the 301 level, the job seekers apply those skills in finding competitive employment. HSI Career Development Specialist Allison Cunningham said she’s focused on the individual’s goals and thinking outside the box to shape their career path. “I want the CDA to be known for getting people jobs they want that help them reach their long-term goals, not just placing people to place them,” Cunningham said. The results speak for themselves. “CDA has definitely helped me out,” commented CDA job seeker Tianna Evans. “I can get my thoughts out and express myself. The extra tasks and assessments helped me develop future job skills.” For more information and to schedule a tour, call (775) 829-7400 or visit www.hsireno.org. HSI-WARC, Northern Nevada’s largest notfor-profit organization, has a proven record for creating and delivering innovative, effective training, development and assessment services for people with disabilities. Case in point: HSI’s Career Development Academy-NV™ (CDA-NV). Launched in January 2014, CDA places students with developmental disabilities into competitive employment within the community and with partner businesses. According to HSI Executive Director LaVonne Brooks, it’s a unique type of learning opportunity. “CDA uses Applied Behavioral Analysis, the gold standard for training and education, considered an evidence-based best practice by the American Psychological Association and the U.S. Surgeon General,” Brooks noted. “It’s very data driven.” But CDA is more than just data. “The CDA lets them take pride in their work — often for the first time,” she continues. “The experience of doing a real job is something many of us take for granted.” The CDA’s 101 class targets the students’ selfmanagement skills, and understanding their options and opportunities. In 201, the individuals learn resume writing, networking and interview skills. At

The Chamber announces the Young Entrepreneurs’ Academy (YEA!) Class of 2015 The Chamber announces the Young Entrepreneurs’ Academy (YEA!) Class of 2015. These Northern Nevada students have just begun their 30-week transformative journey to become real entrepreneurial successes. The class will meet weekly, through the school year, at Truckee Meadows Community College. Students will brainstorm and form their enterprises, make pitches to real investors, obtain funding, file their DBAs, and actually launch their own business or social movement. Students will have priority access to community and business resources through robust curriculum and in a variety of mediums. Students will be connecting with local experts and resources through inclusion of business mentors, guest speakers, and business field trips. And leading the charge to their growth and development will be volunteer instructors and entrepreneurs Eric Madison, Executive Director of the Cube at Midtown, and Devin Sizemore, Owner/ Founder of MarkUBiz. “The YEA! program is exactly the kind of program The Chamber is proud to bring to our community in an effort to build awareness of the entrepreneurial spirit in our young people. The 2015-2016 class will learn the many stages and facets of what it takes to launch a sustainable and success business.” says Len Stevens, CEO of The Chamber.
