This is the story of a new season of blackcrows skis, designed and tested in Chamonix.

If you are reading these lines, you know. Because every skier knows, a winter is a life, a life of play without video, of unlimited credits if you go for them, a life of surprises and expectations, and a life of pleasure when a day or even just a ski turn, becomes: magic.

Our collection of ski equipment is like this, with imponderables, with the unavoidable, with things that are found like mountains, serene in their immutability, and new stories that come to hang on them, like clouds, like storms, for joy.

Blackcrows free skiing is articulated around 4 categories: Big Mountain, All-Terrain, Piste and Touring.

This line of conduct guides our skiing and imposes 4 invariable criteria on our ranges: all terrain, all snow, ease, efficiency.

For this new season, new products are arriving in almost all our segments.

In the all mountain category, the update of the captis (and its female counterpart the captis birdie) crowns six years in the range for this accessible ski, easy to steer and able to adopt all styles. A new version that is both more incisive and more playful, more grippy and still as sensual, to enjoy winter in all conditions.

In big mountain, the atris, iconic and unavoidable model of the freeride ski à la blackcrows and its feminine counterpart atris birdie both get a face lift. This is the third version of this very popular, high-performance wide ski, which appeared in the range in 2014 and plays its part in the same tone as the anima,

but thinner and more manageable for all types of snow.

In the piste range, the orb returns with two new small sizes, for this popular, lively and accessible ski, with a long radius, progressive front rocker and early rise. It remains surrounded by the mirus cor and serpo which arrived last season and which have already proved their worth, at least in the open resorts of Europe and especially the Americas.

Among the hikers, the camox freebird and ova freebird are filling up. Our most playful and tolerant "95 on skate" is becoming less stiff underfoot, with a balanced twist and a serene spirit, ready for anything. The ova freebird, the rando counterpart of the vertis, has been updated to make it more dynamic, with a new core that makes it more aggressive without losing popularity.

Our best pairings for skiing the big and beautiful slope, like Greek gods of the summits, surrounded by white, rocks, mocking and benevolent birds, and the silence that befits concentration. In wanting to ski beautiful lines, to jump sometimes big bars, to live a vertical and wild life, we sometimes forget the sense of reality. Or is it enough to invent one to transcend it?

Our collection of wide, often playful and powerful skis is aimed at skiers in search of unique sensations and space. The ski dedicated to the demands of steep slopes. The result of long development in the field, the solis combines a homogeneous flex throughout the ski, a fairly firm tip and tail and a long radius in the tip lift. This combination provides an exclusive pivot, avoids oversteering in steep passages and provides a secure heel when the pack is heavily loaded. After 9 years in the range and for its third update, the ova freebird has been largely revamped. It is a ski with a noticeably sportier flex, very lively, but still very accessible and easy-going. The objective of lightness does not impose any constraints on its downhill behaviour, which must be comfortable and exemplary, and its new core makes it a beautiful beast of power, which gains in aggressiveness without losing in popularity.

The Ferox Freebird was born out of the need to offer a double-rockered, powder-oriented touring ski that remains efficient on the edge. The objective is therefore powder and the sensation of floating on natural snow, but the soul remains alpine to adapt to all conditions encountered in touring. With a twin-tip and a double rocker, it is a ski that offers a very good feeling in powder with its immediate lift and pivot, but which keeps a good base on hard snow thanks to its progressive sidecut.

Our new textile collection, designed and developed in Chamonix, made in Europe.

Whatever the activity, from the most committed couloir touring to the most uninhibited freeride skiing, the most important thing is to be stealthy and technical while remaining comfortable and elegant.

Our three ranges of clothing correspond to our three main ski categories: technical and solid "big mountain", light and robust "mountain touring", and efficient and pleasant "all terrain".

Conceived, designed and tested in the heart of our nest in Chamonix, this collection is entirely made in Europe with our renewed attention to detail and choice of materials.

After having completely reshuffled the cards in our technical textiles line in 2022, here are some new products for 2023 in the three main segments.

In big mountain, the ora xpore outfit (jacket and trousers) is now available in a feminine version, with the same efficiency as the men's version, in an adapted cut, notably a pre-curved jacket with an elegant sobriety, for free skiing in the broadest sense.

In all terrain, the Ferus jacket (available in men's and women's versions) plays with codes and offers a modern anorak style, with a practical zip that runs the length of the torso, hidden by piping on the lower half. It is accompanied by a new ferus fleece, a quilted second layer in a herringbone pattern on the front and back,

a real all-rounder, whether you are skiing tight on the slopes, wide in the powder, or queuing to buy bread.

In mountain touring, the freebird xpore backcountry suit (jacket and trousers) is designed for the hedonistic hiker, with a looser fit for long traverses and a less minimalist accessorisation than the freebird xpore stealth suit.

Whether we're talking about membranes, fabrics or ingredients, these are the characteristics that define some of the performance of our technical garments, the key being the creative art of technical purpose, juggling and jigsawing to assemble and create happy and effective combinations for all the demands of skiing, with durability.

DWR (Durable Water Repellent)

DWR (Durable Water Repellent) is a finish that is applied to waterproof and water resistant fabrics. It lowers the surface tension of the face-fabric allowing water and snow that land on the face to roll off and not penetrate the fabric so easily, this is the first defence to stay dry

elastane

Highly stretchable yarn that can elongate 300x its original size but because it is curly once the tension is released it compacts to its original size: over and over again. Adding stretch and stability into fabrics

merino wool

Merino wool is a natural fiber from Merino sheep. It’s thinner and softer than regular wool—making it easy to wear next to skin. Benefits of wearing wool are: thermal regulation, non itchy and great moisture management.

pertex quantum air

Pertex® Quantum Air is engineered with increased air permeability to provide a balance between wind resistance and breathability. The more openly woven structure of Quantum Air fabrics allows airflow through the fabric, which helps to regulate your body heat and keep you comfortable for longer. This balance of air permeability and wind resistance means Pertex® Quantum Air fabrics are perfectly suited for intense mountain pursuits.

PFC free DWR

Durable water repellent (DWR) treatment which is PFC-free. Traditional C6 DWR treatments have PFCs (Perforated Fluorocarbons), these are very volatile particles that are hormone disruptive and bioaccumulating. Therefore our DWR treatment has been updated to a more environmentally and human friendly alternative which does not contain PFCs. A PFC-free DWR has a few different charectaristics compared to PFC-DWR; it is only water repellent and

to keep the best performance of the DWR it needs to be reactivated more often, which is done by heat - iron on 1-dot or steamer. The DWR treatment lasts about 20 washes then it needs to be reapplied.

Polartec Alpha Direct

Polartec® Alpha® Direct is an evolution of original Alpha® technology that eliminates the need for a backing fabric. By refining the shape and size of the lofted fibers, Alpha® Direct can be in direct contact with skin or other fabric layers. This new design ability increases breathable performance and further reduces overall garment weight.

Polartec Pro Sherpa knit

Polartec® Thermal Pro® is a fabric platform that embodies the versatile style applications of synthetic fleece. A diverse variety of knitting techniques create unique surface structures without sacrificing performance. The adapted look and feel still delivers the warmth and comfort of classic fleece.

Polyamide is a light and durable fibre which has a high tensile strengh which makes it ideal for light and durable outerwear. It has natural wicking properties. Polyamide is make from petroleum.

polyamide cordura

Cordura® is a type of polyamide characterized by its strength. While being very robust, this fibre remains airy and light. It is used in a multitude of professional bags, both for work and for leisure. With an abrasion resistance 3 times higher than that of classic polyamide and 20 times higher than that of cotton, Cordura® bags are among the most robust.

recycled polyamide

Recycled Polyamide is a light and durable fibre which has a high tensile strengh which makes it ideal for light and durable outerwear. It has natural wicking properties.

Recycled Polyamide comes from nets and factory waste reducing the emissions of greenhouse gases.

polyester

Polyester is a petroleum based fibre used in many technical fabrics for its strong, durable and naturally moisture wicking properties. It is also quick drying.

recycled polyester

Recycled polyester is a strong and naturally moisture wicking fibre which is quick drying. It is made from produced plastic waste such as bottles and factory waste. Using recycled polyester lessens the need to depend on petroleum as a source of raw material. Reducing waste and greenhouse gas emissions.

primaloft black eco

Primaloft® Black Insulation Eco was originally developed to solve the common shortcomings of standard continuous filament insulations: packability and softness. This insulation brings all the characteristics expected - full warmth values, wet performance, efficient packing and a soft feel. PrimaLoft have combined this 60% recycled fiber technology with a proprietary water repellent treatment for immediate warmth without the bulk that keeps you comfortable in wet weather. Highly compressible, with a soft, down-like feel.

xpore membrane

At the heart of this technology is a layer of unique ultra-thin membrane with 10 billion nanopores on every square inch. Which are no ordinary nanopores, they’re 20,000 times smaller than water droplets, so they perfectly block rain and wind, but are large enough for perspiration vapour and air to pass through. These nanopores truly breathe to keep you dry and comfortable, enhancing endurance when you’re on the move. Blackcrows is first of all the story of a friendship, between two freeride skiers from Chamonix : Camille Jaccoux and Bruno Compagnet. Two well-known figures in the world of free skiing, lovers of mountains and adventure. This passion is reflected in the desire to find skis adapted to their practice in the Mont-Blanc range. Dissatisfied with the skis offered on the market and thanks to their meeting with the industrialist Christophe Villemin, they decided to release their own model. From this idea, and with the creative input of the designer Yorgo Tloupas, was born blackcrows, and a ski, the corvus, created in 2006.

Blackcrows propagates a sensory exploration of the joy of life. The new version of the 37-litre dorsa takes the urban inspiration and the aesthetic from the dorsa 27 and adds some volume, allowing you to get deep into the mountains for longer, with the bonus of a removable mesh holder for a helmet. All in black, swathed in Cordura fibre and equipped with an embroidered blackcrows crest, the dorsa sits like a blackbird perched on your back. Designed to accompany skiers anywhere from resort skiing to big alpine touring adventures. Developed in collaboration with Bruno Compagnet, the dorsa 27 meets the demands of ski mountaineers: robust, ergonomic, light. All you need and nothing you don’t.

Its flanks, generously fleshed out with protective foam, protect the most precious skis in your collection, whether you are taking your favourite set up in the hold to Japan, onto a ferry in Alaska or in the train to the Queyras. Available in two versions according to the length of your skis and further adjustable through its rolltop system. It can roll up on itself once you arrive to be easily stashed, even in the most cramped accommodation.
