The science that studies hair. Before anything else, we must know the terms used for hair. The anatomy of skin is divided into: Epidermis: The outermost layer of skin;
HAIR ANATOMY
Dermis: Layer located between the Skin and the Hypodermis. The dermis is responsible for the resistance and elasticity of the skin. It consists of connective tissue (collagen and elastic fibers wrapped by a fundamental substance), blood vessels and lymphatics, nerves and nerve endings. The pilosebaceous follicles and sweat glands originating in the epidermis, and also glands located in the dermis. When the subject is hair, the dermis is the most important part of the skin; Hypodermis: The deepest layer of skin.

Origin of the word: From thricos in Greek (hair) + logos (study). Study of human hair.
GLANDS
Sweat and Sebaceous Glands found in the dermis are of great importance. There are two types of Sweat Glands; Eccrine: which exist all over the body and produce perspiration and eliminate it directly to the skin; Apocrine: found mainly in the armpits, genitals and around the nipples. They are responsible for the characteristic odor of sweat when their secretion undergoes decomposition by bacteria. Sebaceous Glands produce skin oils. They are found in greater numbers on the face, scalp and upper body. These glands eliminate its secretion in hair follicles. There are sebaceous glands on the palms and soles. During puberty, there is an increased secretion of sebum by the sebaceous glands, stimulated by androgens, which explains the high incidence of acne in teenagers. Androgens stimulate the development of the sebaceous glands and sebum secretion, while estrogens suppress the secretion of sebum.
HAIR ORIGIN:
The hair has a stem that projects to the surface of the skin and a root represented by the area that is immersed in the skin, known as the hair follicle. Hair follicles are attached to the Sebaceous Glands and an erecting muscle. Hair is spread almost across the entire skin surface except for the palms and soles of the feet. They may be minuscule and thin (Lanugo) or thick and strong (terminal).

PHYSICAL COMPOSITION OF HAIR Hair is made up of cuticles (scales), cortex (cork) and medulla (medullary canal). The cortex is made up of keratinized cells. Within it, we find Melanin and keratin chains. The Cortical cell is composed of protofibrils, macrofibrils and microfibrils. The cortex is the most important part of hair. Within the keratin, cystic links occur that are responsible for the strength of the hair. These bonds are sensitive to chemical agents, in particular Reducers (Guanidine, thioglycolate, lithium hydroxide, sodium hydroxide and ammonium hydroxide) and oxidants (bleaching agents and colorings). The cuticle is the protective surface of hair and has the function of protecting the keratin fibers in the cortex. It is divided into Epicuticle, Exocuticle and Endocuticle. When the cuticles are not well sealed the color fades quickly, the hair has traction when brushing and hardly shines. The medulla is central part of hair and consists of numerous dead cells. In some people they don’t even exist, assuming they have no real importance. Therefore they are also called “graveyard cells”. The formation of hair takes place in the dermal papilla, composed of specialized fibroblasts located in the follicle base, responsible for controlling the number of matrix cells, and therefore, the size of the hair. At birth, the human body is covered with about 5 million hair follicles; with no new follicles being formed after birth.
HAIR LIFE CYCLE The hair life cycle is divided into three phases: • Anagen or Anagenetic: a growth phase that lasts for 2 to 5 years; • Catagen or Catagenetic: interruption of growth phase that lasts about 3 weeks; • Telogen or Telogenetic: Fall phase that lasts from 3 to 4 months. The scalp has approximately 100 to 150,000 strands of hair that follow the aforementioned renewal cycle, in which approximately 60 to 100 strands fall daily, which will later originate new strands.
COLORIMETRY Hair color is determined genetically. According to the nature of melanin, its quantity and how it is distributed in the hair can originate different colors. There are 3 main types of melanin: Eumelanin with a “bluish” color tone Pheomelanin with a “yellowish” color tone Tricosiderina with a “reddish” color tone

WHAT IS COLORIMETRY? Colorimetry is the study of color, developed by researchers from various fields, especially physics. Its observations are, in their majority, regarding the ability that the human eye and mind have to identify different types of colors. The phenomenon of color in fact, is only possible from a beam of light, whether natural or artificial. Coloring hair is the search for new images of beauty; to become completely transformed through a simple act; it is the freedom to choose different colors and shines. The change of color is more than an image that is reversed; it is a personality statement.
COLORS Primary
These are the purest colors of the solar spectrum, also called fundamental colors. They are: Blue, Red and Yellow.
Secondary
Colors originated from the mixture of two primary colors in equal parts. They are: Violet, Orange and Green.
NOTES
• From violet, we obtain other colors, such as Silver. • The pigments of primary colors (yellow, blue and red) are the main additives present in any coloring.

COLORING TYPES OF COLORING:
Temporary Coloring:
These products are truly temporary and usually sold as rinse-colorings. They are normally used to cover or “disguise� white hair, to give a subtle and discreet (or even strong) tone to your natural hair color. Temporary coloring will not change a dark tone of hair to a lighter one, but they may add depth and beauty to lighter hair. Temporary colorings do not last very long. They can be found in a wide variety of products that add subtle tone to hair such as hair masks with a toner effect, controlled application of spray colorings and even coloring shampoos and conditioners, to add depth and longevity to dyed hair.
Semi-permanent Coloring:
Semi-permanent coloring are formulated so as to deposit coloring to hair and do not have bleaching effect. Its formula, when mixed with a revealing emulsion, promotes a slight opening. Semi-permanent colorings do not penetrate into the hair cortex and usually last 6 to 8 weeks, being gradually removed as the hair is washed.
Vegetable Coloring:
Natural organic substances such as henna and chamomile are more ancient dyes. These dyes are called plant dyes and are deposited on the hair strands.
Progressive Coloring:
They do not contain ammonia. They are called progressive because their shades develop on a daily basis, with successive applications. Its use is recommended for people who wish gradual change without impact.
Permanent coloring:
Permanent hair dyes are developed to penetrate the hair shaft and deposit color directly into the cortex. Their formula contains alkalizing agents that, when mixed with the oxidant (hydrogen peroxide), they open the cuticles and allow the color molecules to penetrate the cortex, fixing the pigments.
Oxidant:
The oxidizing emulsion, mixed to the coloring, meets the ammonia. From this mixture its decolorizing function of the natural hair pigments starts, lightening one or more shades in accordance with the oxidant’s strength. Hydrogen peroxide volume

Tinting or Neutralization:
The tinting or neutralization is the process of cleaning unwanted colors. In order to obtain perfect tones we must always have the Oswald Star at hand, which allows us to know the counter color and also the bleached hair (in the case of highlights) at the desired height, for the purpose of tinting is not to lighten the strands. The tinting process is simple and fast. At the sink, we apply the color that will correct the unwanted shade to wet hair, remembering that this color should be mixed with hydrogen peroxide 8 volumes and colors should be at the 7, 8 and 9 height. The lighter colors act as super lighteners and not toners, in other words, they might not perform the desired cleaning and even change the shade of the strands. IMPORTANT: WE SHOULDN’T TINT THE HAIR AT THE CHAIR SINCE THE TINTING PROCESS HAS TO BE FAST SO AS NOT TO CHANGE THE HAIR BACKGROUND OR OBTAIN EVEN MORE UNWANTED COLORS.
White Hair:
Due to aging, white hair has no more melanin (natural color pigment) and is very porous. These facts, coupled with the effects of reflection and refraction of light make hair colorless and opaque. Using the same coloring for white and natural hair, we observe that white hair perfectly reflects the cosmetic shading, but retain its low shine, while natural hair retain all the splendor of the applied shade. This different shine can sometimes be the cause that makes us think of insufficient coverage of the cosmetic color on the hair. The percentage of white hair is defined as follows:

The Secret of Coverage and White hair
The secret is to use the correct technique. Covering 100% of white hair is not an easy task. It is essential to properly deposit the coloring on the strands and always respect the measurement of the mixture and the pause time established by the manufacturer. Note: In coloring, the amount of primary color (base) will always be used in accordance with the percentage of existing white hair.
Root retouching: Always pay attention to the white strands to achieve a uniform color. After applying it throughout the root, spread it massaging it with your fingers; wait for the pause time indicated on the package, and after that time, apply it to the rest of the strands (middle and ends). Finish by allowing the coloring to act for five or ten minutes. This will be enough time to renew and standardize the color. The amount of coloring required for the process is also very important. Often, only one tube of color will not be enough for a uniform application.
pH INFORMATION pH: Is the symbol for a physical-chemical measure the amount of hydrogen, which indicates the acidity, neutrality or alkalinity of a solution. Observe the table:
Human hair is rated at a pH of 5.5, which we consider a neutral pH (for hair). Therefore, any product applied to hair with a pH above 5.5 will have an alkaline action and promote an opening of the cuticles. As well as any product applied to hair with a pH below 5.5 will have an acidic action and promote a closing (sealing) of the cuticles. Note: The higher the increase in pH in hair, the greater the opening of the cuticles.

Preparation of the Mixture Proportion: Mix in the
proportion of 1:1.5, in other words, 60g of Radiance Plus Color with 90 ml of OX Radiance Plus in the desired volume (except for Flash Blond Precision series Super Bleaches). Mix until you obtain a homogenous cream. Apply with a brush to dry hair.

Flash Blond and Blond Series of Super Bleaches:
Mix in the proportion of 1:3; or 60g of Radiance Color Plus Coloring Flash Blond or Blond Precision with 180 ml of OX Radiance Plus with 40 volumes (12%). Mix until you obtain a homogenous cream. Apply with a brush to dry hair.
First Coloring: Split the hair into four parts and start at the top. Apply the paste (coloring + oxidant) throughout the length and ends of the hair, keeping a distance of 1cm to 2cm from the roots. Wait for 10 to 20 minutes. After the pause time, apply to the root and wait for another 30 minutes. Note: The time may vary according to the volume and the desired bleaching. Root Touch-up: Split the hair into four parts and start at
the top. Apply the paste (coloring + oxidant) to the roots. Wait for 20 to 30 minutes. Before rinsing, emulsify the hair by adding water in small quantities; spread it in the hair, massaging it well. Leave it for 10 minutes - this will be the time so the color can become uniform.
Rinse: After the pause time (see informative table inside the cartridge), rinse the hair thoroughly. Apply the Power Dose Radiance Plus massaging the hair. Rinse and finish as desired.
