F ROM T HE BO T T OM OF M Y CH A MPA GNE F L U T E It’s been a whirlwind learning experience to say the least, and at times perhaps even a battle against the incessant fear of failure that inevitably comes with “start-up life.” I’m still not certain how “ex-corporate rat racer turned self-proclaimed dream chaser” is going to turn out, but I can say with much conviction that it is a leap I’m positively glad I took! I just wanted to say from the bottom of my heart, (or should I say in keeping with the Socialschampagne flute?) thank you to each and everyone one of you who have supported me along the way, to those of you who have just found your way here, and to all of y’all for allowing me to take you along on my crazy little journey! It has been more than I can ever ask for! Do stay for the Social, we’re just getting started!

Off to the facility overseas. I had butterflies as I boarded my first flight!

Kicking off the trip in true Society Social style, “cheers!”

And then the food came with directions :(

The night before I had a meltdown as would any fashion loving girl- two weeks of wardrobe for two insanely contrary climates rolled into one mini carry-on? Ladies, it can be done! But it was more than okay, it was delicious. 8 / SOCIETY SOCIAL MANIFESTO MAGAZINE

Excited to finally jump in after months of exchanging emails. Editing down candy-colored swatches. We’re water based and eco-friendly!

Philippe, the talented engineer, moments before he broke out into dance. He likes to live sparkly!

It’s better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring, right? Playing around with the first round of hostess gown silk samples sourced from Seoul by my brother. Thanks LT!

Proudly using sustainable materials! Rattan peel dipped in water to be softened before they are wrapped around the rattan poles.

And as usual, I squeezed in some fun. Yes, that is my karaoke score. Don’t ask me to do it again.

I watched the making of the dining chair!

So humbled by the hard work of the people behind the furniture

None of this could have happened without the incredible team

We had so much fun working together!

I wanted to make sure the light assembly on some of the pieces could be handled by even the most incompetent in following directions‌ The samples were born!! 10 / SOCIETY SOCIAL MANIFESTO MAGAZINE

And two months later, I met my baby bar carts and my heart almost burst with joy! I truly hope you love!

BRIGH T- E Y E S A ND ROSIE C HEEK S Make-up artist: Jessica Lyness, Photographer: Jamie Robinson, Model: Jin Braxton At Society Social we fiercely believe that being the best version of yourself is the only version to be which is why we were so inspired by Bobbi Brown’s Pretty Powerful campaign. The campaign celebrates real women who don a bright eye and rosie cheek even without the aid of Brown’s must-have makeup line. Although we agree with Bobbi in that beauty and confidence come from within, like her, we will never turn down a day of playing with makeup and mimosas! Don’t be late for the Social! Our make-up artist layered on eyeshadow, blush, and lipstick in slightly darker, more dramatic shades right over our model’s daytime look for a quick and easy work to play transition. As I noodled around with different ideas, I knew I wanted a web-based company because I was very interested in learning about e-commerce, and I wanted the brand to be associated with superior customer experience because there has been such an awful trend away from focusing on great service. I have to have my morning fix of NPR. Because I lived in Boston for 10 years, I like to listen to the local station on my iPad (WBUR) in the morning with my coffee.

NEW YORK INSIDER We’re guilty of entertaining a torrid love affair with all things NY. Since Manhattan is your playground and being a tourist is no fun, we want to know your fave spots for… SHOPPING I’m not a huge shopper but when I do feel like splurging, I tend to love the no name boutiques in Soho to find unique accessories. PARKS I’m a huge fan of running along the bridle path in Central Park because it feels a bit more sane. My other go-to is running north in Riverside Park towards the GWB. Just north of 104th street the path starts to feel much more quiet along the water – it feels very tranquil. RESTAURANTS My husband and I love this place in the West Village called ‘Good’, it has the most outrageous mac ‘n’ cheese. MUSEUMS I have to say, I’m not a museum person, I really prefer to be outside when I have free time. However, I do love the Museum of Natural History. HAPPY HOUR I live on the UWS so we love to have Friday night beers at the Boat Basin on the water. It feels so summery there. If I’m coming from work or meeting with a new contact, we love to go to the Crosby Street Hotel for a glass of wine. They have a wonderfully eclectic look in the restaurant and sitting room -- I would love to see their guest rooms! NIGHTLIFE Being a recent new mom, I don’t stay out that late any longer so I don’t have a favorite spot, but you can’t go wrong in the meat packing.

IF YOU COULD CHOOSE ANY INTERIOR DESIGNER TO DECORATE YOUR HOME WHO WOULD IT BE? I just discovered an amazing young designer from San Francisco, Beth Martin of Elizabeth Martin Interiors. She has a fresh and classic look and knows how to blend affordable pieces with unique finds.

THE DRAMA OF THE DRAPER A DARING THROWBACK

On a mid-summer’s day in one of Philadelphia’s most gorgeous and architecturally distinguished neighborhoods, we found ourselves in a stately, early 20th century mansion that made our jaws drop and our heads giving an admiring nod to the past. Highly inspired by the cocktail culture of the 1960’s, aptly depicted on the popular television series Mad Men; we couldn’t help but to recognize the infamous Don. Indulgent and daring is the name of his game and like our devilishly upholstered bar cart, or accent table if you please, his wily ways are not for the faint of heart.

THE COCKTAIL CART CURATOR She’s a stylin’ shopaholic with a keen eye for pretty pieces high and low. Meet our Cocktail Cart Curator, Jeanne Chan of Shop Sweet Things with Jeanne, who shows us how her shopping cart can take a bar cart to beautiful! I love mixing high end pieces with low end pieces. Like the Georg Jensen Cocktail set, I love that it’s sleek yet very sophisticated. It’s a splurge but it will easily ‘wow’ your guests. On the other end, the stemless flute/martini glassware from CB2 is a steal. It serves as a champagne or martini flute and drinking glasses or tumblers. It’s like two products in one, and it saves space on the cocktail cart! As for other bar accessories, I like to keep things fun by adding lots of pretty colors and whimsical designs. I adore the paper napkins from Citta Design because it reminds me of a beautiful piece of art, and it’s a great way to add flair. I also picked out some of my favorite spirits, including a Hibiski Japanese blend Whisky to impress the gents. To set the mood, a mini candle from Diptyque will always do the trick!

HOST A BOOZY BEGUILEMENT

STRAIGHT FROM THE GLITTER GIRLS THEMSELVES! 1- ALWAYS HAVE BUBBLY ON HAND! Whether it be an impromptu celebration or a planned fete for dozens; being stocked up with champagne is a necessity for Glitter Girls! Some of our favorites include. Mumm Napa Brut Rose, La Marca Proseco, Korbel Blanc de Noir and Vignette Wine Country Soda (non-alcoholic). 2- UTILIZE FRESH FLOWERS & SIMPLE GLASS JARS TO CREATE A FESTIVE ENVIRONMENT. Stop by the farmers market, your garden or the local grocery store for fresh buds - we love the simplicity of bright flowers in glass jars we've recycled or found around the house. 3- CREATE A PERSONALIZED MENU. Take 5 minutes and print your menu on fun or simple paper for a personal touch at any gathering and set one at each place setting. 4- OPT FOR LINENS. Not only only are you being eco-conscious when using fabric linens, but you're creating a luxurious touch for your guests. Simple solid color napkins can be jazzed up with fun trim & a hot glue gun, or have fun with a bold pattern- one of our favorites is Hammocks & High Tea. http://shop.hammocksandhightea.com/category/napkins 5- SNACKS A PLENTY! Offer your guests appetizers upon arrival, from brunch to dinner having snacks for mingling and munching is key to a successful party. Stay simple with cheese & crackers, fruit, veggies, nuts, gourmet popcorn and dark chocolate.

A SUMMER

SOIREE FOOD FEATURE BY ADRIENNE YANCEY PHOTOGRAPHY BY ADRIENNE YANCEY & MATT HOBBS

“EATING WELL GIVES A SPECTACULAR JOY TO LIFE AND CONTRIBUTES IMMENSELY TO GOODWILL AND HAPPY COMPANIONSHIP. IT IS OF GREAT IMPORTANCE TO THE MORALE.” - ELSA SCHIAPERELL

A SUMMER SOIREE

A SUMMER SOIREE Friends were invited over on a hot, summer night and were promised pizzas with an abundance of toppings and cold drinks. A farmers’ market trip ensued Saturday morning. Zucchini, summer squash, heirloom tomatoes, garlic, onions, (goat) feta and basil were purchased. Instead of making my own pizza dough, I stopped at a local pizza joint and bought some of their dough. I prefer to do this instead of buying store-bought. Of course, you could always make your own, but I decided to save time, so I could make dessert. Onions were carmelized. A batch of tomato sauce and walnut pesto were made. Zucchini and mushrooms were thinly sliced. Mozzarella was grated. Brussel sprouts were cooked. Toppings were placed in bowls. Friends started pouring in. Pizzas were assembled. Cold beer was served.

ROASTED TOMATO SAUCE 4 large tomatoes, quartered 1 large onion, quartered 10 garlic cloves 1/4 c olive oil 1 tbsp sea salt 1/2 tbsp oregano cracked pepper to taste Preheat oven to 350. Put ingredients in a large bowl. Drizzle olive oil over, and sprinkle with sea salt, oregano and black pepper. Roast for 45 minutes. Remove from heat and blend all ingredients well. Make sure to pour in leftover juice from the pan.

My favorite walnut oil! Excellent in pesto, bean salads and vinaigrettes.

WALNUT PESTO 1/4 c walnuts, chopped 1 big bunch of basil juice of 2 lemons 1/4 c walnut oil 2 garlic cloves, minced 4 tbsp parmesan (optional) sea salt cracked peper Blend walnuts, basil, lemon juice, garlic, parmesan, salt, and pepper. Then add oil and pulse a few more times. If too thick, thin with more oil.

BLUEBERRY-CHERRY GALETTE INGREDIENTS 1 c organic all-purpose flour* 6 tbsp organic butter 1 tbsp natural sugar 1 tbsp sea salt 1/2 c ice water 1 c blueberries 1/2 c cherries, pitted 2 tbsp coconut oil, melted 1/4 c honey 1 tsp cinnamon 1 tsp nutmeg 1 tbsp lemon juice, freshly squeezed

Make the dough first. Pour flour into large bowl. Add the butter tablespoon by tablespoon—mixing with your fingers—until it resembles a coarse mixture. Add the sugar and sea salt. Then add the water little-by-little as you work it into the dough. Roll the dough into a ball, cover with clear wrap, and refrigerate for about an hour. 30 minutes later, preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Mix the berries, coconut oil, honey, cinnamon and lemon together while the dough is in the refrigerator. After an hour has passed, remove the dough from the fridge and put onto a floured work surface. Massage with your hands as it will warm the dough, making it easier to work with. Grab a rolling pin and roll the dough out. It’s really up to you how thick you want the crust to be. I like mine anywhere from 1/8 to 1/4 in. thick. Now place the filling in the middle and spread out. But remember to leave about an inch or so free from the edge. You will then pick up the edges and roll over the filling, forming a rustic, open tart. Stick in the oven for about thirty minutes. Check on it at 15 minutes. You want the crust to brown lightly. Remove from heat and let cool before serving. Excellent served with homemade ice cream. Makes about an 8 inch galette that serves about six people. *You could replace half a cup of all purpose flour with spelt or whole wheat flour, if you’d like.

You’ll be running back to your bar cart before you can say “Cheers!” INTRODUCING… “THE SOCIETY SPARKLER”

A WHITE PEACH & CARDAMOM CHAMPAGNE COCKTAIL by Fashionably Bombed Makes 2 ½ large white peach (roughly chopped) 1 tablespoon lemon juice 1½ tablespoons sugar 1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom Champagne Edible gold glitter stars

In a food processor add peach, lemon juice, sugar and cardamom. Blend until smooth. Rim each glass with lemon wedge and then dip into a plate of glitter stars. Next carefully add 2 tablespoons of mixture to each glass and top with champagne. Pour champagne in slowly as not to disturb the beautiful rim! Cheers!”

Your taste buds will sparkle!
