I love the feeling of a fresh start at the beginning of the year. Comanche Trace is still experiencing steady growth with new construction of custom homes, and the city of Kerrville has many new projects underway. The feeling is positive and there is anticipation of a renewal in 2012. We continue to water the golf course with treated effluent (recycled water) purchased from the City of Kerrville. We have received favorable rainfall over the last 2 months, which has helped improve the water levels and should bring a bright Spring our way. Traditionally, wildflowers in the hill country are stunning after strong winter rains. Overseeding of the course is coming in nicely. The white sands of the bunker remodel in 2011 sparkle against the greens. Comanche Trace is hosting several upcoming tournament events, such as the Golf Channel Amateur Tour, as well as the PGA Valero Texas Open qualifying rounds. In March, the Big Cup member event returns with various flights (including ladies) and more fun in a very playable format. Comanche Trace will once again host The First Friday Wine Share on March 2nd. There will be an After Party Dinner, which filled to capacity last year. You won’t want to miss it! If an important event is in your future, we would love for you to contact Comanche Trace to host. Our banquet menu has been revamped, with delightful and satisfying items. We are able to accommodate large groups of 100+, as well as smaller, intimate parties. And, the service before, during and after will more than meet your expectations. We are breaking through Winter, and Spring will soon be here. I for one will be happy to see warm weather coming our way. We have some great Club events lined up in the next few months and we anticipate a great turnout for each of them. The first Club event of 2012 is The Big Cup on March 3rd. It was a great success in its inaugural year last year. The Big Cup tournament is played with a cup that is an inch larger than the standard USGA cup. This event will be fun and should determine whether players can shoot lower scores with a larger cup. This is a Member/Member event, so find a partner and sign up for the first event of the year. The next big event this year is The Brute on April 28th & 29th. This is a Match Play Challenge in which each two person team will play 5 ninehole matches over two days against the other teams within their flight. Back by popular demand is Couples Twilight Golf on March 23rd. Twilight Golf is designed for couples to play golf and have dinner with other

couples in a fun, social environment. These are held on Friday evenings at 5 pm and will continue through November. Players of all handicaps are welcome to participate. We can’t wait to see you there! We also are very excited about the Hole-in-One Club that began in 2009. When a member of the Hole-in-One Club makes an ace at Comanche Trace, each of the other Hole-in-One Club members are billed $5.00. The money is placed into the Credit Book account of the person who shot the hole-in-one. We currently have 118 members enrolled. Our 2011 members recording a Hole-in-One are Toni Manchester, John Harrison,
Don Henderson, Trevor Hyde, Bill Novak, Barbara Lipe, John Swann, Steve Wade, and Doug Matey Jr. If you aren’t signed up, enroll now! You never know when that hole-in-one might happen. The touring professionals will be at Comanche Trace just as Spring is coming to Texas Hill Country. The PGA tour has revamped its schedule so that the Valero Texas Open will be the held two weeks after The Masters. Once again, the pre-qualifier and qualifying rounds of the Valero Texas Open will be hosted by Comanche Trace on April 12th and 16th. With the excellent condition of our bentgrass greens and fairways the touring professionals will be excited to play such a high caliber club.

By Jane Garbish By February, most people are well into the pursuit of their New Year’s resolutions. Those few extra pounds gained over the holidays, the result of tempting treats and too many parties, are being attacked with a vengeance. The treadmills at the gym are working overtime! The exercise habits that maybe slipped a little by year end are back on track. Will that be enough to get your weight down to a satisfactory and healthy level? PROBABLY NOT! Those extra holiday pounds maybe joined an already large number on the scale. Has your weight in the last few years been slowly creeping up? Unfortunately, you’re not alone. In case you haven’t noticed, we’re in the midst of an epidemic in America – OBESITY! In 1976, 15% of our population was in the obese category (having a body mass index of 30 or greater). By 2006, that category grew to 35.1%. And it’s only increasing. In an article in Prevention magazine (Oct. 2011), Dr. Arthur Agatston (author of the South Beach Diet), discussed how the obesity epidemic is affecting not only people’s waistlines, but their health as well. “If we don’t make the positive lifestyle changes needed to halt and reverse the obesity epidemic now – today – our health care system will be bankrupted by the sheer numbers of sick Americans.” As a cardiologist, Dr. Agatston is seeing increasing heart disease in people from ages 30 to 45, which he attributes to sedentary lifestyles and careless eating habits. He predicts that for the first time in modern history, this generation may have shorter life spans than their parents. As important as exercise is to health, exercise alone is not enough. Hours and hours of treadmill time can be negated by eating mistakes. And you don’t need to be a registered dietician to eat correctly. With so many choices out there, you just need to follow a few basic

principles to get you back on the right nutrition track. We can conquer the obesity epidemic, one meal at a time. It’s important not just to that number on the scale, but to our long term health. We may not be perfect, but by making healthier choices most of the time, we’ll be on the right track. You’re in control of what you eat. Make those choices count. Ask yourself the following questions:
WHAT ARE YOU EATING? What you put in your mouth has huge health correlations. Getting a well-balanced diet is a key to how you look and how you feel. Don’t get caught up in fad diets which forbid or severely limit entire food groups (low-carb, lowfat, high protein, etc.) What you should restrict, however, are processed foods. If it comes in a box or a bag and has more than 3 ingredients, it is probably a processed food. Think about this concept: Eat Closer to the Earth. That is, foods
in their natural state are going to be healthier than when they’re processed. For example, baked or roasted potatoes are much healthier than French fries. An orange is better than orange juice, which is better than an orange flavored sports drink. Limit the majority of your grocery purchases to the perimeter of the store (fruits and vegetables, meat, poultry and fish, low fat dairy products), and be sure and add whole grain cereals, breads and pastas.
HOW MUCH ARE YOU EATING? Besides eating many of the wrong things, Americans are eating way too much. We have super-sized our meals and our weight. Here’s an example. I have three sets of dishes, purchased in 1938, 1978, and 1998. Look at the changes: Dinner plate sizes: 1938 – 9.75”; 1978 – 10.75”; 1998 – 11.5”. We have always been taught to clean our plates, right? Well, a lot more food fits onto those new plates! Portion control is the key here. Know what a normal portion looks like, and stick to it. If you go out to dinner, ask for a to-go box before you start eating and put part of your meal in it. You won’t stuff yourself, and you’ll have lunch tomorrow!
WHERE ARE YOU EATING? In our multitasking society, it has become quite common to eat many of our meals standing at the kitchen counter, sitting in front of the computer, lounging on the couch with the TV, or in our car. When we acquire these habits, mindless eating takes over. We’re not consciously focused on what or how much we’re eating, nor
are we probably enjoying the experience. To make your meals a significant part of your day, sit at a dining table and focus on the task at hand. Whenever possible, make meals a time when you connect to family or friends. You will feel more satisfied because eating will become more than just about the food.
WHEN ARE YOU EATING? Eating regularly throughout the day is important. Begin with breakfast. Starting your day with some fruit, whole grains and protein will not only give you energy, but will also jump-start your metabolism. Eat regularly scheduled small meals and healthy snacks throughout the day instead of starving yourself and then gorging later. Your energy levels will be more balanced, and you will be getting the majority of your calories during the most physically active part of your day.

“I don’t remember meetIng glenn”, laughs leta andrew of her husband of 42 years. as glenn andrew tells It, “we’re two country kIds.”

Pecos”, theIr acquaIntance began In the thIrd grade. At Glenn and Leta’s rehearsal dinner Glenn’s mother, also a current resident of Comanche Trace, shared a story neither one remembered. When Glenn was about 10, his mother called a family meeting. “I’m going back to work,” she announced.” The consensus of the family was she could go back to work full-time, only if she continued to cook homemade biscuits every morning. At school the next day Leta announced to the class that she made biscuits the previous night. When Glenn shared this news with his mother she said, “You better marry her because nobody else will cook you biscuits like your mother does.” Leta adds, “He listened to his mother.”

Not only did Glenn listen to his mother but he also watched his father answer the call to serve his community. Glenn’s dad was very active in McCamey. As Glenn shares, his father was the oldest Certified EMT in the state of Texas at one time. Having a great example to follow propelled Glenn to serve in so many aspects of the community and for his industry. He is currently Vice-Chair of the board for Habitat for Humanity Kerr County. His goal over the past three years has been to provide a steady stream of income for the organization. He notes the Comanche Trace Golf Tournament is huge and adds that Comanche Trace related events have provided nearly $85,000 in donations this past year. The United Methodist Higher Education Foundation is another organization Glenn has been involved with for over 15 years. They provide $2 million plus in scholarships to students attending Methodist affiliated colleges across the US. He also served on the External Advisory Committee of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department for 18 years for his and Leta’s alma mater, The University of Texas at Austin. However, it wasn’t Leta’s plan to attend UT. One fateful call changed her direction. Out of the blue, in the early 1960’s, a representative of West Texas Utilities called Glenn’s father and

offered a full scholarship if Glenn would study engineering at The University of Texas. Glenn’s father said, “He wants to be a pharmacist”. “But I’ll pay for his education”, insisted the gentleman. Then the man added, “Do you know of anyone else that might want to go to UT?” “Yes, Glenn’s girlfriend” says his dad. “She’d love to go to UT and she’s the graduating valedictorian.” Before it was over, Leta was going to UT as well, instead of Texas Tech as she had planned. Glenn says, “It was an absolute blind blessing.” However, Leta’s dad was not as happy. Their first day on campus was August 1, 1966, the darkest day in The University of Texas history. Glenn and Leta were to meet at noon at the South Mall on campus. Fortunately, both were released late from freshman orientation. Whitman (the UT Sniper) was already in the Tower, his shooting rampage underway. As Glenn recalls, there were citizens getting their deer rifles, helicopters shooting at him and an airplane full of police trying to take him out overhead. Leta remembers that students were hiding behind any permanent structure they could find. Glenn remembers the image of the sun glistening off the gun. “I snuck out the back,
fortunately he never saw me.” They had no way of communicating and Glenn couldn’t find Leta. They finally reunited and knew they needed to call their parents. Hundreds were already in line to use the pay phones at the UT CO-OP. Leta told the operator she needed to make two calls. She reached Glenn’s parents and told them they were ok. But her mom and dad were at her sister’s in San Antonio and couldn’t be reached. Her parents learned of the incident by watching the news at noon. By the time Glenn and Leta made it back to the dorm, a green 1963 Chevy was parked in a no parking zone with Leta’s 6’4” father sitting on the hood. “Pack your suitcase, we’re going home.” Glenn and Leta figured they would appease him by giving him a tour of the “site”; even showing him the bullet hole at Sheftall’s Jewelry store where the famous shot was captured on the cover of Life Magazine. Leta stayed at UT and received her Bachelors degree in three years, majoring in math with a minor in computer science. At the time, UT didn’t offer a major in computer science. Leta was one of the first women to study the program. During her freshman year, Leta was a grader and then became a math tutor. Glenn beams of his wife, “No one tutored as a freshman.” Her first job out of college was a keypunch operator for an accounting firm. She interviewed with three state agencies including
UT and they would not hire her because she was a woman. “This was way before equal opportunity,” she states. Leta later became a statistician for the Texas Education Agency. Working in the engineering lab his freshman year at UT, Glenn took a liking to working with engineers, math and science. It took only one semester to leave behind his dream of becoming a pharmacist. Glenn received his Bachelor degree and Masters in electrical engineering. They stayed in Austin until 1975 while Glenn was working with Texas Instruments then Radian, a small research firm where he learned how to read the opacity of smoke. Then a call from a friend led them to Dallas and Glenn to Collins Radio, which was just being purchased by Rockwell International. Leta interjects, “He gave up smoke signals for telephones.” At a recent get together on their street in Comanche Trace, Glenn and a neighbor began a discussion and found out both are Certified Smoke Readers. Glenn spent 24 years with Rockwell. As busy as they were enjoying their now chosen professions and volunteer work, Glenn and Leta raised two children, Clay and Ambra. Glenn continued to answer the call to give back to his community in Allen, Texas. During the 24 years they lived there, the population grew from 1500 to 40,000. Glenn was right in the middle of that growth. He served on the City Council, the Planning and Zoning Board and the Allen School Board. He

often told his children, “Don’t get in trouble because I’ll hear about it before you get home.” That’s an easy claim when you’ve hired most of the police force. Clay is now a minister in Hillsboro, Oregon and married to Jen. Kerrville residents Ambra and Brett Starr are expecting their first child next month. Glenn and Leta love to travel. For the past 22 years they have enjoyed “Getting down the hill,” as Leta says, in Steamboat, Colorado. They picked up the sport at the age of 40. They also enjoy hiking in national parks. They’ve spent the night in 33 states. Glenn says driving through doesn’t count. They actually have to sleep there. They’ve made trips abroad and lived for short stints in England and Australia. Their interests are commingled, even photography. Glenn purchased a camera when Clay was born and started tinkering with it then. But really got more involved closer to retirement when he needed something to do. As they began traveling, it fell into place and was second nature to take photos. Leta contributes by pointing out great subjects. Ambra moved to Kerrville in 1999 giving Glenn and Leta the opportunity to revisit the area. When in college, their parents were good friends and would travel from McCamey to meet Glenn and Leta at the Kerrville State Park. “We had always known Kerrville since we were in college.” says Glenn. As they watched Comanche Trace develop, they played golf and soon became more interested in the community. Even one of Glenn’s secretaries at Rockwell sent him an email, “Check out Comanche Trace.” At this point in their lives, Glenn and Leta were living in Florida

and Glenn had retired for the second time. They were planning a move back to somewhere in Texas. The car was packed for their investigative journey of where to go in Texas and Glenn said; “I’m going to take a nap before we start driving.” He went to lie down and the phone rang. Glenn answered the call from the senior pastor of their church in Florida asking if he would handle the business operations for the church. Glenn responded, “Well we’re moving back to Texas.” Glenn told him he would take the job after three months. During that time they explored more of Comanche Trace. On their second visit, they made a reservation for the not yet constructed golf villas. “We put the money down and I went to work for the church back in Florida.” They planned to stay in Florida one more year and it turned into four. Finally Leta said, “The furniture and I are going back to Texas, would you like to join us?” Glenn told the church in Florida, “I’m putting the house on the market, when it sells, I’m gone.” They returned to Comanche Trace and moved into the villa they had purchased. But after visiting one of the properties on that year’s Tour of Homes, Glenn announced he was buying that house. They spent one month in the villa, had buyers lined up to purchase, sold it and moved to their current abode. At many turns in their lives they have received life-changing calls. Whether for profit, service or awaiting news of the birth of their grandchild, when it comes to giving back to the community, Glenn and Leta Andrew answer the call.

the IncredIble generosIty of many comanche trace members was on dIsPlay at the annual “trIm the tree event” held at comanche trace on thursday, december 1st. Each year, members are given the opportunity to provide gifts requested by children at Arms of Hope/Medina Children’s Home. This year, each of the 84 children housed at the home were sponsored by a Comanche Trace member. Each child lists one special wish gift. The sponsor member tries to find that item. In reality, however, many children receive multiple gifts. Due to the over whelming response by Comanche Trace members, several members did not have children to sponsor. That did not stop them, however. Dozens of gift cards from several Kerrville shops and stores were purchased to be used to augment the needs of the children. One donation of $2,000 received from the My Friends Foundation will be used for additional gifts and needs. Such is the warmth, heartfelt feeling, and spirit of the Season of the members at Comanche Trace.

Each year the Annual Cart Parade participants come up with something unique and FUN! This year was no exception. More than 80 members decorated more than 30 golf carts with holiday décor and special creativity. The Annual Cart Parade is a sight to see, as participants take this event very seriously and produce some very original cart designs. Some members dressed up as penguins, although warm weather penguins. There was traditional caroling at several

stops. This year the perpetual youth of the members shown through as they performed in a “Flash Mob” at a couple of stops along the way. Each year Santa & Mrs. Claus join the revelers in heralding the beginning of the Christmas season. Dinner at the Club was enjoyed by many of the participants, joined by several other Comanche Trace members. Special thanks go to the Cart Parade Committee for another stellar performance.

Many members enjoyed a sumptuous dinner with beautiful decorations and great fellowship at the Annual Candlelit dinner in December. A guest entertainer provided additional Christmas festivity by singing several well known Christmas carols. A five-course dinner made the evening memorable, as all of the guests went home happy and satisfied.
Over forty happy Comanche Trace members & their families attended the Annual Family Holiday event. This December party provided an opportunity for Santa Claus to greet the attending youngsters and their families. Many took advantage of this great photo-op with Santa. One of the highlights of the evening was decorating gingerbread houses. Each child enjoyed the chance to share his/her artistic talents, and all created designs representative of the season. The kids also constructed snow-globes which will help create a fond memory of this special evening. Enhanced energy efficiency and reduced long term maintenance costs are the objectives of a project which is being offered to select home owners of Habitat for Humanity Kerr County built homes. This project is being funded by a $50,000 lead gift from The Kemmerer Family Foundation and Comanche Trace. Habitat for Humanity Kerr County has built over 90 homes for those deserving quality homes at very affordable costs. These homes were built to high quality standards and in compliance
with local and state building standards and codes. Some built in the 1980’s were built without a moisture barrier wrapping the entire home. While compliant with codes, the addition of this type barrier offers significant enhancements of energy efficiency and improved long term maintenance performance. The Board of Governors of Comanche Trace unanimously supports the project, and have each expressed their willingness to volunteer time toward it. Due to the nature of this project,
combined financial support and volunteer labor are needed to ensure its success. The contribution by The Kemmerer Family Foundation, along with the volunteer efforts of Comanche Trace residents, will provide the structure for success. Also, matching donations will be sought from local corporations and individuals to ensure full participation and completion of all homes warranting this improvement. They pave the parking lot of the Club at Comanche Trace. However, they are now a rarity and their story is another interesting part of Comanche Trace. Thurber is a coal-mining ghost town in Erath County, Texas, located 75 miles west of Ft. Worth. It currently has an overall population of about twenty-five. 32 LIFESTYLE february/march 2012

Hi story Coal-mining operations began in Thurber in 1886 and reached a peak around 1920, when the town had a population of approximately 8,000. At the peak, Thurber was one of the largest bituminous coal-mining towns in Texas. Established as a company town, the mining operations in Thurber were unionized in 1903 and Thurber became the first totally closed shop town in the country. The company that owned the town, the Texas and Pacific Coal Company, also produced vitrified paving bricks that were
used throughout Texas and the southern half of the United States. By 1920, conversion of locomotives from coal to oil reduced demand and lowered prices. Miners left the area through the 1920s. By 1935, in the midst of the Great Depression, Thurber was essentially a ghost town. tHurbe r’s De C LiNe The years from 1903 to 1920 were bounteous years for the Thurberites. There was stability, families grew and there was a security in
work and belonging to a great nation. Thurber coal production peaked at 2000 tons per day in 1915. In 1931, the Thurber Brick Plant closed and the Ranger Oil Boom had fizzled out. The T&P Oil Company, as it was now called, moved its headquarters from Thurber to Ft. Worth. The company salvaged and sold everything in Thurber except two brick buildings, the smokestack, the fire station and three houses. There are 127,000 tons of coals remaining under Thurber. There are many who believe when oil and gas plays out, Thurber’s coal will be recovered by modern technology, such as gasification. br iC k M a kiNG Eighteen kilns turned out 80,000 bricks a day and Thurber brick was said to be the “best brick west of the Mississippi.” Thirty-five different types of bricks were made in Thurber, but the specialty was paving brick. Thurber paving brick covered Congress Avenue in Austin, Camp Bowie and the Stockyards in Ft. Worth, portions of the Old Bankhead Highway in North Central Texas and many streets in Mineral Wells, Strawn, Ranger, Eastland and Cisco. Road builders began paving with asphalt and the Depression slowed road building. The Thurber Brick Plant ceased operations in 1931, and the plant was salvaged. Today, the only reminders of brick making are the brick walls, foundations and scattered remnants of bricks. Thurber bricks became a part of Comanche Trace when Bobby Shelton, former owner, located a building in the Ft. Worth Stockyards that was being demolished. He brought 16,000 bricks to Kerrville, and had them laid as pavers in the parking lot of the then offices for his ranch operation. Those bricks are still a part of the beautiful tapestry of Comanche Trace history. Located on the site of the former manufacturing and coal plant, New York Hill restaurant is one of the best family style restaurants in in the region. The food, service and friendliness are all comfort food for the soul, and the views can’t be beat! Current ownership and staff includes three generations of the Mills family.

For Mark Eubank being a good architect starts with being a good listener. When sitting down with clients for the first time, Mark Eubank is on a fact-finding mission to gather information about their needs, wants and their lifestyle. “It’s personal and I know I’m 38 LIFESTYLE february/march 2012
a steward of their time and money,” shares Eubank. Listening is the key to designing a home that reflects the client and their lifestyle. “My passion has to do with the people and the art,” says Eubank. Eubank was 10 years old when he realized,
“This is what I want to do.” He remembers an evening at the home of a friend of his parents. The friend’s son, an architecture student, was home from college working on a project for school. Eubank, mesmerized by the framed house inside the glass box, decided right then and there that he was going to be an architect. Knowing what he wanted to do at such a young age Eubank still managed not to take a straight path to get there. Growing up in Abilene, Texas Tech was a natural college choice with a great School of Architecture. Eubank spent 2 ½ years at Tech then decided to take a semester off from school. One semester turned into 5 years including serving in the Army during Vietnam. Back from Vietnam, Eubank headed to Austin, got a job framing houses and finished his Architecture degree at The University of Texas. Eubank feels that time spent framing houses makes him a better architect. “I understand how the sticks go together.” One of Eubank’s first jobs in Austin was for a firm that did commercial interiors. He learned about interior space design, colors and materials. “It was architectureit was just inside,” shares Eubank. Eubank then also became a licensed Interior Designer adding yet another talent to his resume. One of the clients he designed for at that time was James Avery. When it was time to make a

change due to the Austin economy, Eubank was asked to work with James Avery in Kerrville. The timing was right and he and his wife, Beth, moved to Kerrville in 1989. After Avery’s, Eubank joined the newly formed Artisan Group. Artisan Group worked extensively in commercial projects, but also designed fine homes from the beginning through the entire building process. Artisan Group was the “complete package” and prided themselves in choosing the perfect selection in all aspects of home design – just the right paint colors, flooring, hardware, doors, windows, etc. to exceed clients’ expectations. After a move overseas for a year, something he and his wife felt would be good for their family, Eubank finally decided to go out on his own in 2004. Speaking of family, Mark has been married to his wife, Beth, for 35 years. Beth is a large part of the business and serves as his Accounting Department. Their son, Benjamin, recently joined the Kerrville Police Department. Benjamin and his wife, Caitlin, recently gave Mark and Beth their first grandchild. Mark and Beth’s twin daughters are both in college where Elizabeth is an art major specializing in ceramics and print- making,

and Emily is a theater major. Artistic threads weave throughout the Eubank family. Eubank’s design contributions have truly enhanced the Comanche Trace community. He has created wonderful unique designs for our neighborhoods, but more importantly,
for his many satisfied customers. A drive through Comanche Trace will reveal excellent examples of his work from Hill Country to French Country and old world to modern. It’s not always easy to tell which homes are his designs because no two are alike. “No two
designs are alike because no two clients are alike,” answers Eubank. Yet they all start with a blank piece of paper, a myriad of questions and truly listening to his clients. As Eubank says, “We always begin with the end in mind.”

As we went into the front door I could not help but notice the study – what a great place to read a book or watch my favorite program while he watches the U.S. Open on our big TV in the great room. There is even a small office tucked just off the study so that we have the perfect spot to catch up on our emails or see what all of our friends on Facebook are doing. Wonder what the special in The Grill is tonight. The dining room is large enough to hold my round dining table, and part of the dining room is now being used as a music room. What a great idea! I always wanted to learn to play the cello or maybe a guitar – after all, it is Texas. Perhaps I could just use the whole room for a dining table that would seat a nice crowd for Christmas dinner. Either way, the space will work for us. Those guitar lessons are sounding better and better. The kitchen has such pretty granite countertops. It is a beautiful color of gold and looks so organic. The cabinets have the perfect color stain to go with the granite. There is even a cabinet with glass doors for Grandmother’s tureen – no more dusting. The great room has a granite counter for enjoying a nice drink or
the perfect spot for me to watch my husband make me breakfast. The pantry is just the right size for us. This downsizing is going to be wonderful. This house is immaculate and has the most wonderful back porch we have seen in our search. There is a live oak tree in the back yard and the views of the golf course, the old Rock Barn, and surrounding hill country are some of the best views we have seen. We are right beside the green. The rock walls that surround the porch provide privacy and style. This spot will be the envy of all of our golfing friends. One of my husband’s favorite things about this home is that the yard is maintained by the staff for such a reasonable fee. The master bedroom has a large closet. It is nice that I can walk through the closet into the master bath if I want. The wood floors in the bedroom are so nice. They look like they were installed yesterday. I am so glad to have the plantation shutters already installed. It will be so simple to make this home feel like we have
lived here for a while. The master bath is large with two sinks, a nice deep soaking tub and separate shower. I can hardly wait to get into that tub—will it be Chablis or the Shiraz? There is another full bath and guest bedroom with a large walk-in closet. Better be careful or guests will never want to go home. The convenience of this location in Comanche Trace will be hard to beat. We can just walk across the street to the fitness center, swimming pool, walking trails, and tennis courts. I can’t wait to meet our neighbors and become a part of all of this. When we met with the Membership Director and she gave us the social calendar, I was so happy to see all of the opportunities to play golf – serious golf and that fun “Lady Niner” group could be perfect for me. Sounds like they have a ball. Can’t wait to join in. This is the perfect house for us. We can hardly wait to get started enjoying this lifestyle we have searched for all over the country. We feel so lucky to have found the perfect house and community for us. Honey, I feel like having over-easy eggs this morning – and don’t burn the toast. LIFESTYLE february/march 2012 43

My name is Sheba Hipple and I love living in Comanche Trace. When I was just a pup, the folks on Rock Barn had a “Puppy Shower” just for me. Well maybe it was just an excuse for them to have a party. Rock Barn is known as the party street. My favorite thing to do is join Bill on the porch at night. While he smokes a cigar and listens to the Ranch Radio, I sit and watch all the deer and squirrels. During the day, you may see me trying to chase the deer as I run alongside our golf cart. I haven’t caught one yet

but it doesn’t stop me from trying! I do have some chores I have to get done before I go out for my morning exercise. The most important is to retrieve the newspaper. Bill and Peggy tell me I am a retriever. I like to stay involved in the community. I volunteer with the Canine Literacy Program. Those kids are getting to be such good readers. You should come join me sometime or keep an eye out for the Bark for Life. It’s a great way to give back and socialize at the same time.
