How to Hang Like a Local

Mayor Patrick McNulty

If you’ve come to the Island for a day or a week, it’s not hard to consider yourself a local. Being local is a state of mind, and the Island is a welcoming community. Kick off your shoes, put your toes in the sand, and start hangin’ like a local.

Take your tie OFF before we chop it off. If you’re lucky enough to be here for a business meeting, ties are (practically) outlawed. Get on or under the water. Lounge in the surf, sail the bay, fish the bay or on the open water, jet skiing, scuba diving, or snorkeling. There is so much to see, explore and appreciate. Passionate about our Sea Turtles - we are one of the only beaches in the world where the Ridley Kemp nests. When there’s a hatching, you’ll want to be there.

Understand the importance of sunscreen, especially when it’s cloudy. We love our surf and sand, and keeping it clean is everyone’s job.

Respect for the sandcastle. We consider this an art form and you can admire the amazing craftsmanship all over the Island or take a class to learn how you can build your dream castle. Flip flops are worn for both work and play, day and night.
