Life as an Apprentice with Wilo

LIFE AS AN APPRENTICE

Jayven Powell, 18, is doing a Level 3 Diploma with Wilo UK. We recently caught up with Jayven to give us an insight into life as an apprentice and what he’s enjoying the most.

“AN APPRENTICESHIP ALSO MEANS YOU LEARN ON THE JOB WHILE EARNING A WAGE”

QHIP Magazine: Why did you choose to do an apprenticeship?

AJayven Powell: I wanted to gain skills and knowledge that I wouldn’t be able to get at university. An apprenticeship also means you learn on the job while earning a wage. In the future I want to become a fully qualified service engineer.

QHIP: What’s the best thing about working at Wilo?

AJP: Every day is different and being able to learn from the team on the job has helped me to gain more independence and experience.

QHIP: Tell us about some of your day-to-day tasks?

AJP: I go on site visits with the Wilo engineers to observe what they do and assist with work like servicing, pump installs and call-outs. As part of my qualification I attend college just one day a week.

QHIP: What’s been your favourite moment so far?

AJP: My favourite moment was visiting a student accommodation building in Manchester where we carried out a site survey of their pumps. I’ve also been lucky enough to have worked on different types of jobs, including hospitals and supermarkets where I helped replace circulating pumps!
