METRO STATION BAC DE RODA BARCELONA
BAC DE RODA SUBWAY STATION IS PART OF BARCELONA METRO LINE 2. IT IS LOCATED UNDER GUIPÚSCOA STREET, WHERE IT CROSSES WITH BAC DE RODA. CONNECTION WITH THE STREET IS CREATED BY FIXED MECHANIC ESCALATORS SITUATED IN THE CENTRAL AVENUE OF GUIPUSCOA STREET. THE STATION PLATFORMS ARE ACCESSED FROM THE ENTRANCE HALLS, THROUGH THE TICKET MACHINES, BY STEPS OR LIFTS. THE MAIN PRINCIPLE HAS BEEN TO CREATE ATTRACTIVE SPACES WITH AMPLE PASSES WHICH PROVIDE MAXIMUM COMFORT FOR THE USERS. IN ITS CONSTRUCTION, METALLIC MATERIALS OF A LIGHT COLOR, LONG DURATION, STRONG ANTI-VANDALISM PROTECTION, AND EASY MAINTENANCE HAVE BEEN USED. BOTH ENTRANCE HALLS ARE SPACIOUS BUT HAVE A REDUCED HEIGHT, SOLVED BY INSTALLING A METAL GRILLE WHICH CREATES A DIFFUSE LIGHT AND HIDES THE INSTALLATIONS. THE WALLS ARE LINED WITH SMALL-SCALE WHITE POTTER'S CLAY TILES AND THE FLOOR IS LINED WITH LIGHT GREY TERRAZZO OF MEDIUM GRAIN AND LONG PLATES INTENSIFYING THE LENGTHWISE DIRECTION OF THE PAVEMENT. THE WALLS CLOSER TO THE CIRCULATION AREAS ARE LINED WITH MOLDED GALVANIZED STEEL SHEETS, GOING FROM THE ENTRANCE HALL TO THE PLATFORMS. IN ONE OF THE HALLS IS A GREAT SEMICIRCULAR OPENING PROTECTED BY A GLASS SURFACE WHICH ALLOWS TO VIEW THE TRAINS AS THEY COME AND GO. THE RAILWAY TRACKS AND PLATFORMS ARE COVERED BY A GREAT VAULT EXTENDING OVER BOTH SIDES. THIS SURFACE HAS A DOUBLE CURVATURE, WHICH ALLOWS TO CREATE A MORE OPEN AND RECEPTIVE SPACE AT THE CENTER OF THE PLATFORMS AND AN EASIER CONNECTION AT THE ENDS, WHERE THE VAULT MEETS THE LINTELS OF THE CONNECTION TUNNEL ROOF. THIS VAULT IS METALLIC, LIKE THE LINING OF THE VERTICAL WALLS WHERE THE STRUCTURE BEGINS. THE VERTICAL WALLS OF THE PLATFORMS TAKE A COMPLEX FORM AS THEY MUST MEET THE VAULT WITH A DOUBLE CURVATURE AND THE WALLS OF THE REST OF THE STATION. IT ALSO HAS A BENCH GOING THE WHOLE LENGTH OF THE PLATFORM, FORMED BY A SIMPLE STEPPED VOLUME AND A BACK-REST OF A LENGTHWISE CIRCULAR STAINLESS STEEL TUBE. THIS BENCH LEAVES THE PLATFORM WALL ON SECOND TERM, PREVENTING GRAFFITI AND PROVIDING A SENSE OF GREATER AMPLITUDE IN THE PLATFORMS. THE MOLDING PROCESS OF THE SIDE ENCLOSURES ALLOWS SITUATING THE VENTILATION PIPES ABOVE THE BENCH, PROTECTED BY A GRILLE LIKE THE ONE ON THE ENTRANCE HALL ROOF. ..
METRO STATION CANYELLES BARCELONA
THE STATION, IS LOCATED ON VIA FAVÈNCIA UNDER THE PARK OF SANT MARTÍ IN NOU BARRIS, BARCELONA, A STRATEGIC AND DENSELY POPULATED AREA. DIFFERENTLY FROM THE STATION OF BAC DE RODA, THIS STATION HAS CENTRAL WAITING PLATFORMS, WHICH IMPLIES A HEAD AND TAIL IN THE LINE CONDITIONING THE AUXILIARY SERVICES, ETC. A SERVICE AND MAINTENANCE TRAY OF A VARIABLE HEIGHT IS SITUATED OVER THE CENTRAL PLATFORM, FROM WHICH EMERGE A SERIES OF ARCHES OF THE SAME CURVATURE BUT DIFFERENT STARTING ANGLES FORMING A TRIDIMENSIONAL STRUCTURE, SUPPORTING THE CEILING LINED WITH METAL SHEETS. THIS ROOF FORMS A SURFACE OF VARIABLE SHAPE AND HEIGHT, WITH ITS LOWEST POINT AT THE MIDDLE OF THE PLATFORM AND OPENING TO BRING THE PASSENGERS TOWARDS THE HALLS AT BOTH ENDS. THE STRENGTH OF THE ROOF'S FORM DIVIDES AND DILUTES THE FOCAL POINT, MINIMIZING THE FEELING OF DEPTH AND LENGTH. THE SINUOUS CURVES CONTRAST WITH THE SURFACE OF THE SIDE WALLS, BACKLIT AND SOUND ABSORBENT, AND THE PLATFORM. THE GENERAL SOBER TREATMENT OF THE EQUIPMENT IS COMPLEMENTED BY THE COLD DIFFUSE LIGHT AND ANTIVANDALIC MATERIALS AND FURNITURE, OF AN EASY MAINTENANCE AND LONG DURATION, IN RELATION TO THE REST OF THE COMPLEX, GIVING THE PEOPLE AND SUBWAYS THE MAIN ROLE. AN EXTERIOR PANORAMIC LIFT WITH TWO STOPS BECOMES AN ILLUMINATED AND RECOGNIZABLE REFERENCE POINT (CLOCK), ALLOWING AN EASY ACCESS FROM THE STREET OR THE PARK. .

2 STATIONS OF THE NEW LINE 9 OF THE BARCELONA METRO, LA SALUT AND LLEFIÀ, LOCATED IN KEY POINTS OF THE CITY. LA SALUT AND LLEFIÀ STATIONS BELONG TO THE METRO LINE BUILT BY A TUNNEL BORING MACHINE, WHERE THE METRO TRAVELS UNDER THE GROUND AT DEPTHS OF UP TO 60 METERS. LA SALUT STATION GOES DOWN 34 METERS, WHILE LLEFIÀ STATION GOES 54 METERS DEEP. THE STATIONS CENTER ON TWO ESSENTIAL ASPECTS OF THIS SORT OF EQUIPMENT: THE FIRST IS REDUCING THE CLAUSTROPHOBIA EFFECT AND THE SECOND IS COUNTERACTING THE VERTIGO EFFECT IN THE VOIDS WHICH GIVE ACCESS TO THE PLATFORMS, SOMETIMES UP TO 30 METERS DEEP. METRO STATIONS OF THE BARCELONA SUBWAY, LLEFIÀ, LA SALUT BADALONA
THE RELATION TO ITS SURROUNDINGS IS ESTABLISHED AT THE ENTRANCE HALL AT STREET LEVEL. THE HALL OF LA SALUT STATION RECEIVES NATURAL LIGHT THROUGH A GREAT SKYLIGHT, AN INHERITANCE OF THE ENTRANCE ROUTE OF MATERIALS DURING ITS CONSTRUCTION. THE ENTRANCES TO THE STATION CONNECT THROUGH HALLWAYS TO A GREAT ARTIFICIALLY ILLUMINATED ATRIUM, WHICH THEN OPENS TO THE SPACE ILLUMINATED BY THE SKYLIGHT. ONE OF THE HALLWAYS, GREAT IN LENGTH, USES THE INCLINATION OF ITS WALLS AS A MECHANISM TO REDUCE THE MONOTONY OF ITS PASS. EACH IS LINED WITH INLAYED GALVANIZED PANELS. THE STATION OF LLEFIÀ IS FOUND MORE THAN 50 METERS UNDER GROUND LEVEL, WITH ITS ENTRANCE AT THE CROSSROADS CREATED BY THE RONDA DE SANT ANTONI AND AMERICA AVENUE IN BADALONA. THE MAIN ENTRANCE HALL IS AT STREET LEVEL, PART OF A BUILDING BASE OF PUBLIC EQUIPMENT WHICH INCLUDES COMMERCIAL SPACES AND/OR MUNICIPAL OFFICES. THE ENTRANCE IS UNCONVENTIONAL, CHARACTERIZED BY A GREAT PERGOLA IN SCALE WITH THE CITY WHICH INTENDS TO ACT AS A CENTRAL ELEMENT AND REFERENCE POINT FOR THE NEIGHBORHOOD. THE IMPACT, LANGUAGE AND EXTERIOR IMAGE IS IN RELATION TO THE PROPORTIONS OF THE BUILDING UNDERNEATH. THIS GREAT PERGOLA, BUILT IN GALVANIZED STEEL AND WITH GROWING VEGETATION IS DEVELOPED ALONG THE FAÇADE WITH A GEOMETRY WHICH ADAPTS AND STRESSES THE MAIN ENTRANCE OF THE STATION. THE CIRCULAR VOID IS EMPHASIZED BY A HIGH CEILING, LIMITED BY GLASS WALLS WHERE THE LIFTS GOING TO THE PLATFORMS AND THE VALIDATING MACHINES ARE LOCATED.

BUS WORKSTATION GARAGE PONENT BARCELONA
THE WORKSTATION IN USE IN PONENT IS A PROVISIONAL FACILITY WHICH COMPLEMENTS THE T.M.B. (BARCELONA METROPOLITAN TRANSPORT) FACILITIES LOCATED ON GRAN VIA DE LES CORTS CATALANES IN HOSPITALET DE LLOBREGAT. IT IS THE RESULT OF A SERIES OF INTERVENTIONS STARTING IN 2003 DESTINED TO REHABILITATE, CONDITION AND RENOVATE THE OLD DEPOT, COMPLETELY OBSOLETE AND UNUSED. THE LIMITED RESOURCES ARE DESTINED TO THE RENOVATION OF THE OLD FACILITY, TRANSFORMING AND UPDATING ITS IMAGE AND CONDITIONING THE NEW OFFICES RATIONALIZING ITS WORKING METHOD AND HABITS IN ORDER TO INCREASE ITS EFFICIENCY AND PRODUCTIVITY. SELF-SUSTAINING GALVANIZED STEEL STRUCTURES SUPPORT A HANGING MICRO PERFORATED METAL SHEET FAÇADE WHICH ENVELOPS THE WHOLE CENTER AND GIVES IT A NEW RENOVATED IMAGE, ALLOWING A PERIPHERAL PATH BETWEEN BOTH FAÇADES CONTAINING SERVICES AND MAINTENANCE INSTALLATIONS WHILE HIDING AN UNINTERESTING BUILDING. IN THE ROUND ISOLATED BUILDING, THIS DOUBLE SKIN IS LOCATED AT GROUND LEVEL, WITH A POLYCARBONATE FINISH WHICH MAKES THIS SPACE A GALLERY OF A GREAT SPATIAL QUALITY WHICH INSULATES THE INTERIOR AND TURNS THE BUILDING INTO A GREAT LANTERN WHICH LIGHTS UP AT NIGHT AND BECOMES VISIBLE FROM ALL THE DEPOT AREA. THE ASSOCIATED FACILITIES (PETROL STATION, CAR WASH, ETC) ARE DESIGNED, RENOVATED AND EXTENDED WITH A SIMILAR ARCHITECTURAL STYLE WHICH GIVES UNITY TO AN ORIGINALLY VERY DISPERSE COMPLEX. THE SECOND PHASE CONSTITUTES A PROVISIONAL ANNEXED GARAGE, WHICH GIVES PLACE TO THE MORE MODERN FACILITIES AND FULL SERVICE TO A FLEET OF 120 VEHICLES. THIS BUILDING COMPLETES THE WORKSTATION, AND ALSO BECOMES A PLACE FOR TECHNICAL AND WORKING ORDER EXPERIMENTS FOR FUTURE WORKSTATIONS.

THE CURRENT OPERATION CENTER ZF-1, PROPERTY OF TMB, IS RESULT OF A SERIES OF INTERVENTIONS STARTING IN 2002 AIMED AT THE REHABILITATION, EXPANSION, CONDITIONING AND MODERNIZATION OF AN OLD EXISTING GARAGE LOCATED ON THE STREET A IN ZONA FRANCA, BARCELONA. A COMPLETE IMAGE CHANGE, IN LINE WITH THE CURRENT TIMES, TRANSFORMS IT INTO A MILESTONE, A REFERENCE BUILDING, IMPROVING ITS USE AND PERFORMANCE. THE LIMITED RESOURCES AVAILABLE WERE DESTINED TO THE REHABILITATION AND REFURBISHING OF THE OLD CENTER, UPGRADING AND CHANGING ITS IMAGE RADICALLY, RATIONALIZING ITS PERFORMANCE AND WORK SYSTEM IN ORDER TO MAKE IT MUCH MORE EFFICIENT AND PRODUCTIVE, WITH THE INCONVENIENCE OF THE CENTER WORKING PERMANENTLY. THE WAREHOUSE ROOF IS DESIGNED AS A NEW STRUCTURE WITH DIVIDED 20M BEAMS USING THE EXISTING PILLARS. DECK ROOF WITH TWO LENGTHWISE SKYLIGHTS WHICH TRANSFORM AND ENRICH THE INTERIOR SPACE. SELF-SUPPORTING GALVANIZED STEEL STRUCTURES SUPPORT A HOVERING MICRO-PERFORATED METAL SHEET FAÇADE ALLOWING A PERIPHERAL SERVICE AND MAINTENANCE WALKWAY BETWEEN FAÇADES, HIDING EQUIPMENT, MECHANISMS AND DOOR MOTORS. THIS NEW SKIN AND ROOF GIVES A NEW FACE TO THE CENTER. THE STRUCTURE OF THIS NEW SKIN IS OFFSET FROM THE EXISTING BUILDING PERIMETER, CONDITIONING THE OLD DEPOT AREA WITH AN ATRIUM (SQUARE) FOR THE RESTING DRIVERS OF A HIGH SPATIAL QUALITY. THIS FIRST INTERVENTION ALLOWS TO MODERNIZE ALL THE INSTALLATIONS AND SERVICES, RATIONALIZING AND OPTIMIZING WALKING DISTANCES WHILE ENABLING AN EASIER MAINTENANCE AND FUTURE EXTENSIONS. THE SECOND PHASE, CONSISTING OF THE ANNEX GAS BUILDING MAKES THIS CENTER THE ONLY ONE USING THIS ENERGY SOURCE. THE THIRD INTERVENTIONS INCLUDES THE EXTENSION AND REFURBISHMENT OF THE WHOLE PERIMETER, A PERIPHERAL FENCE WITH AN ACCESSIBLE SERVICE GALLERY WHICH SERVICES THE WHOLE COMPLEX. .

ANNEX BUILDING ON THE BUS DEPOT ZONA FRANCA BARCELONA
HE ANNEX BUILDING IS PART OF THE T.M.B. BUS GARAGE IN ZONA FRANCA, AS A SUBSEQUENT INTERVENTION, INDEPENDENT OF THE OLD GARAGE, DESTINED TO COVER THE NEW NEEDS OF THIS STATION AS A GARAGE FOR NEW GAS VEHICLES. IT IS PLANNED AS A FORERUNNING BUILDING IN THE USE OF GAS VEHICLES, AND BECOMES A POINT OF REFERENCE AND THE ONLY GARAGE USING THIS ENERGY SOURCE. PLANNED IN THE FIRST PLACE AS A PREFABRICATED CONCRETE STRUCTURE, IT FINALLY ADOPTS AN IMAGE OF LIGHTNESS, AS A BACKLIT GLASS BUILDING, BECOMING A VISIBLE MILESTONE FOR ALL THE GARAGE AREA. LIGHT TRANSLUCENT GLASS WALLS ARE USED, WITH HORIZONTAL METAL STRIPS EVERY METER FROM WHICH THE FAÇADE IS ILLUMINATED, AND PERIPHERAL ACCESSIBLE PATHWAYS EVERY 2 STRIPS. THE INTERIOR WORKING ORDER AS A GAS PROPELLED BUS GARAGE MAKES IT A PASSING BUILDING, WITH THREE DIFFERENT DOUBLE WORKING LINES. A GREAT MECHANICAL BRIDGE ALLOWS THE MANIPULATION OF THE ROOF EQUIPMENT. THE MAIN AIM IS TO ACHIEVE AN EMBLEMATIC BUILDING, WITH NO SENSE OF SIZE OR SCALE, WHICH ACTS AS A NOCTURNAL REFERENCE POINT FOR THE WHOLE WORKSTATION, SEEN FROM ITS ENTRANCE AND OUTSIDE THE GARAGE AREA.
GARAGE CAN CABANYES BADALONA
THE MAIN IDEA OF THE GARAGE, LOCATED BETWEEN TO STREETS WITH A GREAT DIFFERENCE IN HEIGHT, CONSISTS OF A GENTLE DESCENDING SPIRAL RAMP WHICH LIBERATES AND SURROUNDS A CENTRAL AREA WITH VEGETATION AND A GREAT SPATIAL QUALITY. THE MAIN ACCESS IS LOCATED ON THE UPPER AREA AT THE START OF THE RAMPS WHICH DESCEND NATURALLY FROM ONE STREET TO THE OTHER. THE OTHER ACCESS GOES FROM THE MOTORWAY SIDE ROAD TO THE LOWEST PART OF THE GARAGE. THIS LAST ACCESS AND ITS CORRESPONDING PARKING SPACES ARE DESTINED TO THE MUNICIPAL TOW TRUCK DEPARTMENT. THE PUBLIC SQUARE ON THE ROOF OR THE PARKING BUILDING BECOMES A GREAT RAMP AROUND THE CENTRAL PATIO WITH ITS ENTRANCE ON SALVADOR ESPRIU STREET. IT IS A PUBLIC URBAN MULTI-USE SPACE WITH A HIGH QUALITY WOODEN SURFACE, A GREAT PERGOLA ON THE AREA ADJACENT TO SALVADOR ESPRIU STREET AND A BALCONY OVER CAN CABANYES AND THE MOTORWAY. THE PARKING IS A SQUARE BUILDING WITH A GREAT OPEN SPACE IN ITS CENTER. THERE ARE NO CONVENTIONAL RAMPS AND IT IS THE FOUR PLATFORMS WHICH SURROUND THE CENTRAL AREA WHICH ARE SLOPED. THESE PLATFORMS ADE 15 METERS WIDE WITH PILLARS EVERY 7.8 METERS, WITH A 3.2% SLOPE ON THE PLATFORMS GOING FROM SALVADOR ESPRIU STREET TO THE MOTORWAY, AND A CURVED SURFACE ON THE PLATFORMS WHICH GO FROM ONE INCLINATION TO THE OTHER IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE FULL CONTINUITY FROM ALL SIDES. THE FAÇADE IS TREATED AS A BREATHABLE SKIN WHICH ALLOWS NATURAL ILLUMINATION AND VENTILATION. IT THEN BECOMES AN AMPLE MULTI-USE SPACE WITH A VERY GENTLE SLOPE AND GOOD ILLUMINATION AND VENTILATION, SURROUNDING A SPACIOUS GREEN AREA AND A GREAT PUBLIC SQUARE ON THE ROOF, MAKING THE PARKING LOT A COMFORTABLE SPACE, REPRESENTATIVE OF THE CITY OF BADALONA.

EDIFICI PER A UNES CAVES A GRATALLOPS, EL PRIORAt .-THE AIM OF THE PROJECT WAS TO BUILD WINE CELLARS IN GRATALLOPS, EL PRIORAT. .-AFTER AN EXTENSIVE STUDY ON THE CONSTRUCTIVE METHOD AND THE IMAGE OF THE BUILDING, IT WAS DECIDED THAT METAL SHEETS WITH INCORPORATED INSULATION WOULD BE USED ON WALLS AND ROOF. .-TWO PEOPLE BUILT THE FOUNDATIONS FOR THE PILLARS AND A CONCRETE BASE FOR ALL THE BUILDING. .-THESE SAME TWO PEOPLE JOINED THE METAL PILLARS TO THE GROUND AND BUILT THE ARCHES, OF A VARIABLE SHAPE. .-THE NEXT STEP WAS TO INSERT THE WALL PANELS THROUGH THE GUIDES IN EACH PILLAR, AND CONSTRUCTING THE ROOF. .-IN OUR OPINION, THE BUILDING RESPONDS TO THE ACTUAL RURAL ARCHITECTURE OF THE AREA. THE WINE BARRELS ARE MADE OF STAINLESS STEEL, AS WOODEN BARRELS DO NOT WORK PROPERLY. .-THE WATER CONTAINERS ARE MADE OF GALVANIZED STEEL IN STEAD OF BRICK, WHICH CRACKS AND ARE MORE DIFFICULT TO BUILD. .-SOLAR PANELS AND WIND MILLS ARE ELEMENTS WHICH HAVE ONLY RECENTLY BEEN INCLUDED IN THE LANDSCAPE. .-BLACK PLASTIC, COLOURED PLASTIC BOXES, TRACTORS OF DIFFERENT COLOURS AND TOW TRUCKS ARE ALSO NOW PART OF THE LANDSCAPE. THE TARMAC OF ROADS AND THEIR GALVANIZED STEEL PROTECTIONS ARE ALSO INEVITABLE. .-IN CONCLUSION, ACTUAL RURAL ARCHITECTURE IN OUR COUNTRY MUST INCLUDE AND ACCEPT THESE TRANSFORMATIONS. WHAT IS REALLY NECESSARY IS A HIGH DESIGN QUALITY. .-THE BUILDING CHANGES TO RESPOND TO THE CONDITIONS OF THE LANDSCAPE. .-IT IS A 55 METER-LONG RECTANGULAR WAREHOUSE, 8 METERS WIDE, A VERY SIMPLE AND BLUNT LINE IN THE LANDSCAPE. .-THE ROOF IS FLAT ON ONE END AND RISES AS IT REACHES THE OTHER TO OPEN TOWARDS A CHAPEL ON THE MOUNTAIN. .-THIS SHAPE DOES NOT ONLY EMPHASIZE THE POSITION OF THIS CHAPEL, BUT ALSO ALLOWS UPWARDS VIEWS FROM THE INTERIOR..

.-THE AIM OF THE PROJECT WAS TO BUILD WINE CELLARS IN GRATALLOPS, EL PRIORAT. .-AFTER AN EXTENSIVE STUDY ON THE CONSTRUCTIVE METHOD AND THE IMAGE OF THE BUILDING, IT WAS DECIDED THAT METAL SHEETS WITH INCORPORATED INSULATION WOULD BE USED ON WALLS AND ROOF. .-TWO PEOPLE BUILT THE FOUNDATIONS FOR THE PILLARS AND A CONCRETE BASE FOR ALL THE BUILDING. .-THESE SAME TWO PEOPLE JOINED THE METAL PILLARS TO THE GROUND AND BUILT THE ARCHES, OF A VARIABLE SHAPE. .-THE NEXT STEP WAS TO INSERT THE WALL PANELS THROUGH THE GUIDES IN EACH PILLAR, AND CONSTRUCTING THE ROOF. .-IN OUR OPINION, THE BUILDING RESPONDS TO THE ACTUAL RURAL ARCHITECTURE OF THE AREA. THE WINE BARRELS ARE MADE OF STAINLESS STEEL, AS WOODEN BARRELS DO NOT WORK PROPERLY. .-THE WATER CONTAINERS ARE MADE OF GALVANIZED STEEL IN STEAD OF BRICK, WHICH CRACKS AND ARE MORE DIFFICULT TO BUILD. .-SOLAR PANELS AND WIND MILLS ARE ELEMENTS WHICH HAVE ONLY RECENTLY BEEN INCLUDED IN THE LANDSCAPE. .-BLACK PLASTIC, COLOURED PLASTIC BOXES, TRACTORS OF DIFFERENT COLOURS AND TOW TRUCKS ARE ALSO NOW PART OF THE LANDSCAPE. THE TARMAC OF ROADS AND THEIR GALVANIZED STEEL PROTECTIONS ARE ALSO INEVITABLE. .-IN CONCLUSION, ACTUAL RURAL ARCHITECTURE IN OUR COUNTRY MUST INCLUDE AND ACCEPT THESE TRANSFORMATIONS. THIS EQUIPMENT IS A NEIGHBORHOOD LIBRARY. THE PROGRAM IS DIVIDED BETWEEN THE EXISTING BUILDING AND THE NEW ADJACENT EXTENSION, CONNECTED BY A TRANSITION SPACE CONCEIVED AS AN EXHIBITION AREA: SPACIOUS WITH A GRAND STEPPED RAMP WHICH CONNECTS THE DIFFERENT LEVELS. THE STRUCTURAL PLAN, AFFECTED BY THE DELICATE SITUATION OF ITS LOCATION (OVER THE ROOF OF THE CITY MOTORWAY), IS RESOLVED BY A STEEL STRUCTURE WORKING AS A BRIDGE, OVER THREE BEDPLATES WHICH REST ON THE EXISTING BUILT STRUCTURE, WITH 15 METER DISTANCES BETWEEN PILLARS. THIS STRUCTURAL PRINCIPLE ALLOWS OPEN AND SPACIOUS SPACES WITH NATURAL LIGHT WHICH GIVE THE BUILDING A GREAT ATMOSPHERIC QUALITY. IN THE EXISTING BUILDING, LONG SKYLIGHTS LOOKING NORTH GIVE A CONSTANT UNIFORM LIGHT AND ALSO SUPPORT THE PHOTOVOLTAIC PANELS. THE GENERAL EXTERIOR IMAGE PRETENDS TO BE AGGRESSIVE AND MONOLITHIC, WITH A BLUNT AND CLEAR GEOMETRY, IN CONTRAST TO A WARM ATMOSPHERE WITH A HIGH ACOUSTIC AND VISUAL COMFORT ON THE INSIDE. THIS EFFECT IS ACHIEVED WITH THE TREATMENT OF THE USED MATERIALS, BOOSTING THEIR CHARACTERISTICS AND EXPRESSION: "CORTEN" STEEL ON THE OUTSIDE AND CLEAR BIRCH WOOD ON THE INSIDE. EN LA ÚLTIMA DÉCADA EL BARRIO HA SIDO OBJETO DE UNA PROFUNDA TRANSFORMACIÓN. LA DECISIÓN DE REALIZAR AQUÍ UNA GRAN BIBLIOTECA PÚBLICA SE INSCRIBE EN LAS POLÍTICAS TRANSFORMACIÓN SOCIAL A PARTIR DE EQUIPAMIENTOS PÚBLICOS ABIERTOS A LA CIUDAD Y CAPACES DE DESENCADENAR PROCESOS DE TRANSFORMACIÓN URBANA. SE PLANTEA UN EDIFICIO EMBLEMÁTICO Y REPRESENTATIVO CAPAZ DE GENERAR UNA IMAGEN RECONOCIBLE EN EL BARRIO Y CONVERTIRSE ASÍ EN UN LUGAR DE ENCUENTRO Y EN UNA NUEVA CENTRALIDAD PARA UNA ZONA QUE SIEMPRE HABÍA CARECIDO DE ESPACIOS PÚBLICOS. THE WINGS HOUSE THE CLASSROOMS, ADMINISTRATION, LIBRATY AND TOILETS, AND THE CENTRAL SPACE CONTAINS A MULTIPURPOSE HALL, THE GIMNASIUM AND THE DINING ROOM. THE CIRCULATIONS AND THE ENTRANCES TO THE CLASSROOMS TAKE THE FORM OF GENTLY SLOPING RAMPS THAT EDGE THE CENTRAL SPACE, FORMING PART OF IT AND FACILITATING UNINTERRUPTED CIRCULATION INSIDE THE BUILDING, VIEWS OF ALL AREAS AND VISUAL CONTROL OF THE ENTIRE SCHOOL. THESE CIRCUMSTANCES HAVE TAKEN TO A BUILDING OF VERY SIMPLE GEOMETRY IN STRONG RELATION TO ITS SURROUNDINGS, GIVING THE PROMINENCE IT DESERVES TO THE LAST. THE AREA'S CLIMATIC CONDITIONS (WITH LOTS OF SNOW DURING THE WINTER) REQUIRE A SLOPED ROOF. THIS ARCHITECTURAL ELEMENT, WITH DISSYMMETRIC EAVES, COVER AND CONCENTRATE THE ROOMS AND SPACES OF THE CENTER. THE SCHOOL IS A SIMPLE AND UNPRETENTIOUS PIECE OF PUBLIC EQUIPMENT, PLANNED PARTING FROM ITS USE AND MAINTENANCE, WITH A FORMAL LANGUAGE IN HARMONY WITH ITS NATURAL SURROUNDINGS. FOR THIS REASON, THE PROJECT MUST BE OF A HIGH QUALITY, REFERRING TO IMAGE AND MATERIALS, AT NIGHT AND DAYTIME, AND FROM A CLOSE UP VIEW OR FAR AWAY. THE PROPOSAL IS A ROOF WHICH WILL ALLOW LIGHT THROUGH, ACTING AS A PERGOLA. IT IS WATERPROOF, LIGHT IN APPEARANCE AND OF CURVED SHAPES. THE UNDULATED SURFACES OF THE ROOF ARE OBTAINED FROM THE SAME BEAMS, SUPPORTED BY PILLARS OF DIFFERENT HEIGHTS AND SHAPE. ON THE NORTH AND WEST SIDE IT LIMITS WITH THE TOWN, WHILE THE SOUTH AND EAST FAÇADE ARE ON THE NON-DEVELOPED AREA. THE VIEWS IN THIS DIRECTION ARE LONG AND IMPRESSIVE. THE LEVEL OF THE EXISTING COURT IS MAINTAINED.

THE PROJECT CONSISTS OF A ROOF FOR AN OUTDOOR SPORTS CENTER AT SANT ADRIÀ DE BESÓS. THE LOCATION IS IN A HEAVILY DEVELOPED AREA, MEANING THAT THE COURT IS LITERALLY FITTED BETWEEN THE NEIGHBORING HOUSE BUILDINGS. THIS PROVIDES THE COURT WITH AN IMPORTANT URBAN SIGNIFICANCE, APART FROM ITS MAIN PROTECTION FUNCTION. THE PROJECT INTENDS TO GENERATE A HIGH QUALITY ELEMENT, CAPABLE OF LIMITING THE SPACE BY VIEW CONTROL BOTH FROM THE STREET AND THE NEIGHBORS. THE ROOF FOR THE COURT IS PROPOSED AS A LIGHT ARTIFACT, OF SINUOUS SHAPES, IMPERMEABLE TO WATER BUT NOT TO SUNLIGHT, ACTING AS A PERGOLA. AT NIGHT, THE COURT'S LIGHTING CREATES A NICE NIGHT VISION OF THE SPACE. THE ROOF IS HELD BY A SEQUENCE OF ARCADES IN PERPENDICULAR TO THE MAIN STREET. EACH ARCADE IS COMPOSED OF THREE-DIMENSIONAL PILLARS AND BEAMS FORMED BY METALLIC PROFILES OF THE SAME DIAMETER TO ACHIEVE A VERTICAL AND HORIZONTAL VISUAL CONTINUUM OF THE STRUCTURE. EACH PILLAR IS INDEPENDENT IN REGARDS TO STABILITY, ALLOWING AN EASY CONSTRUCTION OF EACH ELEMENT AND THE FOLLOWING PLACING OF THE TRUSS. THE BEAMS AND PILLARS HAVE A VARIABLE GEOMETRY, ADAPTING EACH SECTION TO ITS CORRESPONDING WORKLOAD. ITS SHAPE IS OPTIMIZED AS A RESULT, LOOKING LIKE ITS BENDING MOMENTUM DIAGRAM. THE SHAPE OF THE COVER IS A SURFACE OF DOUBLE CURVATURE, LINED IN CELLULAR POLYCARBONATE PANELS WHICH ADAPT TO THIS SORT OF SURFACE. THIS LOCATION CREATES THE NEED OF A VISION OF THE COMPLEX AT THE SPEED OF A MOVING VEHICLE, RESOLVED IN AN URBAN FAÇADE OF A GREAT SCALE. THE EQUIPMENT BUILDING IS SITUATED IN THE CENTER OF THE COMPLEX, PERPENDICULAR TO THE MOTORWAY AND WITH AN ENTRANCE AT THE LEVEL OF THE STREET, HIGHER THAN THE GAME COURTS. HERE ARE THE CONTROL AREA (ORGANIZATION AND ADMINISTRATION) AND THE REST OF THE CENTER'S ROOMS. THE STRATEGY OF THE BUILDING CONSISTS OF CREATING A SLIGHTLY INCLINED BUILDING, ENABLING AN EASY EVACUATION AND RECOVERY OF WATER FROM THE SHOWERS AND RAIN, AND ALSO OFFERING A HIGHER FAÇADE VISIBLE FROM THE MOTORWAY. IT IS A VERY LIGHT BUILDING WITH A STEEL STRUCTURE AND WALLS FORMED OF INDUSTRIAL ELEMENTS, WITH AN EASY MAINTENANCE AND REPOSITION DUE TO AN ASSEMBLY METHOD USING LIGHTWEIGHT CONSTRUCTION ALMOST EXCLUSIVELY. LANDSCAPE OPENINGS, ALONG ITS FULL LENGTH ALLOW A VISION OF THE GAME COURTS IN EVERY MOMENT. THE FAÇADES TURN INTO A KEY ELEMENT OF THE BUILDING, WITH A HIGH TRANSPARENCY AND VARIABLE TONALITY, DEPENDING OF THE SUNLIGHT AND TIME OF THE DAY. AT NIGHT THE BUILDING TRANSFORMS INTO A GREAT LAMP, OFFERING A GLOBAL UNITARY AND RECOGNIZABLE VIEW OF THIS AREA OF THE CITY. THIS BUILDING COMPLETES A COMPLEX STARTED IN 1990 WITH THE MUNICIPAL GARAGE OF CAN CABANYES (SOLDEVILA ARQTES.). DUE TO ITS PRESENCE ON THE MOTORWAY AND ITS UNIQUE GEOMETRY, THE BUILDING TURNS INTO AN URBAN REFERENCE.

IT ADOPTS THE CHARACTER OF AN OPEN SPACE ALTOGETHER, WITH A SINGULAR GREAT ROOF STRUCTURE OF AN URBAN SCALE. ITS DESIGN FOLLOWS THREE MAIN PRINCIPLES: THE URBAN FABRIC, THE LINE OF THE MOTORWAY AND THE COURSE OF THE RIVER. THE STEPPED PLANT BOXES AND THE ENTRANCE STAIRCASES FOLLOW THE DIRECTION OF THE URBAN FABRIC, THE DIFFERENT DISTANCES BETWEEN THE PILLARS SUPPORTING THE SLAB ADAPT TO THE SHAPE OF THE RONDA, WHILE THE VISIBLE ELEMENTS SUCH AS THE PERGOLAS AND SPORTS FIELDS ADAPT TO THE COURSE OF THE RIVER. THE COMPLEX COMPOSITION RESPONDS TO A DIRECTIONAL AND ASYMMETRIC ORGANIZATIONAL SYSTEM, WHICH COMES FROM THE RELATION BETWEEN PUBLIC SPACE AND SPEED. IT COULD BE INTERPRETED AS A FAÇADE TO THE CITY OR THE RIVER FRONT, WITH TWO MAIN URBAN POINTS OF REFERENCE: THE PERGOLAS AND THE GREAT AVENUE ACTING AS A BALCONY OVERLOOKING THE RIVER. THE ROOF FOR THE PERGOLAS, WORKING AS A GREAT SHADE IS FORMED BY TWO SHEETS SUPPORTED BY A SERIES OF TRIANGULAR METALLIC TRUSSES, SUPPORTED BY BIG CYLINDRICAL PILLARS. THE UPPER SHEET IS ALMOST HORIZONTAL AND SERVES TO PARTIALLY BLOCK THE SUNLIGHT, WHILE THE LOWER, INCLINED TOWARDS THE RIVER, PROTECTS FROM THE RAIN. WHEN BOTH ARE PUT TOGETHER, THEY ACT AS A LIGHT DIFFUSER, WITH DIFFERENT LIGHT QUALITIES AND TONES. THE REST OF THE AUXILIARY BUILDINGS (CHANGING ROOMS, BAR, GYMNASIUM) ARE TREATED IN A DOMESTIC SCALE, NEVER COMPETING WITH THE CHARACTER OF THE PERGOLAS.

FOUNTAIN AND URBAN PERGOLA AT THE CANYELLES PARK BARCELONA
THIS INTERVENTION IS LOCATED IN THE PARK OF SERRA MARTÍ IN NOU BARRIS, BARCELONA. THE PROJECT, DESIGNED TOGETHER WITH PEDRO BARRAGÁN, ARCHITECT, OF THE TECHNICAL SERVICE OF NOU BARRIS, AND THE ENGINEERS STEYCO, CONSISTED OF TRANSFORMING A ROMANTIC FOUNTAIN INTO A FOUNTAIN WHICH WOULD ACT AS A REFERENCE POINT AND IDENTITY, AND CONSTRUCTING A PERMANENT PERGOLA AND STAGE FOR THE NEIGHBORHOOD POPULAR HAPPENINGS. FROM THE START OF THE PROJECT, IT IS PRESENTED AS A STRONG GEOMETRIC OBJECT, IN CONTRAST TO THE ORGANIC AND SINUOUS SHAPES OF THE PARK AND ITS NATURE. AN ESSENTIAL SAFETY REQUIREMENT WAS TO PROTECT THE HYDRAULIC EQUIPMENT AND LIGHTS OF THE FOUNTAIN. ALL THE EQUIPMENT, SERVICES AND ORNAMENTAL LIGHTS ARE INSERTED IN A GREAT STAINLESS STEEL CONTAINER (30X3X1 METERS) SUSPENDED 3 METERS ABOVE GROUND LEVEL. TO REDUCE THE VISUAL IMPACT OF THIS PRISM, IT IS LIFTED ON A SERIES OF INCLINED THIN PILLARS WHICH ARE APPARENTLY DISORDERED AND WITH NO CLEAR GEOMETRY. THE HYDRAULIC EQUIPMENT PROPELS AND MAKES THE WATER DANCE, WHICH IS THEN COLLECTED ON ITS PERIMETER AND FALLS AS A WATER SURFACE RESEMBLING A WATERFALL. THE SOUND OF WATER MASKS THE SOUND OF TRAFFIC OF THE BOULEVARD IN FRONT OF IT. THIS WATER DANCE IS COMPLEMENTED BY AN ORNAMENTAL LIGHT SYSTEM, ALTOGETHER WORKING TO THE SAME TUNE. THE PERGOLA IS LOCATED OVER AN EXISTING FACILITY, WITH TWO CLEARLY DIFFERENT AREAS. THE SHADE OF THE WOODEN BEAMS ADDS QUALITY TO THE PUBLIC SPACE AND AT THE SAME TIME BECOMES A FIXED STAGE ON ITS LOWER PART TO HOLD ANY SORT OF PERFORMANCES. THE SELF-SUSTAINING ARCADES LEAN ON THE FACILITY THROUGH A LINE OF BENCHES WHICH EVENLY DISTRIBUTE ITS WEIGHT TO PREVENT ITS PERFORATION.

HOUSE AND STUDIO TIANA
THE HOUSE IS LOCATED ON THE SOUTH SLOPE OF THE MARINA MOUNTAIN CHAIN, AT 260 M OF ELEVATION, BETWEEN THE BARCELONÈS AND THE MARESME. FROM ITS POSITION YOU HAVE A PRIVILEGED OVERVIEW OF THE BARCELONA PLAIN, FROM THE MONTJUÏC MOUNTAIN TO THE EL MASNOU. THE HOUSE SETS ON THE REMAINING SPOT OF LAND, THAT DOESN’T NEED MUCH EXCAVATION. THE BUILD AREA STANDS BETWEEN, THE FOREST REGULATION LINE, THE CLIFF LINE AND THE LINE DISTANCE TO THE NEIGHBORS. THE HOUSE FACES THE GOOD VIEWS, ORIENTED SOUTH, SOUTH-EAST AND PROTECTED FROM THE NORTH AND FROM THE NORTH-EAST WINDS. THE CONSTRUCTION FORMS A V SHAPE WITH TWO BODIES UNDERNEATH A UNIQUE ROOF CREATING AND OUTSIDE PROTECTED AREA FROM THE WINDS. HABITABLE UNITS THERE ARE TWO RECTANGULAR UNITS BUILT, 14 X 4,20 X 5 METERS. (LONG, WIDTH., HEIGHT). EVERY UNIT HAS THE NORTHERN, AND THE NORTH-EASTERN FACADES WITH THE MINIMUM OPENINGS POSSIBLE. THERE ARE ONLY 3 THIN LONG WINDOWS TO ILLUMINATE AND VENTILATE. AT THE OTHER SIDE THE SOUTHERN-AND SOUTH-EASTERN FACADE HAS THE MAXIMUM OPENINGS POSSIBLE, FACING THE GOOD VIEWS. THE TWO HABITABLE UNITS ARE BUILD, TO BE ABLE TO USE IN ALL SORT OF WAYS. IN THE INTERIOR THERE ARE THE MINIMUM FIXED ELEMENTS TO HAVE THE MAXIMUM FLEXIBILITY TO ADAPT THE USE. THE ONLY FIXED ELEMENTS ARE THE TECHNICAL WALL THAT CENTRALIZES THE INSTALLATION EQUIPMENT (WATER, GAS, AND WASTE PIPE). TO ONE SIDE IT IS SET THE KITCHEN, AND THE OTHER THE BATHROOM CLOSED BY AN OTHER FIXED ELEMENT, THE STAIRCASE. WITH THESE FEW ELEMENTS THE FINAL INTERIOR ORGANIZATION DEPENDS ON THE FURNITURE AND SLIDING ELEMENTS. BUILDING SYSTEM IT CONSISTS ON A COMPLETELY DRY SYSTEM, FROM WHAT IT IS USED ON THE FACTORIES BUILDINGS. A STEEL SCREWED STRUCTURE LIKE A “MECANO”, BASED ON STANDARD PROFILES JOINED TOGETHER. THE FACADES ARE BASED ON BIG PREFAB ELEMENTS. THE FAÇADE IS DESIGNED WITH TWO SKINS. THE OUTSIDE SKIN IS DONE BY STEEL SANDWICH PANELS AND ALUMINUM CARPENTRY. THE INTERIOR SKIN, AFTER AN AIR CHAMBER THAT CONTAINS THE VERTICAL STRUCTURE, LARGE WOODEN PREFAB PANELS IS USED. THE SLABS ARE BASED ON THE PRINCIPAL STEEL STRUCTURE AN A LARGE WOODEN PREFAB PANELS. THE DEFINITION OF THE INTERIOR IS BASED ON THE "IKEA DO IT YOURSELF” CONCEPT, WHERE THE WHOLE INTERIOR CAN BE DONE BY THE INHABITANTS, BASED ON EASY CHANGEABLE ELEMENTS. ONE OF THE BASIC ISSUES IS THAT THE HOUSE IS NEVER FINISHED, BUT A SEQUENCE OF STABLES PARENTHESIS OF TIME IN THE EVER TRANSFORMING AND CHANGING INTERIOR LIFE OF THE HOUSE. EVERY SPACE OF THE HOUSE HAS TO BE ABLE TO BE ADAPTED TO THE NEW NECESSITIES THAT EVERY MOMENT REQUIRES BASE DON A DRY AND NOT TRAUMATIC CONSTRUCTION.
