BRITISH residents are reportedly facing a 'summer holiday crisis' because all hotels and resorts on the Spanish coasts are fully booked for July and August. The run on sunshine breaks outside of term time has multiplied this year, because many Brits feel other beach destinations are not safe. Turkey has suffered attacks in Ankara and Istanbul – some distance from the traditional holiday resort towns along the west and south coast, but near enough to put UK tourists off. The terrorist massacres in Tunisia – in the capital, Tunis, and the seaside town of Sousse – mean European tourism has now disappeared in the country, and Egypt's holiday belt in Sharm El-Sheikh on the Sinai peninsula has fallen from favour after a plane full of Russian tourists was shot down by DAESH. And this has led to a tourism boom in Spain and Portugal, with UK tour operators warning they may have no offers left by this time next week. Britain has the shortest school summer holidays in Europe, and although Spain and its neighbouring destinations used to benefit from UK nationals filling up their resorts and hotels from early spring until at least October, UK laws have changed and parents are no longer allowed to take their kids out of school for a week's or a fortnight's holiday. Travel agencies take advantage of this by hiking prices out of term time, and working parents have to queue up for time off in late July and August, or over May half term, since there is no other time of year they can take the whole family on holiday. Low-cost airlines said their bookings for flights to Turkey, Egypt and Tunisia have
plummeted. Irish carrier Ryanair says its market for German holidaymakers travelling to Turkey is one of its largest after the UK-Spain connections, but that after 10 German tourists lost their lives in a terror attack in Istanbul recently, one in four of them has decided to avoid the country. They are looking at destinations in Spain and Portugal instead, Ryanair says. The most popular areas of the country for summer breaks are, as usual, the Balearic and Canary Islands and the coasts of Andalucía and Alicante, particularly the Costa del Sol (Málaga province) in Andalucía and the town of Benidorm (Alicante province), and to a lesser extent, the Costa Brava (Girona province). As yet, the coasts of the Region of Murcia and much of the provinces of Valencia and Castellón, or Tarragona and Barcelona in Catalunya, all of which enjoy the same weather in summer as the more typical British favourites, are relatively untouched by UK tourists – despite being near airports and with excellent facilities. For that reason, they tend to be cheaper. Those who want sunshine but are happy with just a swimming pool rather than a beach will find plenty of hot weather, hotels and even cheaper breaks in the land-locked region of Extremadura and southern Castilla-La Mancha, and the inland provinces of Andalucía. thinkspain

Rain, wind and snow leave 10,000 homes without electricity OVER 10,000 homes
in the region of Aragón were left without electricity last night, and 2,000 of these still have no power. Wind, rain and snow led to supply cuts overnight, mainly in the province of Teruel where 9,644 homes were left in the dark. In the Navarra region, to the north-east, the motorway was shut after a high-voltage pylon was blown down onto it, which cut off the electricity in the towns of Lekunberri, Larraun and Arakil. So far it has taken far longer than anticipated to get residents in Teruel and Navarra reconnected, since the thick snow was not expected to fall at such low altitudes and left authorities and Civil Protection volunteers unprepared. Snow-ploughs had to be brought in to clear the road before engineers from the electricity board, Endesa, could reach the site of the breakdown. In the meantime, generators have been installed to ensure most of those affected have at least a basic supply for cooking and heating. Main highways and B-roads across the province of Teruel – popular with skiers at this time of year – were
shut off, including those in Alfambra, Calamocha, Camarena de la Sierra, Cedrillas, Mosqueruela, Noguera, Ejulve, Montalbán, Linares de Mora, Cañizar del Olivar and Teruel city itself. Elsewhere in the region, the A-1504 in Miedes de Aragón (Zaragoza province) and the A-136 in Broto (Huesca province) were closed. A total of 36 roads in Aragón still need snow chains, including the interprovincial highways, the N-211 in Caminreal and the N-420 in Perales de Alframbra and Utrillas, and most of the B-roads in the province of Huesca. The northern part of the Ebro river is expected to rise and possibly even burst its banks in the next day or two as the snow finally melts.

Vueling offers new and more frequent flight routes this summer
LOW-COST national airline Vueling plans to open up 48 routes this summer across the country, including a MálagaValencia line and one between Sevilla and Alicante. A flight from Sevilla to A Coruña, in the far north-western region of Galicia will run five times a week, and the Alicante-Sevilla trip will run twice-weekly. An Asturias-Sevilla route will run between two and three times a week, and a twice-weekly flight will connect Sevilla with Ibiza from this April, increasing to every day in August. Another twice-a-week flight will link up Sevilla with Lanzarote, in the Canary Islands, and the Sevilla-Valencia and Sevilla-Menorca flights, starting in June, will take off three times a week. Seven flights a day will connect Sevilla with Barcelona, two a day with Bilbao, and one a day with Gran Canaria, Tenerife, and Palma de Mallorca. International routes due to opening with Vueling in summer run from Sevilla to Amsterdam three times a week, to Lyon and Nantes twice a week and Paris-Charles de Gaulle twice a day - starting in April, as will the connection to Rome Fiumicino, which will run four times a week. Three-times-daily flights from Granada to Barcelona, and five-times-weekly trips from Granada to Mallorca will open this summer, and a daily flight from Jerez de la Frontera (Cádiz province) and from Almería will run to Barcelona. From Málaga airport this summer, national flights run by Vueling include five-times-daily routes to Barcelona, twice a day to Bilbao and once a day to Gran Canaria. Other, less-frequent
national destinations from Málaga are Asturias three times a week, running to four times weekly in July and August; Fuerteventura once a week from April; Ibiza five times weekly from June; Lanzarote, Valencia and Menorca twice a week, although only in July and August for the latter; and six times a week between Málaga and Mallorca, Tenerife and Santiago de Compostela in the north-western region of Galicia. Foreign destinations from Málaga with Vueling will include daily flights to Amsterdam and Rome Fiumicino; twice-weekly flights to Bourgogne, Lyon, Toulouse, Hamburg and Munich; once a week to Moscow and Saint Petersburg, but only in July and August; four-times-weekly flights to Nantes and Cardiff; six times a week to Copenhagen; twice a day to ParisOrly; and three times a week to Zurich, starting from April. Vueling offers flights to UK destinations Cardiff (from Mallorca, Málaga, Barcelona and Alicante), Birmingham, Manchester and Edinburgh (from Barcelona and Alicante), Leeds, Liverpool, Newcastle and London-Luton (from Barcelona only), London City and Gatwick (from A Coruña, Asturias, Bilbao, Barcelona, Fuerteventura, Sevilla, Lanzarote and Santiago de Compostela) and London Heathrow (from A Coruña, Bilbao and Barcelona), but multiple destinations can be chosen, meaning more connections are available with a change of flight. thinkspain

Two residents of La Seu d’Urgell in Catalonia face up to five years in jail after photographing a dead girl as she lay by the roadside following a traffic accident and posting it to social media. The teenage girl, a student at Joan Brudeiu high school, died in a car accident on January 22nd, according to a report in La Vanguardia. Her grieving parents were then horrified to discover that images of their dead daughter had been posted to
social media and reported it to the Catalan police force Mossos d’Esquadra. Police were able to trace the two responsible and have questioned them. The pair face charges for “invasion of privacy” under article 193.3 of Spain’s Criminal Code, which states that taking photographs without consent can be punishable with two to five years in prison. thelocalk
The Queen of Spain's favourite designer Felipe Varela made a stunning comeback to his native Madrid this week with a daring collection that mixed peekaboo and plunging necklines with metal and Swarovski but in his trademark impeccable style. Varela first took part in the Madrid Fashion Week in 1996 but stayed away from the city's catwalks for 14 years and his return was the highlight of the event. The intensely private designer is the preferred couturier of Queen Letizia, a former journalist who has donned his suits and gowns several times - a fact painstakingly followed by glossies and newspapers the world over. The British press noted this month that the 43-year-old perennially chic royal sported a snazzy red Varela skirt suit for a fourth time recently. She had first worn it on an official trip to New York in 2009. The head turners from Varela's latest showing included a white wool crepe jacket with an eye-popping red fox fur collar and clingy decollete gowns with bold thigh-high slits that recreated the glamour of Hollywood's golden era. Peekaboo net jackets were embellished with metal and fur and lingerie-style
dresses with 1960s hemlines with an aluminium look - harking back to Paco Rabanne creations from that epoch. The 2016-2017 autumn-winter "Crystal Army" collection also has an abundance of glittering baubles - 185,000 of them and mostly Swarovski - but does not descend into bling. That is one of the reasons why he is favoured by the intensely stylish Spanish royal, whose wardrobe is keenly followed by fashionistas around the world. "It is very difficult to separate the classical and very chic" style of the queen and Varela, said Laura Luceno, a professor at Madrid's Higher School of Fashion Design. The queen became a new royal fashion icon after her husband's June 19th 2014 coronation, featuring in global glossies as a style idol and trendsetter. She appears to champion mainly Spanish designers who base their houses in the country rather than those who operate from abroad, like Balenciaga, Manolo Blahnik and Paco Rabanne. "Letizia is also drawn to him because he is discreet," said Luceno of the designer who shuns smart parties and can slip incognito through the streets of Madrid. Varela, who divides his time between Madrid and Paris - where he had worked for Dior, Lanvin and Mugler - appeared at the end of his Madrid show, dressed in a black suit and sporting sunglasses. thelocal

Barcelona and the refugees who never came
Half a year after Barcelona launched a municipal plan to welcome refugees fleeing wars in places like Syria and Iraq, Spain's second largest city is still waiting for them to arrive. "This fills us with rage," Barcelona Mayor Ada Colau, a former activist born out of the anti-austerity Indignados protest movement, told AFP. "The city is ready at the technical level, all our services are ready and residents are waiting with open arms. But they don't arrive." While EU interior ministers gathered in Brussels this week to try to hammer out a unified response to the biggest migration crisis in the bloc's history, the city detailed its own "Barcelona Refuge City" plan. When Colau announced the initiative in August, hundreds of residents of the Mediterranean, seaside city flooded the city hall with e-mails volunteering to help. The plan was quickly followed by other cities across the country including Madrid, the Mediterranean port of Valencia and Cadiz in the southwest. It had initially agreed to accept just 2,749. "But since then, just 18 have arrived (in the whole of Spain), a ridiculous figure," said Pascale Coissard, spokeswoman in the northeastern region of Catalonia for the country's Commission for Refugee Aid. The agency has for months prepared to receive a chunk of the over one million people who have arrived in Europe fleeing from Syria,
Iraq, Afghanistan or Eritrea. It boosted the number of places able to welcome refugees in Catalonia -the capital of which is Barcelona -- to 41 from ten and will shortly open 50 more. The agency has also reinforced its medical and psychological services and it is training municipalities in the region how best to deal with newly arrived refugees. "But we are working blindly, without knowing when they will arrive, how they will arrive or how many will arrive." The main problem is that Spain's central government "is not providing any information," said Ignasi Calbo, coordinator of the "Barcelona Refuge City" plan, for which 10.5 million euros ($11.6 million) has been set aside. And Brussels and European nations are also dragging their feet. In late September, European leaders agreed on a plan to relocate 160,000 migrants from the countries they're flooding into -- mainly Greece and Italy. But it has so far relocated just 600 -- an unacceptable situation for Colau. "In the summer we will go to the beach for a swim, in the same sea where each week people die because Europe is not providing safe passage," she said. "And while it does not, it will be an accomplice to these human trafficking mafias and boat sinkings." Read more thelocal

Fallas burst into action in Valencia with the traditional ‘cridà’ VALENCIA’S famous Fallas festival has officially kicked off with the cridà, or call to the city to open the fiestas filling the streets with tens of thousands of locals and visitors. The festival, which marks St Joseph’s Day, or San José (March 19), which is also Father’s Day in Spain, exploded into life last night (Sunday) with the first mascletà, or gunpowder banger display in the city hall square. Monuments the height of blocks of flats made from colourfully-painted papier mâché feature caricatures, often of famous people including Royalty, celebrities and politicians, and are designed to send up current affairs. On the night of March 19, they are set fire to one by one, starting with the monument or falla placed last and finishing with the winner, from which the fallera mayor, or fiesta queen will have rescued her favourite figurine, or ninot, to save from the flames. Each falla has a children’s version beside it, smaller and themed on cartoons or fairy tales rather than politics and the news, and each ‘adult’ and children’s falla has its own fiesta queen. The fallas each have a marquée, known as a casal, where fiesta group subscribers eat, drink and party around the clock, barely catching four or five hours sleep during the entire festival. As well as the falleras mayores, numerous other girls and women in
traditional, colourful Valencian regional costume join the parades and parties, and are known as the Corte de Honor, or the fiesta queens’ entourage. This year’s fallera mayor, Alicia Moreno and the children’s fallera mayor Sofía Soler were presented from the top of the Serrano twin towers along with mayor Joan Ribó (Compromís), who gave the opening speech. The two falleras mayores gave their own speeches, stating what a great honour it was to be fiesta queens in the city of Valencia – the main focus of the Fallas, although it is celebrated in towns and villages throughout the province and even in the north of that of Alicante. Alicia Moreno greeted the public in several languages, given that the Fallas attracts tourists from all over the world in the same way as the famous Feria de Abril (‘April Fair’) and Semana Santa Easter parades in Sevilla are known internationally. Ribó concluded his speech with the symbolic act of presenting the keys to the city to the two falleras mayores. The fiesta will not get properly under way until Tuesday, March 1, when the falla monuments are unveiled and the casales open. After this, mascletaes will take place in the city hall square daily at 14.00hrs, presided over by Alicia, Sofía and the mayor. thinkspain.com
Women hiking in snow found frozen to death
TWO women lost out walking in the snow in the Morella area of Castellón have been found frozen to death, but their male companion was rescued alive and taken to hospital with hypothermia. The group called the emergency 112 hotline at 23.30hrs on Saturday night, saying they had set off on the so-called Ruta de set pobles ('seven village route') in the Tinença de Benifassà mountain area, and were lost. Rescue services lost contact with them afterwards, believed to be because their mobile phones had run out of battery or they were in an area with no signal. Three snowploughs set off to get to Castell
de Cabres, which was completely snowed in, but after the walkers had not been found by the early hours, a mountain rescue team was sent out. The extreme weather and the dark meant they were unable to continue the search, which was restarted at first light Sunday. A rescue helicopter, two fire brigades, a Civil Protection squad canine unit, three emergency snow-removal teams and two mountain rescue brigades were drafted in, along with the Local Police and Guardia Civil. They were traced at around 16.15hrs, half an hour and only 400 metres later, but were found to have died of cold.

How to Treat Different Kinds of Headaches
Have a t h r o b b i n g headache? It can be difficult to diagnose head pain, especially if there's not an obvious culprit (such as too many drinks the night before). Use this step-by-step chart to find out what's really causing your headache and determine if you're suffering from a tension headache, cluster headache, migraine, or PMS headache. Tension headache Over-the-counter painkillers—ibuprofen, naproxen—can dull the sensation. But to avoid these headaches, you’ll want to address possible triggers, such as stress, tension in the face and neck muscles, poor posture, or clenching or grinding your teeth. Try stress-reduction techniques such as meditation, biofeedback, and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), says Richard B. Lipton, MD, professor of neurology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and director of the Montefiore Headache Center in New York City. If the headaches strike 15 or more days per month, they’re considered chronic; see your doctor for stronger pain relief and/or prevention meds. Migraine While two or three ibuprofen might stop the throbbing for some people, if you get migraines 15 or more days a month, go to your doctor for bigger guns. Top Rx treatments include a class of drug called triptans, which constrict blood vessels in the brain. Drugs that may help stave off migraines include betablockers, antiseizure medication, antidepressants, calcium channel blockers, and, for chronic migraine only, Botox injections. For natural remedies, coenzyme Q10, vitamin B2, magnesium, and the herbs butterbur and feverfew may help;
check with your doctor before trying them. Then there’s the high-tech stuff: Cefaly, an FDA-approved device that stimulates the trigeminal nerve branches above the eyes to prevent pain, and transcranial magnetic stimulation, which delivers magnetic pulses to the back of the head to relieve migraine with aura. And, of course, it’s crucial to pinpoint and avoid your personal triggers, which might include stress, missed meals, sleep changes, chemicals and preservatives (such as MSG or nitrates) in food and drink, caffeine (too much or less than you’re use to), changing weather patterns, and hormonal flux. Stress-busting methods that make a difference include yoga, mindfulness meditation, CBT, and biofeedback. Cluster headache Cluster headaches aren’t usually linked to triggers—they may be related to abnormalities in the hypothalamus. When they hit, oxygen therapy (inhaling high-flow oxygen through a mask) and injections of the pain medication sumatriptan can stop the agony. Doctors may use meds such as calcium channel blockers and corticosteroids, as well as nerve block injections to ward off future attacks. Do you get headaches before or during your period? You’re not alone. “One of the strongest triggers of migraine headaches is hormonal change, mostly dropping estrogen,” explains Jack Schim, MD. While the exact connection between hormones and headaches isn’t clear, it could have to do with links between estrogen and inflammation, which can contribute to pain. One fix: Birth control. Take the active pills continuously—skip the sugar pill week. “If you don’t get the hormone drop, you don’t get headaches,” notes Lauren Streicher, MD, clinical associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. Not on the pill or don’t want to start? Consider an Rx for low-dose estrogen (a patch, gel, or pill). Use it for up to a week, starting three days before your period. “It’s a much
lower dose of hormone than what’s in the pill, just enough to keep estrogen levels from dropping so precipitously,” says Dr. Streicher. You’ll still get your period, but it will be lighter than usual (bonus!). health.com

HOW TO NEGOTIATE ROUNDABOUTS If you are unsure about the correct way to negotiate roundabouts, here are some simple rules to help you enter and exit roundabouts safely and in the right lane. APPROACHING ROUNDABOUTS It’s important to remember to give way to traffic already on the roundabout. If the roundabout is outside urban areas of towns or cities, keep right. If the roundabout is in a built-up area inside a town or city and the lanes are clearly marked, you should use the lane that best corresponds to the exit you need to take. LEAVING ROUNDABOUTS This causes the most confusion amongst drivers. Which lane to choose? Why do I get beeped at if I’m in the right lane? Drivers must exit roundabouts from the right hand lane, because the only way to leave the roundabout is by turning right. This doesn’t mean we always have to enter the roundabout from the right hand lane. It depends on the exit we need to take. However this simple rule,

Microsoft has started taking orders for a developers' edition of its Hololens augmented reality headset. The test kit will cost $3,000 (£2,160) and will be sent to buyers in March. Augmented reality glasses overlay computer-generated images on the wearer's real-world surroundings, unlike virtual reality which replaces the entire field of vision with images. One expert said augmented reality devices were still at an "experimental" stage. "I don't expect Hololens to be a mass market product due to its pricing," said Piers Harding-Rolls of IHS Technology. "Like the early VR headsets, this will appeal to technology enthusiasts with large amounts of disposable income. "But I think we're a good few years away from compelling consumer AR smart glasses which have the desirable content and are cheap enough to drive a broader interest in the technology." First apps Microsoft has stressed its developers' edition of Hololens is designed for app creators, to encourage the production of software for the device before it is more widely available. The company said consumer availability would follow "further down the line". It also detailed the first seven native programs available for Hololens. Among them are: Skype - for video calling friends and family HoloTour - which lets the wearer look at 360 degree images of world cities HoloStudio - lets developers build 3D objects RoboRaid - a first-person shooting game The device will also run a game called Young Conker - a spin-off of cult hit Conker's Bad Fur Day, which told the story of a foul-mouthed squirrel trying to get home to his girlfriend. A video of Young Conker has been
negatively received by fans of the original game, who have eagerly been awaiting a sequel aimed at mature audiences. Why would you ever do this? This is by far the worst thing that could possibly happen to the Conker franchise," commented one disappointed gamer on YouTube. Microsoft said it had chosen Conker because he was "the right size to believably show up in the player's world" and was "famous for breaking the fourth wall and talking directly to the player". Absent from the list of launch apps was Minecraft, the hugely popular building game, which had featured heavily in Hololens demonstrations and previews. Tech specs Microsoft says Hololens will run as a fully self-contained device running Windows 10, powered by an Intel chip. Wearers see "hologram-style" images overlaying the real world The company says it has developed a unique "holographic processing unit" that can map the wearer's environment and recognise gestures while rendering images at the same time. Gestures, glance and control allow the wearer to interact with the software, and the helmet supports Bluetooth accessories - the first of which is a "clicker" button users can hold. "I think Hololens has the potential to find traction in niche commercial applications where pricing is less of an issue," said Mr Harding-Rolls. "I see consumer AR as more embryonic than VR and still very much at an experimental stage." Bbc.com
in practice, can be more complex. Let us see some examples. 1st EXIT RIGHT Enter roundabout keeping to right hand side lane. Stay in lane until exit is reached. Indicate and exit roundabout. CONTINUING STRAIGHT ON (e.g. 2nd EXIT STRAIGHT AHEAD) Enter roundabout keeping to right hand side lane. Stay in lane until exit is reached. Indicate prior to exit and leave roundabout. TURNING LEFT OR CHANGING DIRECTION (e.g. 3rd OR FINAL EXIT) Enter roundabout keeping to left hand side lane. Stay in lane until you have passed the exit before your turn off, then change lane by indicating right and giving other road users sufficient time to anticipate your manoeuvre. Don’t forget that drivers circulating in the outside lanes have priority, so use your mirrors to ensure you are not blocking them as you change lanes. from EDF how the winning solution meets their stated aim for the competition,” said computer scientist Dr Sue Black OBE. “It is taking me a bit of time to work out how this result will change girls’ perceptions of Stem.” In a tweet, EDF said that while “the aim of #PrettyCurious was to encourage girls into #STEM, the #PrettyCuriousChallenge was a gender-neutral competition”. It added: “The winner was shortlisted by a panel of judges including the all-female winning

Suw Charman-Anderson, who founded the annual celebration of women in Stem, Ada Lovelace Day, told the BBC she had had reservations about the Pretty Curious campaign from the beginning. “EDF Energy chose to link appearance and interest in Stem through the title of their campaign, despite many people pointing out that it was demeaning to girls,” she said. “Rather than challenging stereotypes, the focus on girls’ looks rather than their intelligence reinforces them. “EDF Energy have failed to understand both the nature of the problem [of women in Stem] and the negative impacts that their publicity stunt may well have on girls who took part with genuine enthusiasm and excitement.
‘Girls in tech’ competition won by boy
The Pretty Curious challenge was opened up to both sexes but the wider campaign is still aimed at teenage girls, EDF said EDF Energy has been criticised after a 13-year-oldboy won a competition that was part of a campaign to attract teenage girls to the fields of science, technology, engineering and maths. Children were asked to think of ideas for a connected home bedroom product. EDF said that while its Pretty Curious programme is still aimed at girls, the UK competition was later opened up to all 11 to 16-year-olds. It continues to share the same website and branding as the girls’ scheme. The BBC understands that the decision had been made to open the competition up to both genders in the interests of fairness, and that the contest attracted “a couple of hundred” entries. Following three events held in the UK for girls last year, the contest was extended online and made available to boys as well. The winner’s idea was for a games controller which harnesses kinetic energy from thumb action using wind-up triggers. Three of the four runners-up, whose ideas included smart curtains, a smart fridge and a sleep monitor, were submitted by girls. “We were really impressed with the ideas which were submitted. It’s exciting to see so many young people getting involved in this type of initiative and engaging with Stem (science, technology, engineering and maths). We hope more young people will be inspired to pursue Stem subjects at school and consider Stem careers in future,” said Amy Edmundson, an electrical maintenance technician at EDF. WhatsApp is killing support for BlackBerry and other old platforms If you’re a WhatsApp user with an older device, I have some bad news for you: your OS may no longer be supported by next year. To summarize, WhatsApp will only be available on Android 2.3+, iOS and Windows phone 8.1+ “by the end of 2016.” In total, it’s ending support for: All BlackBerry OS devices, even the newish BlackBerry 10 Nokia S40 Nokia Symbian S60 Android 2.1 and Android 2.2 Windows Phone 7.1 That said, the company
doesn’t say if it will remove its software from the respective app stores or if it will just stop updating the app. Either way, it means those users will miss out on any new features and perhaps be totally incompatible if the WhatsApp makes any major changes to the software by the end of the year. For US users this may not be much of a big deal – WhatsApp says the big three OS’s account for 99.5 percent of sales today – some regions of the world where BlackBerry devices or older OS’s are still
fairly popular will suffer more. Still, you can’t really blame WhatsApp, as it’s supported more platforms than the vast majority of competitors for some time no. It’s somewhat surprising they held out on older phones for so long; I mean, who still updates on Symbian? Netflix said it was going to declare war on users that took advantage of VPN services and DNS hacks to gain access to the US library, and it wasn’t kidding: a number of common methods for obscuring your location have been blocked entirely in the last week. Users poured into a thread on Reddit this weekend reporting that Netflix was detecting their VPN sessions
and showing an error as of the last week, and that many of them have struggled to find an alternative that worked for more than a few days. Services like Private Internet Access, ExpressVPN, Mullvad and more stopped allowing access to US Netflix in the last week as the company blocked them — and users aren’t happy. DNS tricks like Unblock-US, which don’t require complex setup, have also stopped working this week. Others, like Unotelly, have quietly removed features that allowed non-US residents access to the service, bowing to pressure from Netflix by adding terms that explicitly disallow using its service for breaking geo-blocking. Netflix also appears to have moved to block users that created their own VPN using a self-hosted server.
The company has blocked entire IP address ranges from DigitalOcean, Linode and Amazon Web Services in an effort to prevent the tactic. It’s possible the lockdown is simply a game of cat and mouse, with unblocking companies eventually out-maneuvering the streaming giant, though the scale of blocking we’re seeing this time around is unprecedented. VPN providers were confident that they could win the game, but now it’s not looking quite so likely, given so many are offline. There are a number of other ways Netflix could move to further detect overseas customers accessing georestricted content easily, such as using your credit card’s region to restrict which version of the service you can see. http://thenextweb.com/

Thus, El Mundo reported that the number of homes completed in Spain to November 2015 remains in negative rates, after accumulating, up to the end of 2014, seven years of declines. Almost 75% of Homes for Sale are in Good Condition
The condition of a home for sale is one of the most important considerations for a buyer, since not everyone is willing to bear the cost and inconvenience of carrying out improvement works. According to a study by property portal pisos. com, some 73.5% of the homes advertised for sale on their website are in a good state of repair, and would be ready to move into, which is in line with the National Statistics Institute’s data, which states that only 5.6% of principal residences in Spain are not in good condition. The results of the portal’s study show that the Spanish regions with the highest proportion of homes in good condition are Extremadura (78.9%), Andalucía (77.9%) and the Canary Islands (77.4%), while the region with the lowest percentage of homes in a good state of repair is La Rioja (62.7%). In fact La Rioja is the region which has the greatest percentage of brand new apartments for sale, with 17.9%, followed by Galicia (14.5%) and Murcia (13.3%). Moreover, the Basque Country is the region with the greatest supply of refurbished homes, with 11.3%, followed by Catalonia (10%) and La Rioja (9.7%), while in contrast,

We want to take the time to tell everyone about the exhibition we have just attended in Belgium in the city of Gent. This was actually the 10th time that we have attended an exhibition in Belgium, which is a good feeling. It is always a very busy exhibition in Gent. However, this time it started earlier in the year and as a result of this we had a record number of visitors! Over 6000 people attended and it was buzzing from start to finish. We had a new image on the stand, with lots of properties and photos of the area, it was very eye catching and being the only representative from our area meant the stand was like a honey pot!! We managed to get well over a hundred quality contacts, lots of which with flights booked for this side of the summer. Also we handed out 1000 leaflets, this helps to put our little area on the map for the Belgian market!!
So if you have a house you wish to sell, just look us up.

Spain’s House Prices Forecast to Rise by 6% to 2017
Winter economic forecasts published by the European Commission earlier this month indicate that Spain and Ireland, two of the European countries which have suffered most from the bursting of the housing bubble, will again start to register increases in their property prices over the next few years, with Ireland expected to see real prices of housing rise by 6.5% up until 2017, and Spain’s house prices estimated to increase by 6% in the same period. The price of housing in Malta is also expected to rise by 6%. In contrast, the EC forecasts that Greece will experience a further drop in the price of housing, by around 1.5%, and that house prices will also fall in Belgium, France and Bulgaria. The EC highlighted that the price of housing in relation to disposable income stood in Spain at 10.1 years of economic effort in 2014, far from the 15.6 years required in 2007, when prices reached their peak levels, and the 8.6 years required in 2000. The situation in Ireland was similar to Spain, with house prices in relation to income standing at 13 years’ economic effort in 2000, rising to 16.8 years required in 2007 and falling
to 11 years in 2014.
In the Spanish housing market, as well as the number of years’ income required to buy a home having fallen over the years, the number of housing transactions closed each year have also declined. According to the National Statistics Institute’s data, a total of 354,132 housing transactions were carried out in 2015, reaching a level similar to those transacted in 2011 (359,824). However, the figure is less than half the number carried out in 2007, when a total of 775,300 home sales were registered. El Economista reported that another of the aspects that has changed most is the volume of capital loaned for home mortgages. In absolute terms, this has fallen from almost 300,000 million euros loaned in 2006 and 2007, to a little over 41,000 million euros in 2014. Moreover, the amount awarded in each home mortgage loan has also plummeted, by 37% on average, to stand at 106,655 euros in November 2015. kyero.com

viewpoint 25 Politics in Alqueria: An Overview Huercal-Overa Ladies Darts Team
John MacDonald (El Sordo) www.caratacus.eu
www.soltimes.com
Alqueria’s political system evolved out of necessity. Documentary and archaeological evidence suggested that Alqueria was completely bypassed by the Christian Reconquest of Isabella and Ferdinand. The Spanish state used this opportunity to wash their hands of the dysfunctional village with the result that Alqueria became stateless. The Republic of Alqueria came into being and a political system suited to the unique needs of the community developed. It has been said that all Spaniards are born anarchists and the State brings them more in less into a condition of conformity albeit grudgingly. In Alqueria this conversion never happened and these anarchistic tendencies have become more acute. To form a political system from ‘scratch’ and with these tendencies at the fore wasn’t so much a challenge but a ‘labour of love’ or as some said a ‘labour of lunacy’. The first principle of the anarchists is ‘life without authority’, which means no laws and no control. The people of the Village Republic were left to behave according to their own moral code. Considering the inherent hatred shown by the opposing barrios this did not bode well. In fact a state of undeclared warfare exists punctuated by rioting and general civil unrest. José Cabrasilbido, the Village policeman is in a difficult position. If there are no laws he has no authority and is powerless during these periods of strife. He decided his best course of action is to join in the affrays by hurling
the cobblestones of Alqueria which are the projectiles of choice. He is issued with a side-arm but as this is plastic and has ´Dirty Harry Special´ written on the barrel it doesn’t pose a threat. Rodriquez alone wants a dictatorship but he is always outvoted. He would have liked to have created all sorts of statutes where the rights of the individual are restricted and controlled. He has however to satisfy himself with cancelling laws that were never enacted in the first place. He would issue pompous statements suggesting that in the best interests of the citizens of Alqueria this or that piece of legislation would be struck from the statute book. In fact the statute book doesn’t exist and even the constitution is written on the back of a cigarette packet with one of Manuela’s eyeliner pencils. The income from Remitroot sales is shared between the population according to need with a small retention for the maintenance of the pueblo and José Cabrasilbido’s wage, the only paid official in Alqueria. How the ruling coalition of Manuela, Antonio Poyato and Loco Paco spend their time is a mystery but the sounds of merriment coming from the town-hall is perhaps a clue. Considering this brief description of the Alquerian political structure one wonders what the role of the government of Alqueria actually is but surely the same question can be asked of all governments.
‘Follow me.’ I followed the immaculately presented young nurse from the private hospital in Huercal-Overa as she dashed from Reception to – when she stopped dead and shot out ‘Sit.’ As there were no dogs in sight, I sat. ‘Go in there. Take your bra off, but leave your sweater on.’ This is possible, but usually executed the other way around by normal people. ‘Take your jeans off.’ I sat down and began to take my boots off. ‘Leave your boots on.’ I straightened up and looked at her. If you think my jeans are coming off over the top of my boots you are a deluded optimist, I thought. I showed willing by undoing my belt buckle. ‘Lie here.’ I lay there, and she heaved my jeans down as far as my knees. ‘Ajfavha8rerjpjc;kf.’ I said ‘Eh?’ She replied ‘Eiqw[fujadgjitwukg.’ I repeated ‘Eh?’ then I realised that she had spoken English. josbiggs@hotmail.co.uk Ladies Darts Team, and this was her practice night! She went for a 6 dart finish before she found the spot and installed a junction box in the back of my hand. I thought you contrary cow, and squeaked vociferously. She grabbed my ‘bad’ arm and went to yank it above my head. It goes above my head no problem, but I wasn’t going to let her pull it about - if she’d asked nicely and acted gently I would have put my arm up, so I let her sweat for it. With much wincing and exaggerated noises of pain, I gradually put my arm up, and without further ado I was slid mechanically into a mysterious donut.
LEGAL CORNER WITH MICHAEL DAVIES, ABOGADO/SOLICITOR
If you wish us to print an article about a particular topic, please e-mail info@daviessolicitors.com - www.daviessolicitors.com MENTIONING A TRUST ON A SPANISH WILL IS ASKING FOR TROUBLE. SOMETIMES WHAT IS LEGALLY POSSIBLE AND WHAT IS PRACTICAL IS NOT THE SAME THING. THIS IS A PRIME EXAMPLE. Question: I had a Spanish will made out for myself and my wife some time ago. We have recently hired a solicitor to handle a conveyance and he has taken a look at the wills and told us they are not good and that we should make new ones. We are now uncertain of what to do. We have attached the wills for you to take a look at them. Our instruction to our original solicitor in Spain was for him to do exactly what we did in the UK on our English wills. He said that since the Directive 650/2012 this can be done. Answer. As my granny would always say: a little knowledge can cause a lot of damage. There is no doubt, the will is dreadful. You must change it. I doubt the person who prepared your will has ever dealt with probate in Spain and in fact I doubt the person is even a solicitor. ( I say this because any solicitor I know would tell you that your will is asking for trouble). The will essentially translates the English will you handed over and sets up a trust to protect your children versus your second wife. Even though Directive 650/2012 allows English law to be applied (by choice of the testator) to how an estate is distributed in Spain, using institutions like trusts will cause endless problems and expenses for your heirs because Trusts are not understood in Spain the same way as in UK. So Certifications of English law (which are very expensive) will be required to help wind up the estate (by explaining the content of English law). To this you
will have to add a lot of problems with Spanish Inheritance tax (remember Directive 650/2012 has no effect on the taxation of the estate). In Spain it is the beneficiary that pays inheritance tax and not the estate. Descendants and spouse in Andalucía are exempt if they each receive less than 175,000€. In this case the trustee is a non-family member and as he has faculty to dispose of assets, the Spanish tax office could interpret that he is in control of the estate and is the person who owes the tax. As non-family he would receive a large tax bill. (This could all be battled out but it would be a mess.) Conclusion: Keep things sensible and uncomplicated. In this case achieve what you want using methods that are common practice in Spain. (Even though with the Directive it is possible to have the will run under English law you must remember that probate will need to be obtained in Spain, so making a will that nobody understands in Spain is not a good idea It would be up to your heirs to prove what UK law says and I can tell you from plenty of experience that dealing with Trusts in Spain is nightmare scenario.) In this case leave the life possession of your property to you wife and the residual value to your children. With the values you have sent me the estate will be exempt, probate will be simple and both your children and your wife will be fully protected as you asked for. Michael Davies. Abogado.
Michael Davies is a Spanish Abogado and has been practicing law in Almería since 1993. He is member of the Law societies of Almería and Madrid and has offices in Mojacar and Almeria High Street.

FOOD & ENTERTAINING... Leek, Chard, Feta And Walnut Filo Pie
I spent five years of my life living in Cyprus, so pastry, feta and green veg will always have a special place in my life. There, pies are often stuffed with horta, or wild mountain greens. In the UK, I often substitute them with leeks, chard or beetroot leaves in winter and (if I’m lucky), nettles or purslane in spring. Preheat the oven to 180C/350F/ gas mark 4. Heat the oil in a frying Ingredients pan and add the garlic. Sweat for a minute, then add the leeks, chard, Serves 6 2 tbsp olive oil rice and nuts. Cook for a couple 4 garlic cloves, finely chopped of minutes and let it cool. Add the 150g cooked leeks herbs and feta, season lightly and 150g chard stir until well combined. 50g easy-cook rice Brush the bottom of a 22cm 50g walnuts or pecans, toasted baking dish with some melted and roughly chopped 1 tbsp parsley, chopped butter and line with a filo sheet. 1 tbsp dill, chopped Brush it again and repeat with 1 tbsp mint, chopped another three sheets. One batch of charred leeks, four recipe ideas. A single batch of cheap leeks will lend sweetness to your supper. Try them in these recipes from Olia Hercules (www.theguardian.com)
Charred Leeks
This is an easy way to pre-cook leeks, so they are ready to use at any time of the week . Make sure not to overcook them. They should sof ten a lit tle, but should still retain their shape.
Ingredients About 500g leeks, washed 1 fresh bay leaf A few sprigs of thyme Salt and black pepper Extra virgin olive oil, for drizzling
Trim only the ragged green tips of the leeks, keeping most of the tougher, green stalk. Slice the leeks into 4cmthick cylinders. Put the tougher green parts into a large frying pan all in one layer. Add just enough cold water to cover the leeks. Crush a bay leaf in your hand, then add it to the pan along with the thyme and a little salt and pepper. Bring to a light simmer, then cook for about 5 minutes. Add the white parts of the leek and cook for another 3 minutes. Gently drain, then spread across a couple of large plates, so they cool quickly. Toss in a little olive oil and keep in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week.
Roast Hake With Leek Agrodolce
I studied Italian at university and lived in Sicily as an exchange student. This is where I fell in love with agrodolce – the Italian sweet and sour sauce. Set the oven to 200C/400F/gas mark 6. Brush the hake and leeks in oil, season with salt, then roast for Ingredients about 10 minutes. Serves 2 Meanwhile, make the agrodolce. 300g hake (or other firm white Mix the lemon juice, zest, some sea fish) salt flakes, honey, capers, olives, 150g cooked leeks 2 tbsp olive oil sultanas, chilli and parsley. It should Salt be perfectly sweet and sour, but Juice and zest of 1 lemon adjust to your taste. 1 tbsp honey 2 tsp capers, rinsed Toss the leeks in the agrodolce 7 green olives, sliced sauce as soon as they are out of 1 tbsp sultanas 1 small red chilli, chopped the oven. Let them absorb it all in for 1-2 minutes, then serve with the (optional) 3 sprigs parsley, finely chopped hake.

Trofie With Leeks, Spinach And Ingredients Sourdough Crumbs Serves 2
50g chorizo, chopped 100g cooked leeks 100g spinach ½ tbsp tarragon, finely chopped 50ml creme fraiche 200g trofie pasta (or any other variety)
You can leave the chorizo out of this dish and use butter or oil instead to keep it vegetarian. I do love using a tiny bit of chorizo though – just enough to flavour the dish with a trace of delicious, spiced fat. Tarragon may be too much for some, but I think it is an underused herb and should have For the sourdough crumbs a life outside a chicken pie. Trofie is Olive oil my favourite pasta. If you can’t find 2 garlic cloves, finely chopped it, it really is not that important – use 50g stale sourdough, blitzed any old pasta you have hanging out into crumbs in your cupboard. You can leave the Zest and juice of 1 lemon pangrattato out if you don’t have any 1 tbsp parsley, finely chopped sourdough at hand. First, make the sourdough crumbs (pangrattato). Heat 3 tbsp olive

oil in a pan. Add the garlic and sweat for a minute without burning. Add the crumbs, zest and parsley. Cook for a few minutes, until the crumbs are nice and golden. Tip these into a bowl and set aside. Wipe the pan, then add the chorizo (and a little oil if the chorizo is not very fatty). Cook it slowly to release the spiced fat. Add the leeks, spinach and tarragon and cook it all, stirring from time to time until the spinach has wilted and the leeks have warmed through. Add the creme fraiche and squeeze some lemon juice over it all. Meanwhile, cook the pasta until al dente in salted water, drain (but not too thoroughly, so some pasta cooking water still clings to it) and add this to the pan with the sauce. Serve with the sourdough pangrattato sprinkled all over.
La

Ingredients
Serves 2 1 tbsp olive oil 120g cooked leeks 100g broccoli, blanched 3 eggs, lightly beaten 100ml plain full-fat yoghurt ¼ tsp chilli flakes Zest of 1 lemon 50g Lancashire cheese Salt and black pepper Butter, for greasing
When I was training to be a chef, my tutor was strict about burning leeks – even the slightest bit of colour was deemed enough to render the allium “unpassable.” How times have changed. Preheat the grill to high. Oil the leeks and broccoli. Grill for 5 minutes, or until charred. Alternatively, warm a griddle pan over a high heat, toss the broccoli in oil and cook until charred. Repeat with the leek. Set the oven to 170C/335F/gas mark 3½. Mix the eggs, yoghurt, chilli flakes and zest, season thoroughly with salt and pepper, then beat with a whisk until well-combined and frothy. The more you beat it, the more it will puff up when baked. Butter a baking dish really well and pour in the egg mix. Then carefully lower in the (cooled) leeks and broccoli and sprinkle with the cheese. Bake for 10 minutes or until the mixture is just starting to set. Let it cool a little and serve with a simple salad dressed with some shallot vinaigrette.

Girl forms unbreakable bond with her pet duck
FREEPORT, Maine --A lot of kids go to the park to see ducks, but 5-year-old Kylie Brown takes her duck to see the park. Snowflake swims around the pond and then he returns when called. Because Snowflake sincerely believes that Kylie is his mother, and the duck is not alone in this delusion. "I'm his mom," Kylie said. When she was reminded that she is not really the duck's mom, she disagreed. "Yep, I'm his mom." Kylie first noticed Snowflake’s attachment the

Book Review
Tigers in Red Weather by Liza Klaussmann
www.carolnaylor.blogspot.com - www.carolesleynaylor.wordpress.com - naylorcl@hotmail.es
“ Houses, husbands, and midnight gin parties. Nothing’s going to change. Not in any way that really matters. It will be like always.” This is post-war America, full of expectation and excitement for the likes of cousin Nick and Helena seeking The Great Gatsby life of endless parties and self-indulgence galore. Both women were married: Helena had sadly lost Fen after 2 months of marriage but remarried in haste and moved to Hollywood with its glitz and glamour whilst Nick married Hughes out of love and desire hoping to lead an exciting life. Yes, hoping! The story interestingly, darts back and forth over two decades so you need to be on your toes and there are multiple narrators-in total five: Nick, her daughter Daisy, Helena, Hughes and Ed, Helena’s son. There are overlaps which serve as reminders to the readers of the events taking place as well as indicating the innermost thoughts and feelings of the characters. The characters are presented very much as a dysfunctional family, sad, lonely and unhappy. Too many lies, too many secrets. Tiger House is central to the plot because this is where the main characters unite to spend their long hot summers entertaining, dancing to the blues, indulging in excessive drinking and flirtatious behaviour and endless rounds of gossip. With all this apparent excitement and the passion of the heat and moment, boredom and disillusionment destroy the fervour. And, of course a brutal murder. Klaussmann has cleverly used Wallace Stevens’ poem Disillusionment At Ten O’ Clock, a lament, to illustrate the monotony of life starved of imagination in the title and at the end of the novel. We see this disillusionment particularly in Nick who hides her feelings and is grossly unhappy at discovering her husband’s betrayal. He was supposed to love her. Instead he made everything blank and turned her life gray. Excessive drink and one-night stands are the consequences. But does this fulfil her needs? Of course not. She hides her loneliness and unhappiness, admitting to making a mess of things. Badly damaged. Ed is the creative one but as a paradox one can perhaps say that creativity could also lead to destruction. There’s a fine dividing line between the two. He is different and has a distorted and unhealthy view of life and love. He believes that love is brutal and sudden causing permanent damage. He is creepy, following people, listening into private conversations to educate himself about people and what’s inside them. Hughes worries that there’s something seriously wrong with the kid. His behaviour is psychotic and he is dangerous. We are presented with a gruesome image of a mouse that he has trapped in the basement. He has crudely sliced it open and inserted a small toothpick which was sticking out of one of its eyes. If he does this to animals could he do this to human beings? That’s the worrying factor. 1959 is a significant time because a violent murder is committed and

witnessed by Ed. He then admits to having had some kind of inkling of the work he wanted to do in the future which sounds ominous doesn’t it? He describes this murder as some “kind of joy released, the closest thing to love.” Helena believes she is an innocent, easy prey because of her vulnerability mistaken for her gullibility. She believed that the world was cruel to innocents like herself. She grows to hate cousin Nick, alias the Bitch and deludes herself into thinking that Nick has prevented husband Avery from having contact with her. Avery supplies his wife with an abusive level of drugs to subdue her so that he can take advantage of her before abandoning her. Once weaned off the drugs she envelops herself into a boozy cocoon which basically has the same effect as losing touch with reality. She sees herself as a prisoner and she is trapped unable to escape. I have the most sympathy for Hughes. His betrayal happens on the spur of the moment during the war. Three precious liberty days spent in London and a chance encounter with a lonely WREN called Eva destroyed his peace of mind and he was saddled with guilt at betraying his young wife. “ He had promised to love and protect Nick and instead he had betrayed her. He was disgusted.” He blamed the war for turning everything upside down. He admits to having done things he isn’t proud of but he does love Nick and asks for forgiveness. He is a strong presence in the novel and protective of his wife and daughter. Nick also felt trapped. Hughes wanted life to be good and safe. She disliked the stuffiness and respectability. “Sometimes I want to rip my clothes off and go running down the street stark naked and screaming my head off.” She wanted them to be different and saw marriage like jumping off a cliff. “They were not supposed to be careful people.” Another reminder of F. Scott Fitzgerald. There’s an interesting discussion about monotony, that life isn’t always going to be full of adventure or excitement. All the little things one has to do every day can make life tedious. And I suppose we are talking about getting the right balance here aren’t we? They got it wrong and lived to regret it. Makes for powerful reading though… Don’t you agree??? Publisher: Picador. ISBN: 978-1-4472-1207-2

March in the Spanish Garden
Take and plant up spring cuttings of geraniums, echiums, margaritas, leonothus, rosemary, sage etc.. Start to fill gaps in the garden but wait until inland frosts are past before planting the more tender plants. Start a regular programme of spraying fruit trees and bushes and vulnerable plants such as geraniums with appropriate eco-sprays. Start to plant out plantlets for summer harvests and sow seeds for tender plants such as squash, courgettes, tomatoes and peppers that will not be planted out until late April and May. If not already done plant seed potatoes and Jerusalem artichoke tubers. When the unusually log wet period ends complete the winter cut back in the flower garden and of hedges and trees. In view of the water shortages last year and the current low volumes of stored water in the reservoirs install some roof guttering and water barrels/tanks. Enjoy harvesting seasonal peas, broad beans and asparagus. Sieve out the ready compost in the compost heap to top up raised beds and prepare bean trenches for later planting. Start to mow lawns and give a spring feed.
Once you have a dry day or two complete the laying of paths and terraces and the construction of water features so that plants can be planted around them for spring and summer colour. Give ponds an annual clean out cutting back excessive root growth and splitting plants to enlarge groupings or give away.

Road maintenance workers reported finding the bird at kilometre 382 of the motorway, with officers from the SEPRONA wildlife and environmental division of the Guardia Civil responding. On account of the severity of injuries suffered, it is believed that the animal may have impacted with a vehicle, most likely a truck. The bird was taken to the Font del Vidre animal recovery centre in Pobla de Benifassà for treatment.

Motor Homes are normally built around a large van chassis and engine. Unfortunately the engines are not set up or tuned for optimum economy or power output for motor homes. Most manufacturers sell their vehicles all over the world and have to allow for differing conditions within each export market. Conditions such as climate, emissions regulations and fuel quality are all taken into account. They have to take into account expectations of many commercial vehicle fleet buyers, who are happy to accept a compromise that copes adequately with average commercial use, not necessarily what is most effective when those same vehicles are converted for use as motorhomes. The great news is that today the engines on most turbo diesel engines can be tuned to increase the economy and performance without any component changes to the engine at all. Great Benefits Your vehicle’s throttle response is now sharper, turbo lag and flat spots have been eliminated, gear changes arrive sooner, your whole vehicle feels livelier, as though you had chosen the bigger engine option. These are just some of the benefits you will enjoy with a “Veloc Tuning” remap. How It is achieved by carefully changing the software within the vehicles “ECU” or “Engine Control Unit”. This is the brain of the engine that controls how the engine runs. How must air and fuel goes into the engine, the timing for the injection of the fuel, also the duration, and turbo boost pressure. All can be adjusted mostly by plugging into the vehicles “OBD” port or “On Board Diagnostics” port under the dashboard of the vehicle. Some vehicles require the ECU removing to make the tuning modification, and will take a little longer, but the end result is the same. Using state of the art equipment and the skill and training we have received, we can retune your engine to make these great improvements to save on fuel, and give very useful extra pulling power, also a smoother, happier running engine. FROM JUST 199€ FOR CARS TO BE REMAPPED, AND FROM 249€ FOR A MOTOR HOME. THE VALUE FOR MONEY IS OUTSTANDING. For full tuning details for your motor home or car, check out our “Motor Home” section on our website. Our tuning service is fully mobile, so will come to you on any Campsite, or your home along the Costas and inland Spain. We offer a lifetime software guarantee for all tuning work. Also a 30 day money back guarantee if you are not totally happy with the results. Then, in that case the vehicle will be returned to the original manufactures software. Also we always let you test drive your Motor Home before asking for any payment. We cover Costa Blanca, Costa Calida, Costa Almeria, and Costa del Sol. Discounts given for groups and friends, if the tuning is done on the same day, and location.

• After a 1-1 draw, Manchester City beat Liverpool 3-1 on penalties to win last Sunday’s League Cup final. Hero of the hour was City’s goalkeeper Willy Cabellero with three spot-kick saves. And this was the first Wembley Cup final which saw two brothers (the Toures) play against each other. • It’s as you were in the PL after Leicester (top) beat Norwich 1-0 and Tottenham (second) defeated Swansea 2-1, while Arsenal (third) lost 3-2 at Old Trafford. • There were also PL wins last weekend for Chelsea (at Southampton), Stoke (v. Aston Villa), WBA (v. Crystal Palace) and West Ham (v. Sunderland). • Burnley (winners at Bolton) lead the Championship by one point from Hull City (65-64); Burton Albion are two points clear of Wigan (64-62) in FL1 while Northampton, unbeaten in 11, head FL2 by 10 points from Plymouth. • Celtic and Aberdeen stand 1-2 in the SPL; Barcelona are set for their 24th La Liga title and Atletico Madrid beat Real Madrid in the Spanish derby. • Juventus (Serie A), PSG (France) and Bayern Munich (Bundesliga) top their respective League tables. • In recent Champions League games, Manchester City beat Dynamo Kiev 3-1 (away) but Arsenal lost 2-0 at home to Lionel Messi-inspired Barcelona. • In the last 32 of the Europa League, Manchester United, with two goals by debutant Marcus Rashford, whipped FC Midtjylland 5-1 (6-3 on aggregate); Liverpool pipped Augsburg 1-0 with a James Milner penalty and Tottenham ousted Fiorentina 3-0 (4-1 overall). Scotland won for the first time in two years, 36-20 in Italy and Wales eclipsed France 1910 in a bruising contest in Cardiff which was marred by too many scrummages! • Saracens and Exeter Chiefs lie first and second in the Aviva PL. • And Warrington Wolves head the Super League. • Carl Frampton is now the undisputed super bantamweight champion of the world after last Saturday’s points win over Scott Quigg. • GB’s fencing team has qualified for the Olympics for the first time since 1964. • Rory McIlroy again missed the cut in the Honda Golf Classic which was won by Adam Scott with Sergio Garcia second. • The World Track Cycling Championships are underway in London. • This weekend, GB’s tennis stars play their Davis Cup match against Japan in Birmingham. • England’s cricketers will soon fly out to India for the T20 World Cup which starts next week.
AGUILON GOLF MEMBERS REPORT
With the new rule outlawing the use of broom-handle putters (or at least anchoring in to the body) it has been noticed that some players are re designing their putting stroke to good effect, perhaps we should all have a look at our putting style. RESULTS Wednesday February 17 – Individual Stableford Following the cancellation of last week’s comp due to high winds, it was business as usual, all be it on another cold windy day with a little sunshine, it was a three way tie at the top but just a warning, one of the three could have won it outright if he had checked his correct gross score which would have given him one more point. 1st Chris Baker 32pts on a card play off 2nd Brian Everitt

Rugby Union coming to Huercal-Overa
With the Six Nations firmly underway it is difficult for us Brits to see the Spanish flourishing in the Rugby world, but the sport on a whole is growing rapidly in our new home. Granted the league structure and quality will fall behind the English, French and Southern Hemisphere big hitters but none the less the infrastructure is there.
With leagues in Murcia and Almeria provinces the border town of Huercal-Overa is looking to form a new Rugby Union Club in the area and the organisers are currently looking to meet with potential players, coaches and lovers of the game to help the project get on its feet, with both British and Spanish involved it is a fantastic chance to potentially put your name into the history books of sport in HuercalOvera. If you are interested in playing, helping with coaching of just a lover of the game you can find out more by contacting us at sportcentralspain@ gmail.com or lee@r-gconsultants. com alternatively find them on facebook: Rugby Huercal-Overa. Rugby union in Spain is a growing team sport. As of 2014, there were 51,123 registered rugby union players in Spain, playing for 221 clubs in various divisions. The governing body for rugby union in Spain, the Spanish Rugby Federation (Spanish: Federación Española de Rugby), founded in 1923, joined the International Rugby Board in 1988. It is also a member of FIRA. The Spanish national team plays in the European Nations Cup, a competition for second tier European rugby nations such as Portugal and Russia. Spain is ranked 21st in the world, and played at the 1999 Rugby World Cup. The national sevens team is now one of the 15 “core teams” that participate in each event of the annual IRB Sevens World Series, having earned that status at the 2012 Hong Kong Sevens. Rugby was first introduced into Spain before World War I.
However, subsequent events such as the Spanish Civil War, which was particularly violent in the sport’s Basque and Catalan heartlands hindered its development. There are traditionally four main rugby playing regions in Spain: Madrid, the city of Valladolid in the Old Castile region, the Basque Country, and the region of Catalonia particularly around Barcelona. The earliest recorded game in Spain was in 1901, when an Englishman, Stuart Nicholson, resident in Bilbao, “turned to Racing Club, when he wanted eye catching opposition for a three team tournament, also involving British and French exiles in Barcelona.” However, rugby lay largely dormant in the country until after the end of WWI, when rugby was reintroduced into Spain from the south of France, particularly Provence and the French Basque Country. In 1921, Baudilio Aleu Torres, a Catalan, who had been studying veterinary medicine in Toulouse, returned to his native Barcelona, and founded the Santboiana Club there. Santboiana’s pitch was cleared by the players themselves, and according to Huw Richards, “a tree was tolerated and used as a coat hanger, until it was uprooted after a few games.” The Spanish Rugby Federation, the governing body for rugby union in Spain, was founded in 1923. The first game in Madrid was in the 1920s as well, when Biarritz and Tarbes played an exhibition match in front of 12,000 spectators. The score upset some of the fans, who protested by throwing cushions onto the pitch. A Spanish XV played France, including Yves du Manoir, in 1927, but it was organised by a rebel governing body, and so is not usually recognised as a proper international game. Spain’s first recognised international was in 1929, against Italy, in Barcelona, at Montjuïc Stadium, as part of the 1929 Expo. The Spanish Royal Family attended and all of the players were Catalan. Spain won 9-0. Be the Game! Lee Rickard Graham
