SPECTRUM

Media Team of the 37th Regional Session of EYP Serbia

Dear Participants of the 37th Regional Session of EYP Serbia. Dear readers, By the time you are reading this, the 37th Regional Session of EYP Serbia will have reached its end and you will probably have to return back to your everyday normal life, or to your bed. But before that, we would like to reflect on these past two days which, we hope, have left you with experiences, memories, emotions to look back to when you think of those moments. During the last days, you got to interact with many different personalities, you considered, you discussed, you argued, you reconsidered but above all you made a personal progress, you evolved. You can see your progress very clearly. You first came to join groups of random people and yet ended up co-operating with your peers for a common goal, reaching out of your comfort zone and making new friends. In light of this, we welcome you to read this issue put together by our Media Team, a team composed by passionate and extraordinary people, as a reminder that each person leaves their own marks, has their own voice. We wanted to make sure that this voice will remain as vivid as possible so as to inspire you, to motivate you to raise your unique voice, as well. Dwell into the beauty of life. Watch the stars and shine with them. Take care, The editors of the session, Sofia & Svebor

HuMANS OF NIS By Hara Tsoukaneri Hara took a short walk around the city center along with Jovan Krstic and they got to meet some of the wonderful people of Nis. They wanted to hear what they have to say about their country and it has been an interesting ride!

SLADJANA, 54

- Do you like living in Serbia? I absolutely do! - Which is Serbia’s biggest problem in your opinion? I would say it’s the financial crisis. Because of it, not many people have jobs and unemployment is one of the basic factors which make people unhappy. - How do you feel about Serbia joining the EU? I think that some laws which will derive from joining the Union are exactly what Serbia needs for flourishing in the future, but I would say that nothing comes without a bad side.

RADOVAN, 75

- Do you like living in Serbia? I wouldn’t be able to live in any other country in the world but Serbia. This is where I was born and this is where my home is. - Which is Serbia’s biggest problem in your opinion? The people and their mentality. - How do you feel about Serbia joining the EU? It will be a good thing, better than being in a war. My grandfather was born in World War I and if anything can prevent people from experiencing that, it’s a good thing.

MAJA, 44 - Do you like living in Serbia? I love living in Serbia. I like it because it’s my motherland and all my family and my life is here. - Which is Serbia’s biggest problem in your opinion? The biggest problems are the financial situation and the people’s attitude. - How do you feel about Serbia joining the EU? I think that Serbia will probably join at some point but I am uncertain whether it will benefit the country or not.

EMILJA, 19 -Do you like living in Serbia? Yes, I do. The country itself is beautiful and the nature is magnificent, but there are so many practical difficulties. Getting a job, for example, is very tough if you don’t have acquaintances. The client state runs very strong in Serbia. -Which is Serbia’s biggest problem in your opinion? Organization. It basically doesn’t work and the public domain is not functional. Bureaucracy is a basic parameter of the problem. -How do you feel about Serbia joining the EU? We probably will enter the EU. I think it has both benefits and drawbacks.

DRAGAN. 52

- Do you like living in Serbia? I do love it, yes, but generally it is not a good country to live in. - Which is Serbia’s biggest problem in your opinion? Corruption. The politicians are corrupt and that ruins everything. - How do you feel about Serbia joining the EU? I think it would benefit the youth. If we do join the EU, young people would have more potential in their lives, more chances to succeed. If we don’t on the other hand, people should start fleeing the country in a couple of years because no positive change can come otherwise.

JELENA, 26 - Do you like living in Serbia? I do like it at the moment. I used to be unemployed until quite recently, but finding a job ameliorated my feelings about the country a great deal. - Which is Serbia’s biggest problem in your opinion? As I mentioned before, I would say unemployment, especially among young people. Aside of that, violence is a very urgent problem that needs to be tackled. - How do you feel about Serbia joining the EU? I think we will join sooner or later, but I feel insecure about what this might entail.

A GLIMPSE INTO THE MIND OF GREAT EYPers by Sofija Ristic

Sofija interviewed important people of Nis 2016 and she proudly presents the quote that inspires them the most and their experience as first time delegates. Keep well in mind what they have to say.

“You should not treat somebody else in a way you don’t want to be treated. I kinda like to see the other way around. You have to treat people in the exact way you want to be treated. Therefore, if you want other people to take initiative or engage themselves, then there’s no other option than doing exactly that.”- “My mom” Siebe Geerts, President

“My first time as a delegate was in 2012 in Priština. I was a delegate only once and I hated it because it was all messy and I didn’t understand why I am doing those things and how it is going to benefit me. After I became a chair, I understood the whole process and tried to fix most of the issues that we had while I was chairing and to improve the ways of interaction with delegates and chairs.” Egzon Gashi, Vice- President

“I was a very awkward delegate, also very talkative. I think I didn’t get along with my committee that well, but I was very young when I started so I’ve learned a lot by now. And here I am now, the Vice-President of the session, and I am a completely different person, so I guess I am really thankful for my first experience.” Iman

-“You have to be odd to be number one.“ -“I was delegate for the first time at the 26th Regional Session of EYP Serbia and I was really scared and didn’t know what was going on, but at the end it all turned out pretty well. I applied for the next one, and next one, and next one... And here I am now.“ Milica Starinac, Head Organiser

The Sincere SigniFicance of TeamWORK Cooperative work done by a group of people to reach the common goal. That is the definition of teamwork which you can find in any dictionary you stumble upon. On everyday basis one will discover that, even in ordinary situations and diverse circumstances, teamwork is of essential matter. When talking about the benefits of teamwork, first and foremost you have to talk about its efficiency. You only need basic knowledge in math to know that five people will always do a better job than one. Five brains are always better than one and so are five pairs of hands. Thus, teamwork combines and assures the quality and quantity of the work that is done. Teamwork likewise provides an opportunity for the work to be seen and done by a number of minds and variety of perspectives. However, keeping these benefits in mind, the most important thing about teamwork is still the mutual support which represents its rudiment. When talking about EYP, the role of teambuilding in the organization is principal, however, in EYP it is not the efficiency that is essential but here we colligate our strengths and aspire to the shared goals. Here we get together and work as one in order to produce a unique voice, loud and determined just enough to talk about what is commonly thought to be taboo or simply prohibited. We allow our perceptive minds to contemplate and resolve issues and speak up about it afterwards. Hence, if you think you have a voice that ought to be heard, do not miss the chance that EYP provides you, raise your voice and let us all be the voice that will guide into the future.

EYP ZODIAC What you starsign says about you as a delegate?

They get upset when people don’t agree with them.

They are the most likely to cry when it comes to arguing with other delegates.

Libras can never make up their minds, so they usually have a lot of brainstorming post-its to give.

(Extremely) Loud and stubborn, but very hardworking.

The most stubborn delegates. They might not talk to you if you challenge them.

They are the voice of reason of the committee. They will try to reach a compromise for the sake of forming the resolution.

They are very open-minded but not sensitive to the feeling of other delegates.

These delegates need the support of other delegates in order to be confident.
