GRAND CIRCLE DIEGO. CYRIL COSTILHES SIKOST-PHOTOGRAPHY.COM Buried beneath its wild undergrowth and savage natural beauty, the Madagascan town of Diego Suarez hides many secrets. In 2003, whilst riding his motorbike home from Le Grand Circle Diego casino one evening, Cyril Costilhes’ father was involved in an accident that left him crippled with front lobe dementia. As a result, just over 10 years later, Costilhes has returned to shoot the mysteries of the land that snared his father’s sanity. The French photographer recorded his findings in his new book the Grand Circle Diego – and the results are dark, twisted and startling. Check it at TIPI!

ONE ROAD. KAZUO KITAI As I walked through these villages where everything had been washed away, including houses and sea walls, there were traces to indicate where once had been a road. People had started to walk again on these traces, reforming a path on top of the original. It was as if the road had a life of its own.I have taken countless photographs on roads that have been trodden by people over many ages. These roads become superimposed on the roads I see in the disaster region, and these also seem overlaid with the road from Anshan along which my family fled as refugees. Check it at TIPI!

1000. SATOSHI MACHIGUCHI Machiguchi Satoshi 1000 presents (over) 1000 pages of full-framed, close-cropped photographs of some of the most influential photo-books of the past seven decades. A resource and a treasure, it is authored by art director Satoshi Machiguchi, an individual referred to as “the son of a photo-book� and known for his work as a designer of photo- and art-books with photographers such as Daido Moriyama. MEMORABILIA. GÁBOR ARION KUDÁSZ WWW.ARIONKUDASZ.COM Painter Emese Kudász died on 22 November, 2010. In the years that followed, her son Gábor Arion Kudász catalogued her entire estate, so as to establish a guide to the workings of memory. The artistic research disrupted the order she had created, something that surrounded her and was distinctively her own. Through the cracks of this disrupted order, hidden aspects of her personality emerged, together with a previously unrealized coherence among her objects; it is no longer possible to tell whether these had existed before or were only the result of the intervention. DREAMING LEONE. ALVARO DEPRIT WWW.ALVARODEPRIT.COM In the 70s and 80s, the Tabernas desert near Almeria in Southern Spain became the Hollywood of Westerns. It was here that legendary filmmaker Sergio Leone made movies like “Once Upon a Time in the West”, “For a Fistful of Dollars”, “For a Few Dollars More” and “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly”, making the desert of Tabernas, with its landscapes, movies sets, and relatively low cost, a point of reference for Westerns.
