The IDOL is our idol because we’ve never designed a helmet with lower CO2 impact. “Made in Germany”, a plant-oil based hard shell and straps and aeration mechanism from recycled plastic - made from old PET bottles and textile waste. HELMETS THE HUMAN HEAD A helmet is a complex construction with the highest demand on quality. But to provide optimum protection every helmet also needs to have a perfect fit. This is not always an easy feat to achieve, as the human head comes in many different shapes and sizes. For years now ALPINA has been analysing the diverse demands arising from different anthropometric features and optimising products for them to provide a perfect fit for each and every individual.

PERCENTAGE DISTRIBUTION OF HEAD CIRCUMFERENCE ALPINA strives to optimise its helmet design by taking into account the essential characteristics affecting the helmet’s fit and the wearer’s sense of comfort. These should cater for all head sizes and shapes. Some clear distribution patterns can be recognised, which are important to consider. The average woman’s head has a circumference of 56 cm; for a man the figure is 58 cm.

CERAMIC SHELL

All ALPINA helmets have inner shells made of HI-EPS (highly expanded polystyrene). This material consists of many microscopically small air chambers which effectively absorb the forces caused by an impact. Hi-EPS provides optimum protection with the benefit of allowing extra-thin walls and slim-line helmet designs.

This impact- and scratch-resistant polycarbonate shell is fitted to all ALPINA helmets manufactured using the Inmold procedure. The blank work pieces are shaped at high temperature onto the form of the helmet design and the shells are then pressed onto the helmet‘s Hi-EPS body. The material combines a number of distinct advantages: it is impact and scratch-resistant, it contains UV stabilisers and is anti-static.

INMOLD

JET VISION

The Inmold production process involves the polycarbonate outer shell of the helmet being heated to a high temperature and „baked“ onto the EPS helmet body at high pressure. This produces a permanent bond across the entire surface of the inner and outer shells, producing a helmet with the advantage of being very light yet extremely stable.

As the production process shows, a helmet is a complex construction which has to meet the highest standards of quality. HELMET TECHNOLOGIES

KOROYD - Breathable Protection Koroyd is an extremely stable and lightweight honeycomb structure, which is made up of a multitude of connected tubes. They are composed of two layers. The inner core is formed by thin cells, which are thermally welded via a second outer layer. In the event of impact, the system absorbs the energy and flattens. It is a high-performance material that can be cut, CNC-milled or laminated for any shape. Due to the stable design of the small tubes, Koroyd also allows for much larger openings in the helmet surface, which guarantee excellent ventilation.

CARBON TEC For the best possible protection choose Carbon Tec. This helmet incorporates carbon in the Inmold process, a highly efficient material which produces a helmet that is tough yet lightweight. Integrated carbon-fibre plates in the outer shell make the ROOTAGE even more resilient and light. Any impact force at a given point on the helmet is reduced as it is absorbed by the carbon-fibre and distributed across a wider area.

This manufacturing process ensures that there are no sharp edges to be found on Inmold helmets, reducing the risk of getting hurt in two ways: firstly, handling the helmet is always comfortable for the hands, and secondly, the bottom edge of the helmet will not cause scratches to the neck and shoulder areas in the event of a crash.

The Airstream Control allows the climate management to be actively regulated via a sliding upper helmet shell. The airflow can thus be regulated and adapted to weather conditions. Perfect climate inside the helmet is thus guaranteed at all times.

COMFORT

AIR FLOW VENTING ALPINA developers dedicate a lot of time and energy to continually improving the ventilation of our cycle helmets. After testing the layout of the vents in the wind tunnel our engineers can create a kind of Venturi effect inside the helmet to cool the head, reduce sweat levels and increase performance.

ANTIBACTERIAL INTERIOR

The front ventilation holes have a mesh lining which effectively works as an insect screen to protect the wearer‘s head from insect bites when riding in hot or humid conditions.

The padding is designed to prevent the development of bacteria and odour caused by sweat. The helmet pads have been dermatologically tested and have excellent skin compatibility. They can also be easily removed and washed at a maximum temperature of 40° C.

ERGOMATIC A helmet can only provide proper protection if it stays securely in place in the event of an impact. The fastening that joins the two straps under the ear is critical to this. ALPINA‘s Y-Clip system guarantees a perfect fit down to the last millimetre, all in a matter of seconds.

CUSTOM FIT

Tried and tested countless times, this is the buckle used in all ALPINA cycle helmets. It features a red push button and multi-step automatic adjustment. It can be used one-handed, so for example you can loosen the strap when riding uphill and tighten it again for the descent, and it will not open in the event of a crash.

Because heads vary in shape they need an adjustment system that is flexible. In combination with the Run Systems, Custom Fit ensures a slip-free, snug fit. The rear neck support can be adjusted to several angles of incline so that it fits snugly and without pressure points.

Like its big brother Run System Ergo Pro, the helmet adjustment system also offers the two newly developed „head rests“ for pressure distribution, plus a new, easier-to-use adjustment wheel at the back of the helmet. The only difference between this and the Run System Ergo Pro is that the wing-shaped pads and the adjustment wheel are made of plastic only.

The ALPINA adjustment systems for the rear of the head features two large „head rests“ to the left and right of a newly-designed adjustment wheel. These two wing-shaped pads and the adjustment wheel are made of a twincomponent mix of plastic and rubber. Since 2014, Run System Ergo Pro has been available in colours to match the helmet.

The RUN SYSTEM ERGO TOCSEN holds the helmet securely and comfortably on the head. If an accident with serious injuries occurs, TOCSEN, a system of fall sensor and emergency call app, will automatically call for help. Twice as safe, twice as good.

It is applied to the bottom edges of the helmet using Inmold technology, greatly enhancing safety in the event of a side impact and providing protection against damage in everyday use.
