When you add an
infusion of joy, happiness and kindness to a work environment, the environment itself changes. Customers’ loyalty increases by adding a piece of joy to their day. Other employees feel the happiness and become more happy themselves. (This is the epitome of Chris Bryan, a new employee at the Bean & Bagel). Chris got right to work on making the Bean & Bagel her home and makes her customers feel the same. Chris is an exceptional person and employee and we are proud she won Sodexo’s Exceptional Experience winner for the month of November. Come congratulate her and experiencer her enthusiasm for life.

Exceptional
culinary skill, attitude, and above all trust is why Mike Hall was chosen for the Exceptional Experience winner for Keene State Dining. As Culinary Chef, he has not only carried the standard in the catering world, but he raises the standard that has already been set very high. He embodies all the qualities that make a great culinary leader and mentor for the team. He understands the importance of details, along with the perfection required in all aspects of the operation, no matter the occasion. Mike demonstrates the poise and attitude that is infectious throughout all the departments and enjoys growing the staff around him. The customers always come first, second and third in everything Mike does. Through countless recognition with catering events, his respect for the client, the staff, and management has made him integral to our Catering department.
Have you ever left a note for us on our napkin note board? This is one of the best ways
to get get immediate answers and connect with our staff. We frequently get notes about items students want more of, things they appreciate about our work, and honest feedback. We enjoy showing off some of the student artwork they leave with us and we enjoy the connection. Our most celebrated chefs are usually at Valley Vegan but recently, Ted, the Pizza Guy, has been notice, not only through napkin appreciation, but online as well! This encouragment is invaluable in building our staff morale and enhancing interaction with the students.

Encouragement takes shape in many
the Keene State Community, Jeanny Aldrich has been a wave of energy and enthusiasm not only for our Dining community, but also in the local community. She was recently publicized in the Keene State Today, Fall 2016 magazine, highlighting her passion for food, investment into land, and leadership in capitalizing on opportunities around her. Already a Cordon Bleu chef, Jeanny pursued her interest in nutrition enrolling at Keene State College and and returning to their family farm in Chesterfield, New Hampshire where she and her husband have successully been farming for Xyears. She was recently asked to present in Dena Shield’s Nutrition Profession course, expounding on career paths and different opportunities available to student’s in Nutrition. One student who attended her presentation was convinced of her future success in her chosen degree after hearing Jeanny speak. Her continual investment in the lives of those around her set her apart as a leader in our dining team with rippling impact.
different forms and we constantly seek ways to encourage employees. At our monthly employee meeting we welcome new staff and congradulate them in their position. One member who recently joined our team was astounded by his welcome. Dave Hazelton exclaimed proudly, “Man, I loved that meeting!! It’s like going into a room of all your great friends!” Keeping our staff safe is also an important part of encouraging our team. With a creative twist and lots of color, Supervisor Sue Stetson created the Take the Pledge campaign to build awareness about safety. This board is one of the first things everyone sees as they clock in for the day. With some humor and conviction about keeping everyone safe, we are developing our continual commitment in building healthier and safer lives.
People
notice little things, and Justin Forbes was
recently nominated to be a campus Rising Star, a campus staff recognition award. Student, Jon Fagan chose him because of his daily investment into the students. Among some of his nomination comments, he said, “In times of doubt, stress, and unrest I can count on my man Justin to provide me with a delicious omelet reminding me of the great things in life. This guy brings his A game day in and day out, and that’s a quality that cannot be overlooked. I strongly believe Justin should be considered for the Rising Star award because his charismatic persona and genuine interest in the students here lightens everyone’s day and promotes strong relationships between students and the KSC staff.” While Justin is inelegible for the award (beacuase he is not a KSC staff member), he continues to brighten student’s experiences as a longtime member of our Sodexo staff.
Members
of our team develop expertise and skills, mastering new challenges daily. Developing their career sometimes means needing new territory. One of our previous Supervisors at Lloyd’s Marketplace recently wrote to us about his new experiences in Colorado. Working with Sodexo at Steamboat Springs Mountain College, Jesse Judd wrote of his strong appreciation for the training he received under our culinary team. Now juggling more responsibilities and acting as the Retail Supervisor and Marketing Coordinator, he knows that performance drives our business. Jessie recognizes that Keene State Dining sets a high bar and he continues to deliver exceptional experiences.
As
much as we connect with our staff and develop a sense of community with them, we aslso connect with many students and departments across campus. In a recent connection with the Office of Student and Community Relations, we saw a prime opportunity to contribute to their off-campus move-in kits. We supplied over 250 coffee punch cards (with several holes already punched out), a coaster, and information about our GET App and meal plan options. Not only were we able to get valuable information into the students’ hands but we also provided a welcoming incentive to use at one of our dining locations.
