building a strong future for commercial real estate Since 1967, NAIOP, the Commercial Real Estate Development Association, has become the leading organization for developers, owners and investors of office, industrial, retail and mixed-use real estate. The organization has more than 18,000 members nationwide. “The organization was created to protect the interests and the industry of commercial real estate, primarily focusing on the development side,” Randi Reed, executive director of NAIOP Northern Nevada, said. The NAIOP Northern Nevada chapter started in 2006 and this year mark’s the chapter’s 10-year anniversary. The chapter now has 96 members and has been recognized as the chapter with the largest membership increase for the past two years in a row, increasing by 55 percent each year. “Membership growth is double what any other chapter across the United States and Canada is doing,” Reed said. “For us, that is a huge milestone.” NAIOP works to advocate and advance the interests of developers and brokers by lobbying for legislation that supports the commercial real estate industry. The chapter’s membership benefits provide ample opportunity to meet with decision-makers and industry leaders, stay in the know with breaking industry news and legislation as well as establish connections and partnerships with fellow members. Membership options are designed to service a variety of corporate or individual needs. “The camaraderie within this industry, because we are in such a small community, is extremely tight knit,” Reed said.

Members of NAIOP Northern Nevada have great opportunities at the local level to enhance their business through educational programs, networking, and legislative affairs. The chapter hosts a variety of events throughout the year such as quarterly luncheons and social mixers, the annual NAIOP Bus Tour, the NAIOP Developers Forum, NAIOPOLY and the NAIOP/CREW golf Tournament. Members can also get involved at the national level by attending conferences for continuing education, participating in National Forums for professional development and working to advance legislative initiatives like real estate taxation issues on Capitol Hill. NAIOP Northern Nevada and NAIOP Southern Nevada collaborate to influence legislation in Nevada and give developers a voice. “We have these fantastic developers who really have a pulse on not only what is happening here in northern Nevada but on the West Coast and nation wide as well,” Reed said. NAIOP has member representatives from firms such as Panattoni, Dermody Properties, United Construction, Basin Street Properties, Ticor Title, Dickson Commercial Group, Avison Young, SVN Gold Dust Commercial Associates and many more. “These are the movers and shakers,” Reed said. “These are the people who are making the deals. These are the people who are building the buildings.” NAIOP Northern Nevada also has a long history of giving back to the community by supporting education and helping those less fortunate. Every year donations to local charities are made from a portion of the revenue generated from the annual NAIOP Bus Tour, the annual CREW/NAIOP Golf Tournament and the joint awards event for commercial real estate, the Summit Awards.
