THE HONEYCOMB PROJECT
- WIMBO PARK, SURRY HILLS
INSPIRED BY THE NATURE OF HONEY BEE’S HONEYCOMB AND THEIR INTUITIVE KNOWLEDGE IN SHAPE, FORMALITY AND ORGANIZATION THROUGH THE SPATIAL USAGE OF THE HEXAGON SHAPE. THIS PROJECT IS AN EXPLORATION THROUGH THE CHANGING SPACES THAT BREATHES THROUGH SURRY HILLS IN THE CURRENT MEDIA. LOCATED NEXT TO THE HEART OF SYDNEY, SURRY HILLS BREW WITH AMAZING SOCIAL LIFE, CAFES, AND OTHER GREAT TREASURES HIDDEN THROUGH HISTORY AND AMAZING ARCHITECTURAL TERRACE HOUSING. CURRENTLY AND CONSISTENTLY GROWING, SUSTAINABILITY HAS BEEN RIDING THROUGH THE STREETS OF SURRY HILLS, TRANSPORTATION HAS NOW EVOLVED TO BECOMING CAR FRIENDLY. MORE PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION ARE BEING BUILT, MORE CYCLIST RIDES THE ROADS AND MORE WALKERS STEP THEIR WAY DOWN THE SIDE WALKS. TAKING THE SHAPE OF THE HEXAGON AND ITS NATURAL STRUCTURAL SHAPE, THIS PROJECT IS TO CATER FOR VARIATION IN SOCIAL GROUPS, CATER FOR SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORTATION DEVICES AND CREATE A BOLD SOCIAL SPACE THAT HOLDS ALL GROUPS AND SIZES.

PERFORMERS, STREET BUSKETEERS, MUSICIANS CREATES AND CLAIMS SPACES TO CREATE AMBIANCE AND ATMOSPHERE WITH THEIR PERFORMANCE. THROUGH CREATION OF THESE SORTS OF SPACES, AUDIENCES BECOME ATTRACTED TO THESE SPACES AND ALSO, IN SOME CASES, REPELLED BY THOSE SPACES.
A MASTERPLAN INFLUENCED BY THE GRID SYSTEM OF THE STREETS OF MELBOURNE CITY. WITH MANY ALLEY WAYS, YOU LOSE YOUR BEARINGS AS THROUGH THEM. IN DOING SO, YOU WILL ENCOUNTER INTERESTING SPACES AND STREET ART THAT HIDES IN THESE ALLEY WAYS. A DESIGN COMPETITION FOR FLINDER STREET STATION THAT OVERLOOKS MELBOURNE’S GROWING POPULATION, PRECINCTS AND REVITALISE A TREASURE OF THE PAST INTO A HERO FOR OF NEW GENERATION. THE OLD TIMER AT THE STATION IS STILL AND ALWAYS WILL CONTINUE IN THE SAME LOCATION IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN.
WALKING ALONG THE OPEN SPACES OF MELBOURNE, ITS CITY SCAPE MAPS OUT GRID TYPOGRAPHY WITH TURNING CORNERS INTO ALLEY WAYS, ENLIGHTENING YOU TO EXPLORE CONCLUDED SPACES. LOSING YOUR BEARINGS, YOU WAY FIND YOUR WAY THROUGH THE CITY GRID AND UNCONCIOUSLY EXPLORE THE CITY AND WHAT LURKS IN ITS STREETS AND THE AMAZING POSSIBILITIES ARISES IN THESE CONCLUDED SPACES. THIS CONCEPT SHAPES OUR MASTERPLANNING FOR THE FLINDER STREET STATION, WHERE VISUALLY THE NEW BLENDS WITH THE OLD THROUGH RESPECTS TO HISTORY AND CURRENT STRUCTURE. WITH THIS LIMITATION, IT GIVES CHALLENGES TO BREAK THE LIMITS OF WHAT THE GRID HAS OFFERED AND RESHAPE THOSE SPACES.

5000x3000mm, Vental 'R80' aluminium external louvre blinds operable with electric motor mounted on to custom-made curved aluminium louvre rack to match curvature of glulam arch, aluminium slats 80mm wide and 0.44mm thick, Silver Metallic VSR140 finish, fixed to man. spec. 4500x1040mm, Danpalon 'HeatStop DP16' multicell polycarbonate roof sheeting, 16mm thick, ice finish, mechanically locked with 'DPCW' wide polycarbonate connectors plus 'DPS' aluminium spacers bolted on to trussed purlins with galvanised steel bolts. STUDENT HOUSING PROJECT A STUDENT HOUSING PROJECT AT THE UNIVERSITY OF SYDNEY, WITH PURPOSES OF SUSTAINABILITY. INFLUENCE BY THE LOCAL AREA AND THE UNIVERSITY NEEDS, MAXIMISE AMOUNT OF STUDENT THAT CAN BE HOUSED AT A CHEAP COST IN TERMS OF RENTING AND CONSTRUCTION. THE STUDENT HOUSING IS DESIGNED WITH CAREFUL SELECTION OF MATERIALS.
SELECTION OF THE HOLLOW CORE SLAB WITH VENTILATION LOUVRES ATTACHED ON THE OUTSIDE, ALLOWS TRANSFER OF WIND FROM OUTSIDE TO WHERE VENTILATION IS NEEDED. 250MM “THERMOMASS” CONCRETE PANELS IS COMPACTED WITH A 50MM THICK INSULATION FOAM TO ALLOW MORE STABLE TEMPERATURE WITHIN THE BUILDING FOR COMFORT. IN DOING SO, THESE MATERIALS ARE CAREFULLY PLACED AROUND THE EDGES OF THE BUILDING BASED ON WHERE IT IS NEEDED, UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF NATURE AROUND THE SITE.

A SMALL TEAM IN DOUBLE BAY DEDICATED TO B.I.M. THROUGH CONSTRUCTION AND ARCHITECTURAL PLANNING AND VISUALS. WE CREATE VISUALS BASED ON DESIGNS TO BE BUILT AND PLAN THE MOST EFFICIENT METHODS TO BUILD THE PROJECT IN A DESIGNATED TIME FRAME. THIS IS COMMUNICATED THROUGH A SERIES OF DOCUMENTATION, VIEWED THROUGH 2D, 3D AND/OR 4D ANIMATIONS. WE ARE ALSO COMMITTED TO CREATING ARCHITECTURAL VISUALIZATION, CREATING STRIKING 3D STILLS OF DESIGN SPACES FROM PLANS THAT UPHOLDS THE IDEA BEHIND THE ARCHITECTURE AND CULTURE.
