Spain, the defending champion, has managed to hang on to the throne. For the second time in a row, its tourism sector ranked as the most competitive in the world, according to the World Economic Forum, an international organization bringing together political and business leaders that is famous for its meetings at Davos, Switzerland. The group’s Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Report 2017: Paving the Way for a More Sustainable & Inclusive Future, which covers 136 economies, grants Spain a top score of 5.4 on 7 on
its Competitiveness Index, bettering France and Germany, which ranked second and third respectively. Also in the Top Ten category are Japan, United Kingdom, United States, Australia, Italy, Canada and Switzerland. “Spain’s success can be attributed to its unique offer of both cultural and natural resources, combined with sound tourism service infrastructure, air transport connectivity and strong policy support,” says the report. Spain has also “benefited from the recent ease of its fiscal policy, and by the redirected tourism
from Middle East and parts of Western Europe, affected by security concerns.” Spain has been climbing the tourism competitiveness ladder quickly: in 2011 it ranked 8th; by 2013 it was in 4th place, and in 2015 it took the world title. The report also notes that Spain’s air infrastructure is among the world’s top nine, but that “while Spain’s ground transportation is ranked in the top 15 economies, it has started to show signs of initial decline, suggesting that upgrades and modernizations are expected.”

Joseph Garcia, Gibraltar’s deputy chief minister, said on Wednesday that Spain had deliberately posted inexperienced police officers at the territory’s border to cause traffic jams, the AFP reported. Garcia said the move was “clearly a response” to the diplomatic spat between the U.K. and Spain over the fate of the British territory in southern Spain. “Spain has used traffic jams as a political weapon against Gibraltar since the day the border opened,” Garcia said, “but certainly it is totally and

absolutely unacceptable.” Earlier, the Gibraltar government had posted pictures of the traffic jam on Twitter, warning travelers it had come to “a standstill.” Spain and Britain have engaged in a war of words over the inclusion of a clause in the European Council’s draft Brexit guidelines, released last week, which obliges the two countries to come to a separate agreement about the status of Gibraltar — a small territory of 30,000 people on Spain’s southern coast — once Britain has left the bloc.
Easter Facts the pagan holiday honoring Eostre the pagan goddess of Spring which symbolized rebirth. Others believe the word Easter comes from the German word eostarun meaning dawn and white.
Ferrari Land
Europe’s fastest and highest rollercoaster has just opened in Spain, as part of a new Ferrari Land attraction. Ferrari Land is the latest addition to PortAventura World, its third park, located on Spain’s Costa Dorada. The ride accelerates from 0 to 112mph in 5 seconds and is over 367 feet tall, meaning it outstrips the UK’s tallest rollercoaster Blackpool’s The Big One by more than one hundred feet. The new park will feature 11 attractions including an immersive Ferrari Experience, as well as the continentbeating rollercoaster Red Force. The world’s tallest rollercoaster stands at 456 ft and can be found at Six Flags Great Adventure park in New Jersey, US. An even taller ride, to be called Skyplex 360.
Easter is now celebrated on the first Sunday after the full moon on the Spring E q u i n o x between March

Soltimes 5 Russian arrested in Spain
A Russian computer programmer, Pyotr Levashov, has been arrested in the Spanish city of Barcelona, a spokesman for the Russian embassy in Madrid said on Sunday. Russian television station RT reported that Levashov was suspected of being involved in hacking attacks linked to alleged interference in last year’s U.S. election. He was arrested under a U.S. international arrest warrant, RT reported on its website, citing Spanish police. The embassy spokesman declined to give details on the reasons for Levashov’s arrest. The Spanish police and interior ministry were not available for comment. Spanish authorities notified the embassy of Levashov’s arrest on Friday, the spokesman said. The U.S. government has formally accused Russia of hacking Democratic Party emails to help the campaign of Republican President Donald Trump. The U.S. Congress is also examining links between Russia and Trump during the election campaign. In January, Spanish police arrested another Russian computer programmer, whose name was given as “Lisov” and who was wanted by the United States under an international arrest warrant.
Airlines’s Expansion Plans
Norwegian Airlines’s expansion plans in Spain are now focusing on Madrid’s Barajas airport, where the low-cost airline wants to offer flights to Latin America. “Spain is a great market, everyone wants to come here,” said company founder and CEO Bjørn Kjos in Oslo. The IAG group, which includes British Airways, Iberia, Vueling and Aer Lingus, announced a month ago that it was
creating a new brand, Level, to cover flights to the Americas from Barcelona’s El Prat airport, beginning in June. Before that, in September of last year, Norwegian had revealed that it would fly to Los Angeles and San Francisco from the Catalan capital. Level went beyond that, and started selling tickets to Buenos Aires and to the popular holiday destination of Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic as well.

Stockholm attack suspect was refused residency
The suspect behind the Stockholm truck attack had been facing deportation and had extremist sympathies, Swedish police say. The 39-year-old Uzbek man is suspected of having driven a truck into a department store in the city on Friday. His application for residency was rejected in June last year and he was being sought by immigration officials, police said. Meanwhile, a second suspect has been placed under formal arrest. Police said they were investigating the second suspect for a “terrorist crime [by committing] murder”. However, Reuters news agency said the person was arrested on “a lower degree of suspicion” than the first suspect. Police have interviewed more than 500 people over the incident, Sweden’s TT news agency reports. On Sunday, people gathered in central
Stockholm for a “Lovefest” vigil against terrorism, and laid flowers outside the Ahlens shop in tribute. More than 20,000 people attended the vigil, AFP reported, citing city officials. City mayor Karin Wanngard told the crowds: “Terror cannot win... instead we shall think of the kindness and openness that characterises our city.” The first suspect had applied for permanent residency in 2014, but this was rejected, and in December 2016 he was given four weeks to leave the country, police chief Jonas Hysing told a press conference. The suspect then disappeared, and police began searching for him, Mr Hysing added. Four people are confirmed to have died
He had been seen only as a “marginal character”, National Police Commissioner Dan Eliasson said. Police say the man was known to have expressed sympathy for groups including so-called Islamic State. Witnesses: Truck was ‘trying to hit people’ Is terror threat to Europe greater today? Sweden has taken in nearly 200,000 refugees and migrants in recent years more per capita than any other European country. However, there was a drop in numbers last year after the country introduced new border checks. Separately, Sweden is believed to have the highest number of Islamic State group fighters per capita in Europe. About 140 of the 300 who went to Syria and Iraq have since returned, leaving the authorities to grapple with how best to reintegrate them into society.
in the attack. Police have not released their identities, but said they were: Two Swedish nationals - one reported to be an 11-year-old girl A Briton - named by his family as 41-year-old Chris Bevington A Belgian woman, said to be a 31-year-old from the city of Halle Another 15 people were injured. The truck, hijacked from a beer company, was driven into Ahlens department store in the capital on Friday afternoon. No terrorist group has claimed to be behind the attack. The first suspect, who has not been named, was known to the security services and was arrested later on Friday.

MOJÁCAR STARTS OFF SEMANA SANTA WITH A CONCERT OF SACRED MUSIC
The Easter activities programmed by Mojácar Council for this year’s Semana Santa (Holy Week) start with a concert of Sacred Music performed by the Town’s Municipal Band.
On Saturday April 8 at 9 pm, the Municipal Band will play a wide selection of the best religious music compositions in Mojácar’s Santa María Parish Church. The concert will feature some of the most well-known classical themes of Semana Santa including works by Eloy García López, Martín Salas, Miguel Sánchez Ruzafa, Víctor Manuel Ferrer and José Vélez, with titles such as “Alma de Trinidad”, “Costalero”, “Palio Blanco”, “Mi Amargura”, “La Última Noche” and “Mesopotamia”. Under the baton of Band Director, Miguel Ángel Miranda, the seventy performers will include many new young musicians who will play for the first time in public and become fully integrated

into the musical group.
Solos will be performed by Luisa Castaño on flute, Ana Montoya García on clarinet and Marlene Diene on alto saxophone with percussion by Francisco González, Andrés Contreras and David Martinez. The standard bearers will be Aarón García, Daniel Flores and Manuel Torres. Although the Mojácar Town Band is composed of very young musicians with an average age 15, they still manage to be among the best in the province of Almeria. With the unconditional support of Mojácar Town Council since its foundation in 2002, this young group of musicians collaborates in all the local events. They also visit various Spanish cities to participate in concerts, contests and musical gatherings, always obtaining a high rating from the public and jurors as well as members of other Municipal Bands.

Soltimes 9 Band for the blessing of the Palms and Olives, as well as to receive Holy Mass. This gospel passage of Jesus’s entry into Jerusalem is depicted in Mojácar as a living procession, with Jesus accompanied by his apostles, children and the townspeople with their palm and olive branches. On Tuesday, April 11, at 10:00 pm, the Stations of the Cross will leave the Parish Church and be taken through the streets of Mojácar Pueblo, carried solely on the shoulders of women bearers. The processions of The Nazarene and The Virgin of Sorrows will leave the Parish Church at 22.30 on Holy Thursday, passing along the streets of the town, accompanied by the Municipal Band. The beautiful ornate floats or thrones (tronos) with their sculpted images (pasos) have had to be adapted to suit the special characteristics of the locality and the narrow, winding streets which make its passage especially spectacular. There are places where the accuracy of the
bearers is essential as they have only a few centimetres to spare between the tronos and the houses. Through the Town Wall Gate the bearers are required to be almost to their knees to allow the pasos to go through the gap. The Holy Burial procession will take place on Good Friday at 22.30

from the Santa Maria Parish Church, once again going through the streets of the town accompanied by the Municipal Band.

Mojácar Holy Week’s religious events come to an end on Sunday at noon, after celebrating the Mass, with the procession of the Risen Christ making the last tour through the town.

An adult should actively watch children at all times while they are in a pool. For infants and toddlers, an adult should be in the water and within arm’s reach, providing “touch supervision.” For older children, an adult should be paying constant attention and free from distractions, like talking on the phone, socializing, tending household chores, or drinking alcohol. The supervising adult must know how to swim. Pool Rules If you have a pool, insist that the following rules are followed: Keep toys away from the pool when the pool is not in use. Empty blow-up pools after each use. No tricycles or other riding toys at poolside. No electrical appliances near the pool. No diving in a pool that is not deep enough. No running on the pool deck. Pool Fences Children can climb out a window, through a doggy door, or sneak out a door to get to the back yard and the pool. To prevent small children from entering the pool area on their own, there should be a fence that completely surrounds the pool or spa. Combined with the watchful eyes of an adult, a fence is the best way to protect your child and other children who may visit or live nearby. Pool fences should also: Be climb-resistant and should not have anything alongside it (such as lawn furniture) that can be used to climb it. Be at least 4 feet high and have no footholds or handholds that could help a child climb it. Have no more than 4 inches between vertical slats. Chain-link fences are very easy to climb and are not recommended as pool fences. If they must be used, the diamond shape should not be bigger than 1¾ inches. Have a gate that is well maintained and is self-closing and selflatching. It should only open away from the pool. The latches should be higher than a child can reach – 54 inches from the bottom of the gate. For above-ground pools always keep children away from steps or ladders. When the pool is not in use, lock or remove the ladders to prevent access by children.
UK defence minister - Russia responsible by proxy for Syria chemical deaths Britain said on Sunday Russia bore responsibility by proxy for civilian deaths in Syria last week caused by a poison gas attack that Washington says was carried out by the Moscowbacked government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. At least 70 people died in what the United States says was a chemical weapons attack in rebelheld Syria. The attack prompted the United States to fire 59 cruise missiles into a Syrian air base from which it said the attack was launched. Damascus and Moscow denied Syrian forces were behind the gas attack but Western countries dismissed their explanation that chemicals leaked from a rebel weapons depot after an air strike. Russia has warned that the U.S. missile strikes could have serious consequences for the region. The missile strikes catapulted Washington into confrontation with Russia, which has advisers on the ground aiding its
close ally Assad. British Defence Secretary Michael Fallon criticised Russia’s support of Assad, describing the chemical attack as a war crime that happened “on their watch”. “By proxy Russia is responsible for every civilian death last week,” Fallon, whose government voiced support for U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to target the Syrian air base, wrote in the Sunday Times newspaper. “If Russia wants to be absolved of responsibility for future attacks, (President) Vladimir Putin needs to enforce commitments, dismantle Assad’s chemical weapons arsenal for good and get fully engaged” with the U.N. peace process on Syria. On Sunday, Russia’s Foreign Ministry criticised a decision by British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson to cancel a visit to Moscow later this month, saying it showed a lack of understanding of events in Syria. The ministry said it also
showed once more that there was little to gain from talking to Britain, which it said had no real influence over world affairs.

Red Manicures Rule!
The bold yet sophisticated shade has been spotted on the runways of some of the biggest shows at New York Fashion Week this season - Altuzarra, Kate Spade and Jill Stuart to name a few - and there’s still three more days to go. Of course, red nail polish has never exactly gone out of style, but it also hasn’t exactly felt modern for some time. Backstage at Badgley Mischka this morning, Deborah Lippmann created a ‘laidback glam’ look by topping a gunmetal shade with a swipe of rich red at the tips. The celebrity nail artist called the French manicure color combination ‘stunning, yet completely unexpected’. A fresh take on the French: Deborah Lippmann updated the classic manicure style for Badgley Mischka’s fall 2017 show by using grey and red polishes. Get the look: Deborah Lipmann Nail Polish in Stormy Weather ($18, net-a-porter.com) and Deborah Lipmann Nail Polish in Lady Is a Tramp ($18, deborahlippmann.com).
If you’re going to spend upwards of $50 on a fragrance, you want the scent to remain fresh and robust throughout the day. Many, however, don’t seem to last through the morning commute. A lack of longevity is not necessarily your fragrance’s fault. Factors like
dry skin and storage environment (heat and humidity break down the scent) contribute to the issue. If carrying around a delicate fragrance bottle in your purse doesn’t sound like the ideal solution, allow us to introduce you to Linger, a primer that’s formulated to extend the life of

perfume on your skin, making it truly worth the investment. When I first stumbled across the product created by ScentIvent, I was intrigued but skeptical. Sure, eye and face primers do wonders for the longevity of make-up, but primer for fragrance seemed like an unnecessary step in my rushed AM routine. On a recent morning I put my doubt aside and gave Linger a shot, applying it onto the inside of my wrists and along my décolletage. After dabbing the formula (which goes on clear and is fragrance-free) into my skin, I spritzed on my favorite yet quick-to-fade eau de parfum. Around lunchtime, I was pleasantly surprised when a flick of my wrist sent a waft of perfume into the air. And at the end of the work day, the scent could still be detected. I was most impressed, however, later that evening while getting ready for bed. I had gone to a sweat-inducing class at the gym and taken a shower and yet the fragrance was still going strong. Linger, priced at $32.50, works by creating an invisible matrix that helps capture fragrance molecules and keep them on the surface of the skin without the interruption of perspiration or natural oils. It also hydrates skin, which allows fragrance to adhere better. My only question: Where has this product been all my life?

Hair Treatments It’s revealing that, according to a new report by the British Heart Foundation, around a quarter of Britons answer in the negative. Those minutes represent the government guidelines for the minimum required level of activity – hit them and you help prevent or manage over 20 chronic conditions, including type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease and hypertension. You also avoid falling into a category – ‘physically inactive’ – that accounts for 6pc of all deaths globally. Of course, we should strive to do more than the bare minimum – but I can already hear you thinking ‘how on Earth am I going to find time to do two and a half hour’s activity a week?’ Fret not: here are
five simple and easy to tricks to incorporate more physical activity within your schedule without really trying... An easy trick to get more exercise, yet so difficult to do. Why would you want to get off a stop early when it means getting home 15 minutes later? The answer, of course, is that you’ll feel better for it. Exercise elevates our mood – which is the precise opposite effect of sitting in a crowded carriage, armpitto-armpit with a hoard of other commuters. Do it once and you’ll find you do it again and again. As we grow older, it’s easy to lose our sense of adventure. Remember those weekends you spent with friends racing around on bicycles as a kid? They get replaced by social trips to the coffee

BOOK REVIEW
by Carol Naylor. children if you fancied a night out. She wasn’t the type to run off with anyone’s husband! Completely trustworthy. On the other hand, her mother liked telling people that her daughter wasn’t adventurous or pretty. She added that she wasn’t the type to travel and she wasn’t a spring chicken. Old before her time? A bit unkind.
Paris For One by Jojo Moyes.
I love the idea of Quick Reads, currently 58 titles by well-known authors and more than suitable for beach reading, retailing at £1 is a bargain. If you enjoy a romantic comedy, then you’ll like this one. This one’s for the girls. “She pictured herself and Pete, tangled up in a French hotel bed, gazing out of the window at the Eiffel Tower, holding hands over croissants and coffee in some street café.” Nell Simmons is 26, a sensible and quiet person unless she is with her girlfriends letting her hair down or having a romantic encounter in Paris and then anything can happen! Who knows? She was the type of person who would willingly water your plants if you went on holiday or look after your
Special Offers Visit:
It’s not surprising that Nell probably preferred the ladette culture of drinking, hanging out with the boys and the inevitable hangovers to nurse with Magda, Trish and Sue and their annual weekend in Brighton. Boyfriend Pete, if he could be called that was the unreliable, easy-going guy who had more of a colourful past than Nell. He thrived on adventure and danger and had travelled around the world. In Laos and Kenya he had two narrow escapes but he had survived. Nell wanted to spend a romantic weekend away and Paris was the obvious choice. It was November time, just perfect. Unfortunately, she chose the wrong weekend, the same weekend planned by the girls to visit Brighton. They had visited Brighton every year for six years and so far, no-one had missed it. Until now. Nell broke the news to Magda that Pete was taking her to Paris (even though it was Nell who had paid). Her friends didn’t think much of Pete. In their eyes he was a loser and a prat. The story begins with an anxious Nell who has been waiting at the station for 30 minutes, feeling worse for wear, worrying that he will not turn up. And of course he doesn’t. A fifth text and a response to say that he is caught up at work and he tells her to go and enjoy herself. The intention is for him to catch
her up later. So, reluctantly she boards the Eurostar, still hopeful that he will turn up and it won’t be a disaster. But there are further complications when Nell reaches the Hotel Bonne Ville to find the room has been double booked and she ends up sparring with a rude American woman who insists on having the last room herself. It soon turns into The World’s Worst Romantic Weekend. Could it get any worse? Fabien is a budding writer earning a living as a waiter, still in a state of despondency after a failed relationship with Sandrine. He had been editing his manuscript for the past 6 months and felt unhappy that his characters were flat and their voices fake. A clumsy accident resulted in the loss of his manuscript and further despondency. A chance meeting or two between Nell and the Frenchman and a 22 minute whistle-stop tour of Paris on a moped taking in the sights of Notre Dame, the Champs-Elysees and the Eiffel Tower provided a necessary distraction for a dejected Nell and the start of a fleeting, romantic encounter. “That was the most bloody terrifying and absolutely best thing I have ever done in my entire life.” Yet she loved it. The music, the drink, the Parisian atmosphere. It all goes to her head. There are one or two surprises left before Nell returns home looking decidedly more relaxed, happy and confident. In fact, a different person. Full of mischief and joy. “We had one perfect night in Paris. It would be a shame to spoil it.” So what did Nell get up to? What happened to Pete and more importantly, what happened between Nell and Fabien? Find out for yourself…… Publisher: Penguin Random House UK.

Technology s w e n e k a f on i nt e v e r p Facebook and Google have had a significant role in the spread of fake news, facing plenty of criticism last year after the US presidential election since fake news is believed to have had a huge impact on the result. Neither Facebook nor Google actively contributed to disseminating fake news. Seemingly motivated by financial or political gain, some
people and organizations took advantage of the way Facebook and Google work and used the services to spread fake news. But both companies have promised to fight the phenomenon, separately announcing measures meant to combat that viral lies that are told online. Google on Friday announced a new product called Fact Check that will be available in Search
and News. Google itself will not verify the accuracy of reports, but the company created the “Fact Check” tag to identify news reports as having been fact-checked by other news publishers and fact-checking organizations. The Fact Check label will appear everywhere in Search and in News, and users will be able to spot fact-checked stories immediately, as seen in the image above. Naturally, not all news reports out there will be factchecked. But the kind of viral stories that turn out to be fake may be fact-checked by people looking to stop the spread of misinformation. Facebook, in turn, is also looking to curb the spread of false news within its social network. The company explained that it’s been focusing on three areas, including the disruption of economic incentives for fake news creators to push such stories, new products to stop the
spread of fake news, and helping people make more informed decisions when they see potential fake news. One of the measures meant to stop fake news is the tool in the image above, an educational project intended to help people spot fake stories. The tool will be located at the top of the News Feed for a few days in 14 countries. Additionally, Facebook promised to continue its work in all the three key areas it identified, in an effort to put a stop to fake news. Like Google, Facebook won’t interfere directly, but it’ll try to prevent fake news from going viral by informing Facebook users how to avoid fake news, and by making it harder for fake news creators to make money off their viral stories. Facebook will also work with other partners to try to prevent fake news from going viral.

Warm & pleasant Spain
Rules and regulations
Plumbago Always sounds like backache to me! The flowery cacyx has tiny hairs which secrete a sticky substance which in turn traps ants and insects, preventing them demolishing the plant. It looks fragile enough, but planted in good, drained soil will last well, without the need for daily watering. It’ll climb too, even though it’s a shrub, adding colour to a blank wall and providing interest.
Osteopermum A fancy name for a member of the Daisy family, a very pretty flower that is also quite clever. It closes up at night and stretches back out to greet the morning sun, protecting itself from night colds and chills. The purple varieties are a firm favourite, and the sheer perfection of this circular flower makes it a popular one for pots and borders, although as before, more watering is needed for the potted varieties.

light, the first ones mentioned are all tougher and less susceptible to damage by sunlight. Plant according to what you’ve got, check out where the sunniest corner is on your patch,
likewise the shadiest, and use these natural locations wisely. A layer of bark will protect the roots from the drying effects of the sun, keep in any water, and look pretty and neat.
Fancy some scent? Yucca A collection of 50 tree shaped shrubs, spiky and tough, elongated sword shaped leaves, and rewarding you in Spain with clumps of white flowers. A good sharp anti burglar plant too, place them below windows for added protection - ouch! Great form and design, they’ll suit an architecturally pleasing garden - but may not be so child friendly. They grow brilliantly well anywhere in warm regions.

and thin out once the seedlings appear. 4) Cover the seeds thinly with soil and tap down with a rake. On heavy soil, cover with potting compost for a more even layer. Get to grips with weeds before they get grips with your plants! The most common culprits are bindweed, couch grass, nettles, docks and thistles. Banish them from borders using a hoe to uproot them or use a spray to clear paths and patios. If you have roses they will need a feed of rose fertiliser. Give shrubs a general feed. Scatter around the base of the plants.

El Mono Colgante
Blythe Gruntmore, Alqueria’s very own Englishman resident and Geordie made one of those decisions that arrive with a flash of inspirational brilliance. The flash however wasn’t inspiration but the effect of downing a large glass of Remitroot Liquor. The idea, simply induced sentimentality born from melancholy brought about by the after effects of downing a large glass of Remitroot liqueur. Blythe’s grand plan, to build an English pub in Alqueria. It was to be built on waste ground to the east of the Río Verde. It was to be called El Mono Colgante, The Hanging Monkey. This was in honour of a brave and gallant act performed by his forebears in the northeast of England during the Napoleonic Wars. Every detail was to be faithfully followed, even the depressing red brick was imported. One very important aspect of an English pub is the beer. Blythe, however failed to grasp the fact that beer at room temperature in England is quite different from beer at room temperature in southern Spain. Most who drank the tepid liquid thought it was a treatment for Pharyngitis. The subtleties of another British tradition were also overlooked by Gruntmore. Puddles of beer on the bar. In the cool climate of Britain people wear long sleeves, when one leans on the bar these sleeves soak up beer. Wet elbows are an integral part of the ‘Pub’ experience. In southern Spain people mostly wear short
sleeves, bare elbows are not absorbent and therefore do not diminish the amount of beer on the bar counter. At the end of the first evening there was so much liquid on the bar it had developed its own tidal system. People were being treated for alcohol poisoning of the elbow, it was costing the Alquerian Heath Service thousands. Food consisted of pickled eggs, pickled onions and what Gruntmore described as ‘Mushy peas and a grunter’. This delicacy consists of Marrowfat Peas, presumably with indigestion as they are treated with bicarbonate of soda, then generally mistreated until they become a green amorphous mass. The ‘peas’ are then served with a barely warm pork pie. The sight of a Spaniard trying to decide what to do with this dish is an interesting one. Some simply opted for bouncing it off the ceiling. British pubs do not offer a table service and Gruntmore followed this tradition. Poor old Alfonso Delgado sat expectantly for four hours before being rushed off to Alqueria General Hospital by paramedics suffering from severe dehydration. Once the unpleasantness of an English pub outweighed its novelty value Gruntmore’s clientele diminished to a critical level. El Mono Colgante soon became another statistic in the list of pubs closed and up for sale. And there’s no sadder sight than a closed and bolted pub. Hello and welcome to CanDu Computer Bytes. The only professional computer help that comes from over 38 years experience and a University education. You can contact me for an appointment at my workshop or I can come to you, by calling 689 892 745 or by Email: canducomputing@hotmail.co.uk. Last time we talked about the least concerning of these unusual clicking sounds that come from your computer. Today I am going to tell you about another source of clicking that is a little more serious. But first I need to ask if, when you looked at your fan, did you make sure that there were no wires catching (very common) or that the whole thing was packed with dust? Out here, in the Almeria
A Spider in the Works
‘Dust Bowl’, this is the most common cause of overheating and computer failure!
The next device that will cause the annoying clicking sound is the CD/DVD drive. I know that we use memory sticks far more often than we use the CD/ DVD (optical) drive but these thing either wear out, or worse, fail through lack of use. In either case the solution is usually easy. All you have to do is remove the old drive and replace it with a new one. In a tower this is, literally, a 5 minute job – start to finish. In a laptop it is usually a little more difficult as they are designed to take as little space as possible and this can mean partially disassembling the laptop. The 5 minute job can now take from 30 minutes to an hour.
For several years now we have enjoyed flawless television, courtesy of Gary and his installation of our Big Dish. However, for some weeks the telly has been less than satisfactory; sometimes it has been fine, but with increasing frequency it has been not fine. It has taken to breaking up into a series of multicoloured lines and squares. In themselves they are quite pretty, a sort of electronic modern art, but this usually happens at an optimum point in the programme when it is building to a climax but before the outcome is obvious, so pretty is not the emotion uppermost in our minds. Initially we blamed the weather as it was raining when this phenomenon first occurred. Then we shifted the blame on to the weather in general, which was behaving strangely in all manner of ways. The weather calmed down, but the telly did not, so the satellite reception was placed next in the guilty line. Time, we decided, to call Gary – he would know how to appease the malicious god who was causing our telly-watching to be so rudely frustrated. Gary duly appeared, all boundless energy and unflappable confidence. ‘That’s happening a lot at the moment.’ He breezed. ‘I’ll have a look.’ He departed to look, and almost before he’d gone he was back again. ‘You’ve got a spider in your LNB.’ I think he said LNB, but he

might have said XYZ for all the enlightenment I got from this statement. I glanced quickly at the calendar – no, it wasn’t the 1st of April! He must have sensed an air of ‘Oh yeah? A spider, eh? Well fancy that now!’ in my demeanour – ‘Come and see for yourself.’ He insisted. As a general rule I am open to new experiences as long as they don’t involve pain, so I eagerly took up the offer to view the aforementioned spider. Together we trotted round the back of the house to the dish. I wouldn’t have known where to look for an LNB, whether with or without spider, so Gary helpfully pointed it out to me – and there, right in the middle of the middle of the mysterious gubbins that points back at the dish was a small blob! ‘That’s your spider.’ He uttered triumphantly. I felt quite sorry for the spider – it looked so comfy in its little abode. But it didn’t have a resident’s permit, so it had to go!

Inheritance tax has been reduced
Question: Is it true that inheritance tax has been reduced in Andalucía? Answer: Yes it is true, and the new exemptions are valid for deaths after the 1st of January of 2017. Exemptions have been increased for group I and II heirs (spouse and descendants). They have increased for spouse and descendants from 175,000€ to 250,000€. Just as important is that, unlike the old system where if you received one euro more than 175,000€ you would only be entitled to 16,000€ exemption (in other words basically no exempt amount), under the new system you do not lose the exemption completely if the inheritance is over 250,000€. What happens is that they allow you an exemption of the first 200,000€ and then charge you on the difference. But be very careful, if a descendent or wife receives one euro more than 350,000€ then you will lose your right to the exemption completely. Conclusion for tax planning: Each beneficiary (spouse or descendent) must not receive more than 350,000€. All of the above only applies to spouse and descendants. All other beneficiaries get a much worse tax deal. Exemptions for inheritance of family home and family businesses have also been increased. Michael Davies. Abogado. Semana Santa, like any other festival, has its own special flavours and this is especially during this week because traditionally Catholics are not supposed to eat meat. A great time for seafood. The exact dishes will vary to some degree depending on where you are celebrating in Andalucia. However, you can expect local "Menus of the
Day" to feature fish and vegetables. The Andalucian garbanzos con bacalao (chickpea and cod stew) is a favourite in many areas as well as a vegetarian dish called garbanzos con espinacas (chickpeas with spinach, which usually has a lot of garlic and is a wonderfully tasty way to eat spinach). are available in local pastelerias. A favourite dessert during Holy Week in Andalucia is rice pudding, arroz con leche, and you can expect most local bakeries to be offering torrijas. These are slices of bread dipped in egg then soaked in wine or milk, fried and sweetened with sugar and sprinkled with cinnamon. Another typical sweet at this time
of year is the pestiño (fried, honeyglazed pastries). It's worth asking locals of any village you visit to point out their favourite Holy Week specials on any menu or at the bakery. You may have the once-a-year chance to try things most tourists miss out on. It's also a great way to practice your Spanish and mix with the locals, as food is one of the Spaniard's most loved topics of conversation!

Wildlife photographer captures rare sight of lion cubs just a few hours old
It looks like the perfect image of a mother’s love – a newborn lion cub nuzzling its mother for protection. The sight of the tiny cub and its two siblings, thought to be just hours old, out in the open so young is rare and was immortalised by British wildlife photographer Vince Burton on a safari trip to Kenya. But the tale had a tragic end, with the cubs killed just a few days later by the male in their pride. Vince, 40, spotted the three young cubs during a trip in the Masai Mara. “Under the slight cover of the small bushes, lay a lioness and beside her were three tiny cubs, only a few hours old, judging by their still wet fur,” he said. “They were completely helpless,
with their eyes tightly shut. Our guide was as amazed as we were, to see such young cubs out in the open. “In over 20 years of being a safari guide, he had never seen cubs as young as this.” Vince and his companions watched as the lioness cleaned the cubs, with a second lioness nearby as well as a single large male. “Our guide informed us that this was a newly-formed pride. They had been together for the past two months but what had brought them together nobody knew.” The group visited the cubs again the next day, when they noticed that the male lion was taking no interest in the cubs. The day after, they heard that the cubs had been
killed. “News had arrived that the male lion had attacked the defenceless cubs during the night,” said Vince. “Two had been killed instantly and the third was missing, unlikely to have survived. “The lioness battled to save her babies, however the male was much larger and stronger and she was injured for her bravery. It was quite emotional to hear.

The Lagoon of seven colors The lagoon extends quietly and picturesque next to the village of Bacalar as a perfect scenario for adventure and nature lovers. Bacalar has a lot of history to tell; it was the scenario of multiple clashes between Mayans and Spaniards and later became victims of English, French and Dutch pirates. The lagoon is only twenty minutes from Chetumal, the capital city of the State, and it is one of the main attractions in Bacalar, because visitors can swim, rent motor or sail boats and also kayak here. Spending a day admiring the charming flora and fauna of the area. RIDE ON THE LAGOON The lagoon is the main attraction of the village. It is called the lagoon of seven colors because of the differences in the bottom soils, the difference of depths and the variation in the intensity of the sun rays; all this makes that the water reflects seven different shades of blue. Enjoy the incomparable landscape by boat, kayak, sailboat or Jet Ski. See the contrast of the lush vegetation surrounding the waters and let yourself be lulled by the birds singing, which will make this a magical experience. BECOME A PIRATE Take the chance to navigate the rapids flowing into the Hondo River or into the estuary of Chac, the same way as the pirates did in their time. RENEW YOUR BODY AND SOUL IN T HE LAGOON Find in Bacalar an ideal place for relaxation: the energy transmitted fills you with an inexplicable sense of peace and tranquility. Let the elements of nature help this healing experience.
Playa del Carmen Cirque du Soleil
Powder White Sand
Cirque du Soleil are found in the Riviera Maya a fantastic site to establish a show that brings together the wonders of this circus company with the history, culture, nature and characters of Mexico. Let your imagination run wild and immerse yourself in the history of Joya, where by means of hallucinating effects and scenographies you will feel part of history itself. Enjoy to the maximum the dances, music, colors and flavors that transport you to pre-Hispanic Mexico, which fused with amazing creativity.
Playa del Carmen is one of the favorite destinations for vacation, especially in summer, according to Trip Advisor, as it is an idyllic place located in the heart of the Riviera Maya with fine white sand and blue-green waters, you will always find a Hammock and an umbrella to sunbathe and rest, especially in the edge of town that offers the quietest beach areas. If you prefer action, in Playa del Carmen you will find water activities such as windsurfing, jet skis, kayaking or diving in the impressive Mayan coral reef. Great musicians of Mexican and international jazz offer concerts every year. The beauty of the beaches and the many activities that Playa del Carmen has for you will force you to come back.
The Underwater Art Museum (MUSA) seeks to demonstrate the coexistence between art and the environment. It consists of pieces of a special marine concrete which facilitates the creation of corals on its surface placed on the seabed and which have become a refuge for marine life in the form of artificial reefs. Marvel at the more than 500 sculptures that the MUSA has permanently submerged. Examine the sculptures fixed to the bottom of the sea in an area of more than 420 square meters with its more than 200 tons of art. Discover the two galleries that make up the museum: Manchones and Punta Nizuc. In addition, if you do not want to get wet, you can opt for the visit aboard the glass bottom boat. It is a boat with crystals on the sides where you can see a fragment of the second largest barrier reef in the world, turtles, parrot fish, angel fish and many other wonders.

Fuerteventura Discover The Island
LETS Travel
Roquetas de Mar is known not only for it’s fishing village traditions which are carried on today through gastronomy and annual festivals, but also for its fame as a resort town. Within the municipality of Roquetas el Mar is the famous “Aguadulce” (Fresh Water) resort – one of the first tourist resorts established in Spain in the 1960’s and has been classified as a Centre of National Touristic Interest. The municipality also borders or includes important nature reserves and natural parks. The village of Roquetas de Mar offers sightseers the 18th century Our Lady of the Rosary Church (Iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Rosario), the 16th century Santa Ana Castle, Roman remains and the Santa Ana lighthouse among other examples of local architecture and historical remains. If it’s archaeology that interests you, the town does have remains dating back before the advent of Roman rule in Spain.
Water sports are very popular in Fuerteventura. Every year hundreds of surfers, windsurfers, kitesurfers, and divers descend on Fuerteventura and during July the island is host to the P.W.A world windsurfing speed and slalom event at Sotavento in the south. There are many new attractions inviting tourists to discover different aspects of the Island’s landscape and culture such as the Betancuria Museum of Archaeology and Ethnography and Tefia Craft Village to name but a few. Fuerteventura has miles and miles of broad sandy beaches and golden sand dunes make Fuerteventura the ideal holiday resort for everyone. There is no other island in the Canaries with as many enormous sand dunes and long sandy beaches (more than one hundred and fifty). Even though most of the land on Fuerteventura consists of stone and rock, this island has some of the most impressive beaches in the whole of Europe.

Best Luxury Performance Car?
“Alpha who? Except for a enthusiastic core of Alfisti, many of today’s car buyers haven’t heard of Alfa Romeo, let alone know how to spell it”
Alfa Romeo practically invented the sport sedan segment more than a half century ago. Its Giulia TI sedan was every bit the dynamic equivalent of the brand’s sports cars and roadsters. But a two-
decade-long time-out from the U.S. market led to Alfa Romeo dropping out of the new-car conversation. Now, that’s about to change. Alfa Romeo is back, baby, and the $72,000 Quadrifoglio is the all-in performance variant of Alfa’s brand-new Giulia luxury sedan. With a Ferrari-derived 505-horsepower twin-turbo V6 lurking under its carbonfiber hood, it can storm from rest to 60 miles per hour in 3.8 seconds, about the time it takes to say “the 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio.” Alfa claims the Quadrifoglio tops out at a head-clearing 191 mph and
is the fastest four-door ever tested at Germany’s storied Nurburgring. In daily service, two rear doors add 5-passenger practicality, with a decentsized rear seat and trunk. Alfa’s Quadrifoglio also brings tasteful leather-and Alcantara trim, up-to-date infotainment with navigation and an 8.8-inch touchscreen and the latest safety tech such as dynamic cruise control with full stop, lanedeparture warning and blind spot and rear cross-traffic monitoring. Practical, sure, but what the Quadrifoglio is really about involves a big red “start” button on the steering wheel. Push that, turn the console-mounted
DNA switch to Race mode and exercise the car’s active suspension, torque-vectoring differential, and Brembo high-performance brakes to the epic crackle and pop of the dual-mode, quadoutlet exhaust. Dynamic engagement is what makes this car and its driver feel so alive. It took on some longtime favorites but the New York Daily News Autos team of experts concur that the allnew 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio is the top choice among performance luxury cars. If you want to also consider additional wellregarded entries, here is a list of alternative offerings worthy of your consideration, listed in Alfabetical order.
Suzuki GSX250R Price Announced The Suzuki will compete with the likes of KTM’s sporty single-cylinder RC390, which costs £4,999 and the class pioneer, Kawasaki’s Ninja 300, which retails for £4,799. On price at least, the Suzuki has the KTM and Kawasaki beat. But what about the rest of the class? We’ve had a look through MCNbikesforsale. com and found these A2 sportsbikes currently up for sale. Yamaha R3, £3,795. The R3 is a credible, genuine, practical sportsbike that has the ability to entertain even the most sceptical old goat of a
motorcyclist. Are you looking at a future legend? If enough riders are swayed by its charms then you may well be doing just that. The Yamaha provides a great balance of fun and practicality. The CBR300R holds its own in traffic, offering plenty of torque for such a small, light bike. It might lack the power of Kawasaki’s Ninja 300, but that torque makes for an enjoyable ride. A much better option than the CBR250R it replaced.

19th Hole Golf Society, Match Report
On Thursday 6th April the Aguilon Golf Resort hosted 47 members and guests of the 19th Hole Golf Society to play a 4 Ball Waltz and an Individual Stableford Competition.
As always the course was in near perfect condition with Greens with such subtle burrows Pythagaras would find difficulty in working out the angles. Karyn Esposito made light of any difficulties thrown at her by this demanding course, winning the Individual Competition by a fair country mile, scoring 45 points, and helped her team of Zeta Denyer, Richard & Beverly Reader secure second place in the Waltz scoring 85 points. Chris Gledhill’s team of Vince Swain, John Kennedy and David Wadey took the win with a massive 90 points with the Team of Nigel Greenwood, Paco Ocaña Grajal, Steve Tucker and Ellen Lea in third place with 81 points. Steve Tucker registered his first individual success in two years of playing with the 19th Hole by taking a Nearest the Pin and converting it into a Two on the water protected 14th Hole. Octogenarian Ron (The Rocket) Curtis grabbed a Nearest the Pin on the tricky 8th Hole. Result:Waltz 1st Chris Gledhill, Vince Swain, John

Antoine Griezmann scored a late equaliser in the Madrid derby as Atletico held La Liga leaders Real. Real took a deserved lead when Pepe, who later went off injured with broken ribs, headed home Toni Kroos’ free-kick. The European champions continued to dominate but without really testing keeper Jan Oblak on too many occasions. And Griezmann levelled for third-placed Atletico when he slid home Angel Correa’s through ball. Real are three points clear at the top of La Liga, with a game in hand on Barcelona, after Barca’s 2-0 defeat at Malaga later on Saturday. On the balance of play, Real should have won the derby - with Karim Benzema forcing a good first-half save from Oblak and defender Stefan Savic brilliantly clearing Cristiano Ronaldo’s shot off the line.
