Depression and Anxiety Worsened During the Pandemic, Intermountain Study Finds SALT LAKE CITY The COVID-19 pandemic has not only affected the physical health of millions of Americans, but it’s also taken a toll on the country’s mental health. A new study by researchers at Intermountain Healthcare in Salt Lake City finds that depression remained common during the pandemic and worsened for some patients leading to increased visits to the emergency department for treatment of anxiety and chest pain. Researchers found that nearly 40 percent of patients studied reported new or continuing symptoms of depression during the first year of the pandemic. They say the study of 4,633 patients is further evidence of the pandemic’s negative impact on people’s mental health and physical well-being has been significant. Findings from the study were presented at the American Heart Association’s virtual 2021 Scientific Session. “These findings are significant. In looking at the first year of the pandemic, we are already seeing the mental health effects on our patients,” said Heidi T. Monument Announces Winter, Holiday Hours for Visitor Centers

KANAB - The Bureau of Land Management’s Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument transitioned to a winter schedule for the monument’s visitor centers starting on Saturday, Nov. 20. TORREY - The November 11, 2021 Torrey Town Council meeting kicked off with a public hearing for the proposed Control of Backflow and Cross Connections Ordinance. This ordinance would require that all irrigation systems have backflow prevention. “It’s more to protect the homeowner,” said Dustin Oyler. The council approved the ordinance and will notify town residents about the new requirements. Councilmember Jordan Pace then presented the results of the General Election canvass on behalf of Town Clerk Mel Pace. Two provisional ballots were cast on election day and two ballots were received after November 2nd but were post-dated on November 1st. All four ballots were counted during the canvass. The council approved the results. Mickey Wright then presented some changes to the Torrey Town Zoning Ordinance having to do with allowing a temporary increase of livestock on lots for temporary fire prevention, defining a dwelling as one that is suitable for human habitation, and clarifying the definition of a home occupation
