Aircraft movements showed moderate growth at 2 percent.
ACI World Director General Angela Gittens commented, “2011 could best be described as a year of global uncertainty. Cargo traffic slowed for most of the year as business confidence deteriorated in light of the looming Eurozone debt crisis. International passenger traffic remained relatively unaffected by economies in Europe and North America teetering towards recession. Despite economic instability and political unrest in many regions of the world, overall, airports continued to experience sustained global passenger growth as compared to 2010.” Monthly passenger growth worldwide in 2011 was relatively stable with rates ranging from 3 to 6 percent with the exception of April. The month of April experienced a growth rate of 10.8 percent. The sudden spike in the growth trend was due to the sharp decline in passenger traffic for major airports affected by the volcanic ash cloud in April 2010, which forced the closure of European airspace. Air Astana First Removed Fokker 50 from it’s Fleet Embraer 190 takes over on short haul domestic and international sectors
After almost eight years of reliable service with Air Astana, the first of six Fokker 50s in the fleet was removed earlier this month. Since entering into operation on 27th April 2004, the aircraft had completed almost 34,000 flights during its lifetime with airline, serving short haul destinations. Three further Fokker 50s will be removed from service between June and August this year, with the last two aircraft remaining in service until spring 2013. The new generation Embraer 190 is gradually taking over on domestic and international routes previously operated by the Fokker 50 fleet. By comparison to Fokker 50 configuration of 50 economy class seats, the Embraer 190 is configured with 97 seats in a two class layout (nine in business and 88 in economy). The twin engine jet is optimised for medium range flights, with a maximum range of 4,500 km at a maximum cruise speed of 890 kph. This means that the E190 can
operate on longer range routes compared to Fokker 50 and at almost twice the speed. “The Fokker 50 has proved to be an outstanding workhorse in developing new routes and has served Air Astana well over the past eight years. The aircraft has consistently demonstrated high reliability and performance on the short sectors, but the time has now come to replace it with the new Embraer 190, which offers greater speed, range, advanced design, passenger comfort and operating efficiency, with low maintenance costs and fuel burn providing greater opportunities for regional route network development,” said Peter Foster, President of Air Astana. The passenger pleasing Embraer 190 first entered service last year, with the fleet destined to grow to six aircraft by the end of 2012. Air Astana currently operates a fleet of 25 aircraft comprising two Boeing 767-300, five Boeing 757-200, ten Airbus A321/ A320/A319, three Embraer E-190 and five Fokker 50. The airline serves 22 domestic and 27 international destinations, which includes daily services between Frankfurt and Astana, with onward connections to Almaty. Air Astana is member of International Aviation and Transport Association IATA and is Kazakhstan’s only airline to hold European EASA / Part 145 certification. In September 2011, Air Astana passed its third IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) without any findings. Air Astana is a joint venture between the National Welfare Fund Samruk-Kazyna JSC and the British company, BAE Systems, with shares of 51% and 49% respectively.

Artık iletişim kanalları size her konuda her bilgiyi önünüze getiryor. Global Travel Trends for 2011/12 IPK International announced today the global travel trends for 2011 / 2012 at ITB – Berlin. Despite a number of “Black Swan” events in many parts of the world such as the Arab Spring, the tsunami in Japan, flooding in Thailand and ongoing bank or national debt crises, the recovery in consumer travel demand that began in 2010 also continued in 2011. The preliminary results of the World Travel Monitor® from IPK International show a 5% rise in global outbound travel (with overnights) in 2011 to 750 million (following again of 7% in 2010). This represents a new record high in global outbound travel. The number of overnight stays rose 4% to 6.2 billion nights (2010 likewise saw 4% growth); the total volume of overnight accommodation thereby finally besting that of 2008 for the first time. At 828 billion Euro, travel spending on international foreign travel in 2011 (corresponding to
an 8% increase over the previous year) also edged past its former record high of 2008. “Tourism defied the continuing crises and difficult situations prevailing in many countries in 2011 to end with record levels in all aspects; i.e. not only in travel volume but also in overnights and spending,” reports Rolf Freitag, founder and president of IPK International. “The 5% growth over the previous year translates into a new record high in global outbound travel.” As to the outlook for 2012, Freitag says, “We’re also cautiously optimistic as to 2012, although the economic outlook in many markets would in fact seem to indicate recession. We thus anticipate even more distinct shifts in the tourism source markets, especially as those in the southern “Euro crises countries” will not be in a position to travel in the manner to which they’re accustomed.”
Europeans Embracing Cultural Travel While Europeans took more trips compared to 2010, the World Travel Monitor® data for 2011 shows that the total volume did not top the record high reached in 2008. The number of outbound trips rose 3.5% in 2011 to 414 million, following a 2% growth rate for 2010. The number of overnight accommodations held steady at 3.5 billion. Meanwhile, following decreases in 2009 and 2010,
expenditures for outbound trips rose 4% for the first time again (to 348 billion Euro). In terms of the types of holidays taken last year, the Europeans showed a preference for beach holidays, this segment increasing 5%. At 12%, the number of tours recorded potent growth while CityBreaks also saw a 9% increase. Countryside holidays, however, fell by 4%.
Coral Travel Celebrated 20th Anniversary in Moscow Coral Travel, one of the largest Turkish tour operator companies in Russia and a brand within the OTI Holding, celebrated its 20th year with a luxurious party on Tuesday night at Moscow’s elite club; Arena. Representatives of Coral Travel’s industry partners from Turkey and Russia to Egypt and Thailand attended the night which featured spectacular performances and concerts by Russia’s famous Todes ballet, pop star Valeria and Diskoteka Avaria. The three associates of OTI; Ayhan Bektaş, Coşkun Yurt, and Ahmet Bektaş made a small speech and sent their gratitude to their partners in the industry. The night continued till late night with music and dances.
Large Source Markets Stagnating while Russia Booming As IPK’s numbers show, Europe’s most important source markets experienced various ups and downs in 2011. Great Britain was the only European source market to experience absolutely no growth last year (0%), while the markets of Germany, the Netherlands, France, Italy and Spain increased
their total outbound numbers by 1-2%. Yet the largest growth in Europe last year, a 13% increase in outbound trips, was achieved by Russia. The outbound trips of the Swiss also recorded an impressive increase (+9%). NewFocus May / June’2012

Avrupa Birliği’nden Türkiye’ye Destek Geçtiğimiz yıl, Avrupalı tatilcilerin yaklaşık olarak yarısının (%51), tatillerini kendi ülkelerinde geçirmeyi planladıkları tespit edildi. Bu durumun 2012 yılı boyunca da devam edeceği öngörülürken, Avrupa Komisyonu, Avrupalı Seçkin Destinasyonlar (EDEN) girişimi sayesinde, Avrupalıları yanı başlarındaki muazzam saklı cennetleri keşfetmeye davet ediyor. EDEN’in hedefi, şimdiye dek kısmen keşfedilmiş ve benzersiz değerleri içeren Avrupa hazinelerini vitrine çıkarmak.
