It might just be the perfect bat for every hitter. That is the idea, anyway. Worth set out to design its 2014 Legit fastpitch softball line, the development team wanted to accomplish two things: Give hitters a bat that would produce on the first swing and one that would adapt to any skill level. “This bat is proving to be the answer to a lot of questions,” said Worth Sports Brand Marketing Manager Chelsea Wilson. “The team worked tirelessly on balancing barrel and handle flex to get the most of every swing.” A flexible 4-piece assembly helps Worth achieve its goals allowing hitters with varying styles to experience similar results. “Basically you don't have to be the strongest hitter with the fastest hands,” Wilson said. And that is especially important for younger hitters who are still developing strength and quickness. “This bat was made for them,” said Wilson. “We studied the 12-16 year old

age group and developed a bat with the right amount of flex to enhance their swings. We focused on making the best bat for any type of hitter.” That is where the innovative 4-piece technology comes in. Worth calls it 2x4 Logic and it makes perfect sense. Essentially, this ²Legit bat features an outer and inner barrel that allows for flexibility and a conduit to the handle that reduces vibration. “The idea is to allow the most flexibility in the outer barrel that a hitter can generate,” said Wilson. “Four pieces combine the barrel technology with complimenting flex between the barrel and the handle, and then a collar piece reduces vibration.” “Rather than a traditional two-piece where the barrel is the only flex, a hinge allows the whole bat to flex.” The result is a smooth, sting-free swing. “The collar piece absorbs any vibration coming down the barrel towards a hitter's hands,” Wilson said. “We have always made high-performing bats for the elite hitter, but never like this before and equally for every hitter,” said Wilson. “Within the first couple swings early in the season all of my teams were calling asking when they could get more, and saying that they have never seen performance like this before. “I had Oklahoma calling to tell me they were hitting balls that were still traveling higher as they were passing the outfield lights. This bat is going to set a new precedent for performance. With more development and more technology than any of its predecessors, you would be crazy not to try it.”
Dallas Escobedo just kept throwing strikes. That's always the game plan when she's in the pitcher's circle. The Arizona State senior doesn't back down against anyone. The strike zone is her domain. Opposing hitters have to deal with her, not the other way around. Escobedo will finish her career this spring as one of the legendary hurlers in Pac12 Conference history. And her penchant for throwing strikes has everything to do with that. “The biggest thing for her is she's not walking anybody. She's throwing strikes and really attacking hitters,” Arizona State coach Craig Nicholson said. “Dallas is pretty locked in right now.” She was in complete command at the 2014 Judi Garman Classic -- a showcase of teams from all around the country that is regarded as the premier midseason tournament in the nation. The Sun Devils were the only team to go unbeaten at the Titan Sports Complex in Fullerton, Calif. and Escobedo's weekend performance was a big reason why. She opened tournament play by tossing a nohitter -- the fourth of her career -- against Longwood and followed that up with onehitters against No. 5 Michigan and No. 16 Nebraska. The 6-foot right-hander won four of Arizona State's five games and allowed only one run in 27 innings. “She's making good pitches, and she picking her spots. Any time she gets into tight situations, she’s staying relaxed,” coach Nicholson said. Escobedo went 4-0 with an 0.26 ERA and 38 strikeouts to
earn the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I National Player of the Week award. She was also honored as the USA Softball National Player of the Week and the Pac-12 Conference Pitcher of the Week after holding opposing hitters to a .060 batting average. “These honors obviously mean a lot to us as a team and the hard work
Dallas puts in each week to make us better,” coach Nicholson said. “She is a leader on this team and this weekend was a perfect example of that.” During a 9-1 win over Wisconsin, Escobedo became only the second pitcher in Sun Devils' history to earn 1,000 career strikeouts. She struck out 13 against Longwood and 10 against Nebraska. “I am absolutely honored to be recognized at the USA
College Softball Player of the Week,” said Escobedo. “While it is great to receive the personal recognition, we couldn't have had the performance we had this past weekend if we didn't come together as a team. It was important for us to get back to playing Arizona State softball and we did that. This honor is a testament to all the hard work the girls on the team put in.” Arizona State improved to 26-3 and closed the weekend by showing off its offensive prowess as well. The Sun Devils hit five home runs, including a pair by Amber Freeman who launched her first career grand slam and drove in seven runs. Bailey Wigness, who drove in the winning run in an eight-inning 1-0 win over Nebraska, batted .600 with a .667 on-base percentage. The Sun Devils weren't the only team to hit in the clutch, however, as Long Beach State wrapped up a 4-1 performance at the Judi Garman Classic by rallying for a 4-3 walk-off victory over Texas on Ashlynn Booker's towering drive over the fence in center field. The 49ers came back from a 3-1 deficit courtesy of three home runs. Ashley Holmes and Darian Tautalafua hit back-to-back solo shots to tie the game in the sixth before Booker won it in the seventh.
Dallas Escobedo went 4-0 with an 0.26 ERA and 38 strikeouts to earn the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I National Player of the Week award. She was also honored as the USA Softball National Player of the Week and the Pac-12 Conference Pitcher of the Week after holding opposing hitters to a .060 batting average.

Success for Ally Carda isn't necessarily defined by wins and losses on the softball field. That's not to say UCLA's junior ace wouldn't love to win a Women's Softball College World Series. Every Bruin dreams of playing -- and winning -- in Oklahoma City. Yet, Carda believes there is much more to softball. “I live to inspire those around me,” she explains. Carda has been an inspiration ever since she joined UCLA three seasons ago. And that's saying something given the Bruins' legacy. But one of college softball's most storied programs is once again a championship contender because of her. Carda began the 2014 season by throwing a no-hitter and. now, the third-ranked Bruins have their sights set on a PAC-12 title following a 5-0 performance at the prestigious Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic. “I’ve been working really hard to improve all aspects of my game. Last year, we didn’t end the season the way we wanted to, so I took a lot of pride in working out over the summer and trying to get better in whatever way possible, whether it was pitching, hitting or getting faster and stronger,” said Carda, who won four games at the Mary Nutter

Classic and helped extend UCLA's winning streak to 16 games. “My teammates have had my back all season and it’s been pretty fun to just go out there and play. Everyone on this team is on the same page to get better on our mission to get to the top.” Carda won three games against ranked opponents, posted an 0.67 ERA and batted .429. She struck out 27 batters in 21 innings, including 10 against No. 13 Oklahoma. The 11th Annual Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic featured 35 of the nation’s top NCAA Division I softball programs with 87 games played on five fields over a span of four days. UCLA posted the best record, while Tennessee went 4-0. Florida, Arizona and Oklahoma each went 4-1. Previously known as the Palm Springs Classic and Cathedral City Classic, the tournament was renamed in 2013 to honor Mary Nutter, a pioneer in coaching clinics, who passed away in 2012. The Bruins were off to their best start since the 2004 National Champions won 25 straight.

Sophomore Mysha Sataraka hit .500 she is another reason for their success. She batted . 500 with nine runs batted in at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic, including a two-run, walk-off double against Missouri. Sataraka had seven hits in 14 at-bats, with a .857 slugging percentage and a .611 on base percentage. Tennessee was also off to one of its best starts at 13-0 after winning four games at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic. With victories over Nebraska, Oregon State, Stanford and Fresno State, the Vols have established themselves as legitimate Women's College World Series contenders. Ace Ellen Renfroe shut down Stanford on three hits and Megan Geer homered in a 3-1 win, while the Vols rallied from a three-run deficit to beat Fresno State behind a home run from Madison Shipman. The fifth-ranked Florida Gators rallied for a big win, too, capping off its 4-1 trip to the Big League Dreams Sports Complex with a 5-3 win over Georgia Tech. The Gators also picked up wins over Loyola Marymount, Oklahoma State and Syracuse after losing in 12 innings to Missouri in the tournament opener. Freshman second base Kelsey Stewart went 3 for 3 and drove in three runs, including a basesloaded double in the sixth against Georgia Tech. She went 7 for 21 with three extra base hits and three stolen bases during the tournament. Arizona rebounded following a day-one loss as well -- winning its final four games to improve to 13-1. The Wildcats scored 33 runs, while allowing only five. “I thought we really came together as a team and learned that we can rely on anyone at any time,” senior Alex Lavine said. “We have a very deep lineup.” There is depth in the circle as well. Sophomore pitcher Nancy Bowling struck out seven in a two-hit performance as Arizona defeated No. 11 Nebraska, 7-0. “I thought we pitched well, played good defense and got some timely hits,” coach Mike Candrea said. Oklahoma used the same ingredients to win four of five in Corona, Calif. as senior outfielder Destinee Martinez earned her first Big 12 Player of the Week Award by going 8 for 16 with seven runs scored, seven RBI and a .556 onbase percentage. Martinez raised her season average to .340 with the help of a 4-for-4 outing against Oregon State. She drove in three runs in an 11-9 comeback victory over Northwestern and had three more RBI in the Sooners' final game against Syracuse - a 6-2 win.

FLORIDA GATORS It wasn't as difficult a decision as it might appear on the surface. Hannah Rogers deserved to start on opening day. That's the proper reward for the pitcher who currently ranks second in University of Florida softball history with 97 wins. Yes the Gators have, perhaps, the best pitching rotation in the country and, yes, coach Tim Walton had two other talented hurlers to choose from in freshman lefty Delanie Gourley and junior right-hander Lauren Haeger. But the 5-foot-10 Rogers, who throws 67 mph, has earned the right to be considered the team's ace after going 33-7 last season with a 1.71 ERA. She is an All-American. Enough said. The great thing about Rogers, though, is that she completely understands and appreciates the talent that surrounds her. “Our pitching staff is one of the best pitching staffs in the country. It’s going to be awesome to know that we all have each other’s back, and if someone is having a bad day, then the next pitcher can come in and help them out. It’s going to be great,” she said. “Everyone is doing great.” The Gators have plenty of reason to be excited. They won the Southeastern Conference regular season and tournament championship, going 58-9 overall, and advanced to the Women's College World Series. Haeger was 16-2 with a 2.35 ERA and now Gourley provides even more depth in the circle with a 60-plus mph fastball and a 49 mph change-up that helped her strike out 1,352 batters at Lakeside (CA) El Capitan High School. “I’m a junior, I’ve done this a couple times now and I can say that it’s really exciting. I think it’s more motivating and exciting than it is feeling pressure. I like pressure. That’s how I like to play and that’s how I like to perform. I think we’re all just really excited,” said Haeger, who threw a no-hitter against Wisconsin on Feb. 9. Haeger, who plays first base when she's not pitching, finished third on the team in hitting (.319) and led the Gators in both home runs (18) and RBI (70). The offense, however, starts with sophomore second baseman Kelsey Stewart, who was part of the 2013 USA Softball Junior Women’s National Team that captured a silver medal at the 19 and under Jr. Women’s World Championships in July. “We wear a Gator on our chest every single time we go out there. We have that responsibility no matter what,” she said. “I think we can’t worry about the rankings. We’ve got to do what we do best.”
Coach Kelly Inouye-Perez uses one word to describe the make-up of her softball team: Perseverance. The UCLA Bruins will find out how true that is as the postseason approaches. After beginning the season with a 33-2 record -- the program's best start since 2001 -- and moving to the top of the national rankings in early April, the Bruins hit their first rough patch of the spring when they lost two of three to No. 3 Oregon during the first weekend of April. How the Bruins respond will certainly determine their fate as a Pac-12 and Women's College World Series contender. “Anything can happen,” said freshman shortstop Delaney Spaulding. And the Bruins are ready for what lies ahead because they have what is necessary to bounce back -- outstanding pitching. Ally Carda, Jessica Hall and Paige McDuffee make up one of the nation's most formidable rotations. Combined they have 33 wins and a 1.33 ERA with 264 strikeouts in 38 games. Carda, a junior, threw the first no-hitter of her career against Delaware in February and has started at six different positions for the Bruins. That has as much to do with her bat -- a teambest .386 average -- as her arm. Stephany LaRosa is hitting .375, while Mysha Sataraka has a team-high 36 RBI and Delaney Spaulding leads the Bruins with 39 runs scored. “This team is really resilient and we just have a lot of versatility on the field,” junior second baseman Gracie Goulder said. “If anything happens, we’re ready for it.”

UCLA BRUINS

OREGON DUCKS Janelle Lindvall recognized the opportunity for what it might mean later in the season. A weekend series against the consensus top softball team in the country would provide the Oregon Ducks with a pretty good idea of what they are truly capable of. If nothing else, facing top-ranked UCLA three times at home would let the Ducks know if they were serious WCWS contenders. “We believe, at least I believe, that if we play to our potential we can beat anyone,” Lindvall said. The Bruins (33-4) arrived in Eugene playing their best softball in more than a decade. The major national polls, most notably USA Today/NFCA and ESPN, had them ranked No. 1 overall. Oregon scored 22 runs and won two games against UCLA to stake their own claim at a No. 1 ranking. They maintained sole possession of first place in the competitive Pac-12 and improved to 34-5 overall. “It's definitely what we can do, and that's a good thing,” said senior first baseman Kailee Cuico, who leads the team with 10 homers. “We just now have to recognize that and run with that, be very confident that that can be our M.O. — just pounding on teams.” After sweeping then-No. 5 Washington to set up a dramatic showdown for first place, Oregon extended its winning streak to seven games before UCLA took the series finale, 6-1. But, by then, the Ducks had proven themselves worthy of the challenge. In the opener, Lindvall drove in five runs to lead Oregon to a 9-7 victory. She hit her sixth home run of the season and the Ducks roughed up Pac-12 ERA leader Ally Carda for eight runs. The hits kept coming in game two as the Ducks coasted in a 12-4 rout. Cuico hit a grand slam in the fourth inning and a three-run homer in the first to become Oregon's career RBI leader with 160. The talent is certainly there to achieve that. Courtney Ceo leads the team with a .476 average and 36 runs scored and Alexa Peterson has a team-high 42 RBI, while Janie Takeda is batting .397 and Alyssa Gillespie .394.

ARIZONA STATE SUN DEVILS

Craig Nicholson knew perfectly well what he was getting into. It would have been impossible to pass up an opportunity to coach a softball team that has reached the WCWS seven times in the past eight seasons. That is the program Nicholson inherited when he left Ball State to take over the reign's after former coach Clint Myers headed to Auburn. Nicholson is approaching 1,000 career wins as a college coach and he's spent some time in Women's Pro Fastpitch - helping the Chicago Bandits win a league championship. He also made some history by leading Ball State from the depths of probation to a College World Series appearance in 2010. There will be no such rebuilding effort in Tempe. The Sun Devils have four All-Americans in their lineup -pitcher Dallas Escobedo, catcher Amber Freeman, shortstop Cheyenne Coyle and outfielder Alix Johnson – the most of any team in the country. That leadership starts with Escobedo, who led Arizona State to a World Series championship as a freshman and went 30-6 with a 2.32 ERA last spring. But it doesn't end there. Freeman was named the Pac-12 Player of the Year in 2013 after batting .361, while Coyle led the conference with 20 home runs. Johnson ranks among ASU leaders in home runs (12th), RBI (11th), hits (22nd), doubles (15th). The Sun Devils also return All-Pac-12 selections Mackenzie Popescue, Haley Steele, Bethany Kemp, Bailey Wigness, Elizabeth Caporuscio and Nikki Girard. All of that talent in one place leads everyone in Tempe to believe that another World Series berth is possible. The Sun Devils won 50 games a year ago and have won two national titles in the past seven years, which is partly why they are co-favorites in the Pac-12, along with Washington. Of course, Nicholson already knew that.

first swing. “There's no break-in period,” Ritter said. The technology doesn't stop there. The LXT is also constructed with patent-pending PURE 360 composite --, a feature that incorporates thinner, high-strength, lightweight graphite fibers for more layers and added strength to reduce the thickness of the barrel wall and provide more pop. LXT is available in -8, -9 and 10 weights, with lengths varying from 30 to 34 inches, and retails for $349.99. “We believe that having confidence at the plate is one of the most important tools you bring to your game and we’re sure fastpitch players will have the confidence they need with the LXT,” Ritter said. Some of the top college teams in the country agree. “The best bats in the country,” said University of Louisiana – Lafayette coach Michael Lotief. “End of conversation. PERIOD.”

Fastpitch softball's first three-piece bat is already a hit with the best college teams in the country. Nearly half of the programs ranked in the Division I Top 25 are already swinging the Louisville Slugger LXT in 2014 and Arizona State coach Craig Nicholson is among its biggest fans. “My team is swinging the best bats I’ve ever seen,” said Nicholson. Created with innovative technology that fuses together the handle, barrel and socket, the LXT is a precision blend of weight, balance, sweet spot and, most importantly, pop. “It’s a formula for awesome performance and durability,” said Louisville Slugger Fastpitch Business Manager Jennie Ritter. “A strong link between the handle and barrel means maximum sting elimination on those off-sweet-spot hits, while still allowing hitters to feel if they hit it true. Positive feedback and even more trampoline off the barrel add up to the best-feeling bat you’ve ever swung.” The Louisville Slugger LXT is the most advanced fastpitch bat in history with patented TRU3 transition technology that creates a hard connection between the barrel and handle. “TRU3 technology joins the handle and barrel together with a stronger socket, giving you a true feel with every hit,” Ritter said. “The three pieces fused together form a truly incredible trampoline spring and a strong link between barrel and handle. They also eliminate stinging vibration to help hitters accelerate through impact.” LXT also features Louisville Slugger’s original S1iD (Swing 1 inner disc) technology, which was made popular in the XENO model. S1iD allows for a flexible, more forgiving barrel, huge sweet spot and cleaner-sounding pop with every hit, meaning that the LXT is at maximum performance from the very

Outfielder Bobby Hughes retired Backup Pitcher L.C. Watson left to pitch for Backman/Shoppe
Outlook: No surprise here, Resmondo enters the 2014 season back atop the pre-season rankings after winning the USSSA Major World Series in 2013 over arch rival Laservision. They return their entire starting team and make some nice additions. Resmondo dominated 2013 by posting one of the greatest records in Major softball history with 57 wins and 5 losses. They won a league high 9 tournaments including the prestigious Hall of Fame Duals, the Dudley, and the Smoky Mountain Classic. Resmondo started the season with a 26 game winning streak and ended it by winning 24 in a row! Look for Resmondo to get out of the gate quickly with a team which over the last couple of years has actually gotten younger with the additions of infielders Powers, Mack, and Salas, and outfielders Santana and Yates (Conference Def MVP) - all of whom are in their 20's. Salas is the best 3rd baseman in the game. Andy Purcell returns as the most dominant pitcher. Add in veteran SS Don Dedonatis Jr, middle infielder Dennis Rulli (Conference MVP), and professional stadium hitters like Connell, Isenhower, Fulk, and Krause and sponsor Travis Resmondo is the favorite to add to his championship trophy room with another World Series title which would be his 9th! Resmondo is the team to beat and looking to add to their resume to become the greatest slowpitch team of all time!

Outlook: Sponsors Pierre Alfred, Bob Hortenbach, and Brett Helmer return their Laservision team to the Conference. The 2012 World Series winner and 2013 runner up, starts the season as the #2 ranked team in the nation. They let go a lot of veteran players in order to trim costs and went in a different direction this year with some young up and coming players. The youthful exuberance and potential chemistry of this team will make for an interesting season. Look for Laservision to contend for a title and finish on Sunday at most regular season events. Travis Clark will take over the starting pitching duties, Kevin Bazat will anchor the middle of the infield, and Luis Reyna will look to solidify the defense. Youngsters third baseman Dale Brungardt and second baseman Steven Lloyd, along with CF Brandon Dillon will also fill some big shoes and they are ready to do so. Veteran Major players Bryson Baker, Brian Wegman, Brett Helmer, Scott Kirby, and lefty Kevin Filby will provide consistent offensive firepower. This team is actually very young in softball terms and if they are hungry and step up their game the sky is the limit! The youngsters get the nod to play with the big boys: Bazat at middle has the quickest turn in the game, Reyna at shortstop smothers hard grounders like no other, Dale Brungardt adds raw stadium power, and Steven Lloyd brings all 5 tools to an exciting "new" team. Manager Billy Messina will also be one of the backup pitchers and I wouldn't be surprised to see Brett Helmer on the hill at some point. Super utility man Mike Umschied will see a lot of action as some of these guys tend to get nicked up during the season. Laservision has an aggressive schedule, playing in Conference, ASA, and even the NSA Super events. Their schedule of 20 tournaments is reminiscent of the early 1990's when some of the top teams rarely took a weekend off.

Outlook: Sponsor Jerry Backman returns with Greg Blackburn (Shoppe) to field a competitive Major level team for Louisville Slugger. Larry Quartuccio returns as manager and a good core of veteran and younger players. The team features 2013 Offensive MVP Robert Blackburn. They pick up Resmondo pitcher LC Watson and a quad of former Laservision sluggers Chad Durick, Kevin Kennington, Sam Lopez, and Brian Rainwater who are brought in to give Backman some Championship experience. Look for Backman/Shoppe to be a regular Sunday finisher with an outside shot at knocking off one of the big two on occasion. Backman added some big names and has assembled a dark horse threat for the race to #1. This team needs to score a win over the top Major teams early in the season and build from there. There are some questions like how will pitcher L.C. Watson do after two years on the Resmondo bench? I think he will do well. Can former Laservision players like Rainwater, Lopez, Kennington, and Durick make a big impact from the outset? Can the younger Backman players like Neil Haglund, Dave Kessler, and Jonathan Lenz take their game to the next level? Looking at the schedule they definitely aren't avoiding the big tournaments, basically playing the same schedule as Resmondo.

Outlook: Team Combat returns as the 4th Major level team for 2014. They are another team with a nice mix of veterans and younger players. Chris Greinerts power and attitude mixed with the now healthy pitching of Chad Munger and outfield play of Sid Stephany make this version of Team Combat a step up from 2013. Questions abound however: can Combat compete with the other Major teams? Last year they were 0-3 vs. Major teams, 9-10 vs. 'A' teams, and 7-9 vs. 'B'. They have big plans but need to start out playing every inning of every game as hard as possible. Will young infielders Bryce Oliveira and Cameron Cox blossom into bonafide major players? Can Chris Greinert bring a fresh "chip on the shoulder" attitude to this Major team?

Laservision middle infielder and Defensive MVP Kevin Bazat LAS VEGAS, NV., --- Laservision/H Auto/JJ's/Easton avenged an early 31-29 tournament loss to Baugh Ford/Doerflinger/National Pawn/Klutch Brand/Easton and fought their way back through a tough losers bracket to double dip
Baugh Ford 32-12 in the championship game and 36-20 in the winner take all "If" game. In the losers bracket Laservision was on a mission as they easily defeated their first opponent 49-10. Laservision continued to play hard both defensively and on offense as they dispatched of Classic Glass/Easton by the score of 24-9. Their next game would be a battle of titans as Laservision matched up against fellow "Major" team Combat/Softball.com.
Combat jumped out to a big 17-1 lead after two innings on the strength of 8 Home Runs (Greinert (2), Graus (2), and Cox, Rogowski, and Bilardello all hit 1 each). But Laservision showed their offensive strenth as they scored 27 runs over the bottom of the 2nd and 3rd innings. Steven Lloyd, Mike Umschied, Travis Clark, Brett Helmer, Dale Brungardt, and Umschied all hit homers in the 2nd to close the gap to 17-13. Laservision shut down Team Combat in the top of the 3rd inning and recieved another Mike Umschied homer, this time a grand slam with two outs to tie the game at 17-17. The slam was followed by a Helmer bases loaded 3 run double followed by a Brungardt 3 run homer to give Laservision a 15 run 3rd and a 28-17 lead. Laservision ended it in the bottom of the 5th on a Travis Clark walk off run rule homer. Laservision avenged their early tournament loss as they downed Baugh Ford 32-12 in the championship game. In the "If" games last inning Laservision got a grand slam from Travis Clark, a 2 run homer from Helmer, a 3 run homer from Dillon, and a walk off 2 run double by Bryson Baker to win it 36-20.
and again in the finals on Sunday 28-25. Line Drives Defensive Tournament CO-MVP Chris Hansen had an outstanding tournament as he gloved several tough catches and squished late inning rallies on multiple occasions. All Tournament Team selections Sal Formosa, Cory Large, Ryan Parfitt, Richard Salazar and
Cooper Vittatow all contributed on both sides of the ball and each made key defensive stops, however it was Line Drives lethal offense that led the way throughout the tournament and the team actually lit up the scoreboard with a tournament scoring high of 50 runs in their first game against OuttaControl/ParadiseLawn.

Robert Blackburn has been swinging a Z-3000 since last summer. Long before the rest of the softball world discovered the world's first three-piece bat, the reigning USSSA batting champion knew that Louisville Slugger had produced the next big thing. “It’s the real deal,” he said. “The Z-3 has serious pop. Every guy I’ve let swing it loves it. The Z-3000 is going to be the bat in 2014.” Blackburn prefers the Louisville Slugger Z-3000 because it allows him to take an aggressive, controlled swing through the hitting zone without sacrificing performance and distance. “With the 3-piece technology I do feel the positive vibration upon impact throughout the sweet spot of the bat. Which allows me to receive good feedback that I am looking for in a bat,” he said. Louisville Slugger created its new TRU3 transition technology for that very reason -- to strengthen the link between the barrel and handle and create a trampoline spring that dramatically reduces vibration on contact. “The straighter, thicker rubber ring results in a bat that’s not only sturdier but feels better with every swing,” said Louisville Slugger Business Manager of Slow-Pitch Softball Dennis Turner. “Our Pure 360 composite material allows us to provide thinner, high-strength and lightweight graphite fibers that allow us to use more layers in the barrel for added strength, while reducing overall wall thickness. Unlike our competitors, TRU3 features a solid connection between the handle and barrel, giving players maximum performance on every swing.” The bat is performance ready from the very first swing and will only get better over time, according to Turner, who said the new design increases performance and durability. Blackburn had a .798 On-Base Percentage (OBP) using Louisville Slugger’s Z2000 and has now switched to the Z-3000. “If you play softball, you will see lots of Z-3000's on the ball field this spring and summer,” Blackburn said. The Z-3000 is also the exclusive bat of the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team. “I’ve put thousands of swings on a demo. It was hot from the first swing and just got better and better,” said WWAST shortstop Matt Kinsey, a U.S. Army veteran of Afghanistan. “The Z-3000 is incredible. I can’t wait to use it in a game.” The Louisville Slugger Z-3000 is available in balanced and end load for USSSA at 26, 27, 28 and 30 ounces. It’s also available in balanced and end load for ASA at 26, 27, 28 and 30 ounces. The bat retails for $299.99.

The Worth Legit sweetspot just got a sugar rush. That's how the 2014 Worth Legit slowpitch bats feel now that they have been modified with optimized fiber angles in the barrel. “We've created a bigger sweet spot that gives hitters a bat that is hot out of the wrapper,” said Worth Sports Marketing Manager Mike Cornell. The same can be said for the 454 Sick line, which features strengthened carbon filter composites and a new two-phase resin system that is engineered to make the bats stronger than ever before. “Hitters can expect longer distance than ever before with outstanding feel,” Cornell said. The Legit Resmondo, Andy Purcell and Don DeDonatis Jr Signature Model bats are perfect examples of bats which have been designed with heavy hitters in mind. “It does not have as much to do with flex as is has to do with torque, Cornell said., “an end loaded bat will usually equal better distance because it helps the hitter throw his hands into the zone thus creating more force on impact.” “Power hitters typically love end loaded bats because they are strong enough to handle the full ounce load found in Resmondo branded bats.” Power hitters also typically love a bat that generates home run power on the first swing. Legit delivers that. So does Sick with its 454 technology. “Players today want a bat that is great out of the wrapper. They want instant satisfaction,” Cornell said. Add durability to the mix and the new Sick bats are something of a revelation with the two-phase resin system that makes the engineered carbon fiber composite hotter and stronger than previous models. “It fortifies the walls by creating a better bond inside the carbon materials without sacrificing wall thickness, thus giving the hitter a great performing bat with tremendous durability,” Cornell said. Major division players such as BJ Fulk, Jeff Hall and Gregg Connell all agree that the 2014 Worth line is indeed, “legit.” “I talk to these guys at least once a week. The feedback I have received has been phenomenal,” Cornell said. “Connell, Fulk, DeDonatis and Purcell have raved about the new bats and love the fact that they hit great right out of the bag.” And they look pretty cool, too. “Each year I hear comment after comment regarding how sharp our bats look,” Cornell said. “The designs and colors they use on our bats are second to none in the industry. This year’s line-up is no exception. When you can take a bat that performs like a Worth and make them look this good, that is icing on the cake.”

Columbus, OH., --- Pure Romance / Headlines Apparel / Easton won the 2014 GSL MOJO Moneyball “Open” division tournament in Columbus, Ohio. “GSL” is the Global Sports League association that just announced a partnership with USSSA starting in 2015. Pure Romance or “PRI” as they are known beat a field of 10 class 'A' and 'B' teams and posted a perfect 4-0 recoed. PRI was 0-3 in this same tournament in 2013, showing that the tournament is always wide open for any team to win each year. PRI beat fellow Cincinnati based 3rd Street/Louisville Slugger/Weller/MOJO 29-20 in the winner's bracket championship game and won 2012 in the final game. The tournament was a 3 game guarantee format and was played in one day beginning at 8 AM and ending at 10 PM. PRI was bumped to the GSL 'A' division just before the tournament as they added major players Brian Wegman in centerfield, and Travis Clark at pitcher prior to the tournament. Additionally PRI added Brad Reckart from Baugh Ford at third base. Wegman and Clark of course normally play for Laservision in the other associations. The tournament featured 7 Conference USSSA teams. The event is sponsored by MOJOSportsGear.com and the Moneyball comes into play 6 times throughout the weekend when a team and a player are randomly selected during a live game to hit a home run. If the player succeeds MOJO gives the player $100 on the spot. The “Open” division tournament was played on the baseball fields at Lou Berliner Park with the beautiful all turf infields. The weather was cold and the wind picked up early and never relented, blowing in at 15
mph from left on the “show” field #14. The GSL “Open” division home run rules are 6 plus the DHH-Designated Home Run Hitter. The DHH is a player that each team picks before the game starts that can hit a home run without it counting toward the team home run total. The wind caused many teams to choose a lefty as their DHH and most teams did not reach the HR limit on the main field. Games started at 8 AM and there were two first round games that played into the main bracket. H&D/Rover Plus Nine/Moose Lodge 1592 a new 'B' team from Indiana made Reds Astros chase them the whole way and held on late defensively to upset Reds 20-18. In the other “play in” game TG Brand from Michigan beat Cedar Creek from Indiana 8-5. In the round of 8 - PRI run ruled Street Kids Softball 19-4, Headlines/Cooper knocked off H&D/Rover 13-12 in extra innings on a Tyler Collins walk off hit, TG Brand smoked Tailgaters 12-2, and 3rd Street used a clutch homer by Tom Stevens and a Rob Menke walk off single to come from 6 down in the 7th inning to beat Cash House 23-22. Cash House didn't score for 3 innings in the game and was down double digits before coming back and posting that 6 run lead going into the last inning. The tournament was played with an hour and 15 minute time limit which came into play in some of the close early games. In the final 4, Headlines/Cooper jumped on Pure Romance (PRI) early on and built a 10 run lead, but PRI
came back late and sent Headlines/Cooper to the loser's bracket 25-18. In the bottom half of the bracket 3rd Street used a couple of Tom Stevens homers to beat TG Brand 17-13. In the winner's bracket championship game PRI knocked off 3rd Street 29-20 on the strength of a 10 run 6th inning. Meanwhile the loser's bracket got turned upside down when Cash House who was 0-2 was able to stay in the tournament because of the 3 game guarantee format and proceeded to send home H&D 20-4, Street Kids 22-17, TG Brand 19-14, and Headlines/Cooper 23-11, before losing in the loser's bracket championship game to 3rd Street 22-13. Cash House salvaged a tough tournament finishing 43 after their first game last inning loss to 3rd Street 23-22, and first loser's bracket game loss to Reds Astros 21-20 when the time limit was breached. Overall the tournament was well played in cold weather. There were no bad hops in the infields the whole weekend. Brian Wegman hit the longest home run in the winner's final against 3rd Street. 3rd Street shortstop Brian Blount made some spectacular defensive plays using the turf to bounce the ball to first base to complete throws, and the teams overall were very evenly matched. The MOJO Moneyball Home Run Derby was held on Friday night and the winner was Ryan Disbennett who won two new Easton bats. Buddy Wolf finished 2nd and ended up with the $800 Yeungling refrigerator prize.
