can think of few things in life more enjoyable than cruising along the iconic Pacific Coast Highway with the car windows down, the salty air hitting my face, and my favorite Spotify playlist blasting away. It’s the quintessential L.A. pastime on a summer weekend and a good reminder of why I live here. Admittedly, I don’t make it out to the beach as much as I would like, but as soon as the weather gets warmer, Malibu starts calling. While the ultra-hip surfer town is known for its dazzling beaches and beautiful people, there is so much more to explore in the ‘Bu. Check out our neighborhood guide on page 12 where we share all you need to know about

having the perfect day in Malibu. Of course, summer also means dining alfresco and sipping cocktails atop the countless rooftop bars across the city. On page 16, we’ve rounded up a few of our favorites that are worth visiting. If you’re looking for a fun event to attend there are a few new exhibits in town and an outdoor music series that kicked off for the season (page 10). There is no shortage of things to do in Los Angeles, especially during the summer, so get outside and revel in the gorgeous weather—the real reason you came here, right? The eponymously named three-story restaurant and lounge called Melrose Place is where all the cool kids flock. The airy indoor and outdoor space neighbors ultra-hip boutiques and retail stores such as Bottega Veneta and Zimmerman. As you head upstairs, don’t miss the gallery wall featuring retro photographs and framed art that pay homage to Los Angeles living. On the second floor you’ll find the café and two separate dining rooms with plenty of banquettes for large groups. If you fancy a pre-dinner cocktail, the rooftop lounge boasts stunning views of the Hollywood Hills. Venice Vibes Popular all-day Venice eatery The Rose Venice has been luring Westside hipsters and sunkissed surfers since it opened. The expansive dining room features high ceilings with exposed wooden beams and hanging greenery that play up the boho-chic vibe. There is plenty of outdoor patio space too, but on weekends you’ll be hard pressed to find a seat. For breakfast, you’ll be tempted by the fresh house-made pastries such as matcha croissants and berry doughnuts, but opt for the protein-packed breakfast burrito instead. The farm-to-table menu is a crowd-pleaser offering healthy, delicious options for everyone, such as salads, burgers, grain bowls, and tacos. Catch Me If You Can The highly anticipated Catch Steak is now open on the bustling corner of La Cienega Boulevard and Melrose Place, just a few blocks away from the original Catch Los Angeles. The 13,000-square-foot outpost is a fresh take on a classic steakhouse featuring tableside

presentations and the lively scene expected at Catch restaurants. The menu focuses on smaller cut prime steaks and is among the few restaurants in the country to hold an official Kobe license from Japan. Try the Flight of Three Beef Sommelier experi-

What do you love about living in L.A.?

Your go-to watering hole?

Silver Lake is home for me. It’s a trendy but also walkable neighborhood, which is rare for L.A. Within a few blocks are cute coffee shops, brunch spots, a farmers’ market, a few high-end boutiques, record shops, juice places, and spas. In the same way, Pendry West Hollywood is my home away from home and has the best of L.A. living all in one

Favorite restaurant in L.A.? Inn of The Seventh Ray. It’s deep in Topanga Canyon, so it truly feels like you are stepping into another world. It’s located next to a creek, so you can hear crickets and bullfrogs, and it feels like dining in a forest.

Muddy Paw café in Silver Lake. It’s a cool coffee shop I discovered. Highly recommend their empanadas and giant Rice Krispies treats. Living in L.A., we’re spoiled with sunshine pretty much year-round, and it has a good patio to sit and read at. Muddy Paw also supports rescue animals.

Your favorite place to watch live music in L.A.? I may be a little biased, but

The Sun Rose has easily become my favorite spot. I curate the artists schedule and programming and love doing it. It’s also the first music venue to open on Sunset Boulevard in nearly 20 years. It holds only around 100 to 150 people, so it’s very intimate and feels like you’re sitting in the artist’s living room. There’s also a beautiful balcony, so you can step away and see a sparkling view of Los Angeles.

Where did the name Sun Rose come from? It’s a play on words and the fact that we are located on Sunset Boulevard. Sunrise, sunset. We like to say: “The Sun Rose on Sunset.”

Is there a performer you’d like to book that’s on your dream list? We are just getting started, but I already have a few on my wish list like Janelle Monae, Andra Day, Bon Iver, Tyler the Creator,

Roger Waters, Neil Young, Beck, Anderson Paak, and the Free Nationals. There are also some smaller artists I feel will become stars like Jac Ross and Lady Blackbird. I’d love to have Questlove do a residency with us.

What are some upcoming shows at Sun Rose? We are about to announce some shows with Jeff Goldblum & The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra. The Bowie’s Piano Man residency with Mike Garson will continue through the next few months with special guests we can’t announce yet. We also are hosting some of the first U.S. shows for the awardwinning Polish composer and pianist Hania Rani. Bring a picnic lunch to spend an afternoon soaking up the rays and admiring the natural beauty—as pelicans, gulls, sandpipers, and cormorants abound. Santa Monica THE COASTAL CITY THAT NEIGHBORS MALIBU, VENICE, PACIFIC PALISADES, AND BRENTWOOD In the 1800s, orator Tom Fitch called Santa Monica “the Zenith City by the Sunset Sea.” The 21st-century version of Santa Monica fulfills its early promise with a bustling downtown and beach that attract millions of visitors each year. Pacific Coast Highway connects SaMo with elite coastal draws Malibu and Pacific Palisades. Venice and its main drag Abbot Kinney Boulevard attracts an eclectic crowd; upscale Brentwood is home to the Getty Center and numerous A-listers.

SANTA MONICA Third Street Promenade, three pedestrian-only

blocks on 3rd Street between Broadway and Wilshire Boulevard, teems with visitors browsing dozens of shops, including H&M and Anthropologie, and gawking at the myriad street artists. The Promenade is lined with all manner of eateries, as do the surrounding streets, with versatile dining experiences such as cozy pub Ye Olde King’s Head as well as Michelin-starred siblings Rustic Canyon for small plates and Cassia for Asian fusion. Anchoring the Promenade at Broadway is Santa Monica Place, an
