BREXIT FIGHTBACK

A roundtable event at the European Parliament offices in central Madrid, was attended by British expats, Spanish citizens, politicians, academics and journalists, all of whom are equally as concerned by Brexit, and who were there to hear a panel of experts discuss what the process could mean for them and for their countries’ joint futures. The event was organized by Eurocitizens, one of many campaigning groups to have sprung up across Europe ever since British voters decided that

The organization, run by long-term residents of Spain, says it is not trying to turn the clock back on the Brexit vote, but rather campaign to preserve the rights of Britons in Spain and Spaniards in the United Kingdom, during what will no doubt be an extremely longdrawn-out negotiation process as country extricates itself from the EU. British fugitive caught

A BRITISH fugitive described as “very dangerous” in a police appeal last year has been captured in Benidorm. Officers detained Gareth Bryan Edwards as he entered a pub in the holiday resort after seeing he bore a striking resemblance to the man on the run pictured in the Crimestoppers-style Spanish alert last November. Local reports said the

25-year-old showed them a passport with the photo of another man on it – and then fled the scene as they put him in a patrol car to take him to a local station so they could confirm their suspicions it was him. He was tracked down to an empty swimming pool in a nearby apartment block and his identity subsequently confirmed with a fingerprint

test. Spanish police appealed last November for the public’s help in catching Edwards. They said they suspected the British fugitive, from Aylesbury, Bucks, was hiding out in Spain as they named him in a crimestoppers-style alert alongside nine other wanted men including drugs dealers and killers from Europe and North Africa. They said in a statement at the time Edwards was wanted by the British authorities for “crimes of robbery with violence and intimidation” carrying a “maximum punishment of three life sentences.” The statement said: “Gareth Bryan Edwards, 25, from Aylesbury in the United Kingdom. “Wanted by the British authorities through a European Arrest Warrant with a maximum anticipated punishment of three life sentences for the crimes of robbery with violence and intimidation.

Refugees saved

Eight Iraqi refugees, including four children, were found crammed inside a refrigerated truck in a service area in eastern Spain, police said Saturday, adding that they had been trying to reach Britain. The four adults and four children, aged two, five, eight, and 10, were all in good health, Spanish police said on Saturday. “After we received an anonymous call, on Friday, agents from the Spanish police opened the back of a refrigerated truck in a lay-by on the A23 motorway and found eight Iraqis inside, all in perfect health,” police said. None of the refugees carried identification, but police said they

were able to determine that all were Iraqi nationals. The occupants included one family of two adults and three children, another family of a woman with a twoyear-old daughter, and a man travelling alone. It wasn’t immediately clear how long they had spent inside the truck, but police said they were on their way to Britain when their truck was intercepted in the eastern province of Teruel. “We do not know yet how these Iraqi families came to be in Spain,” police said. The driver, a 37-yearold Romanian national, was arrested on charges of human trafficking.

Ronaldo has boys on the way Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo has got the rumour mills in overdrive with baby news despite remaining tightlipped about his personal life. After welcoming his first son Cristiano Jr in 2010, reports now claim that the 32-year-old is expecting twin boys via an American surrogate. When the Portuguese international had Cristiano Jr there were similar reports that suggested the use of a surrogate. According to reports, sources claimed that Ronaldo and his family are set to welcome the newest members of their family “very soon”. He has even planned to have the babies flown to his £5m mansion on the outskirts of Madrid when they are born, reports said. “Cristiano and his family can’t wait to meet the new members of their clan,” “He likes to keep a tight lid on his private life but has told loved ones and close friends the baby boys are due to arrive very soon.”

Germany to play Spain Germany will kick off 2018 with friendlies against Spain and Brazil as the reigning world champions prepare for their title defence at the World Cup in Russia a few months later. The German Football Association (DFB) said they will host Spain on March 23 in Dusseldorf and then take on Brazil four days later in Berlin. The DFB said it was a request from the team’s coaching staff to secure top opponents for their few opportunities for friendly matches ahead of the World Cup. ‘The matches will certainly offer a taste of what is to come at the World Cup in Russia.‘ Grindel said.

A hard Brexit could cost the Spanish economy €1bn (£870m) in lost exports and have “innumerable repercussions” for the 800,000 Britons who live in Spain and the 300,000 Spaniards in the UK, according to a leaked Madrid report. Written for the Spanish government’s Brexit commission the report says the UK’s departure from the EU will leave Spain hugely exposed economically and will affect everything from fishing rights to the careers of Spanish footballers playing for British clubs.

Tremor Felt

An earthquake of just 4 or 5 seconds long, was felt in Torrevieja at 11:48am The five seconds and 3 points on the Richter scale earthquake has been felt in Torrevieja today, 9th of march 2017, at around 11:48 a.m. The epicentre of this earthquake has been located at Torrevieja and 10 kilometres deep. No damage has been caused at all apart from the surprise and nerviosism of those Torrevieja citizens who felt the tremor. This Earthquake, causing great alarm among people who are afraid to hear how the glass of the windows of their

Hard Brexit could cost Spain €1bn

houses shaking. Almost two centuries ago Torrevieja was devastated by an earthquake. On the 21th of March 1829, a 6,6 point on the Richter scale earthquake destroyed Torrevieja and many villages of the Vega Baja. As a result, 389 people died, 32 of which died in Torrevieja. The church collapsed and 534 houses tumbled down. The area of the Bajo Segura is settled on three faults: the one Benejúzar-Benijófar, the Guardamar one and the Torrevieja one. The Alicante coast is 10 metres under the Torrevieja fault.

It says Brexit will see Spain’s GDP fall by between €2bn and €4bn, force the country to increase its EU budget contributions by €888m, and could result in some regions losing their European funding. Tourism and the food, pharmaceutical and automotive industries will be hit the hardest, with exports forecast to drop by between €500m and €1bn. The report says that well-known Spanish companies with significant UK operations, such as Banco Santander, Telefónica and the energy giant Iberdrola, would suffer if the pound weakened

and the UK’s rating were lowered after Brexit. The paper goes on to suggest Brexit will have an impact on Gibraltar, migration policy, agriculture, universities “and could affect Spanish footballers in the UK”. Britons constitute the third largest national foreign group living in Spain after Romanians and Moroccans. The report argues that Brussels needs to consider Spanish interests – such as social security, free movement and tourism – when negotiating with the UK.

Huge Chinese Eel smuggling ring busted

Police have broken up an international network which illegally smuggled baby eels to China, where they are considered a delicacy with aphrodisiac qualities. It’s estimated that the gang made at least £5 million every year, laundering the proceeds and in some instances being paid with gold bars. The police operation was carried out by Spain’s environmental protection squad and involved officers from Portugal, Italy, France, Greece and United Kingdom. They suspected a company based in the Spanish city of Tarragona, and first investigated in 2012 whether it was behind the smuggling. Eight people were arrested in the city, as well as in Seville and Valencia, plus another nine in Greece. They have been charged with smuggling, forging documents, crimes against wildlife, and money laundering. Two of those arrested in Spain are Chinese

who had contacts in their home country who arranged for the money to be sent from Hong Kong to avoid detection. Nine houses and business premises were raided in Spain when about two tons of live baby eels, or angulas as they are known, were seized. Police also found a huge amount of documents, computer equipment, more than €300,000 in cash, luxury vehicles and gold bars. Another €240,000 was seized from Chinese members of the group. ‘The Civil Guard discovered that the Spanish company acquired legally and illegally fished eels in the Spanish territory,’ said a spokesman. ‘Added to these were eels sourced from French, Portuguese and Italian citizens, without asking about their origin.’

Mars bars price Increase? A top executive at global food giant Mars has warned that a hard-Brexit would increase the prices of its products. Fiona Dawson, president of global food, drinks and multisales at the US firm, will warn that a UK departure from the European Union without a trade deal would result in higher prices as well as jeopardising jobs. In a speech to the American Chamber of Commerce to the European Union later on Friday, she will say the cost of trade barriers would inevitably flow through to consumers and threaten its Europe-wide supply chain. Ms Dawson’s remarks are an attempt to shift the

spotlight of the Brexit debate - which has so far focused on financial services and car making - on to the food and drink sector. It is the largest manufacturing sector in the UK, accounting for 16% of manufacturing turnover, almost as much as the car and aerospace industries combined, she said. Mars - maker of brands including Snickers, Maltesers, Uncle Ben’s, Dolmio and Whiskas - employs more than 18,000 people across Europe, including 3,800 in the UK. Its network of sites and factories relies on the absence of tariff, customs and other trade barriers as it moves raw materials across

borders and shifts products finished in one country to be packaged, distributed and sold in others. Ms Dawson will say: “The return of those barriers would create higher costs which would threaten that supply chain and the jobs that come with it.” Consumers would also be hit under this scenario - assuming the UK falls back onto World Trade Organisation rules. That would mean trade tariffs of 30% in confectionery, 20% for animal products, over 15% for cereals and more than 10% for fish and fruit, Ms Dawson will say in her speech.

A massive statue found in a Cairo slum is probably of pharaoh Ramses II, who ruled Egypt 3,000 years ago. Archaeologists came across the eight-metre statue in ground water in the eastern part of modern-day Cairo last week.

The Egyptian Antiquities Ministry is calling the find, made near the ruins of Ramses II’s temple in the ancient city of Heliopolis, one of the most important discoveries ever. The most powerful and celebrated ruler of ancient Egypt, the pharaoh

also known as Ramses the Great was the third of the Nineteenth Dynasty of Egypt and ruled from 1279 to 1213 BC. The find could be a boon for Egypt’s tourism industry, which has suffered since the uprising that toppled autocrat Hosni Mubarak in 2011.

Thousands march to seek more public funding for schools Thousands of high school and university students have marched in cities across Spain to urge the government to invest more in education and to repeal a controversial education bill. The protests were called by the State Platform in Defence of Public Education, which includes associations of parents and students, as well as teachers’ unions. In Madrid, around 2,000 students marched, blaming the government for budget cuts and reduced funding for scholarships. Social backlash and political opposition halted implementation of a 2013 education bill that was introduced by the conservative Popular Party as a way to improve quality and reduce dropout rates in schools. Education Minister Inigo Mendez de Vigo said Thursday he saw no reason for the strike because the government was working in parliament to agree on further regulatory changes.

A UK BOOKIES refused to pay out when an unbelievable treble on Barcelona v Paris Saint-Germain appeared to come in. Twitter user @DavidReid placed a bet with BetVictor on Messi scoring a penalty, Cavani hitting the woodwork and Barcelona qualifying yesterday. BetVictor priced up the accumulator at 125/1. David couldn’t believe his luck when Barca pulled off the greatest comeback in history to beat PSG. Messi did score a pen and Cavani did clip the woodwork. So Celtic fan David couldn’t understand when the bet settled as a “no winner”. He contacted BetVictor on Twitter – who insisted Cavani didn’t hit the woodwork. Baffled David pressed the gambling site – insisting he did. But BetVictor explained under its rules, the ball has to stay in play to count as “hitting the woodwork”. The bookies tweeted: “The ball went out of play after he hit the woodwork, under our rules, it has to stay in play mate.” The rule has angered twitter users

with many attacking the site for being so tight. After their stingy tweet was shared more than 2,000 times, BetVictor finally agreed to pay out on the bet. In a statement published on their website, BetVictor said: “We accepted a small number of bets on a #PriceItUp market, ‘Messi to score a penalty, Cavani to hit the woodwork and Barca to qualify’ at 125/1 in the Barcelona v PSG Champions League match. “Customers request this type of tailored bet via Twitter and our Trading and Social Media teams price up the requests and reply to customers. “We settled these particular bets as losers, as under our betting rules for #PriceItUp, which are listed on our website, we have the following rule regarding woodworkrelated bets: ‘’For any bets involving players hitting the woodwork, the following rule will be applied: “The ball must make contact with the woodwork and come back in play from an attempt on the opponent’s goal during active play.

Optimize Your Welcome Emails

Sure, welcome emails are vital. They help acquire that critical feeling of trust that anchors a stronger customer relationship. Research by ReturnPath even shows that welcome messages not only boost engagement but predict long-term subscriber behavior and revenue potential. But the blank page is always nerve-racking, especially when you’re trying so hard to create a really great first impression. So we’ve gathered examples of 5 different types of welcome emails that many businesses use — with copy templates you can use and adapt to get

started. 5 Types of Welcome Emails1 Welcomes arise in many situations. People meet businesses in many different ways — which calls for more than one type of email greeting. Here’s a rundown of the different type of welcome emails: General product / service: The basic welcome message from a business, app, or website once you sign up for an account. Newsletter Subscription: A welcome to your marketing world, whether the goal is to nurture leads, build an

audience, e n g a g e e x i s t i n g customers, or promote sales. Personal outreach: New signups automatically receive a personal welcome email from someone in the company. This has become a standard email practice for many startups. The following 2 types are less common but still important to categorize as welcome emails and treat with the same care. Free Sample Welcome: Companies often offer free content in exchange for an email address — it’s just as crucial to make a memorable first impression here. Invitation: When a teammate or group member invites others to a product or service. First, review our tactics for how to create a trustworthy first impression plus the 3-part Princess Bride formula you need in all welcome emails. Also consider the context,

timing, and flow of your welcome emails — in relationship with each other and other messages. For example, if you have a verification step to confirm an email address, will that be in a separate email or combined with the welcome message? What’s the action that triggers the welcome — a signup, purchase, promotion, or contest — and how will that inform your approach? Evernote’s welcome email is short but gets all the right points across, telling you why it exists, how it will help you, and a clear CTA. What’s the most important action for the reader to take next? In your quest to be helpful and informative, don’t bury the next step. REVIEWS FILM OF THE WEEK The Shack PG-13 2h 12min Drama, Fantasy 9 June 2017 (UK) After the abduction and assumed death of Mackenzie Allen Phillip’s youngest daughter, Missy, Mack receives a letter and has the suspicion it’s from God asking him to return to The Shack where Missy may have been murdered. After contemplating it, he leaves his home to go to The Shack for the first time since Missy’s abduction and encounters what will change his life forever. When things go bad we all blame God or the universe for what happens and The Shack doesn’t provide easy answers. The standout scene is when Mack is taken for judgment by “Wisdom” (Alice Braga) and asked if he would condemn his late, abusive father to Hell even after he is shown what his father’s upbringing was like. The Shack is a little heavy handed and the story is pretty straightforward but, liked the uplifting message.

Kourtney gets four-yearold daughter’s lip pierced!

Can optimism make you live longer?

The 37-year-old beauty has shocked her followers by revealing the little girl’s piercing via Instagram, posting a snap of her comforting Penelope. Kourtney said the lip ring was a gift from her younger sister Kim Kardashian West. Of course it was… Kourtney captioned the shocking snap: “Our Oscar Sunday. Yes, that’s a lip ring. Thanks @kimkardashian.” Would a mother really allow this to be done to her tot? Who carried out the procedure? Did Kourtney sterilize a needle on the gas hob and hold ice to her daughter’s lip? We doubt it. The Kardashian family are known for setting trends but this seems extreme even by their standards and fans didn’t know what to make of it. In the photo, Kourtney – who also shares Mason, seven, and Reign, two, with her ex-partner Scott Disick – is seen wearing a white bathrobe as her daughter rests on her left shoulder. One penned below the picture: “Why don’t you just add a belly button ring too”.

Optimism brings its own rewards – it is linked to a host of health benefits. A recent paper in the American Journal of Epidemiology of more than 70,000 women found that optimists were less likely than pessimists to die from cancer, heart disease, stroke, lung conditions or infections during the eight-year study period. The women were aged between 58 and 83, and the researchers took into account other factors such as

economic status, diabetes, high blood pressure and depression. Levels were measured by asking the women how optimistic they felt on a scale of zero to 24. Optimism is considered a personality trait – a belief that life is likely to turn out well as opposed to badly and optimists will expect good outcomes even when life is tough. This study joins a host of others including a meta-analysis of more than

80 studies that associate optimism with better health. A study from the University of Illinois of more than 5,100 people found that those who were most optimistic were twice as likely to have a good “cardiovascular score” based on criteria such as cholesterol and glucose levels, physical activity, blood pressure and weight. And it seems optimism doesn’t set people up for disappointment – studies show it provides resilience

Call Dr Machi Mannu:

A 16-month-old boy who was born with five thumbs has been given back the use of his hands after doctors removed the extra fingers in an amazing surgery. Little Kyrie Carter, from Fresno, California, was born with two thumbs on his right hand and three thumbs on his left hand. Last month, he underwent an incredible surgery where the thumbs on his right hand were fused together while an earlier surgery removed the extra digits on his left hand. Back in August, Kyrie had surgery to remove the additional thumbs on his left hand. Last month, his parents brought him in to Valley Children’s Hospital for surgery on the other hand. Kyrie’s two right thumbs were really one split thumb, said Dr Mimi Chao, the lead paediatric surgeon for the infant’s procedure. In the womb, a baby’s hand starts out in the shape of a mitten or paddle, and tissue dies back to create individual fingers around week six or seven of pregnancy. However, if the tissue doesn’t die back enough, a child is born with webbed fingers. And if the tissue dies where it’s not supposed to, the finger splits - resulting in what appears to be two or more fingers. Around one in 1,000 babies is born with additional fingers and it’s even rarer to see multiple children in one family with the condition, as exists in Kyrie’s case. Four of Kyrie’s siblings were born with extra fingers, but none of them have ever had surgery.

against distress. In people with head and neck cancer, the more optimistic reported a better quality of life regardless of the stage of the condition. Women who were optimists beforehand also coped better with the disappointment of failed IVF. The research finds that optimists don’t just expect good things will happen – they actively take steps to make them happen. They lead healthier lives because they believe it will benefit them. It is hypothesised (without much evidence) that optimists feel less negativity and so produce fewer bursts of stress-related hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline that could increase blood pressure. But while a physiological pathway for the benefits of optimism may be hard to find, learning it is easier. Tips include keeping a diary of things for which you feel grateful and persisting at solving problems instead of feeling it’s all too difficult. Try reframing the explanations for what happens so that the answer isn’t always that it’s your fault. If that fails, just make friends with an optimist – as that can help, too.

Is it possible to be healthy and obese?

Does stress make you fat, even if you don’t overeat? That is the question researchers from UCL have been trying to answer by giving volunteers of different shapes and sizes a haircut and measuring levels of the stress hormone cortisol in

their hair. Long-term stress raises cortisol levels, and the researchers found that the larger volunteers had higher levels in their hair. So does this mean we can attribute obesity to stress and, if so, what can we do about it? The idea itself isn’t new.

Cortisol is produced by the adrenal glands that sit on top of the kidneys. It plays a vital role in keeping glucose levels in the bloodstream in a steady state. When we are stressed or threatened, cortisol levels rise to release more glucose from stores in the liver, so we have more fuel to fight or run for our lives. Too much cortisol means too much glucose floating around and if it doesn’t get used, the excess is stored as fat. But it has been hard to measure long-term cortisol levels reliably because they fluctuate over time. Traditionally, they have been measured in blood, urine or saliva but this new

study used hair cut as close to the scalp as possible to measure accumulated levels over a two-month period. Researchers found that obese individuals with a BMI in excess of 30, or waist circumference above 102cm (40in) in men and 88cm (35in) in women, had the highest cortisol levels. Dr Sarah Jackson, of UCL’s Institute of Epidemiology and Health Care, explained: “People who had higher hair cortisol levels also tended to have larger waist measurements, which is important because carrying excess fat around the abdomen is a risk factor for heart disease, diabetes, and premature death.”

Find the right shampoo for your hair

Shampoo and conditioner are the unsung heroes of the haircare industry. But unless you’ve found ones that have truly changed your hair, it’s likely that you pick up whatever is on offer at the supermarket and don’t give it a second thought. Yet the right shampoo makes your hair infinitely easier to style and maintain. A good formula will cleanse your scalp and remove leftover styling products, dirt and excess oil without stripping it dry and leaving it flaky or itchy. Unfortunately, there is no precise method to finding your perfect shampoo, but there are a few things that can really help. If you want to boost the shine or reduce frizz, then up the ante with your

conditioner and invest in a good mask, such as Josh Wood’s Glossing Mask, and Living Proof Restore Mask Treatment. While those with thicker hair might benefit from smoothing formulas, if you have finer locks, any ingredients designed to do anything except cleanse will only weigh your hair down. On the same note, unless you have afro or naturally coarse hair, two-in-ones or cleansing conditioners should be avoided. Instead, fine-hair types should look to Kérastase’s Cristalliste shampoo, which leaves locks feeling lighter at the roots without drying out your mid-lengths and ends. Also, invest in Color Wow Color Security Conditioner Fine to Normal Hair, from £9.

Sales@soltimes.com 950 121 936 Apple Tree Yard TV Drama 2017

“Dear X whatever it was between us it was never meant to bear much reality. That was the point, wasn’t it? No real life. No feelings, no mess.” I had read Louise Doughty’s book and wasn’t disappointed with this tv drama which is available to buy on dvd produced by Doughty, Lucy Richer, Manda Lewin and Amanda Coe. It was Doughty’s seventh novel. “Crazy Paving” was her debut novel back in 1995. Her sixth novel took the media by storm:”Whatever You Love” pulling her sharply in focus as one to watch and this has proved the case with Apple Tree Yard. It stars Emily Watson as Dr Yvonne Carmichael, an eminent scientist who lives a conventional suburban life in a comfortable and stable marriage but sexless and at 50+ it seems that Yvonne would like some excitement and danger to spice up her life. She addresses a Select Committee on a subject she is knowledgeable aboutDNA gene therapy. One of the security men chatted to her after the meeting, congratulating her and then offers to show her the chapel in the crypt, in particular a plaque from Emily Wilding Davison in 1911 using the House of Commons as her home address. She died when she threw herself in front of a horse. There is an instant attraction between Yvonne and Mark Costley, nameless at this stage. Passionate kissing in the broom cupboard soon leads to a quick sexual encounter. Slap, bang, wallop and it’s over in minutes leaving Yvonne stunned. It seems totally out of character for her to do this. She is middle-aged and relatively happy with husband Gary played by Mark Bonner who has been on our screens a lot recently, a bit self-conscious of the ageing process in feeling less sexy and no longer a beauty. “I look like a bloody jelly baby” she tells him. I disagree. She still looks beautiful. At home she starts typing a series of letters to X when she can’t sleep at night, restless. He will never read them but that doesn’t matter. She has committed what she sees as being a “most reckless act”

Special Offers Visit:

describing her lover as a wolf devouring her. Her friend Suze (Susan Lynch) has nicknamed her Captain Sensible and refers to Yvonne’s marriage as being “rock solid.” If only she knew the truth. Yvonne does try to break off the relationship in case their spouses or families get hurt. She does discover that her husband has an admirer who is obsessed with him, Rosa and he has a fling with her. Perhaps it’s this or their lack of physical contact that pushes Yvonne over the edge but she is soon enticed back to her lover’s arms, finding him irresistible. It is Ben Chaplin after all. The camera shows us a close up of their fore-play followed by sex in a toilet cubicle. He seems to enjoy sex in sordid, public places. Yvonne revels in her secretive and exciting life with her mysterious lover. We are then introduced to one of her colleagues, George Selway who she has known for two years. He seems harmless enough. But wait. “Fear makes animals of us all. But, really, we’re all just animals. Fear. Fear for your life. Civilisation is a dream.” When Yvonne goes to Jonathan’s leaving do, the confident sexy lady gets herself dolled up, with high heels and a tight dress to show off her curves. We see her looking coquettish with her lover in Apple Tree Yard before going on to the do. She is convinced he is a spook which amuses her. Feeling smug she allows herself to get plastered. George takes advantage of her in his own office towards the end of the party; he thumps her then brutally rapes her telling her in so many words that she’s no better than a whore. Interestingly, we come to realise that Yvonne has fallen foul of the law because we then see her sitting in a courtroom. What happened is for you discover for yourself. Compelling viewing. Horrifying and shocking at times to witness. It shows avarice, ambition mixed with naivety and self-deception. For anyone who loves thrillers this is certainly for you.

Hello and welcome to CanDu Computer Bytes. The only professional computer help that comes from over 38 years’ experience and a University education. You can contact me for an appointment at my workshop or I can come to you, by calling 689 892 745 or by Email: canducomputing@ hotmail.co.uk. Hi everyone! You will see, very soon, these articles are going to become a little shorter and will probably have to be spread over several weeks. You will see them ‘coming alive’ with pictures and useful links that will be bright and bold. This will make the articles, hopefully, clearer and easier to understand. So that is something to look forward too. Today you can look forward to finding out how to get ‘Google’ to stop firing so many adverts at you. As you may have noticed, Google is no longer a provider information through their search engines, but an advertising agency! Ads are an unfortunate necessity on the internet, but this is how sites can afford to be ‘free’! If you find personalized adverts a little too

creepy, you can tell Google to stop showing you personalized adverts. This will mean, however, that you will get random adverts instead! There are a number of ways to do this: Android and ‘iDevices’ have setting that can limit the adverts but ‘real’ computers don’t, so today I will show you how to limit the advertising, at source, on a ‘real’ computer. As many of you will have some kind of android device (phone, tablet, Internet TV …) then you will have a Google Email address. So.. Step 1. Turn on your computer and go to <https:// myaccount.google. com/> and type in your email address and password. Step 2. Under <Personal Info and Privacy> • <Ad Settings> • <Manage Ad Settings>. Here you will see a familiar ‘on/ off’ button which you set for ‘Off’. This will bring up one more ‘pop-up’ (another really annoying trend that will be covered another time) to let you know exactly what’s going to happen, and if you’re okay with that go ahead and tap “Turn off.” Step 3. Go to <https://adblockplus. org/>, download and install this free program that does what it says on the tin!

Modernise Your Home

Analyse your home and observe what areas of your home need modernizing. Often times the current condition of furniture and appliances makes us think that the home needs more work than really necessary. Look at the conditions of the walls of your home. If made with gypsum board and studs – light patching of holes and updating paint colour may do the trick. Concentrate on the house itself, not your belongings in the house. Flip through your favourite home magazine, or visit home websites that give you inspiration to find modern home detailing. Simple details like yellow light switch plates can date your home. Changing them

to white or a matching décor colour will instantly bring your room into the modern day. LIGHTING: Home light fixtures usually are made for the current times. Updating ceiling, sconces, and bathroom fixtures will modernize your space and possibly bring better and more efficient light to the space. Lighting fixtures may be able to be reduced or removed with the introduction of more natural light into a space. Consider adding skylights, and solar tubes into areas that once were dark. MATERIALS: Flooring, wall paper, kitchen/bath counters, and sinks/ bathtubs are an instant attraction of age. Since

these items are usually chosen by the current colours and patterns of the times, your home could be looking much older than you desire. Replace carpet if it is worn, discoloured, or is in an outdated colour. Remove dated wallpaper and replace with modern styled wallpaper or paint the walls instead. Often times an old brick wall can become a new accent wall with cleaning and restoring its original beauty. For kitchen and bathroom fixtures with outdated colours consider replacing with neutral colours. Consider re-facing counters and cabinetry to save on the expense of a major overhaul of your kitchen or bath. MODERNIZE: If you are tired of looking at the same outdated home, then modernizing can be for you and your family to enjoy a familiar home. On the other hand, home sellers may be updating their home to be able to put their home on the market, and boost up their appeal. Whichever your personal reason for modernizing, it’s a great idea to make your home safe, look better, and enjoyable again.

Home & Garden Tips

Hardwood decking

Hardwood decking has a rustic, naturally attractive look to it that faux paints or artwork merely struggle to replicate, thus offering you the authentic elegance of the real deal. Hardwood decking is also exceptionally strong and durable – Lyptus hardwood decking can hold a great deal of weight without coming close to buckling, making it ideal for supporting decking furniture and lighting. Hardwoods contain natural oils and can therefore cope

with the weather throughout the year. Wood can also be designed to counteract a sloping, uneven landscape in your garden, lending an impression of balance and uniformity across the length of your outdoor area; usually overcome with the help of steps and levels to your decking. Hardwood decking in general is a good choice for longevity, beauty, and overall performance. Hardwood has a proven track record, with some species lasting to 100 years.

Summer Houses There are lots of ways to make your garden more appealing when it comes to enjoying the outdoors. One of the best ways is to buy a summer house. This is a very different building to a shed, which is traditionally used for storage purposes and little else. A summer house is a place to relax and to enjoy

your garden. It can even be a superb place to enjoy a romantic meal for two – the choice is yours! We have a variety of different styles and sizes of summer houses for sale including: Dip Treated or Pressure Treated, Single Door or Double Door and Large Summer Houses. You can add colour too, by using colouful themes.

Get a Glam New Bedroom Look

What a view! Admittedly, only a lucky few can call an ocean front bedroom their own. However, this bedroom is not just about the view. In my opinion it perfectly interprets what I call the key elements of successful bedroom design: clean lines and uncluttered surfaces in combination with warm materials, rich textures and soothing colours. Add a few pools of light and you got yourself the perfect recipe for a cosy haven of relaxation. In this particular bedroom they took it a further notch up by adding the element of fire, creating a truly harmonious environment and perfect balance. When it comes to home decor and bedroom styling I like my room to depict a clean, fresh ambience and provide a good air flow. My bedroom is where I go to unwind and read and it’s important that the space correlates with my wellbeing and mood. I adore

neutral coloured bedrooms, with delicate pieces of furniture and accessories. Lighting and the ambience it provides is really important and I do recommend up to three different lighting focal points within a room, ranging from ceiling lights to bedside lamps. It’s also fun to play with a variety of different lightbulbs so that you can have a choice of whether to have a bright light on or something softer to suit your mood. Cushions and throws add character to a bedroom and provide different levels of texture which can make a room fabulous. I’m very fond of shabby chic furniture in a bedroom because it conveys a very romantic Parisian flair. With the correct accessories and a delicate neutral palette a glamorous shabby chic bedroom can be achieved and fabulously lived in.

Details for repossessions Nowadays the banks are the owners of a big part of the houses for sale in Spain. These repossessed houses come from developers’ bankruptcies and people that cannot afford the payment of their mortgages. The houses repossessed are products highly sought after by experienced investors in the property market in Spain. But anyone can buy a house repossessed. If you are looking for a bargain is a good option to take a look to the repossessed properties owned by the bank. Once the house is repossessed by the bank, it will try to sell it as soon as possible to avoid the costs linked to owning a property in Spain. The bank (generally) will consider any reasonable offer. Besides, buying a repossessed house to the bank is the best way to get a mortgage in the best terms. The banks are looking forward to get rid of these bargains and they are very open minded to listen your offer and give you the mortgage. But, as said above, be careful. Commonly when you ask for a mortgage to the bank, this one becomes an ally to check that everything is in order around the property you’re buying, but not in these cases. There are possible traps hidden like community of owners’ debts, local taxes unpaid, squatters in the property, ghost neighbourhoods... It’s a must checking the property. Once you have found a property that interests you, remember that foreclosed properties are sold under the principle of “caveat emptor”, therefore, is advisable inspect the property to evaluate its physical condition and determine possible repairs and costs. Obtain sales prices of comparable properties in the area through a real estate agent in Spain to determine how much should be your offer.

Why I love living in a Mediterranean climate Too many people believe that finding a job in Spain is some sort of dream and they believe all the problems that they have in their current situation in life will be solved by moving to the sunny climate of Spain. Many people arrive in Spain and take months to snap themselves out of holiday mode. By that time their money has dwindled and many find themselves in an extremely difficult financial situation. The purpose of this article is to give you some advantages to living and working in Spain as well as the disadvantages – so you can pursue your quest to find a job in Spain with a healthy dose of reality and not with your head in the clouds. This will make for a more successful relocation. Advantages of Living in Spain Certainly climate is by far the biggest reason people will look to find jobs in Spain. The weather and climate is much kinder than other Northern European countries. It should be pointed out that in the winter it certainly does get cold and many regions of Spain experience snow, ice and plenty of rain. Having said that, Spain has a mild climate and the ability to often wake up to clear blue skies and warm sunshine is a blessing.

At a glance Culture. Moving to Spain is a great cultural experience which will widen your horizons and that of your family. If you have children they will pick up and become fluent in Spanish and meet many nationalities and experience many cultural differences. Flights. Spain is a great choice if you’re looking for work because it is only a short flight away from the United Kingdom and other countries such as Germany and France. Usually in about 2½ hours you can be back in UK with one of the many cheap flights From Ryanair or EasyJet. Disadvantages to Living in Spain. Wages and salaries are much lower in Spain than in other more developed countries such as the United Kingdom, Germany and the USA. Although your immediate reaction is probably to think that the cost of living in Spain is much lower, that is something of a myth these days. Not only are wages low, hours are also very long because of the traditional siesta in the middle of the day, so many workers return to work around 4pm until mid evening at around 8pm.

High Gloss Kitchens add style

The clean lines and contemporary styling of a high gloss finish create a bold statement in any kitchen. The signature flat design and reflective surface can look great in a variety of finishes, from cool whites to vibrant reds. High gloss doors are easy to care for and extremely durable. For a thoroughly modern kitchen, there is surely no better choice than a gloss finish design. Whatever your kitchen size, a gloss kitchen can transform a dark, dull room into a vibrant, light space you’ll love to spend time in. Add a touch of traditionalism by pairing gloss units with wooden worktops. We offer gloss shaker kitchen designs, which is ideal for those who like to add a modern twist to a truly classic design. Lovers of bright colour schemes will adore the range of shades available. Blue gloss kitchens are ideal for those who want to add a retro style to the room. A statement gloss kitchen island, such as those found in the Linea range, is perfect for those seeking a head-turning design. How a kitchen looks is extremely

important so one of the primary reasons for choosing two tone kitchen cabinets is the aesthetic appeal of this style. Two tone kitchens offer great diversity within kitchen design enabling classic understated, or else out-of-the-ordinary designs, entirely dependent on the kitchen look you wish to create. The additional kitchen colour and/ or texture adds depth and visual appeal. This, combined with increased scope for creative and exciting designs, makes two tone kitchens the perfect option if looking for a kitchen with definite ‘wow’ factor! Two tone kitchen cabinets also work successfully within both traditional and modern kitchen styles so are an effective solution if you want to maintain a home’s existing theme. Perhaps you like modern kitchen finishes but feel they are ‘too modern’ for the house? You can solve this by incorporating a modern door finish such as gloss or matt lacquer with a conventional wood grain finish, toning down the contemporary feel to better suit our home’s character.

Seasonal food

WHAT IS SEASONAL FOOD? Fruit and vegetables naturally grow in cycles, and ripen during a certain season each year. When they are ripe, they are at their best nutritionally and taste wise. Cherries, for example, are ripe and juicy in June in the south of England; so cherries are ‘in season’ in June. British asparagus starts popping up in fields in the spring, tomatoes and red berries ripen in late summer, sweetcorn and pumpkins in the autumn, and cabbages and root vegetables reach their best in the winter months. If you eat ‘seasonally’, you are eating fruit and vegetables during the time of year they are naturally at their best. Modern technology means we can buy things like strawberries and apples in supermarkets all year round, but that’s because they are either being grown in greenhouses, or flown in from warmer countries where they are picked before they are ripe and can fully develop their flavours. HOW CAN I FIND OUT WHICH FOODS ARE IN SEASON? The easiest way is to get your hands on a decent seasonal chart that shows you which foods are at their best during which months. You can also look at www.eattheseasons.co.uk; it has lots of information about seasonal food in the UK and is updated weekly.

LAMB TIPS

Food Information Roast lamb accompanied by peas, mint and lettuce, this recipe captures Spring’s sweetness and freshness. Ingredients: 2 loins of lamb, boned, weighing 600g/1lb 4oz in total, salt and freshly ground black pepper, 2 tbsp vegetable oil, 2 rashers smoked streaky bacon, diced, 1 onion, diced, 500ml/1lb 2fl oz lamb stock, 110g/4oz peas, cooked, 50g/2oz butter, 1 Little Gem lettuce, shredded, 1 sprig

mint. Method: For the lamb, preheat the oven to 160C/325F/Gas 3. Season the lamb well with salt and pepper. Place a heavy-based, oven-proof frying pan over a medium heat. When it is hot, add one tablespoon of the vegetable oil. Put the lamb into the pan and colour it all over, turning it so that all sides brown evenly. Don’t rush this, the dish will have much more

flavour and a deeper colour if you take your time. Transfer the lamb, in the frying pan, to the oven, and bake for 8-10 minutes. Remove the lamb from the oven, take it out of the frying pan and set aside to rest for 10-15 minutes. In another frying pan over a medium heat, add the remaining vegetable oil and fry the bacon until crisp and golden-brown. Add the chopped onion and cook for a further two minutes. Then

foil if necessary. To make the salad, combine the fish sauce, caster sugar and lime juice in a small bowl. Roughly chop or tear the mint leaves and add to the bowl, together with the coriander leaves. Finely chop the chilli and add to the dressing. Slice the ends from the grapefruit, place it flat on the chopping board then slice away the peel and white pith a sharp kitchen knife. Remove the segments of flesh from the skin. Put the grapefruit into the dressing and leave for 10 minutes before adding the cashew nuts and serving, garnish and enjoy!

A big Costa Cobras welcome

S.F. Costa Cobras RFC are happy to welcome Old Brods Vets again to the area, this time playing Wondervra Vets at Elche on Saturday 18, kicking off at 16.00. They will then go to watch the last 6 Nations game, the Grand Slam decider for England. This week, the Cobras, and sponsors, will have received their shirts, which the players are going to wear for training and beach rugby tournaments. If you would like to purchase a shirt, another order will be sent in the next couple of weeks, so contact us on the number below. The response so far has been positive and the first order has nearly sold out. The club continues to grow steadily with more players joining us each week from the local areas. We have a nice mix of novice and experience, with youth and senior players, so no matter your ability or age, come along and join in the fun. Within the next couple of weeks, we hope to announce the club’s fun day, which aims to promote rugby in the local area in the hope of eventually setting up a variety of different age group teams. At the end of March there

will be another fun pub quiz, held at the Power Pub, which is being used as the club house. We are now training at the football ground in San Fulgencio on Monday and Wednesday from 20.30-22.00 and finishing off with a drink at the Power Pub, which we use as our club house after training and matches. All the players are training at the same time, but once we get more juniors and seniors we will be doing two separate sessions. Once again, everybody is welcome, from beginners to experienced players, the more the merrier. So come along, join in and have fun with the newest rugby club on the Costa Blanca. For more information about the club, find us on Facebook “S.F. Costa Cobras RFC”, contact Dutch on WhatsApp - 692 767 242 or come and see us at Zoco market on Sundays from 09.00-13.30, where you can find all of your rugby branded clothing and gear including Canterbury casuals, Cotton Traders, club and international shirts. Melody Makers International

Melody Makers International will be starting rehearsals for their next concert, The Sound of Musicals which will take place on 24.06.2017, as usual on the last Saturday of June. Choir members are still being stopped and complemented on the sensational Andrew Lloyd Webber concert that took place on the 28th January 2017. Melody Makers next concert promises to be equally as good. The Evening with Andrew Lloyd Webber concert attracted many new members to the prestigious Melody Makers Choir. These new members were

totally overwhelmed by the professionalism of Nigel Hopkins and how he managed to obtain the very best from every member of the choir. They commented on how much they enjoyed and learned from every rehearsal, and the great feelings of success they felt performing to two packed houses. These new members fully echoed what long standing members of Melody Makers International have gained from being part of Nigel’s choir. What really surprised the newer singers was the genuine positive response and the glowing praised heaped on them by

truly appreciative audiences. Singing in a choir is a great hobby and makes you leave rehearsals feeling very uplifted and positively glowing and on a high after successful public performances. Research has shown that singing together is beneficial for health and mental wellbeing, and certainly the discipline of learning lyrics and music is a great way of keeping your brain active and healthy. Nigel Hopkins has three great choirs, Orihuela Costa Male Voice Choir that meets at La Zenia Church every Thursday at 11am and would love to welcome new

Look What Happened To Mabel!

STUDIO32 the Costa Blanca’s leading amateur musical theatre company are halfway through rehearsals for their summer production of “Mack and Mabel”. Tickets are available now and are already selling fast. “Mack and Mabel” is a true story, set in the period of the silent movies, starting in 1911 through Mabel’s death in 1930 and ending in 1938. It tells the tale of the tumultuous romantic relationship between Hollywood director Mack Sennett and Mabel Normand – played by Bev McEwan - who became one of his biggest stars. Bev has been with Studio32 for a number of years, playing lead roles such as Ado Annie in their production of “Oklahoma!” and Mrs Fezziwig in their last production “A Christmas Carol”. She fought off lots of competition in auditions to win the role, and brings a lot of experience to this complex tragic heroine character. The show contains some wonderful songs, some great dancing, humour, and the high standards of production from this talented company and audiences will be in for a spectacularly entertaining evening. Studio32 are continuing to support the San Fulgencio Alzheimer’s Association and local charities with this show. Past shows have raised significant sums of money, seats for their previous productions have sold out quickly so make sure to book your tickets early. Show dates are Wednesday May31to Saturday June 3rdat the Cardenal Belluga Theatre in San Fulgencio, all performances start at 7.30pm with doors open 7pm. save Calla Mosca

With reference to the ongoing Battle to save “Calla Mosca”, as the fight has been going on for several years now. Isn’t it time that Orihuela City started to show some consideration to the wishes of people of the Costa and back them in this Battle. Or is it as so many people on the Costa believe that the Orihuela City council only see the Costa as a cash cow and offer nothing? Yes we have a Town Hall which has a limited Police office and other Official offices to collect revenue. We also have a Suma Office to collect revenue. Do we have an Ambulance Station NO. Do we have a Fire Station No. Why because no revenue can be collected from these services. The same as some other services are denied to the habitants of the Costa. No Library, No Theatre, Nowhere to bury our loved one’s, the list goes on. If Orihuela City continue to bury their heads in the sand this Battle may be the Last Straw to break the camels back. Orihuela Costa should seek to be either independent or governed by a closer municipality, could either San Miguel or Torrevieja do a better job? So come on Orihuela City come out and support the Fight of the People support the Battle for Calla Mosca. Or the fight may be against you?

This big guy is a real gentle giant. He is loveable and likes a good belly rub. He is good with people and in excellent condition. He was found wandering the streets trying to interact with people. He appears to have been well looked after, but has obviously been lost and with no microchip found, we do not know his owners. He is well house trained, is very good on a lead and when left to roam freely within boundaries. He would make an excellent family dog.

Britain´s place in the sun Gibraltar is an amazing co-mingling of past, present and future, and the list of things that a visit to Gibraltar should take in is as long as your arm in reality, but there are some things that you just can’t miss. Those things that literally speak to you, or beckon you in to view their stories are things that every visitor to Gibraltar wants to be certain to take a peek at. What do you want to do first? Well of course that depends on what you like most. If nature is your thing, the whales or dolphins, or the rare plants, or the monkeys are going to appeal to you. Gibraltar isn’t just history or shopping or outdoor sports, or even beaches. In reality, it’s all of the above and the best of nearly every world If you’re into shopping, well Gibraltar has some of the best goods and some amazing prices. What’s your pleasure? Hiking, boating or just wandering around the town in search of something interesting? The tax status of Gibraltar makes it a place that is well worth shopping with the smaller stores and local shops as interesting and intriguing as the larger ones. Experience a unique drive across the airport’s runway, where both pedestrians and vehicles cross, this is controlled by traffic lights and barriers. Both RAF and civilians use the airport with daily flights from UK. See the land frontier with Spain.

Gibraltar diving schools are among the best in the world today, and feature dives for the beginner, the advanced and the very experienced open water diver, as well as wreck divers. There are various diving schools that will permit you to try out your new sport, give you on site lessons, and see to it that you have all the equipment you may need to safely dive the wrecks of Gibraltar. They offer equipment rental so complete that all you need to bring with you when you arrive is a towel. If you are, however an experienced diver and you would prefer to bring your own equipment with you, there is absolutely no restriction what so ever in bringing your own diving equipment to Gibraltar with you. Gibraltar features one of the most spectacular underwater scenery in the world today, and for the diver, it features a vast array of things to see and explore. Cradle of History – A welcome monument that is shaped like the rock, showing the first skull of Neanderthal man from Gibraltar as well as other photos that show you the civilisations throughout the history of Gibraltar The Changing of the Guard – Several times daily on Gibraltar, undertaken by Gibraltar’s own Guard Company. Whale Watching in the Strait – If you’re interested in nature, then Gibraltar is one of those places that has some diverse nature to show you. Whales in the area include Humpbacks, Killer Whales, False Killer Whales and several others. Dolphin Watching – Dolphins seem to love the Gibraltar and use the area waterways as a nursery. It’s not at all uncommon to see them playing with their mothers in the waters around Gibraltar. Barbary Macaques – The Gibraltar Monkeys in other words, the last free ranging primate in Europe.

Oman has a reliably warm climate and, as long as you avoid the scorching summer months between June and August, can be visited any time. The weather is at its most pleasant from October through to April, when temperatures are warm but cooler than the sweltering summer months and turtles can be seen at Ras al Jinz. Rain is only fleeting and tends only to come in January and February as short, sharp showers. On the south coast, Salalah has a very different climate in that it has a monsoon season, called the khareef. From June to September the khareef ’s wet winds create a thick and humid fog which coats the mountains in moisture, creating luxuriant green hills. This provides ideal conditions for Salalah’s abundance of tropical fruit, which is in season throughout the year.

The most fun you can have on two wheels 2017 Victory Octane, Victory motorcycles don’t come cheap, and practically never go south of $10,000. But that changes this year with the new Octane. Although not an all-new motorcycle—it shares quite a bit of its mechanical makeup with the Indian Scout 60. But that’s certainly not a bad thing because the Scout made our list of best buys last year. The 1200 liquid-cooled V-Twin is a modified version of what powers the Scout.

It’s also where it delivers 104 hp and 76 lb-ft of torque. The suspension has been calibrated for a sportier feel, too. Because it weighs more than 100 pounds less than Victory’s own Vegas, this lower-priced machine is also one of the quickest and most rewarding to ride in the company’s lineup. Compared to the classicallystyled Indian, the Octane looks more like a muscledup street fighter—and we certainly liking that aesthetic.

Ford Fiesta New Ford Fiesta ST hot hatch stars at Geneva with new 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo engine. Watch the video. Ford has revealed a new Fiesta ST hot hatch, based on the upcoming seventh generation version of the supermini. The biggest news is the move to an-all new engine configuration. The 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbo used in the current car is out, replaced by a lightweight, aluminium 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo. The new motor produces 197bhp. That’s 17bhp up on the standard output of the current Fiesta ST, but equal to its ‘overboost’ figure. Torque swells from 240Nm to

ST - 197bhp 290Nm, and Ford claims that the new Fiesta ST can crack 0-62mph in 6.7 seconds – two tenths quicker than the current generation model and on par with the ST200. A top speed just above 140mph seems likely. Naturally, the downsized motor will be cleaner and more efficient than the outgoing four-cylinder. Ford reckons CO2 emissions for the new model will tumble from 138g/km to 114g/km, and with cylinder de-activation technology onboard, fuel-economy should improve too. Ford knows it’s got one of the most popular superminis and wants to build on the nameplate’s popularity, so it’s “going in hard with the new Fiesta.

Wacky racer The Morgan EV3

BRADLEY BREAKERS The tiny Malvern-based firm reintroduced its 3-Wheeler at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, almost 60 years since it stopped building the original. This year, it’s brought an allelectric version, one of Andrew English’s favourite cars of the 2017 show. The Morgan EV3, looking at the world of zero emissions motoring from an entirely different perspective. ‘What if an all-electric vehicle was bespoke made, hand crafted and exhilarating to drive?’ The EV3 embraces new technology, delivers responsible driving excitement and continues to celebrate traditional British motor manufacturing. Following a soft launch of the Phase 1 EV3 mule vehicle in 2015, Morgan is excited to showcase the final ‘pre-production phase’ car which reveals the restyled body and interior. Weighing less than 500kg, the allelectric 3 Wheeler has a range of 150 miles.

A New SUV for the New Year: The Sportage and The Niro

2017 offers a variety of choices for the SUV hunter. You can choose among the Escape, Tucson, CR-V, CX-5, Cherokee, and a multitude of others. One new SUV you may want to consider for your purchase is the Kia Sportage. Best SUV Award Cars.com is a popular online destination for car shopping and for new and information useful to car owners. For its 2017 Best New Compact SUV award, the Kia Sportage won and took the prize. The model won due to its luxury vehicle-like features, its accessible technology, expansive interior, and elegant styling. The New

Sportage. For better reference, the 2017 iteration of the Sportage features a front crash prevention structure to protect passengers. It has also improved with regards to its steering and suspension components. The 2017 Sportage is an All-Wheel Drive with a 2-liter turbocharged engine, although you can also choose a trim with a naturally aspirated 4-cylinder engine. New Hybrid on the Block When the Sportage is not to your

liking, you can always turn to Kia’s brand new subcompact hybrid SUV — the Niro. Although the Kia Niro is yet to arrive at dealerships soon, the hybrid is bringing in good reviews. According to a reviewer for one automotive website, the Niro offers an impressive set of features that embodies Kia’s strategy of delivering bang-for-yourbuck products. Five Different Trims The Kia Niro comes in five trim levels, from the lowest:

FE, LX, EX, Touring, and the limited-run Launch Edition. Across all trims, the hybrid packs a fuel economy of 50 miles per gallon. The 50 mpg is a combined highway 49 mpg and a city 50 mpg. You can choose the features you want in your Kia Niro depending on the trim level of choice. The Launch Edition trim is the most expensive level with the best features, and is set to impress.

TEAM, DANI, JUANNES, FERNANDO, MANUEL, CARLOS LORENTE, GERMAN, AVREN,VAZ, ALFREDO, DIMITRI, JOAO. Monte travelled to CALLOSA leading the division by 6 points, after having the 6 points deducted in October reinstated on Friday. In front of our biggest away following of the season Monte took time to get use to the only grass pitch in the division. As usual VAZ was fouled 3 times in the first 10 minutes and again needed treatment. For the first 20 minutes both teams played the long ball over the mid field. At last VAZ broke through only to be brought down on the edge of the box. The free kick skimmed the cross bar with the goalkeeper well beaten. A few minutes later DANI was called on to make a great save and CALLOSA missed a great chance to go in front. For once CARLOS LORENTE was unable to get past the fullbacks and we saw very few crosses to trouble our opponents. Overall the first half was pretty even if somewhat a scrappy affair. The second half began with Monte getting a lucky break when their centre forward headed wide from 5 yards out. On 55 minutes Monte made a double substitution with COCO and MACCAN replacing

JUANNES and GERMAN in an attempt to press for a winner. Monte went close with a near post header and VAZ just failed to catch a through ball. CALLOSA were clearly rattled as Monte were awarded a series of free kicks. CARLOS VENTURA was brought on for AVREN and a few minutes later disaster struck. From a corner DANI failed to clear the cross and a shot through a crowed penalty was cleared by DIMITRI of the line. However the referee gave a handball, a penalty and sent DIMITRI of for good measure. One down from the penalty with 20 minutes left Monte went for broke, from a long clearance we failed to put the ball out for a throw in and paid the price. The CALLOSA winger ran past the full back and found 2 forwards waiting in front of goal. Two down and playing with 10 men we put FRAN on for MACCAN for tactical reasons. We then saw their goalkeeper tip a free kick onto the cross bar and from the corner VAZ managed to squeeze the ball into net. Another good save by DANI kept us in the game but time finally ran out and MONTE lost their first match since the 2nd of October ending an unbeaten run of 15 games. We have no game next weekend but are at home to TODO MONTESINOS the weekend after. Promotion is now a distinct possibility.

Golf at El Plantio

A HISTORIC ACHIEVEMENT THAT WILL BE REMEMBERED FOREVER Barca’s stunning comeback against the French side - the biggest second-leg turnaround in Champions League history - was “crazy and unbelievable”, according to midfielder Ivan Rakitic. “It was really impossible,” added the Croatian. And manager Enrique said: “I was brought to my knees.” Looking to overturn a four-goal deficit, Barca hit back through Luis Suarez’s header, Layvin Kurzawa’s own goal and Lionel Messi’s penalty to go 3-0 up. Their hopes looked to have faded when Edinson Cavani smashed in just after the hour mark, but Neymar had other ideas with a stunning free-kick on 88 minutes, before stroking in a penalty three minutes later. With time running out, the Brazilian chipped the ball into the box for Sergi Roberto to stab home the winning goal and send the Nou Camp into raptures. Enrique added: “I don’t think anyone stopped believing. After seeing them sit back despite the goal, the team were incredible. “We risked everything and it paid off. You get finales like this very occasionally in football and this time it was our turn. Mayhem, utter mayhem. When Sergi Roberto sent that 95th-

minute volley into the Paris St-Germain net, completing the greatest comeback in the history of European football, Camp Nou exploded in a release of raw, ecstatic emotion. All around me, people were hugging, jumping, screaming. Grown men were crying and strangers were leaping into each other’s arms. Unlike so much of modern sport, there was nothing contrived or orchestrated about those celebrations, about that moment. There was deep, instinctive passion at its most authentic and unrefined. Just pure, wordless, thoughtless exhilaration. And it is surely for moments like this, which come along once every few years if you’re lucky, that sport is so compelling. “I threw myself at it with everything. We were prepared for all this. The fans were like 10 extra players and in the end this is all for them.” Barcelona match winner Sergi Roberto. “It’s the best match I have ever played in my life.” Barcelona forward Neymar. “I left some ligaments on the pitch but it was worth it.” Barcelona boss Luis Enrique. “This is a historic achievement that will be remembered forever.” Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu.

England can get better

Dylan Hartley has called on England to finish the Six Nations job against Ireland and then take aim

at rugby’s No 1 ranking. Eddie Jones’ side beat Scotland 6121 on Saturday to secure the title and equal New Zealand’s record of 18 consecutive Test wins.. Victory in Dublin on Saturday would mean the outright record and a second straight Grand Slam, but captain Hartley says England’s ambitions extend way beyond next weekend. “We have two options,” he said. “There’s failure on one side or you can kick on and get better. ”

It has been a long time since SMGS has played at El Plantio, abandoning visiting after finding the course in poor condition a few years ago. Whilst it has clearly recovered to some degree from its state at that time, it is not back to what it once was. Fairways in general and the front nine greens in particular have clearly suffered from invasive grasses which means both are pretty uneven. The two stand out scores of the day were Keith Stevenson (36) and Jamie Rorison (39) who just happened to be playing each other in their first round singles match in this year’s SMGS match

play competition. Keith had the misfortune of coming up against the only player to break his handicap whilst playing to his own, losing 4&3. In the day’s other first round matches Ivor Turkington beat Norman Padmore 5&4 and Steve Higgins beat Nick Spicer 1up. A second round match saw Steve Davis beat Brian Mulligan 5&3. The day’s stableford results, by category and in reverse order, were the following: Bronze Category: 5th Norman McBride (32), 4th John Sorenson (33 on CB), 3rd Wenche Westburg (33 on CB), 2nd Ron Stenhouse (35), and 1st Keith Stevenson

with 36 points. Silver Category: 5th Linda Cain (30 on CB), 4th Russel Bailey (30 on CB), 3rd Norman Cahill (32), 2nd Steve Davis (33) and 1st Ivor Turkington with 34 points. Gold Category: 5th Tony Smale (31 on CB), 4th John Osborne (31 on CB), 3rd Eva Pettersson (32), 2nd Barry Roehrig (33), and 1st, with the day’s best return, Jamie Rorison with 39 points The Abacus, a good bottle of red wine, was awarded to Ray Smithers. The Best Guest prize was won by Billy Stewart with 25 points. Nearest the pins on the par 3’s (open to all) went to Eva Pettersson (7), John Osborne (9), Phil de Lacy (14) and Nick Spicer (18). Our thanks go to the staff at El Plantio for their contribution to the day. Keep up to date with all SMGS matters by logging on to our website www. smgs.org or simply give Theo Boelhouwer a call on 694494824 to find out more about the society and its weekly golf get-togethers. Next week we will be at Saurines Torres.

Joe Hart has revealed he may stay abroad, rather than return to the Premier League, after declaring his Manchester City career is already over because Pep Guardiola does not rate him as a goalkeeper. Hart was the first major casualty of Guardiola’s reign at the Etihad Stadium, forced to join Torino on a season’s

loan at the end of the summer window, after he was told he would be third choice behind new signing Claudio Bravo and Willy Caballero if he stayed in Manchester. It was a bruising experience for the England international, but he denied Guardiola had been spiteful towards him and claimed a difficult move has turned

into a hugely rewarding one for him in Serie A. Torino have already made it clear they would like to sign him permanently at the end of his loan move and, although the 29-year-old has been widely linked with a return to England and a move to Liverpool, Hart is keeping his options open.

Arsene Wenger has revealed protesting Arsenal fans could force him out of the club this summer. A section of Gunners supporters held a protest against the Frenchman before Tuesday’s Champions League exit at the hands of Bayern Munich. The manner of the 10-2 aggregate drubbing has only enraged the Emirates crowd further as Arsenal were embarrassed by the Germans. Wenger is thought to have a two-year contract offer on the table and has suggested he will make a decision by no later than next month. But for the first time he has now admitted that supporter unrest will play a part in whether remains as manager in north London next season.

“It will influence,” Wenger answered when asked if the disenchantment of the Arsenal faithful will come into his thinking. “It won’t be the most important factor. “It is difficult for me to judge. I work hard for 20 years to make fans happy. When you lose, I understand they are not. Wenger has spent 21 years at the Arsenal helm but his star has faded in recent years after delivering Premier League titles earlier in his Gunners career. The atmosphere at the Emirates is turning toxic and the 67-yearold’s legacy is in danger of being tarnished.
