On Jan. 29, the City of Pharr, PSJA ISD, and UTRGV celebrated the historic grand opening and ribbon cutting of the new state-of-the-art Pharr Natatorium located at 3001 N. Cage Blvd.

“This is a monumental partnership between the City of Pharr, PSJA ISD, and UTRGV, which will expand opportunities for students and community members to have access to a stateof-the-art aquatics training and competition facility, promoting and supporting a healthy and active lifestyle,” said Pharr mayor, Dr. Ambrosio Hernandez. “I congratulate all project partners for coming together with innovative ideas to improve the health and well-being of our community,” he continued.

The 72,796 sq. ft. facility is the first of its kind in the Rio Grande Valley. It is equipped with an Olympic-size swimming pool, diving boards, more than 1,300 seats for spectators, stateof-the-art technology, and amenities such as changing facilities with showers for athletes and office space for coaches and facility staff. “This facility will help us continue to provide high-level extracurricular activities at PSJA ISD that include health and wellness for our students and overall community,” said PSJA ISD Superintendent Dr. Jorge L. Arredondo. “We are excited about the future and the opportunities this kind of facility will provide for the entire Rio Grande Valley,” said Dr. Guy Bailey, UTRGV President. “As always, we are extremely grateful to the City of Pharr for their continued support of UTRGV.”

A project years in the making has finally come to fruition through visionary, innovative, and collaborative partnerships. “The City of Pharr is proud to continue our legacy of educational partnerships within our community, and we are especially proud to partner with UTRGV and PSJA ISD on this Natatorium, an innovative and educational facility that will serve our community for future generations,” said Mayor Hernandez.
