Admission Standards for Children

Wednesday Night Summertime Basketball

New standards have been issued by the Office of the Chief Coroner to assist lifeguards in maintaining adequate surveillance over the whereabouts and the activities of young bathers while they are inside the pool enclosure.

Our JCC Basketball League takes a break May – September but we don’t put away the Spaldings and Wilsons. Wednesday nights is the best time in the off season to work on your ‘game’ without the pressure of statistics, winning, losing, screaming fans or crazy coaches. Be part of the fun! Summertime pickup ‘ball’ at the ‘J’ is a slam dunk.

• Children ages 8 to 10 are required to pass a swim test in order to swim unsupervised. Children who do not complete the test are required to be directly supervised by a parent or guardian (16+) who is present in the water within arms reach at all times.

April 25 – August 29 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm Free for JCC members $125 NM

• Children under the age of 8 may not be admitted to the swimming pool unless they are accompanied by a parent or guardian (16+) who is in the water within arms reach of the child, with a maximum of two children for each parent or guardian

Lunchtime Basketball Run Hey business guy! Lunchtime is time to forget about the market and the economy. Come down to the ‘J’ and play some ball. Monday & Wednesday 12:00 – 1:00 pm May – September Free for JCC members

Sunday Morning Pick-up Basketball May–September 9:00 am – 11:00 am Free for JCC members

CHILDREN/YOUTH AQUATIC PROGRAMS Lifesaving Society’s Pre–School Program Parent and Tot 1 (3–12 months) Parent and Tot 2 (12–24 months) Parent and Tot 3 (22–36 months) This exciting program structures in-water interaction between parent and child to stress the importance of play in developing waterpositive attitudes and skills. Activities are planned based on the child’s maturity so parents register in the level appropriate for their child’s age.

Preschool A (3–5 yrs) 1:3 We’ll help these little swimmers jump into the water, and learn to float, glide and kick with assistance. They’ll learn the importance of staying “within arms reach” and become comfortable putting their faces in and blowing bubbles.

Preschool B (3–5 yrs) 1:3 These little swimmers will jump in on their own and learn to float, glide and kick with an aid. They’ll learn to put on a lifejacket (Personal Floatation Device) and learn to move safely through the water on their front and back.

Preschool C (3–5 yrs) 1:3 These little swimmers will jump into chest-deep water, learn to float, glide and kick on their own and retrieve an object from the bottom. They’ll gain exposure to deep water and learn the basics of rhythmic breathing.

Preschool D (3–5 yrs) 1:5 These kids are becoming quite the swimmers! They’ll jump into deep water, kick on their front and back, tread water and learn basic front and back crawl. They’ll learn the importance of swimming with a buddy and wearing a PFD/lifejacket.

Rent our Gymnasium

Preschool E

Our air conditioned gymnasium with a suspended hard wood floor is available for basketball and volleyball rental.

(3–5 yrs) 1:5 These advanced preschoolers will learn how to react if they fall unexpectedly into deep water. They’ll develop breath control, master short swims using front and back crawl, and begin developing whip kick.

For more information contact Jon at (613) 798-9818 ext. 267 • jbraun@jccottawa.com

In an effort to keep our pool safe and properly maintained we must periodically close the pool for minor repairs. We will do our best to notify our members in advance and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
