F TURKEY NEWS G20 Meeting in Turkey
Turkey’s Mediterranean city of Antalya hosts a meeting of the G20 Tourism Ministers and main focus is on promoting more and better jobs. In line with the overall priorities of Turkish G20 Presidency – Inclusiveness, Investment for growth and Implementation – the meeting focused on how tourism can create more and better jobs as a means to reduce inequalities at national and international level. Recalling that tourism is one of the most dynamic and resilient economic sectors, Ministers of Tourism committed to maximize the potential the sector has to generate jobs, particularly for women and youth. Travel & Tourism is a major global employer. The sector is forecasted to support over 280 million jobs worldwide during 2015, or one in eleven jobs on the planet. Over the next ten years, the sector is estimated to generate 25 million new jobs directly and support indirectly the creation of 80 million new jobs around the world. And most importantly, Travel and Tourism supports jobs across all levels of society. It employs a higher percentage of women and young people than the whole of the economy and provides employment in rural and remote areas across the globe where job opportunities would otherwise be lacking. “Tourism has a major role to play in economic growth and cultural understanding” said the Turkish Minister of Culture and Tourism, Yalçın Topçu, recalling the objectives of the Turkish Presidency of the G20 and the important role that tourism plays in the socio-economic development of Turkey. “Today, though our economies have improved considerably, growth is still subdued and unemployment remains one of our most pressing challenges, particularly when it comes to the youth. Tourism can promote more and better jobs,
create opportunities for women and youth, stimulate entrepreneurship and the inclusion of SMEs into the tourism value chains” said UNWTO Secretary-General, Taleb Rifai in his opening remarks to the Meeting. The Deputy Director General of the International Labour Organization (ILO), Greg Vines, stressed that tourism “has the potential to further contribute to economic growth and job creation especially in less advanced regions” a factor that “gives tourism a key role in meeting the global challenges set by the 2030 agenda for sustainable development”. David Scowsill, President & CEO of the World Travel & Tourism Council, speaking on behalf of the Global Travel Association Coalition (GTAC), said, “Our sector creates jobs at different skills levels and in areas where other employment opportunities are scarce. This is why ‘Investment in People’ is one of the four key pillars of GTAC’s Agenda for Growth and Development. Travel and Tourism has a tremendous positive impact on people’s livelihoods, which enhances the community health, wealth and pride. With the extraordinary growth of our sector forecast for the next decade, we can contribute to promote more inclusive growth.” G20 Tourism Ministers recalled that tourism accounts for almost 10% of the world’s GDP, 6% of global trade, one in eleven jobs in the world. Data from ILO shows that ‘accommodation and restaurants’, together with other ‘private sector services’ are expected to create jobs at the fastest rate of any sector in the economy for the next five years. Ministers agreed on several actions, including: – To promote jobs for women and youth, stressing policies that address women’s empowerment; – To advance the decent work agenda including the issues of wage setting, social dialogue and social protection; – To create stronger links between the private sector, the public sector and education and training institutions to close the gap between the needs of the market and education programmes; – To enable cooperation between developing countries and G20 countries to promote inclusive economic opportunities and job creation, with a particular focus on women’s education; –To promote the integration of SMEs into the global economy; –To promote the value of employment in tourism to reflect more accurately the opportunities and benefits of tourism jobs and to attract and retain talent in the sector; and –To accelerate their efforts in the measurement of tourism employment in the framework of the UN adopted Tourism Satellite Accounts and the International Recommendations on Tourism Statistics

A member of the European Historic Thermal Towns Association, the province of Bursa will host the general assembly of the association this year. Bursa, the only province in Turkey that is a member of the European Historic Thermal Towns Association (EHTTA), will host the general assembly of the association between October 19 and 21. The three-day meeting will welcome the representatives of 36 cities from 13 countries. The main theme of the assembly, which happens every year in a member city with a historical thermal identity, will be: “Discovering the European Route of Thermal Heritage and Bursa: The City on the Silk Road.” Speaking to the press, Bursa Governor Münir Karaloğlu said Bursa is a unique city with its history, culture and natural beauty. He also highlighted that the city dazzles people with its thermal water as well as thousands of years of public baths and hot springs. Commenting on the importance of hosting EHTTA’s general assembly in Bursa, Karaloğlu said the meeting will reinforce Bursa’s identity as a thermal city. Stressing that Bursa is the first and only city from Turkey to be chosen as a member of EHTTA, Karaloğlu said Bursa was welcomed into the association in March 2013 and became a member and policymaker of the association’s board in 2015. “Bursa is home to numerous hot springs and public baths inherited from the Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman periods. With its modern thermal facilities, along with its 6,000 bed capacity, Bursa earns the title of being a thermal city, said Karaloğlu.
He said that Turkey has been making a move in health tourism in the last couple of years and Bursa has made a breakthrough for being a health center of Europe. Karaloğlu said: “Our main goal is to introduce Bursa’s thermal heritage to all of humanity. We aim to open the hot springs of Bursa, which offered remedies to emperors, sultans and queens throughout history, for the use of all people in the world. We will continue to work harder and harder to protect Bursa’s thermal heritage and share it with all people.” Ahmet Hikmet Şahin, the deputy governor of Bursa, said the EHTTA General Assembly is an international organization and Bursa represents Turkey at the event, adding that they have been preparing for it for a year to make it perfect. He said that all the preparations are complete and the program of the general assembly will include panel sessions, exhibitions and various other events. The gala will take place at Bursa Merinos Atatürk Congress and Cultural Center on Oct. 19 and the meeting will be overseen by Health Minister Mehmet Müezzinoğlu, Karaloğlu, Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Recep Altepe and representatives of health tourism and tourism professionals.

Local Tourists Step in for Absent Russians Local tourists have provided some comfort for the Turkish tourism industry since the sector was hit by a 21.5 percent drop in the number of Russian tourists compared to 2014. The dramatic drop in the number of Russian tourists visiting Turkey is believed to be directly linked to sanctions imposed on the country after the occupation of Crimea and the intervention in Ukraine. The drop, which corresponds to a decrease of 600,000, affected the sector, but an increase of 150,000 local tourists alleviated the loss to some extent. Mediterranean Hoteliers and Managers Union (AKTOB) SecretaryGeneral Kaan Kavaoğlu said the number of local tourists had increased by 21 percent this year. Touristic Hoteliers, Managers and Investors Union (TUROB) President Timur Bayındır said spending by local tourists was far from resolving problems in the sector. “Across the world, local tourists provide, on average, 71.3 percent of all tourism and travel spending. In Turkey, it is just the opposite. We reached the 15 percent level just recently. A decade ago, this figure was 5 percent. The increase is due to the development of a culture of travel and early reservations,” said Bayındır, adding that he believed spending by local tourists would further increase next year. According to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat), 69.9 percent of the 10.8 million people who went on holiday in the first quarter of 2015 visited relatives, while 11.4 percent traveled for medical reasons and 8.8 percent traveled for pleasure. In the second quarter, 15 million Turks traveled, experts said.

The latest hotel of this kind is the Adin Beach Hotel, which opened in Antalya’s popular resort of Alanya in May 2015. Selim Soylu, the general manager of Alaiye Hotels, which includes the 406-room Adin Beach Hotel, said halal tourism is a rising trend across the world, adding that the welfare and economic developments that Turkey has achieved over the past 10 years have turned taking a vacation from a luxury to a necessity. Soylu also said that the tourism sector has secured new investment channels to satisfy rising demand and that the hotel attracts a great number of foreign and local Muslim vacationers. According to Soylu, the hotel hosts a great number of foreign national Muslims from Russia, Kazakhstan and the U.K. Underlining that Antalya is making rapid progress on its way to becoming the capital of halal tourism, Soylu said there are five facilities offering halal tourism services in Antalya and a new one will open soon. This progress is quite normal considering the number of Muslims in the world, Soylu said, adding that everyone should be able to have a holiday in line with their religious sensitivities. He said the Adin Hotel offers separate facilities for men and women to eliminate problems faced by female Muslim vacationers, adding that the United Arab Emirates invited hotel owners to establish this kind of hotel in Abu Dhabi, as halal tourism continues to develop around the world.

World Travel Market London, Senior Director, Simon Press, said: “The UNWTO and WTM Ministers’ Summit is a fixture in the calendar for ministers and private sector to debate the key issues facing the industry. lanya was located on the land of a little peninsula, on the north of whose there lied Toros Mt. and on the south there was Mediterranean Sea. Due to its location between Pamphylia and Cilicia the city was called both Pamphylia and Cilicia in the ancient age. Some skeletal and fossil remains found in two villages, Bademaðacý and Oba, located on the northeast of county seat, prove the fact that Alanya’s history can be traced back to the Upper Paleolithic Era(BC 20.000 – 17.000), called “the dark ages” as well. There is no sufficient information about the area’s ancient times and Byzantium era. According to famous historian

Heredot’s scripts, people migrated here after the Trojan War on about the year 1820 BC and the city hosted various tribes. In the 16th century’s first half (BC), Hittites reached the land of Alanya and killed approximately 600 people. Then they ruled over the cities, Pamphylia and Cilicia. Between 224 and 118 BC, even though the whole Cilicia was invaded by Great Antiocus, the city maintained its independency as conquering of the city was too hard. Later on the 7. century AD, the city was even more important than ever that castles had been built as a protection against Arabian raids. and 7. centuries AD. The oldest known name of the city is Korakesium. Later on the Byzantium era, its name formed into Kalanoros. I. Alaaddin Keykubad(1200-1237), one of the Anatolian Seljuk sultans, took over the control of Castle of Alanya by defeating Kyr Vart, a Christian tyran who lived in the castle, in 1221. The sultan married the daughter of Kyr Vart and then built a palace in the city, which he named after himself as Alaiye. Alanya, as well as Konya (the capital of the sultanate), was regarded as a capital and was used as a centre to pass the winter and so, there were many new constructions. The city was living its the most prosperous era under Alaaddin’s authority. Today, there are castles, dockyards and many other buildings that stand still as a heritage from that era. After the fall of Anatolian Seljuk Sultanate in 1300, the city was ruled by a feudal community, Karamanoðullarý. Their capital was Konya as well. Karamanoðullarý sold Alanya to Egyptian Mameluk Sultanate in 1427 for a price of 5 thousand gold coins. After all, with the rise of Ottomans, who provided political association, Alanya was conquered in 1471 by Gedik Ahmet Pasha who was a general serving to Fatih Sultan Mehmet. With the era of Ottoman Empire, Alanya was first regarded as a part of Cyprus in 1571 but later had been sanjak of the province of Konya in 1864. When it later had been a sanjak of Antalya in 1868, Alanya, finally had been a county of Antalya in 1871. Atatürk named the city as Alanya when he visited it in 1935. Today Alanya is a town with a population of 100.000 and governing city is Antalya. Apart from the central municipality, there are 15 local municipalities. Prices can be varied because
it is a free market however, it is obligatory to put price labels on each item. While police is responsible for the security in the town centre, gendarme is the official security for suburbs and outskirt of Alanya. Tasks and authority of the security forces are regulated in accordance with the European Community Standards. Alanya has a Sea Frontier and a harbour for foreign-flagged ships. Currency exchange and international transfers are available in any bank branch. Credit cards can be used with ATMs. Foreign currency, especially Euro is a mean of cash payment for shopping. centre. Besides the national health insurances, all European insurances are valid in these health centres. Insurance agencies in Alanya run such services. Alanya Municipality was founded in 1872. Ahmet Asım Bey, the first mayor, began his duty in 1901. Since then Alanya Municipality has always developed day by day and worked for the welfare of public. With the arrival of German tourists in the 60’s, Alanya hosted its first tourists. In the following years, firstly there showed up B&Bs, then did motels and hotels. Doing agriculture and tourism successfully at the same time, Alanya, with the public’s sincere and friendly relationships, is held up as an example by all the touristic vicinities of Turkey. Alanya Municipality, cooperating with civil society organizations such as Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Alanya(ALTSO), Tourism Introduction Foundation of Alanya(ALTAV), Touristic Managerships Institution of Alanya(ALTİD), Environmental Peace and Cooperating Cultural Association of Alanya(ALKOD) and with chambers of merchants, is brightening the future of the town. Alanya Municipality has also drawn attention with the sister
cities it has on Europe. By reciprocal acts of parliments, Germany’s Gladbeck, Austria’s Schwechat, Poland’s Wodzislaw, Lithuania’s Trakai, Latvia’s Talsi, Sweden’s Boras, China’s Fushun, Hungary’s Keszthely, Greece’s Nea Ionia, Finland’s Rovaniemi, Czech Republic’s Spindleruv Mlyn and Russia’s Moscow cities are regarded as sister cities.

fascinating and monumental form during the Seljuk Empire. The altitude of the part called the inner castle and located at the highest place of western corner of the peninsula is about 250 meters. It was surrounded by walls from four sides as it was the centre of administrative and military organisation. Two Seljuk period cisterns made of bricks located in the middle part of the inner castle are still in good condition at present. Main buildings in the inner castle were constructed so as to lean on the castle walls, except for the western part. Sultan Keykubat has been built his palace here...The settlement in the castle continues also today. İn front of wooden and stone made houses, silk and cotton are woven, different figured calabash trees are coloured, otantic food has been served in little gardens. Further, on the road to the castle restaurant and cafes are located on the sea side. The castle road is open to vehicle traffic. You can also walk to it in circa one hour..
The Red Tower
The Shipyard Sultan Aladdin Keykubat had started the shipyard construction to make his dream to become real and become “the sultan of two seas” two years after the construction of the tower. İt began to be built in 1227 and finished in one year, near Kızılkule (red tower) At the north side of the shipyard there is an epigraph and at the left side of the epigraph there is a small mosque, at the right side there is a dormitory for the soldiers. When you enter you can see the small holes, each one of them is 7.70 in width and 42.30 in length. These holes are tied to each other with arcs. This shipyard was active during the Ottoman period. In 1361, when the King of Cyprus invaded Antalya, the Ruler of Alaiye sent ships to Antalya Ruler Mahmut. Moreover he agreed with other Turkish Rulers and sent their navy to Cyprus. At that time there were good ship masters. But today it is abandoned to loneliness and it is trying to still stand. Entry is free to the dockyard which can be reached from the sea with boats or by walk.

Located on the seaport. This grand building erected in 1226 for military and dockyard control purposes is one of unique monuments of the Seljuks, and is the symbol of Alanya with its octagonal figure. İn 1226, The Sultan of the Seljuk’s, Alaaddin Keykubat, ordered the builder of the Sinop Castle craftsman Ebu Ali Reha el Kettani from Halep to build the tower. İt was very difficult to carry the stone blocks to the top of the tower during construction, therefore the top was built of red bricks and accordingly was named Red Tower. Some walls of tower was made of ancient marble. The tower has octagonal planned towers of each 12.5 mt wide 33 mt height and a diameter of 29. İt’s has 5 floors including the ground floor. The top can be reached by big stone stairs. The sunlight reaches from the top to the first floor. There is a cistern in the middle of the tower. The tower was built against the attacks to the harbour and the dockyard and was used centuries for martial targets. After repairs between 1951 and 1953, the first floor of the building functions as ethnography museum.
There are five museums in Alanya. These are; Alanya Museum, Red Tower Museum, Inner Fortress Museum, Middle Fortress Museum and Atatürk’s House. All of the museums are under control of the Head Office of Museums in Alanya and you have to pay for a visit. They are all open to visitors during the week except for lunch breaks. The most important work in Alanya is the statue of Heracleus exhibited in the Alanya Museum. Red Tower in the harbour is designed as to reflect the culture of Seljuk’s. Inner Fortress, built as the palace of the Sultan Alaaddin during the reconstruction of the city in the 13th century, is now a museum and open to visitors. The Statue of Heracles, made of bronze, 51.5 centimetres height and exhibited in Alanya Museum is thought to have been produced in II century BC. However, it is not known where it was made. It is expected to be a piece of puncher brought to Coracesium, an important centre for pirates in the Mediterranean. The bronze statue has a special place among the standing figures in the history of sculpture. Because the statue has a structural standing form never seen among the statues produced in the name of Heracles in the antiquity; the style of muscular and skeleton structures is unique and anatomical knowledge of the sculptor makes its viewers admire statue. The deformation clearly seen in the cartilage of the left ear of Heracles is seen among wrestlers and it represents the sportive character of Heracles, and the care of the sculptor for details. In the statue, Heracles is represented with his famous mace in his right hand, the fur-skin of the animal killed by him in his left hand and a little wreath of bay leaves on his head.

What would you like to eat in Alanya? Let us remind you: it is not possible to find such a variety of choices from all favourite kitchens of the world. We recommend you to taste Turkish food – exotic types of “Şiş kebab” prepared by chief cooks and traditional Alanya food. The fish, brought from the deep blue seas of the Mediterranean, are in the freezers for you. You should have a look. You may also start with a slice of white cheese and melon and “Raki”. Keep in mind that Rakı is very strong and drunk slowly. It should not be consumed quickly. Because of the anise it contains, raki changes colour and becomes a milky white when water is added. Additional glass of pure water to go with it gives a refreshing taste. Some people drink rakı straight .One sip rakı, one sip water – it softens this strong drink. Rakı goes well with good conversation. It is customary

F Business Travel Turkey’s Holding to Acquire 31% Stake in Valletta Cruise Port Global Yatırım Holding said its port operator, Global Ports Holding, has signed a binding deal to acquire a 30.79 percent stake in Valetta Cruise Port Plc (VCP), which has operational rights of the Malta cruise port and its retail areas, in a written statement. The completion of the stakes transfer will depend on the finalization of required legal and administrative permissions as well as future decisions by other partners of VCP about buying any more stakes. VCP won the operational rights of the Valetta Cruise Port in Malta, along with its accompanying buildings and lands measuring over 48,000 square meters, in an international tender in 2002 for the next 65 years, according to the statement. The company has also undertaken retail sales through Travel Shopping Ltd, with some 90 percent of stakes owned by it. GBTA revises U.S. Business Travel Outlook U.S. business travel spending will increase by 3.1 percent in 2015 and 3.7 percent in 2016; however the outlook is not that bright. While the number of trips is up, total spending per trip is down. The global oil price collapse and economic weakness in China, Russia and the Middle East may slow down U.S. Business Travel spending; a caution for the overall U.S. economy. These findings are part of the GBTA BTI™ Outlook – United States 2015 Q3, a report by the GBTA Foundation, the education and research arm of the Global Business Travel Association (GBTA), and sponsored by Visa, Inc. The Outlook released today represents a downward revision from the one released in July, when growth was projected to grow at 4.9 percent in 2015 and 5.4 percent in 2016. The revision can be attributed to three key factors: U.S. companies are becoming far more selective in authorizing business travel abroad as a result of global economic uncertainty and risk. While we expect 5.4 percent growth in International outbound business travel volume this year, spending growth rates will be slashed by more than 50 percent from 2014 (from 8.6 to 3.4 percent). Inflation in the business travel sector will be nearly flat (0.5 percent) in 2015 and modest (3.0 percent) in 2016, primarily due to the collapse of global oil prices. While the volume of U.S.

originated trips will increase 0.7 percent from 495.8 million in 2014 to 499.2 million in 2015 and 514.8 million in 2016, the total growth rate for spend is actually down. This is especially true in two areas – air travel spending, which will decrease by 3.4 percent in 2015, and ground transportation spending, which will decrease by 7.7 percent. Actual (as opposed to projected) business travel figures, which were revised to indicate higher trip numbers and lower spending figures for 2014 “According to the U.S. BTI forecast, companies are looking for ways increase business travel while still keeping costs in check,” said David Henstock, VP of Global Commercial Solutions, Visa Inc. “As companies look for efficiencies across their organization, electronic payments play a key role in helping both buyers and suppliers in the travel industry manage expenses and drive savings to their bottom line.” The study also finds that the collapse in global oil prices is finally beginning to impact consumers, particularly when it comes to air travel spending. In 2015, the average airfare for a domestic roundtrip is $379, compared to $392 in 2014. However, the benefit and savings from these lower fares is likely to be negated by increasing ancillary fees. During this same time period there has been an almost steady year-overyear increase in airline revenues from these extra fees.

Ocean Wing de club konaklayanların vazgeçilmez buluşma noktası The Clubhouse. Burası Ocean Wing’in executive Lounge’u.
