Hitting new heights: Mandy Gonzales and Javier Muñoz

IF LIN MANUEL MIRANDA casts you in lead roles in two of his blockbuster Broadway hits, you must be good. Mandy Gonzales and Javier Muñoz both fit the bill. These multi-talented performers will appear together in the Center’s new Headliners Series next month for one night only.

Gonzales has starred as Angelica Schuyler in Hamilton, Miranda’s mega-hit musical. Before that, she originated the role of Nina Rosario in another Miranda hit, In the Heights, and received rave reviews in the Tony-winning show. She was also Elphaba in Wicked on Broadway, and recently released her first album. Reviewing Gonzales during an engagement at the renowned Café Carlyle, theatermania.com raves, “This is one of those… cabaret performances in which you just sit back and say, ‘Wow.’”

Muñoz started his acting career in high school. He had an agent before he graduated, which led to his enrolling in NYU’s Tisch School for the Arts. He taught theater in NYC, worked with a non-profit organization that promoted literacy in NYC schools and did regional acting gigs before he auditioned for In the Heights Miranda chose him as his own understudy for the title role, and when Miranda left the production, Muñoz was handed the lead. He repeated this success in Hamilton, alternating performances with Miranda as Alexander Hamilton and eventually assuming the role full time.

Both artists are excited to share showstopping songs, new music and more with Center audiences!
