There is a bat for every type of swing. DeMarini designed its 2013 fastpitch line to accommodate any type of hitter. That is the beauty of improved technology that helped create stronger bats with a lighter feel. “We are thrilled with this year’s launch. DeMarini’s 2013 lineup is ready to take over the fastpitch game and rule on another level,” said Sara Lawhead, who serves as the head of DeMarini/Wilson Fastpitch Promotions. Each of DeMarini’s fastpitch bats features a new TR3 F.L.O. (Fused Layer Optimized) composite layout, which enables weight to be more evenly distributed from handle to barrel. “This naturally chaotic, random fusing of carbon fibers creates a more compact carbon which enables us to design a stronger and lighter bat than ever before. This stronger design allows us to distribute the weight evenly throughout the bat,” Lawhead said. “A more balanced bat produces faster bat speeds. So you can generate even more power.” CF5 and Insane bats, for example, vary slightly in look and design but create similar results. The CF5 -10 (featuring a white barrel) has evenly distributed weight across the barrel. The CF5 -10 Insane (featuring a red barrel) has more weight distributed in the end of the barrel, giving it a ended load feel. “Our line is developed knowing that there isn’t one bat for every softball player, but there is one brand for every softball player,” Lawhead said. “No matter what kind of swing you have, or what kind of feel you are looking for, you can find it in our 2013 model line. “Just ask the heavy hitters and MVP’s of National Pro Fastpitch like Natasha Watley or Caitlin Lowe what bat they trust in their hands.” That is why so much attention was paid to making the bat fit the swing. Power hitters often prefer the CF5, including the Queen of the Diamond (Hope Edition), which was created to help raise awareness of breast cancer. Proceeds from bat sales are donated to help find a cure for cancer. The Vendetta C6 is popular among young players because its composite barrel combined with a patented Internal Rails Hybrid Handle reduces vibration and takes the sting out of making contact without compromising the ability to take a rise ball deep over the left field fence. The features “work together to give developing players the best of both worlds when it comes to performance and comfort,” Lawhead said. “They gain confidence that they won’t get rung up on an inside or outside pitch and it reduces sting without impacting performance.” Players from the ASA travel circuit to top collegiate programs and National Pro Fastpitch have embraced DeMarini’s 2013 bats and laud them for their feel and performance. “The talk around the diamond this summer as well as with our pros and our top collegiate teams that we test these bats with has been that our new 2013 model line is noticeably better and just keeps elevating their play,” Lawhead said. “All of our players and teams have been ecstatic with the new bats and how we have been able to improve not only the raw power and performance, but also to give the players a much more comfortable and responsive feel. “Our players demand the best, and it’s always great to hear from them that our best just keeps getting better,” she said. “For every type of hitter, for every type of swing, there is a DeMarini bat that has been fine-tuned to elevate the player’s play. Our lineup is deep and there is an option for all hardcore fastpitch players.”

By Dave Utnik The celebration had to begin with a dog pile. That much everyone agreed upon. All 12 members of Tulsa Elite ‘95 made that commitment long before the team ever arrived in Montgomery, Ala. for the ASA 16U National Championships. It even became a slogan of sorts for a squad that nearly called it quits last fall before choosing - wisely it turned out - to restructure itself instead. “The players developed a team saying of ‘Dog pile’ when they came together with all their hands in a circle before, during and after games,” assistant coach Joe Gho said. “The reason for this was because the ultimate goal at the end of nationals is to be in a position of performing a dog pile, which means you won the National Championship.” The dog pile served as incentive for Tulsa Elite following a tumultuous 2011 travel season that was marred by a career-ending injury, player defections and a disappointing 97th place finish at nationals. More importantly, it helped the players bond as the remnants of a storied Oklahoma STARZ program merged with Tulsa Elite to create a championship season and the Softball Today Magazine 16U Team of the Year. “The team came close to disbanding,” Gho said. “But after many discussions, it was finally decided that they would keep the team together.” So they accepted an offer from Tulsa Elite general manager Jeff Filali to join the organization with Gho and Steve Bevan sharing the coaching duties, along with Kelly Beason.
And by Memorial Day, the dog pile was a full-fledged rally cry. “In the world of competitive softball, with all the obstacles a team faces, it can be difficult to mesh together different player personalities and all that comes with it. These players were truly the epitome of a team with their hard work and dedication,” Gho said. “They came together overcoming adversity and a relentless travel schedule to win many well-deserved prestigious championships during the season. “All teams at the beginning of the season have high expectations, but to think what this team has accomplished during this year and to top it off with the ASA 16U National Championship is truly remarkable and a dream come true.” The Tulsa Elite 95 won 78 games during the tournament season with more than half of those coming during a remarkable 46-4 stretch that culminated with a dog pile at the national championships. They placed among the top three in eight competitions, including an 18U event on Memorial Day weekend that served as a sign of things to come. “After winning the ASA KC Memorial Weekend Tournament by going undefeated, things started to come together and fall in place,” Gho said. And all 12 players -- Kaitlin Beason, Mallory Collins, Kaylor Battiest, Taylor McElhaney, Nicole Nease, Emily Bevan, Jessica Boone, Kelsey Goodwin, Kelsey Leach, Mikelynn Mantich, Maddi McGraw, Samantha Smith – contributed to the team’s success as Tulsa Elite ‘95 finished No. 1 in the ASA 16U Power Ranking and tied for No. 1 with
Team Mizuno for the Triple Crown National Ranking. The dog pile was backed by an impressive combination of pitching and power as Tulsa Elite defeated the Germantown (TN) Red Devils 5-2 and 5-1 to clinch the national championship. Beason (.467, 27 HR, 127 RBI) and Collins (.429, 11 HR, 66 RBI) provided most of the power in the heart of the batting order. “They consistently were getting big timely clutch hits and are arguably the best 3-4 hitting combination in the country,” Gho said. Beason is headed to Missouri State University, while Collins is committed to Oklahoma State University. McElhaney, the team’s leadoff batter and star shortstop, has signed with Kansas and Nease, the catcher, has accepted a scholarship to Pittsburg State. Leach, who batted .335 as the starting third baseman, and Mantich, a center fielder who hit .357, provided the type of athleticism and versatility that made the Elite so difficult to defeat. “We wanted to measure our success against ourselves knowing that we could get better and build upon each tournament we competed in,” Gho said. The bats provided a nice foundation, but the dog pile was built equally on the pitching prowess of Beason, Collins and Battiest, who each had an ERA under 1.60. “We constantly reminded our girls that we can control certain things: Our focus, our attitude, our effort, our Intensity,” Gho said “If we took care of those things along with the small things then everything else would fall into place.”

14U Atlanta Viper’s cap dream season with a Premier National Championship.

On one of the saddest days of her life, Katey Lynch sought out the happiest place she could find: A softball field. It was the best way the Atlanta Vipers’ catcher could think of to pay tribute to her father, Steve. Playing helped her heal and, more importantly, remember. So after returning from her dad’s funeral, Lynch sought out the company of her teammates and asked them to dedicate the rest of the season to “Coach Steve.” The Vipers all agreed. “On that day the girls developed a bond and decided that this was going to be a special year dedicated to a special man,” coach Vic Loveless said. The 2012 softball season brought the Vipers together in a way they never expected. And they prospered - for Katey and for coach Steve. They won 74 games, mostly against older competition, and finished the summer by rallying out of the losers’ bracket to capture the Premier Girls Fastpitch 14U National Championship. “Having experienced our lowest of lows, with the loss of Coach Steve, and then experiencing the highest of highs, winning the PGF National Championship, our young ladies are truly champions for life,” coach Loveless said. The Vipers {74-12) played inspiring softball all summer. They competed in showcase tournaments against 16- and 18-year-olds; captured the Scenic City Showcase and then journeyed clear across the country to become national champions and secure their place as
the Softball Today Magazine 14U Team of the Year. “Their never-say-never attitude and determination to be leaders and not followers wouldn’t let them stop before reaching their goal,” coach Loveless said. Once they set their minds to it, the Vipers couldn’t be stopped. Even after dropping a one-run game to the Orange County Batbusters, they responded with a six-game winning streak to capture the Premier National Championship. The Vipers mourned together and they persevered together. That is what truly made them a great team. What mattered way more than their 74 victories was the way they embraced Katey Lynch and transformed a painful experience into something truly unforgettable. Each and every Viper made a difference — pitchers Jordan Watson, Tessa Daniels and Taylor Decelles, infielder Ebonee Echols, infielder Cali Harrod, catcher Hanna Trombley, outfielder Brielle Grubbs, shortstop Madison Couch, third baseman Brianna Vazquez, outfielder Brittany Crawford and outfielder Danielle Castleberry. Every game was a unified effort and that was especially true at nationals, in Irvine, CA, where the Vipers went 9-1 overall. Trombley’s second hit of the game brought home the only run in a 1-0 shutout of the Lil Saints, while DeCelles and Daniels teamed up in the pitcher’s circle to deliver a 52 victory over the American Pastime. Then, Daniels drove in five runs in a 13-3 win over their rival Georgia Elite. The loss to the Batbusters (McNee) didn’t deter the Vipers one bit. They bounced right back with a 3-0 triumph over the Crown Point Bulldogs.
In a game against Batbusters (Espalin), Harrod collected two hits to spark a 4-3 victory and then the Vipers avenged their only loss with a 4-2 win over Batbusters (McNee). After back-to-back wins over the San Jose Sting — Echols was the star of an 18-2 victory with a four-RBI performance and DeCellas struck out 10 in a 5-0 victory — the Vipers finally reached the finals. It was there that they delivered a performance that coach Steve truly would have been proud of as Grubbs singled to start a sixth-inning rally and eventually scored the championship-clinching run on a Crawford sacrifice fly to secure a 3-2 win over the Southern California Athletics. “This is a very special group of young ladies that were very determined, focused, and inspired,” coach Loveless said. “The battles that we faced both on and off the field had us prepared for every circumstance that we would face.”
By Dave Utnik They had history on their side. Maybe a bit of good karma too. The 12U Power Surge didn’t arrive in Moline, IL as the favorite to capture an ASA National Championship. And that was just fine with them. The girls from San Diego knew a little more about themselves - and their softball legacy -- than anyone else and that was enough to transform the underdogs into champions. While so many others overlooked them, Power
Surge went undefeated at ASA nationals by digging into their own past and coming up with a performance of a lifetime that clinched the organization’s second ASA title in four seasons. “The team four years ago was the top team going into that tournament and they went onto win the championship,” Power Surge coach Scott Berndes said. “But this current 12U team was not the favorite and had to work for every victory.” Somehow they managed to play like favorites when it mattered most as Power Surge capped an 83-13 travel season by becoming the 2012 Softball Today Magazine 12U Team of the Year. The team had great success early in the season as they won the Triple Crown tournament in Santee, Ca. and the Southern California State ASA Championships in Chula Vista, Ca. The team went on to play superbly at the Triple Crown Field of Dreams tournament in San Clemente before confidently going on to capture the ASA National title in Moline, Illinois on July 30-Aug 5. The Southern California champions -- pitcher Konner Dahlberg, pitcher/shortstop Kelsey Munoz, first baseman Morgan Farmer, catcher Summer Hargett, catcher Kylee Brown, catcher/second baseman Eva Gonzales, second baseman Alexis Morehouse, third baseman Elise Morris, outfielder Erica Silva, center fielder Hannah McEwen, right fielder Anna Silva and shortstop Hailey Dademnianiuk -were an intriguing mixture of tenacity and spirit. That was especially true on defense, where Gonzales epitomized the team’s summer-long effort by making a
diving catch and then doubling a runner off first base in the ASA National Championship game. Moments like that were sprinkled throughout Power Surge’s final eight-game winning streak against the best teams in the land. Silva ran down deep fly balls in the outfield, Dademnianiuk batted over .400 and offensive MVP Hargett hit a game-winning three-run homer in the finals against the Texas Bombers. But it was a two-out, two-run triple by Morris in the team’s final at-bat of game one that perhaps sparked the championship run. Morris, who coach Berndes referred to as “maybe our most valuable player all around” tied the game with her clutch hit and then capped a three-run rally by scoring on a wild pitch as the Power Surge pulled out a 6-5 victory over the Chattanooga Warriors. Power Surge used another three-run, final-inning rally to beat the Quakes, 6-4, but it was pitching and clutch hitting that propelled them the rest of the way. Dahberg struck out 10 in a two-hit shutout performance against the North Gwinett Blaze and 11 in a 6-1 victory over Georgia Impact, while Munoz threw a complete game to beat Edge Chaos, 4-2. In the finals, against the formidable Texas Bombers, Dahberg and Munoz teamed up again, this time sealing the second ASA National Championship for San Diego Power Surge in four seasons. “It was a great win, we had to work so hard in every inning and every game,” coach Berndes said. “I could not be more proud of this group of girls.”

The 10U Firecrackers from Cerritos, CA. earned a 108 wins and a ASA National Championship.

The winning attitude was forged over smoothies and sunscreen. That’s how it worked for the 10U ASA National champions, anyway. When they weren’t competing for softball trophies, the Firecrackers from Cerritos, CA could almost always be found hanging out near the Pacific ocean or a nearby shopping mall. Friendships paved the way for triumph. And the Firecrackers had 108 wins to prove it. “Bonds, like the ones shared by these girls cannot be easily broken,” manager Roman Gallegos said. “This is why 11 of the 12 girls stayed on this team for the 2013 season. These girls will continue to get bigger, stronger and improve their skills both on and off the field.” In all likelihood, the journey of Softball Today Magazine’s 10U Team of the Year is just beginning. And it’s off to a pretty impressive start. The Firecrackers reached the finals of nine tournaments and won four in a row to finish the travel season, including a dominating performance at the ASA Nationals where they defeated the Gamers 12-0 in mercy-rule fashion to capture the title. “They were not afraid to work harder and longer than everyone else,” Gallegos said. “These girls were not only teammates on the field but sisters off the field.
The coaches (head coach Mark Thornbirg, Richard Riboni and Carlos Villarreal) did an amazing job of keeping these girls busy not only with softball but with trips to the movies, the beach, parties and many other things.” Softball, however, most often occupied their time from October to July. The Firecrackers went 108-12-2 overall and lost just seven times in tournament play behind contributions from all 12 players -- shortstop Hailee Riboni, catcher Katelyn Mangrello, pitcher/first baseman Hannah Kumiyama, second baseman Sam Torre, corner outfielder Aysha Ramirez, center fielder Myah Iokopo, infielder Mel-Mel Thornburg, pitcher/shortstop Julia Jimenez, pitcher/center fielder Jaelyn Operana, third baseman/ catcher Hailey Gallegos, pitcher/first baseman Alyssa Robles, and second baseman Madi Jacobus. “We have a team loaded with 12 Kobe’s and Shaq’s,” coach Gallegos said. “Some kids sat on the bench when they could have started on most other teams. If you watched this team play, it was timely hitting and solid defense from one through nine.” After opening the season as co-champions of the Halloween Bash for Cash, the Firecrackers captured the Triple Crown Pre-Thanksgiving Bash and went on to reach the semifinals of every tournament they played. It was in June, however, that the Firecrackers really warmed up. After winning the ASA California State Championship, they collected first-place trophies at the Father’s Day Classic and the Triple Crown Red, White and
Blue Tournament before heading off to Bloomington, IN for nationals. In winning eight consecutive games, the girls took turns sharing the spotlight. Mangrello threw out two base runners in an early-round win over the Gamers, while Robles and Jimenez teamed up for a shutout against the Texas Bombers. In a 13-1 mercy-rule victory over Mizuno, Operana struck out four in the pitcher’s circle and was 3 for 4 at the plate. And a 9-2 semifinal win over the Thunderbolts featured three hits each from Gallegos and Kumiyama. The championship game served as a true showcase of the Firecrackers’ talent as Operana pitched a four-hit shutout in a 12-0 victory. “We carried five pitchers but did not have an ace,” coach Gallegos said. “We threw Jaelyn in the championship game because she had beat the Gamers all season long, so when we faced the Gamers in the championship, it was only natural to use her.” The potent batting order backed Operana’s pitching effort as Mangrello went 3 for 3 and Riboni 2 for 3 -combining for 5 RBI. Kumiyama drove in three runs. “This was a very resilient group of 10 year olds,” coach Gallegos said. “The coaches and the girls were criticized by most all season long. Any time we’d lose a tournament our names got dragged in the mud. The greatest asset to these girls was resiliency. “They didn’t know or understand the word quit.”

The look is awe-inspiring enough. DeMarini puts a lot of creative energy into graphic design. But the 2013 line of Slow pitch bats continues to be among softball’s most popular because they possess everything a Slow pitch softball player desires in a bat. Quicker break-in times, better performance and lasting durability are all trademarks of a DeMarini bat and there are plenty of options to choose from, including the already well-known Stadium One and Juggernaut models as well as Senior One, Flipper, NTU Juggy, NT3 Juggy, FU Dawg and the Mercy. “The upcoming season looks great for DeMarini slowpitch and we are hard at work laying the foundation for a very successful year,” said National Slowpitch Marketing Manager Jerry Garnett. The Flipper, for example, is specifically designed to attack low compression 52/300 softballs, while the NTU “Juggy” utilizes a stacked barrel construction and the mid-loaded triplewall barrel to provide a strong, lightweight hitting zone with a springboard surface. “The Divergence technology in our new Flipper model is turning a lot of heads at the ballpark as it is truly adding a much needed level of performance and excitement for players that are using the 52/300 ball,” Garnett said. Stadium One bats still rule in USSSA, while the Juggy 3 is making a quick impression in the ASA arena. The Stadium bat has always been built for power at the highest level. The new SONE composite barrel combined with the SC4 Alloy handle provides even more pop. Juggy bats come in two versions - the NTU for USSSA and NT3 for ASA - that features a mid-loaded, stacked barrel construction that will spray line drive to all fields. With the Flipper, DeMarini has introduced a way to punish soft compression balls and it could be a game-changer. Created with a new “Divergence Technology” that extends the sweet spot horizontally around the barrel, the ball flips off the barrel and

out of the park. The beauty of the Fu Dawg (ASA only) is that it joins DeMarini’s stiffest handle with its strongest to create ultimate power. A 4.ONE Composite barrel is topped off with a dish endcap to create maximum stiffness while driving energy back to the sweet spot. A super stiff SC4 handle made with the company’s toughest alloy provides end-loaded punishment for pitch in the strike zone. In the Senior circuit, the ONE SR 1 had dominated for years and 2013 should be no different. Its trademark is a stiff, durable barrel which is endloaded for maximum power and balance. Even old reliable bats, such as the SF5, have garnered new attention with updated designs. The SF5 has prevailed for decades in USSSA, but it’s being re-discovered thanks to new X-10 Alloy that fine-tune the thickness of the Doublewall barrel to stretch the sweetspot even wider than before. The one-piece Rayzr is built with the same principle in mind. All four circuits -- ASA, USSSA, ISA and NSA -- will benefit from Steel and Raw, the newest “weapons of smash destruction.” DeMarini’s new Steel 01 Singlewall barrel now combines optimum strength to combat softer balls in the summer heat. “By fine-tuning the thickness of the barrel walls, we dramatically increase the bats’ durability while giving it the perfect responsiveness,” Garnett said. The women’s ASA and ISA circuits have a new weapon as well. Mercy is specifically designed for slowpitch, balancing to perfection a 13” TR3 F.L.O. composite barrel and handle. “The overall response to the 2013 bats has been great. Players are using our new models and sharing their experience with other players via message boards, social media and grassroots word-of-mouth. The good news is spreading fast,” Garnett said. “Our 2013 slowpitch bat line-up is a show stopper. We now have a high performance bat for everyone. We are hearing from players in parts of the country that we haven’t really serviced in years and the feedback is all good.”

By Dave Utnik Outfielder Johnny McCraw is convinced that he’s never held a better bat in his hands. The 2013 Derby Boy slow pitch model by Combat Sports is just that good. “It’s my favorite bat of all time,” said McCraw, who knows a little something about hitting. A former baseball star who spent some time in the Houston Astros organization, he’s won a pair of ASA Major World Series championships and played for Team USA during a career that has spanned nearly two decades. Two-time All-American and fellow outfielder Rick Baker is partial to Combat’s new Wanted line and catcher Scott Brown can’t seem to make up his mind as the production from both bats has been off the charts. “I will say this, they are both better than anything we have ever had and I loved the Combatant,” said Brown, a former Marine who has also played on the national team. “The new stuff is so good out of the wrapper and the durability really seems to be there.” Therein lies the formula for success that Combat Sports Senior Vice President Don Cooper believes makes this year’s bats among the best in the business. “Many manufacturers talk about having the tightest gaps or overlap. We have none,” Cooper said. “Our bats have one continuous strand of fibers making for the most trampoline effect possible. This is also why we are good to go out of the wrapper.” Each one of Combats’ 2013 bats (Wanted, Derby Boys and Derby Girls for slow pitch or Pure and Morphed Reload for fast pitch) are 100 percent composite with a revolutionary seamless technology that creates a larger sweet spot.

“Seamless technology means all the fibers in the bat run completely from top to bottom,” Cooper said. “Our process allows us not to cut the fibers and we are the only composite manufacturer who can say that.” Wanted bats are a two-piece design, while the Derby models are one-piece but the significance of either model is that it is designed for players of every skill level. “The Wanted has the stiffest handle we have ever built,” Cooper said. “It really is a two-piece bat with a one piece feel. The Wanted line feels like a good tennis racket, while the Derby Line has a completely different feel from any one piece Combat bat of the past. I promise you it will be great.” Some of the nation’s best players agree with that. McCraw is a big fan of the one-piece feel and Baker raves about Wanted’s ASA only model, which was designed with slow pitch’s softer softballs in mind. “The ASA only bats are completely different than any bat we have built before,” Cooper said. “They are geared for the softer ball with maximum performance. But they will perform extremely well with the old balls as well.” And one swing is all it takes. The beautiful thing about Combat Sports bats is that, after two years in development, there is no need to break them in. They are game ready. “The 2013 slow-pitch line has been a work in progress for two years. We got the new standards two years ago and went to work,” Cooper said. “.We were very happy with the Avarice line and thought it was a very good start at the new standards, but we knew we could improve them. “We have been really focused on durability and sweet spot,” he said. “The Wanted line and Derby line is a huge step forward in both of those areas.”

Kissimmee, FL. --- The 2012 USSSA ‘A’ World tournament had 17 teams of which nine were ‘A’ teams five were ‘B’ and three were ‘C’ teams. The top 4 ranked teams were sent to the loser’s bracket. R&M metals/Easton, the 2011 Softball Today’s ‘A’ Team of the Year under veteran manager Rob Humphrey were bridesmaid no more in 2012. This time it was the R&M metals/Easton based out of Waterloo, Iowa with nine new starters and manager Rob Humphrey leadership that secured the 2012 ‘A’ World. Team454/Emerald/Worth. Laservision dispatched Buzinisports.com and TyjaSuncoast Reebok. The Laservision versus Reebok game was one of the more entertaining games ending with Laservison winning 25-24 on a walk-off homerun by tournament MVP Scott Kirby. R&M Metals fell short as DeMarini/Dirty stifled their effort and won 17-15 to move to face Laservision. Laservision put away the young rebels of Reds Astros 29-5. The winner’s bracket final was set with a Saturday night showdown between DeMarini/Dirty and Laservision. DeMarini Dirty and Laservision played a tight game for the first six innings. The stars of the game stepped up on both teams as Brett Helmer, Bryson Baker, Scott Kirby, and Brian Wegman made great contributions. DeMarini Dirty was lead by the play of Major All Tournament selections
Chris Wilson, Andrew Collins, and Adam Rockoff. The defense of Laservision proved to be the difference in a shutdown of Demarini Dirty’s offense in the bottom half of the sixth inning. They followed it with a late offensive burst that took them to an 18-13. DeMarini Dirty would now face Resmondo. Resmondo showed its decade of dominance and pride on this weekend. Lead by CO-MVP Andy Purcell and Defensive MVP Don Dedonatis III, Resmondo beat DeMarini Dirty. Resmondo closed out the win against DeMarini Dirty with a convincing 31-12 victory. Resmondo now faced their annual rivals Laservision for the 2012 Major title. After six innings Resmondo mowed down Laservision’s lead to 27-22. The seventh belonged to Laservision as they held Resmondo Worth to just 3 runs and thus securing the 2012 USSSA Major World Series title with a 27-25 win.
had to score six in the bottom of the 7th just to win our first game against Blitz.” The defending champions Team 454/Worth was run ruled by DeMarini Headbangers 20-3 and Sonny’s/Louisville Slugger were run ruled by TYJASuncoast Reebok 25-10. R&M metals/Easton went on to defeat TYJA 16-3. The Quarter Finals were now set as R&M metals/Easton, Headhunters, Linedrive Sportz, and Taylormade all moved on. R&M metals/Easton defeated a tough Line Drive Sportz team 11-6 and moved on to the Finals. Taylormade/TM Sports/Mizuno defeated Headhunters/Cancooke 30-27 to secure their spot in the winner bracket Finals. R&M metals/Easton and Taylormade battle it out in the early and middle innings. With the game on the line R&M metals/Easton hitter Steve Whaley stepped up to the plate and crushed the game winning Grand slam. The dramatic victory advanced R&M metals/Easton in the Finals. Taylormade led by tournament MVP Jeremy Yates took full advantage by jumping out early against
Linedrive and punching their ticket to the championship with a 15-9 victory. R&M metals/Easton was well rested as they lit up the scoreboard with a 25-5 victory over Taylormade. They were lead by Tournament CO-MVPS Brent Newbill and Brandon Dillion and All tournament stars Kyle Yerkes, Kevin Lucas, Joseph Gordon, Keith Anderson and Michael Umscheid. R&M metals/Easton manager Rob Humphrey also gave great praise to his Co-MVP pitcher Brent Newbill. “Brent did a remarkable job on the mound. He kept opposing hitters off stride all weekend long.” After capturing the elusive 2012 USSSA ‘A’ World Championship Humphrey gave all the credit to his team, Said Humphrey. “I can’t say enough great things about this group of guys that I had the privilege to lead this year.” Humphrey added, “I would like to finish by thanking Roger and Deb Tompkins from R&M metals/Easton, Brett Helmer and Easton sports, James Troupe and Kenny Lowell, without their countless time and support none of this would have been possible.”
