Below, he answers common questions about orthopedic surgeons and the procedures they offer. Q. What is the focus of orthopedic surgeons?

A. Orthopedic surgeons treat diseases and disorders of the musculoskeletal system (muscles, bones, and joints). We use various operative and non-operative treatments to improve or resolve acute or chronic musculoskeletal ailments to heal our patients, improve their quality of life, or both.

My specialties include all arthroscopic shoulder, knee, and sports surgery, including shoulder rotator cuff, labral, biceps surgery, and knee ACL and meniscus surgery. I also specialize in MACI procedures, which are advanced procedures that involve implanting the patient’s own cells to grow new articular knee cartilage.

Q. How will I know if I need orthopedic surgery?

A. After a new injury, or overtime, when you find you can no longer do physical activity that you enjoy, it is time to seek an evaluation. If you are experiencing pain, swelling, motion limitations, numbness, or other symptoms, you should consult with your doctor. They can explain the pros and cons of different treatment options and help determine if orthopedic surgery is right for you.

Q. What types of procedures do orthopedic surgeons perform?

A. Common orthopedic diseases we manage conservatively or with surgery are injuries to any joints, such as shoulders and knees. We can also treat tendon and ligament injuries to the elbow and ankles. This is a small sample of the numerous conditions treated by orthopedic surgeons.

Q. What can I expect before, during, and after the surgery? Is there a class I can attend prior to my surgery that will give me guidance?

A. The entire process from when we first meet to when you vvelect surgery, through surgery scheduling, pre-op evaluation, your surgery and post-op recovery, and longterm follow-up are completely tailored to each individual patient.

As your provider, my job is to educate you. I will help you make appropriate decisions about your care and explain why, how, and what we’re doing. I provide you with all the tools needed to stay informed, including written instructions literature on the disease and treatment.
