Soltimes 3 British father-of-five is found guilty of murdering ‘gentle giant’
A British father-of-five was convicted today of murdering ‘gentle giant’ John O’Neill after a petty row at a bar on Spain’s Costa del Sol. A Spanish jury found Darren O’Flaherty, 42, guilty after a four-day trial at a court in Malaga. He was also convicted of attempting to murder bar manager James Walsh and owning the unlicensed gun used at Coco’s Bar in the holiday resort of Benalmadena in July 2010. The jury cleared O’Flaherty, from Liverpool, of the attempted murder of a second bar worker. The Briton, who was on the run from police in England when he shot 40-year-old Irish plasterer Mr O’Neill after assaulting another man, is now facing a lengthy jail sentence. Prosecutors called on Judge Julio Ruiz to jail O’Flaherty for 17 years for the murder of the father-of-two, 12 years for the attempted murder and a 18 months for the weapons charge.
Judge Ruiz is expected to be hand out the sentence in the next fortnight. O’Flaherty glanced at his parents as the verdict was read out, before hanging his head. His lawyer Cristina Carrillo said he would appeal. Mr O’Neill, from Coolock in Dublin, who was on his first foreign holiday with his partner Maxine Sutcliffe, son Jake, three, and daughter Jasmine, who was only nine months old, and had attended a wedding the day before. He collapsed and died at a bus stop 50 yards from the bar after suffering a fatal stomach wound. O’Flaherty was not caught until almost three years later. He was held on a European arrest warrant while celebrating his birthday at a Chinese restaurant in north Wales in August 2013. He was extradited to Spain in February 2015 after serving the remainder of his sentence in the UK for his role in a knifepoint hold-up. Jurors were told on the first day of the trial that
he was living under a false name when he killed Mr O’Neill, but the charge of using fake documentation to rent his Costa del Sol flat was withdrawn before they retired to consider their verdict yesterday. O’Flaherty also faces having to compensate Ms Sutcliffe and his two children with up to 250,000 euros (£216,000). His lawyers had argued there was no intent but the jury decided he had given his victim no chance of defending himself in the ‘surprise attack’. O’Flaherty returned to the bar with a .38 revolver and targeted drinkers after being kicked out for an unprovoked attack on a friend of the slain Irishman who had been using a toilet he was trying to get into. O´Flaherty declined to take the witness stand after opening speeches by his lawyers and the state prosecutor, telling the court through his translator that he would not answer any questions.

Rajoy, will not call early elections Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy recently talked to journalists from media organizations representing LENA. Although the formal reason for meeting the press was to discuss European issues on the 60th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome, which established the European Economic Community, the questions also covered the national agenda. The following are highlights from that meeting. Rajoy, who had mentioned terrorism during the interview, made an additional statement following the attack to call on European citizens for “perseverance and a solid determination to defend the values of our civilization.” The leader of a country that has dealt with decades of terrorism from ETA first, then from Islamists, underscored the importance of adapting legislation to the new forms of violence and radicalization, and for
governments a n d parliaments across Europe to support law enforcement agencies. “And third, and this is the most important thing of all – and I speak out of personal experience fighting terrorism as interior minister – we need to increase cooperation among intelligence services.” said Rajoy. “We [in Spain] have benefited greatly from French cooperation, for which I will never tire of expressing gratitude. There is no doubt that if we were able to increase cooperation among member states, it would be easier to fight terrorism. This is one of our great challenges of the future, and one of the issues that the European Union must emphasize. Let’s focus on the real issues: immigration, terrorism, growth, jobs, and let’s take a clear stand in favour of EU integration. The message
that needs to come out of Rome is something like ‘Together forever’.” While Rajoy defended greater cooperation and integration throughout the interview, the union is now facing the unprecedented challenge of dealing with a breakaway member. Brexit is of particular interest to Spain due to the issue of Gibraltar, where a majority of people voted against leaving the EU, and because of the large number of British citizens who live in Spain and are now uncertain about their own future. “There is no good Brexit,” said Rajoy. “Brexit was not good news, neither for Britain nor for the rest of Europe. We need to do things properly, which means achieving the best possible relationship during Britain’s exit and in the future.

Soltimes 5 innocents while we all soulfully ponder if today's conflicts will ever be resolved. Great Britain has been dealing with terrorism on its shores for as long as people on this island have existed. Over the last half millennium alone, the British Isles have seen religious and political extremists sack cities and spill the blood of civilian’s innumerable times over. Our island story is replete with examples of detainment, torture and slaughter in the name of political objectives and 'contemporary' terrorism has continuously occurred since the 1930s and the troubles in Ireland. The events in London are not new, even if the pain they bring is, and the emergency services, the public outcry and the response of ordinary people to extraordinary circumstances is a source of pride for us all. Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London, received criticism from Donald Trump’s eldest son for saying that terror attacks are “part and parcel of living in a big city”. In the actual context of his words, it's clear that Khan rightly meant that the risk of terror is greater in metropolitan areas and thus Londoners must be vigilant. All evidence of terrorist incidents in the West over the last 15 years would support this. Shining beacons of liberty, freedom and multiculturalism that
have endured for hundreds of years will always be a tempting target to ideologues and fascists. One wonders if Khan would have received equal criticism had he warned that Hitler will always have his eyes set on London as long as the Nazi regime stands. Political capitals are officious, but they're also symbols of justice and freedom which will always earn the enmity of cowards. The irony of any attack on London is that it's a special kind of museum for centuries-old hatreds which have transformed into a successful, multicultural peace. It is not perfect, and if it's not always a simpatico example of multiculturalism then it's certainly a melting pot of hatreds that have been confined to the past. Breaking the soul of the British experience is impossible. It has no singular constitution to burn. It's flags and loyalties are divided and parliaments dispersed. Its strength is in its people. And its people have a proven record of not kowtowing to the wickedness and brutality of cowards.

ROMAN CATHOLIC MARRIAGES These are a matter for the local Archbishop in the area of the forthcoming marriage and, in general, they require a baptism certificate and a statutory declaration by the parents of the English party to the effect that their son/daughter is single. Formalities do, however, vary significantly from parish to parish and the requirements should be checked well in advance with the local priest.
CIVIL MARRIAGES
According to information from the Civil Registry in Madrid the requirements for marrying in this country are: • A birth certificate (accompanied by a sworn translation) • Passport • Consular registration Certificate • Consular Certificate of No-Impediment to the marriage It is also a general requirement that you show you are a legal resident in Spain and this is done by providing a recently issued copy proving “empadronamiento” or registration at the local town hall.
Will you Marry me? The Ceremony All wedding ceremonies in Spain must be performed in Spanish. There are however specialist wedding translators to aid in this process - making it much easier to get married in Spain. It must be noted
for religious weddings in Spain, that churches get booked up very early for the summer months in popular resort and holiday locations. It is therefore wise to plan a Spanish wedding as early as possible.

Investing in a dedicated eReader is a good idea
Keyboard shortcuts everyone should know
There are plenty of reasons why investing in a dedicated eReader is a good idea. They’re a lot cheaper than an iPad, for example, and they’re simply a better tool for the task in hand. They can also be lighter than a book, yet store hundreds of books, so you can read your way through a fortnight-long holiday just by taking your eReader along. Battery life is also much better on dedicated eReaders than phones and tablets, here measured in page turns rather than hours.
Ctrl + C or Ctrl + Insert and Ctrl + X. Both Ctrl + C and Ctrl + Insert will copy highlighted text or a selected item. If you want to cut an item instead of copying it, press Ctrl + X. This action removes the text or item and stores it in the clipboard for you, rather than just copying it to the clipboard while leaving the original behind. Apple computer users can substitute the Ctrl key for the command (cmd) key on their computers. Pressing Cmd + C copies highlighted text. Ctrl + V or Shift + Insert. Both the Ctrl + V and Shift + Insert will paste the text or object that’s stored in the clipboard. On Apple computers, use Cmd + V instead.

property spotlight UK house prices continue growth as Brexit looms UK house prices continue to grow at the start of 2017, as the confirmed date for Brexit looms. Average house prices in the UK increased by 6.2 per cent in the year to January, according to the UK’s official house price index, continuing the strong growth seen since the end of 2013. The average UK house price was £218,000 in January. This is £13,000 higher than in January 2016 and £1,000 higher than December 2016. However, this still remains below the average annual house price growth seen in 2016 of 7.4 per cent. Indeed, the house price index revised downwards its initial figures
for end of 2016, with prices rising 5.7 per cent year-onyear, lower than the originally reported 6.7 per cent. The downward revisions could point to a less buoyant housing market than first thought, as the UK prepares to trigger Article 50 on 29th March. Commenting on the UK House Price Index, Richard Snook, senior economist at PwC, says: “While 6 per cent growth remains healthy, the significant downward revision to both the November and December figures portray a less buoyant market than previously thought. With the triggering of Article 50 now confirmed for March 29, we may be

beginning to see the signs of the Brexit related slowdown that we anticipated last year. “We expect house price growth for 2017 to be between 2 per cent and 5 per cent, which means a further slowing of prices over the next 12 months.” The main contribution to the increase in UK house prices came from England, where house prices increased by 6.5 per cent over the year to January 2017, with the average price in England now £235,000. Wales saw house prices increase by 4.2 per cent over the last 12 months to stand at £146,000. In Scotland, the average price increased by 4 per cent over the year to stand at £142,000. The average price in Northern Ireland currently stands at £125,000, an increase of 5.7 per cent over the last 12 months. On a regional basis, London continues to be the region with the highest average house price at £491,000, followed by the South East and the East of England, which stand at £319,000 and £279,000 respectively. The lowest average price continues to be in the North East at £124,000. The East of England, meanwhile, was the region with highest annual growth, as prices increased 9.4 per cent. Growth in the South East was second highest at 8.7 per cent, followed by London at 7.3 per cent. The lowest annual growth was in the North East, where prices increased by 2.2 per cent over the year.

Modern designs are fairly pared-back, so it’s best to avoid fads. Have clear reasons for everything you include. For ornaments and furniture, natural materials provide another contrast to the immaculate planting patterns and the crisp, white surfaces. Options include a driftwood bench, or even a wellworn trough. Lighting is absolutely essential for contemporary gardens. Good lighting is always about what you light, rather than the light fixture. Focus spotlights on elements
such as the battens, textured brickwork or the repeated patterns of planting to emphasise the design. Use repeat patterns in your planting to hold the garden together. A row of small trees, box bushes, shrubs or ornaments
placed at regular intervals gives an order that looks good and has timeless appeal. Create contrast between the simple geometric shapes of lawns and paths and include some loose, blousy planting spilling out of the flowerbeds.

Are you thinking about selling your property? We, Immo-Carlos (the Belgium estate agent for inland properties) have good news for you. We are off to a new exhibition, in May in the famous City of Antwerp (Belgium) which is a very rich area, well known for its diamond trade. There is also a very large port here which is very close to Holland, so possibly for the Dutch clients too. So we are going to promote our area and hopefully we’ll bring many potential buyers to our little corner of Spain. We have a fair and competitive commission and we never have an upfront commission before we sell. Also our office in Albox is in a prime location, with the weekly market on a Tuesday being right next to us. So if you’re thinking about selling your property, please contact Immo-Carlos and let us promote and sell it for you.

diaz leadership vow
WITH MICHAEL DAVIES, ABOGADO/SOLICITOR
If you wish us to print an article about a particular topic, please e-mail info@daviessolicitors.com - www.daviessolicitors.com DO NOT GO CRAZY: NOT EVERYONE CAN SUE THE BANKS TO GET THEIR STAGE PAYMENTS BACK - CAUTION IS NECESSARY. Lately it would seem that every barrister in town is suing the Spanish banks in relation to stage payments on construction projects that have not worked out, and that they are all winning the cases. These cases can be won, but be aware that not everyone who has lost money on the purchase of property under construction can sue “a bank“ for their money. Suddenly you are receiving e-mails, publicity, cold calls etc. offering to handle these cases for you, very often on a “no win/no fee” basis. Be very cautious. Losing a court case can be very expensive, even if you have a no win/no fee deal with your barrister. For many who purchased a property under construction, paid out hard-earned cash, then litigated relentlessly against a builder only to find that, after winning, he has gone bankrupt or simply has no assets in his name, it can be very tempting to respond to the organisation that tells you there is a solution. They tell you: ”all you need to do is sue the bank for not having issued bank guarantees and there will be no problem in getting your money back”. However, be very careful. In many cases suing the bank is a good idea but there are quite a few circumstances that have to be
in place for this to be a viable option that can be presented without risk. We have handled many cases successfully but not all cases are viable and you need a decent solicitor to tell you if this is an option or not. The problem is that these cases are being grossly oversold, in some cases by companies that have been set up specifically to gather cases, which they will later funnel to firms of solicitors. Even though in principle you may consider that there is nothing to lose because they are offering a no win/no fee deal, there could in fact be a lot to lose and my guess is that there will be a lot of tears shed due to these cases. If they offer you a no win/no fee deal they are not telling you that if you lose the judge could make you pay the bank’s court fees. Many cases that are being presented have a high chance of this happening. Also, though not as important as the above, in many cases there are hidden expenses, such as court runner fees etc. Many do not say what will happen if, after the case is won in the first instance, the bank appeals - the banks presently appeal almost every sentence. Have they agreed to work on a no win/no fee basis in the first instance only or will this also include the appeal if they have to fight it, which will happen in almost all cases lost by the bank? I am in no way saying do not claim. I am
simply saying sit in front of a solicitor with all your paperwork and ask them to explain whether they consider you have a case or not. Also ask them for proof that they have actually won one of these cases. Normally a client that has won one of these cases is so happy with his solicitor that he will be more than happy to authorise his lawyer to show the resulting sentence. Unfortunately this overselling is happening now, on the back of the results obtained by many of us who have handled these cases successfully. But of course we were successful because we were very careful with which cases we presented. Also, the current problems will not surface for at least a couple of years and by then it will be too late for those entering into agreements now. Michael Davies - Abogado. Susana Diaz, the regional president of Andalusia, has launched her bid to become the first woman to lead Spain’s Socialist party. Diaz announced her candidacy for the Socialists’ upcoming leadership election at a rally Sunday in Madrid, where she was flanked by former Prime Ministers Felipe Gonzalez and Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero and other party heavyweights. Diaz told the packed hall that she plans to “bring back the passion and hope to the Socialists, something that will help us win the next general elections.” Diaz, 42, has been the regional president of Andalusia since 2013. The southern region is one of the few remaining strongholds for a Socialist party that has been in opposition to the conservative government since 2011. Diaz will go up against former party leader Pedro Sanchez, who was forced out as leader last year, and Basque politician Patxi Lopez at the party congress in June 17-18. Her announcement ended months of speculation that she would run. Founded in 1879, the PSOE has never had a woman as its general secretary.

The New Bridge (Part two)
After the destruction of the northern bridge by old man Matas, life became decidedly difficult for the people of Alqueria. The southerly bridge is on the Camino de Alqueria, a busy road with many prying eyes. Contraband in the form of illicit Remitroot alcohol, banned by a United Nation’s resolution needed to be moved by a more covert route. Rodriquez was also having problems moving waste from his olive mill. To do it openly would mean paying the exorbitant fees charged by industrial waste management companies. A crisis meeting was held. A new bridge had to be built quickly. The money was forthcoming in the form of a European Union Infrastructure Redevelopment Grant. Certain officials in the finance department at Brussels had a weakness for Remitroot liquor. It was only necessary to interrupt their supply and minds became suitably concentrated. It was to be a joint project, with the Newcomer’s half starting on the west bank of the Río Verde and the Hill People’s on the east. The half built by El Gente del Cerro was an elegant affair. Structurally sound and aesthetically pleasing. The Art Nouveau façade veneered with the best Albamiel sandstone. Its foundations sunk deep into the mud of the Río Verde. This eastern section successfully completed on time and well before construction had even started on the western half. The half built by Los Recién Llegados consisted of a surplus pontoon bridge
purchased from a crooked storeman at the Army Engineer’s depot in Castrillo del Val. It was erected in the dead of night by a group of itinerant knife grinders from Guadix. Rodriquez handled this part of the operation and had complete control of the finances. The cash residue from the western half of the project has never been traced. Rodriquez however, has ordered another new gleaming white Mercedes S-Class Roadster. When knife grinders turn their hand to bridge construction, they don’t always take it for granted that the two halves should meet in the middle. Rodriquez was in jovial mood. He was returning from Alicante where he had just collected his gleaming new white Mercedes S-Class Roadster. He decided to take the northerly route into Alqueria. The new bridge came into view. The car’s suspension gently yielded as he drove onto the structure. Rodriquez then noticed that the bridge’s other half was twenty metres down steam. He tried desperately to stop. The car skidded and toppled into the green oily water of the Río Verde. The River’s flow took him and his gleaming new white Mercedes S-Class Roadster down stream and into the Mediterranean. For the second time Rodriquez found himself the illegal immigrant. A guest of the Servicio Marítimo de la Guardia Civil arguing his nationality and discussing his rights of abode on Spanish soil.
A Win-win Situation
From the mind-boggling choice offered by Hiperocio I selected a 3,000 piece jigsaw depicting an atlas of the whole world. I carted it carefully to the counter, and Chica #1 glanced from it to me. ‘It’s very big.’ She remarked in a voice that suggested that maybe I had bitten off more than I could chew. ‘I’ve got a very big kitchen table.’ I reassured her. Meanwhile Pete was pottering up and down the line of coffee makers. ‘Come and have a look at these.’ I came and looked, but more out of politeness than actual interest – I’m a tea person; coffee and coffee makers hold no fascination for me. We dallied, enthralled, in front of one that bore a strong resemblance to a donut that had been fashioned by an alien into a steel spaceship with added coffee making facilities, but sensing that we were out of our league we passed quickly on to the robot penguin type, as favoured by George Clooney. I fancied this one – the machine, I mean! Though Mr Clooney is not so dusty either! It seems that coffee makers fall into 2 main types: Automatic and not automatic. I came out strongly in support of automatic – I felt it was better to have a machine that knew what it was doing, rather than a machine that relied on us for guidance. Whilst we were discussing the relative merits of each machine I noticed Chica #2 hovering
By Jos Biggs editor@soltimes.com
nervously nearby. Her predicament was – she wanted to be helpful to the 2 idiots who clearly had no concept at all of how coffee makers worked, but feared that her English would not be sufficient to enlighten our ignorance. We reached an arrangement – Pete spoke to me, I spoke to her, she spoke to me, and I spoke to Pete – long-winded, but satisfactory! Between us we made a choice a red robotic penguin which was on offer for a heavy discount. ‘You need to register it to get the discount. ’Chica #2 said. ‘Do it online – it’s easy.’ It did seem easy – until she said ‘You take a photo and download it on to the discount form.’ At this point my brain screeched to a halt, turned tail and headed full speed for the hills. But Pete seemed to understand, so we paid, gathered up all the relevant till receipts, etc. and proudly bore our purchases home. So far, so good. Next day the fun began!

Great Food & Drink
Lemon pudding
Treat Yourself
Makes 6 small glasses/ bowls
cream and mascarpone.
Zest and juice of 3 large unwaxed lemons, 3 large eggs, 60g cornflour, 250g caster sugar, 750ml water
1 Grate the zest and then juice the lemons (you need 80ml, so use any extra for another time). Put both zest and 80ml juice a pan with the sugar. Heat over a medium-low heat, stirring until the sugar has dissolved completely. Keep warm.
Cherries or sour cherries in syrup, to serve. 1 Zest the lemons. In a large bowl, whisk together the zest, eggs, cornflour and sugar. Whisk together vigorously until you have a thick cream. You could use a mixer for this. 2 Scrape the mixture into a pan, add the water and lemon juice and cook over a medium low heat, whisking continuously, until the pudding is thick enough to really coat/run slowly from the back of a spoon. It should get hot, and nearly, but not quite, boil. Pour into 6 glasses or small bowls and allow to cool, then put in the fridge for at least 6 hours, or until firm and chilled. Serve alone or topped with fruit, such as cherries in syrup. Lemon posset Makes 4 to 6 small bowls. Zest and juice of 2 large unwaxed lemons 150g caster sugar 450ml cream/150ml
double single
300g
2 In a separate pan, warm the cream over a medium-low flame and bring to a simmer, but do not let it boil. Remove from the heat and then add the lemon and sugar and whisk. Cool slightly and then pour the mixture through a fine sieve into bowls. Cool further, then leave in the fridge for at least 8 hours or until firm and chilled, then serve.

Eating Clean: Top Tips to Follow
Nuts pack in healthy fiber and plant-based protein
Whole grains, veggies, and fruits are all staples in a clean diet At 0 calories, water is the ultimate low energy density drink
Clean eating — filling your diet with nutritious and unprocessed foods instead of calorie-, sugar- and fat-laden processed ones — has a powerful effect on your health. Diet is so important to your wellbeing that some doctors are even prescribing vegetables to their patients, no joke! Go online, though, and you’re likely to find tons of conflicting advice on what’s healthy and what’s not. The truth is that clean eating doesn’t have to be complicated, and it definitely doesn’t mean deprivation. Veggies form the foundation of a clean diet, and you’ll want to include them at virtually every meal. Make veggie selection a snap by choosing produce
of all different hues: green, red, yellow, white and purple/blue. This ensures you’re not only eating several types of veggies every day, which is essential for avoiding diet boredom, but you’re also getting a range of antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients to nourish your body. Use a variety of cooking methods to keep your veggies interesting. Try this grilled asparagus, go for perfect boiled corn or cook up delicious butternut squash. Eating clean doesn’t have to mean going vegan, but you should consider swapping out meat for plant-based protein at least a few times a week. Proteinrich beans, lentils, soy and nuts all supply fiber and other essential
nutrients like folate, which supports healthy blood flow. And eating soy protein in place of meat can lower your cholesterol. Use chickpeas — an excellent source of protein — to add texture to salads, or to make your own hummus. Include quinoa in your diet as a cleaner alternative to pasta in in soups, or as the basis for healthy vegan dishes, like this delicious daal. Obviously, eating clean means nixing processed foods, but that doesn’t mean you can’t take some shortcuts to make your diet easier. Pick up pre-cut veggies and fruits at the grocery store — or even premade zucchini noodles or riced cauliflower — which offer convenience without sacrificing nutritional value. Doing so will ensure you always have cut veggies on hand (perfect for noeffort snacking!) and will shave a few minutes off your meal preparation, so you can stick to your diet. Clean eating focuses on foods with a lowenergy density — those are foods that have relatively large portion sizes with few calories (like leafy greens, which have less than 10 calories per cup). Low energy density foods fill up your plate — and your tummy — so you feel satisfied and full without having to take in tons of calories. That makes it easier to stick to your diet and lose weight and, because low energy density foods tend to pack in lots of nutrients, you’ll also feel energized.

ats might have a reputation for being a bit sneaky or scheming - but, according to science, we really ought to be keeping an eye on dogs if we’re worried about our pets running rings around us. A new study, published in the journal Animal Cognition, has found pet dogs will deliberately deceive humans in order to get something they want. Researchers at the University of Zurich studied 27 dogs, pairing each one with two human partners: a “cooperative” one who would allow the dogs to eat treats, and a “competitive” one who withheld the treats. “During the test,” the researchers explained, “the dog had the options

to lead one of these partners to one of the three potential food locations: one contained a favoured food item, the other a non-preferred food item and the third remained empty. “After having led one of the partners, the dog always had the possibility of leading its cooperative owner to one of the food locations. Therefore, a dog would have a direct benefit from misleading the competitive partner since it would then get another chance to receive the preferred food from the owner. “On the first test day, the dogs led the cooperative partner to the preferred food box more often than expected by chance and more often than the competitive partner. “On the second day, they even led the competitive partner less often to the preferred food than expected by chance and more often to the empty box than the cooperative partner. “These results show that dogs distinguished between the cooperative and the competitive partner, and indicate the flexibility of dogs to adjust their behaviour and that they are able to use tactical deception.” Researcher lead Marianne Heberlein told New Scientist the animals “showed an impressive flexibility in behaviour. They’re not just sticking to a strict rule, but thinking about what different options they have.”

Aruba is AWESOME
LETS Travel
Arrecife is a vibrant, cosmopolitan city full of culture and history located slightly east of central Lanzarote. The name derives from the Spanish for reef and refers to the volcanic rock formations that lie out to sea and protect the picturesque harbour. Arrecife started life as a small fishing village way back in the 15th Century until it grew, eventually becoming the island’s capital in 1852. Today, it is well known as a haven for shoppers! With streets lined with boutiques, high-end retail outlets selling designer labels and bargains galore, many people visit Arrecife for its endless shopping possibilities. Look out for the long pedestrian road called Calle Léon y Castillo and a large shopping centre. It may be a good idea to check out the Centro Insular de Cultura El Almacén, a cultural centre filled with various exhibitions.
Welcome to our little pearl in the Caribbean where island vibes and our mañana way of life blend with all the modern comforts of back home, making Aruba your true home, away from home. Whether it is your first or your 30th visit, whether you’re looking to relocate or just spend a day in port. Get to know Aruba’s culture, by visiting historical and natural places. Whether you like an air conditioned sight-seeing bus tour or a more adventurous 4x4 guided off-road tour, horseback riding, four wheelin’ tour, these are just some of the ways available to explore the island of Aruba. It must be said that there are things to do in Aruba for everyone. Aruba’s beaches are probably one of the biggest attractions on the island. Even though it’s great to spend your day relaxing on the beach, Aruba offers plenty of other attractions and activities that are well worth exploring during your stay.

19th Hole Golf Society, Match Report Lawrie 27 points (24). prize money. Ellen Lea and
Thursday 23rd Of March and the venue for the 19th Hole Golf Societies 3 Division Stableford competition was the exquisite Aguilon Golf Resort. With the course and weather just about perfect for golf it was inevitable that scoring would be exceptional. But as with all forecasts the results rarely match expectations. Only the overall winner managed a below par for the course score, Dave Denyer in Division 3 scored a very neat 42 points to take the win and the abuse from the fellow players, which he sportingly shook off and graciously accepted the
Zeta Denyer were 2nd and 3rd in that division decided on a card countback both on 33 points. Division 1 was again a tight affair with Tony Mackay and Paco Ocaña Grajal only being separated with a card countback. Division 1 was a decisive win for Mike Esposito with a score of 32. Result:- 1st Division. 1st Mike Esposito 32 points (12), 2nd Mark Coffey 27 points (16),3rd Steve Newberry 27 points (10). 2nd Division 1st Tony Mackay 36 points (22), 2nd Paco Ocaña Grajal 27 points (18), 3rd Steve

WHO WILL THE US MASTERS? … asks Tony Matthews
The first major golf tournament – the US Masters – takes place in Augusta from the 6th to the 9th April, and I believe 12 players will be in contention to win the star prize.
And they are… home favourite Jordan Spieth from Texas, who has been sensational around the iconic Augusta course, winning in 2015 and finishing runner-up in 2014 and 2016. Dustin Johnson from South Caroliina, who came 6th in 2015 and 4th last year and Japan’s Hideki Matsuyma, with 5th and 7th place finishes in the last two years, also loves Augusta! Ireland’s Rory McIlroy has had three consecutive topten finishes with a best of 4th in 2015, and he’ll be there or thereabouts for sure, as will the Australian Jason Day, 2nd in 2011 and 3rd in 2013, and the reigning
Masters champion from England, Danny Willett, despite his poor form of late. My other six to ‘watch out for’ are Emiliano Grillo from Argentina, promising outsider Jon Rahm Rodriguez from Spain, the American Bubba Watson from Florida, the freeswinging South African Charl Schwartzel and the Australian duo of Adam Scott and Marc Leishman who was a recent winner in Orlando. No doubt, bets will also be placed one, even two from the English quintet of Paul Casey, Matthew Fitzpatrick, Tommy Fleetwood, Tyrrell Hatton and 40-1 shot Justin Rose… on Germany’s Martin Kaymer… on Alex Noren and Henrik Stenson from Sweden … on Italy’s Francesco Molinari… on Spain’s Rafael Cabrera Bello and Sergio Garcia… and certainly on a load of Americans, including the likeable
Roberto Castro from Texas, Clevelandborn Jason Dufner, Californian Rickie Fowler (the world’s number one amateur for 37 weeks in 200708), 40 year-old Charley Hoffman from San Diego, JB Holmes from Kentucky, Kevin Kisner from South Carolina, the Florida duo of Brooks Koepka and Matt Kuchar, ageing Californian Phil Mickeson (now aged 46), the boisterous Texan Patrick Reed, Webb Simpson (the 2012 US Open champion), Nashville’s Brandt Snedeker, Justin Thomas from Louisville and 38 yearold Jimmy Walker from Oklahoma City… plus South African Branden Grace.
El Pabellon Municipal, Arboleas (Next to Sophia’s) Birthday party packages now available From as little as 6 Euros per child
Tiger Woods may enter, he may not… and if he does, some of his diehard supporters don’t think he’ll make the cut. We’ll see. Watch and enjoy… it will be another excellent golfing weekend.
