...Lynn Gilbert’s photographs make you feel as though you are stepping through a door into another world... Nagihan Genc, Director of the Ahmed Adnan Saygun Arts Center of the Ahmed Adnan Saygun Arts Center. The exhibition will run at the Ahmed Adnan Saygun Arts Center, Mithatpa!a Caddesi No: 1087, Güzelyalı - Izmir, Turkey, November 12 - 30, 2013, Weekdays & Saturday: 09:00 - 17:30. This series of images captures a part of our culture that has never been photographed before. Gilbert’s subjects include modest and luxurious spaces, in which she layers depth, pattern, texture, and detail to achieve images of elegance and harmony. Through objects of daily use and possessions handed down through generations, the presence of the homeowners is felt whether they are in the portraits or not. Lynn Gilbert’s body of work spans decades and continents. Like Rembrandt and Vermeer, Gilbert creates a combination of the illusory and the real with natural light through her camera lens. The freshness of Gilbert’s vision makes viewers suspend reality for the moment and forget these homes exist in a world
surrounded by the Arab Spring, as they step into a world that is mysterious, powerful, magical and timeless. Lynn Gilbert is a widely published photographer based in New York City. Her mid-1970s collection, "Children in Repose" portrays the unique individuality of children from more than 100 New York families of different socio-economic backgrounds. Her book, "Particular Passions: Talks with Women who have Shaped our Times," includes portraits and oral biographies of the most notable women of the late 20th Century -- Julia Child, Billie Jean King, Diana Vreeland, Gloria Steinem and Betty Friedan.
