What does SolarVenti do?

How does SolarVenti work?

SolarVenti is designed to ventilate and keep the house dry. By supplying dry preheated air whenever the sun shines, the system lowers humidity and improves air quality. SolarVenti continuously ventilates with dry, warm air, eliminating condensation and reducing the risk of damp, mould and mildew. This makes the house healthier and more comfortable to live in, as well as easier to heat. Consequently, installing a SolarVenti will result in significant savings on your heating bills.

The system is free to run and is entirely solar powered, so it is free to operate. When the sun shines the air in the collector is heated and the integrated solar panel produces power (and extra heat) to drive the built-in fan, which blows air into the house via a ceiling or wall duct.

The fresh warm air injected by the system dries, ventilates and provides the home with additional heat.

Fresh air from outside is drawn in through hundreds of small holes covering the back of the unit and a layer of heavy-duty black felt. The system has been designed to minimise the amounts of dust & pollen drawn in, so that the best possible improvement in air quality is achieved.

When the system is running, the special air circulation system & double-skin Polycarbonate in the collector provides optimal insulation against heat loss. If the desired temperature (set on the conveniently located thermostat) has been reached the system will automatically turn off. The clever SolarVenti design is patented worldwide and the collector will not overheat even on the warmest days, as excess heat is naturally vented. These elegant solar collectors can be mounted on a roof or fixed to a wall.

When the main unit is switched off, the solar power can be used to operate a “Heat Extraction” fan (extracting hot air out) or “Cool-In” fan (bringing cool air in). This allows air to be constantly brought into the house at any time of year, resulting in the best possible air quality wherever you need it.

While old houses are particularly prone to have many problems requiring better ventilation, even new homes suffer from stale and toxic air conditions due to lack of ventilation, as modern windows and doors seal so tight. SolarVent Hybrid - provides Hot Water as well

SolarVenti is primarily a ventilation system (replacing moist stale air with fresh dry air) but the larger systems can contribute greatly towards heating any space. As well as being an additional heat source with no running costs, there is another indirect, but very significant benefit - by providing a constant drying effect on the space, reducing humidity, the amount of heat required from the main heating system (central heating, wood-burning stove, etc.) is greatly reduced as dry buildings heat faster! The efficiency of any heating system is enhanced and the heat distributes quicker (as the air is not damp). A completely dry house also harnesses more heat from the sun coming through windows and doors.

The Hybrid Sv30, in addition to all the other benefits, also supplies you with free hot water throughout much of the year. The circulation of water through the collector is again achieved with the concealed Solar Panels and a 12V pump. It can be connected to an existing hot water tank or choose from a range of tanks including boosting with wood, gas or electric.

With the right sized SolarVenti system, the number of days that you need a heater will be reduced and, on these days, heating will only be required later in the day at a much lower setting - thereby dramatically reducing your energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.

Your home will “feel naturally warmer” and if you currently have a “bone chilling cold” house it winter, it will never be the same again once a SolarVenti is at work! Controller The purpose built controller is simple to install and easy to operate. It allows you to set desired temperature and choose fan speed (the lower the fan speed the higher the temperature of the incoming air).

Cooling Solutions SolarVenti installations can also incorporate one of a number of great Cooling Systems.

A conveniently located SolarVenti Controller (standard with medium and large units) will work to achieve your desired temperature. It automatically ensures that the system ceases to bring in heated air when the desired temperature has been reached and then (if installed) activates the cooling system. Depending on the design of the house and it's surrounds, you may choose a Heat Extraction Unit (installed in a ceiling or wall) or a Cool-In Unit (installed to bring in cool air).

As many customers have experienced - simply extracting the hot air from your house can be surprisingly effective to achieve relief on those hot days. If cool air (of a satisfactory quality) is available from around or under the building the Cool-In Unit will provide additional cooling, again with no running costs. Our In-Ground Cooling Kit takes this one step further.

In-Ground Cooling Kits (IGC) - provide an even cooler solution to increasingly hot weather. The system enables you to draw in fresh, cooled air, travelling through a series of pipes installed 0.3-1 m underground. Ideally the air intake should be in a cool, shaded area outside and the pipes installed in slightly damp ground e.g. where a garden is watered, as the evaporation of moisture increases the efficiency of the cooling system. The IGC system has proved extremely effective in Australian conditions, not only helping you keep cool but also ensuring good ventilation throughout summer.
