From Uncharted Water to Right as Rain The First Time in Utah’s History a Healthcare Facility Had to Use an Emergency Water Filtration System was a Highly Successful Response PANGUITCH - Early Saturday morning, July 14, 2018, flash flood waters that ran over the site of last year’s Brian Head fire overwhelmed and contaminated the spring water collection boxes that feeds into Panguitch City’s culinary water system. It caused the city to have to declare an immediate “No Water Use” order for anyone that uses Panguitch city culinary water. What that meant is: absolutely no water use whatsoever, even if boiled, if you used Panguitch’s culinary water. What would this mean for Garfield Memorial Hospital, who uses the city’s culinary water? When one starts to consider just how much water is used in so many different ways inside a hospital, it’s daunting. Water isn’t just Water Filtration Cont'd on page 7

On July 14, flash flood waters contaminated Panguitch City's culinary water system. Garfield Memorial had to react fast to solve the issue that came with the "No Water Use" declaration after this event. Cooperation between multiple people and facilities resulted in the hospital being able to acquire a robust filtration system that could filter between 120 gallons and 720 gallons of water an hour. Along with these, there were eight five-gallon water containers used for handwashing stations and a hot water heater to supply much needed hot water for long term patients.
