Since 1988, Habitat for Humanity of the Rio Grande Valley has been dedicated to the ideal that all people deserve to own a home that is both comfortable and affordable. Working in partnership with God, Habitat changes lives by enabling people who live in substandard housing to become responsible homeowners. Habitat is accountable for constructing more than 100 houses throughout the Valley and offers a “hand up,” not a “hand out,” to less fortunate families from our four-county region. Family partners must be hard-working, low-income residents that may not be able to qualify for a traditional mortgage. As part of their commitment, future Habitat for Humanity homeowners commit to completing 300 hours of sweat equity towards the construction of their own homes.

We are proud of our RGV Habitat families' dedicated efforts and the support of our community partners, generous donors, and helpful volunteers. At Habitat for Humanity of the Rio Grande Valley, we offer several opportunities to build or repair homes with and for U.S. Veterans, families, and senior citizens throughout the year.

Additionally, we have volunteer work opportunities available year-round at our local Habitat ReStores in McAllen and Harlingen, Texas. Habitat ReStores are home improvement stores that accept small and large donations of new or gently used furniture, appliances, housewares, building materials, and more. You can always donate goods in person or request a free pickup of large items. Priority pick-up options are also an option via our website. Proceeds from the sales of these donated items help fund Habitat’s mission in our local RGV community.

By volunteering with or donating to Rio Grande Valley Habitat for Humanity, you can give back to our local community and help us continue to build a world where everyone has a decent place to live.
