BLM Seeks Nominations to Fill Advisory Committee Vacancies for BENM and GSENM

SALT LAKE CITY - The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is seeking nominations for the Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument Advisory Committees to fill existing and upcoming vacancies. The committee members are volunteers who provide advice and recommendations to the BLM on the development and implementation of management plans for the monuments. Each advisory committee has 15 members with diverse backgrounds and expertise, including Tribal, local business, county and state, education, conservation, developed or dispersed outdoor recreation, ranching, and sportsmen and sportswomen, as well as expertise in paleontology, archaeology, and history. Both advisory committees are formally chartered under the Federal Advisory Committee Act and the Federal Land Policy and Management Act. “Monument Advisory Committees serve an important role in the Bureau’s Vacancies

There were over 400 entries and around 60 groups that took part in the 2022 Panguitch Ice Fishing Derby on February 5, 2022. Prizes were given for "Heaviest" and "Longest Fish" in the Adult, Youth, and Group categories. "Prettiest Fish" was given to Dillon Zierenberg (bottom right), and "Ugliest Fish" was given to Joel Campbell (bottom left). Capitol Reef N.P. Visitor Center Closed for Installation of New Exhibits CAPITOL REEF N.P. New exhibits for the Capitol Reef Visitor Center will soon be installed. To facilitate the installation, the visitor center will be closed from February 21 – March 2, 2022. This milestone, in conjunction with the rehabilitation of the interior of the visitor center in 2021, completes a multi-year project to update the exhibits to better interpret the many and diverse resources of the park as it celebrates its 50th year. Visitors planning to visit can find information about the park on the website at www. nps.gov/care or with the NPS app. Many frequently asked questions can be answered by calling 435-425-3791. Park maps and Fruita area guides, including hiking trail information, are available outside the visitor center. The park store is always open online at www. capitolreefnha.org. Escalante High School to Exhibit Utah’s Top Student Artwork

Escalante High School will host the All-State Utah High School Art Exhibition from February 14 - March 7, 2022. Included in the exhibition will be "A New Beginning" (left)—oil on canvas—by Violet Andrew of Payson High School and "More Precious than Gold" (right)—Oil on board— by Jack Beck of Spanish Fork High School. ESCALANTE - Escalante High School presents the AllState Utah High School Art Exhibition, part of the Utah Arts & Museums’ Traveling Exhibition Program. Sponsored each spring by the Springville Museum of Art, this statewide high school art competition provides a professional forum for students to display their best work and an opportunity to highlight a talented arts educator. choose to enter. The exhibition provides exposure for graduating students within the state. BOULDER - At the February 2022 Boulder Planning Commission meeting, Town Planner Lee Nellis led discussion on ordinance amendments. Certain updates to Boulder’s ordinances are necessary to conform with recent changes in the State Legislature. There are many changes that will need to be made, and Nellis will be presenting a few at a time. Presenting them in this manner will allow for more focused discussion within the Planning Commission and more focused public hearings. In assessing necessary changes, Nellis came across a number of inconsistencies and lacking items in the ordinances, including that there are three different definitions of subdivisions. It was also brought up that there is a definition of “billboard” in the subdivision ordinance, rather than in the sign ordinance. This definition will either be moved to the sign ordinance or possibly removed altogether. Nellis stated that the subdivision ordinance in general will need a lot of work to
