WHAT ARE YOU GETTING INTO? The d.school is working with the University to re-imagine the experience of learning and living on-campus. This class is the beginning. It is also part of a larger d.school and University-wide project that will last through winter 2014*.

Tu & Thu 10-12p 3 units C/NC

This class is a learning experience.

It is driven by some core questions.

During the next 10 weeks, you’ll develop and practice your own design approach, hone your ability to communicate concepts that are new to the world, and learn how to identify opportunities & test their potential.

We are sitting at a special moment in history. Rapid shifts in society combined with exponentially accelerating advancements in technology have called into question the current (and centuries old) model of higher education.

@Stanford is an opportunity to step back and examine your academic experience, uncover big opportunities, and reframe what it means to learn and live on-campus, both for Stanford and the world at large. This course offers you a chance to leave a lasting impact on Stanford and its future students.

DESIGN PROJECTS The class is structured around 2 projects.

DESIGN PROJECT 1

DESIGN PROJECT 1 WHAT YOU’LL DO Immerse yourself in unexpected aspects of Stanford education & life.

2 weeks. DUE: Thursday, Apr 18**

Use a set of mapping techniques to home in on opportunities.

A foundational investigation into what it means to learn and live at Stanford.

Create a visual or video vision of the future.

DESIGN PROJECT 2

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN

5 weeks, DUE: Tuesday, June 4** Builds on project 1 and culminates with a series of experiments designed to re-imagine world-class, immersive learning experiences in the next decade. ** Many mini-assignments & check-ins will happen throughout the quarter, but this is the deadline for project deliverables.

Immerse yourself in "analogous situations" to reveal new approaches to living and learning on campus.
