RYANAIR SUSPEND UK FLIGHTS
Ryanair has warned that flights from the UK could be halted for ‘weeks or months’ if an early Brexit deal on international aviation is not reached. The airline, which is based in Dublin, takes advantage of Europe-wide ‘open skies’ regulations that allow all EU airlines to fly in and out of any country signed up to the agreement – including the UK. But with the UK set to leave the EU in 2019, Ryanair chief financial officer Neil Sorahan has admitted that the move could have huge implications

message to Theresa May is “Please make your mind up quickly and get a decision on an aviation deal and continue to keep Britain flying.” Ryanair has previously said that it will pursue growth opportunities in Italy, Spain and eastern Europe if it cannot continue in the UK after Brexit. Sorahan added: ‘Ryanair is pivoting its growth away from the UK. We may see that growth slow down as we get closer to the divorce negotiations coming to an end, unless we get greater certainty.’

Invest in Solar
German Chancellor Angela Merkel encouraged Spain and Portugal to invest more in solar energy and said they need a better link to France amid a push for a unified European power
grid. “The connection between France and the Iberian peninsula is a huge problem,” Merkel said Saturday in her weekly podcast. “These are, for example, two countries in
which solar power naturally could be expanded.” Merkel’s government has promoted wind and solar energy as the country prepares for the closure of its last nuclear power stations in 2022, transforming the country’s power markets. Green output met 29 percent of Germany’s electricity demand last year, about the same as in 2015, but far exceeding the 11 percent level of a decade earlier. The European Union is aiming to break down national barriers for power, which could make supplies more secure and lower costs thanks to more trade across national borders.
The delicately sculpted work was placed in the cathedral at Alcalá de Henares, a historic town some 30 kilometers northeast of Madrid, some time before 1489 by the archbishop of Toledo, Alonso Carillo de Acuña, who died in 1482 and who was, according to the historian Arsenio Lope Huerta, “a very important person in the city.” The piece was originally located alongside the
archbishop’s tomb. The Archbishopric of Alcalá was informed of the upcoming auction in London and contacted the Spanish Civil Guard, which, along with the Culture Ministry, was able to have the auction postponed in conjunction with Interpol. The appearance of the piece in London has led to the discovery of another part of the relief in the Arrese
Foundation museum in Corella, in Navarre, which has reportedly agreed to cede it to Alcalá cathedral. The cathedral says it plans to clean and restore the piece, which was damaged during the Spanish Civil War and in its subsequent travels after it went missing. The cathedral has set up a fund asking for €10,645 to buy the work, and has so far collected more than €1,700.

ETA surrenders weapons The Spanish separatist group ETA has handed over weapons to French police as part of its decision to disarm. The militant group surrendered the locations of 12 stores of weapons hidden in the PyreneesAtlantiques and HautesPyrenees in southwestern France. It follows more than 40 years of violence aimed at Basque independence. Founded in 1959, the group has been blamed for the deaths of 829 people in a string of bombings and shootings. Earlier in the week ETA said it would give up all of its remaining weapons by Saturday, dubbed “Disarmament Day”. Experts on ETA have previously estimated the group’s remaining arsenal to comprise 130 handguns and two tonnes of explosives. Last year an ETA member was sentenced to 92 years in prison over a plot to kill the former Spanish king. If the disarmament is successful, it will mark the end of one of western Europe’s longest-running recent armed political struggles.

Spain Retains Crown
Spain, the defending champion, has managed to hang on to the throne. For the second time in a row, its tourism sector ranked as the most competitive in the world, according to the World Economic Forum, an international organization bringing together political and business leaders that is famous for its meetings at Davos, Switzerland. The group’s Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Report 2017: Paving the Way for a More Sustainable & Inclusive Future, which covers 136 economies, grants Spain a top score of 5.4 on 7 on
its Competitiveness Index, bettering France and Germany, which ranked second and third respectively. Also in the Top Ten category are Japan, United Kingdom, United States, Australia, Italy, Canada and Switzerland. “Spain’s success can be attributed to its unique offer of both cultural and natural resources, combined with sound tourism service infrastructure, air transport connectivity and strong policy support,” says the report. Spain has also “benefited from the recent ease of its fiscal policy, and by the redirected tourism
from Middle East and parts of Western Europe, affected by security concerns.” Spain has been climbing the tourism competitiveness ladder quickly: in 2011 it ranked 8th; by 2013 it was in 4th place, and in 2015 it took the world title. The report also notes that Spain’s air infrastructure is among the world’s top nine, but that “while Spain’s ground transportation is ranked in the top 15 economies, it has started to show signs of initial decline, suggesting that upgrades and modernizations are expected.”
Thanks largely to tourism and construction March has seen the biggest drop in Spanish unemployment in eight years. In fact, the trend is expected to accelerate with Easter vacations looming in April. Spain is generating unskilled, low paid, and precarious employment, which is nonetheless precious in a
country that has 18,6% unemployment, which is still second only to Greece. However, 18,6% or 3,7 million people is the lowest unemployment rate in seven years. Over the last two years, employment has been surging by 3% a year. Precarious as they may be, Spain created 400,000 jobs
in 2016. In theory that rate of job creation eases the pressure to reducing the public deficit since over the last few months there are 161,752 more contributors to the Social Security System. However, Spain still has a long way to go. In 2016, the Social Security system’s deficit was €18.6 bn.

Gridlock at Border
Joseph Garcia, Gibraltar’s deputy chief minister, said on Wednesday that Spain had deliberately posted inexperienced police officers at the territory’s border to cause traffic jams, the AFP reported. Garcia said the move was “clearly a response” to the diplomatic spat between the U.K. and Spain over the fate of the British territory in southern Spain. “Spain has used traffic jams as a political weapon against Gibraltar since the day the border opened,” Garcia said, “but certainly it is totally and

absolutely unacceptable.” Earlier, the Gibraltar government had posted pictures of the traffic jam on Twitter, warning travelers it had come to “a standstill.” Spain and Britain have engaged in a war of words over the inclusion of a clause in the European Council’s draft Brexit guidelines, released last week, which obliges the two countries to come to a separate agreement about the status of Gibraltar — a small territory of 30,000 people on Spain’s southern coast — once Britain has left the bloc.
Europe’s fastest and highest rollercoaster has just opened in Spain, as part of a new Ferrari Land attraction. Ferrari Land is the latest addition to PortAventura World, its third park, located on Spain’s Costa Dorada. The ride accelerates from 0 to 112mph in 5 seconds and is over 367 feet tall, meaning it outstrips the UK’s tallest rollercoaster Blackpool’s The Big One by more than one hundred feet. The new park will feature 11 attractions including an immersive Ferrari Experience, as well as the continentbeating rollercoaster Red Force. The world’s tallest rollercoaster stands at 456 ft and can be found at Six Flags Great Adventure park in New Jersey, US. An even taller ride, to be called Skyplex 360.
Level, to cover flights to the Americas from Barcelona’s El Prat airport, beginning in June. Before that, in September of last year, Norwegian had revealed that it would fly to Los Angeles and San Francisco from the Catalan capital. Level went beyond that, and started selling tickets to Buenos Aires and to the popular holiday destination of Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic as well.
Easter is the Christian holiday that celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ and his the promise of eternal life. Easter is also known as Pasch or Pascha. Some people believe the word Easter comes from the pagan holiday honoring Eostre the pagan goddess of Spring which symbolized rebirth. Others believe the word Easter comes from the German word eostarun meaning dawn and white. Easter is now celebrated on the first Sunday after the full moon on the Spring Equinox between March 22nd and April 25th.
Airlines Expansion Plans
Norwegian Airlines’s expansion plans in Spain are now focusing on Madrid’s Barajas airport, where the lowcost airline wants to offer flights to Latin America. “Spain is a great market, everyone wants to come here,” said company founder and CEO Bjørn Kjos in Oslo. The IAG group, which includes British Airways, Iberia, Vueling and Aer Lingus, announced a month ago that it was creating a new brand,

How to Treat Sunburn
1
If you’re near a cold pool, lake or ocean, take a quick dip to cool your skin, but only for a few seconds so you don’t prolong your exposure. Then cover up and get out of the sun immediately. Continue to cool the burn with cold compresses.
2 3 4 5
While skin is still damp, use a gentle moisturizing lotion (but not petroleum or oil-based ointments, which may trap the heat and make the burn worse). At the first sign of sunburn, taking a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), such as ibuprofen, naproxen or aspirin, can help with discomfort and inflammation. It’s important to rehydrate by drinking extra liquids, including water and sports drinks that help to replenish electrolytes, immediately and while your skin heals.
You should seek medical help if you or a child has severe blistering over a large portion of the body, has a fever and chills, or is woozy or confused. Don’t scratch or pop blisters, which can lead to infection. Signs of infection include red streaks or oozing pus.
Squeeze Exercise into Your Busy Weekly Routine
It’s revealing that, according to a new report by the British Heart Foundation, around a quarter of Britons answer in the negative. Those minutes represent the government guidelines for the minimum required level of activity – hit them and you help prevent or manage over 20 chronic conditions, including type
2 diabetes, coronary heart disease and hypertension. You also avoid falling into a category – ‘physically inactive’ – that accounts for 6pc of all deaths globally. Of course, we should strive to do more than the bare minimum – but I can already hear you thinking ‘how on Earth am I going to find time
to do two and a half hour’s activity a week?’ Fret not: here are five simple and easy to tricks to incorporate more physical activity within your schedule without really trying... An easy trick to get more exercise, yet so difficult to do. Why would you want to get off a stop early when it means getting home 15
Red Manicures Rule!
The bold yet sophisticated shade has been spotted on the runways of some of the biggest shows at New York Fashion Week this season - Altuzarra, Kate Spade and Jill Stuart to name a few - and there’s still three more days to go. Of course, red nail polish has never exactly gone out of style, but it also hasn’t exactly felt modern for some time. Backstage at Badgley Mischka this morning, Deborah Lippmann created a ‘laidback glam’ look by topping a gunmetal shade with a
swipe of rich red at the tips. The celebrity nail artist called the French manicure color combination ‘stunning, yet completely unexpected’. A fresh take on the French: Deborah Lippmann updated the classic manicure style for Badgley Mischka’s fall 2017 show by using grey and red polishes. Smoking causes one in ten deaths globally “Today, the smoking epidemic is being exported from the rich world to low-income and middle-income countries, slipping under the radar. ” One in 10 deaths around the world is caused by smoking, according to a major new study that shows the tobacco epidemic is far from over and that the threat to lives is spreading across the globe. There were nearly one billion smokers in 2015, in spite of tobacco control policies having been adopted by many countries. That number is expected to rise as the world’s population expands. One in every four men is a smoker and one in 20 women. Their lives are likely to be cut short – smoking is the second biggest risk factor for early death and disability after high blood pressure. The researchers found there were 6.4m deaths attributed to smoking in 2015, of which half were in just four populous countries – China, India, USA, and Russia. Major efforts to control tobacco have paid off, according to the study published by the Lancet
medical journal. A World Health Organisation treaty in 2005 ratified by 180 countries recommends measures including smoking bans in public places, high taxes in cigarettes and curbs on advertising and marketing. Between 1990 and 2015, smoking prevalence dropped from 35% to 25% among men and 8% to 5% among women. High income countries and Latin America – especially Brazil which brought in tough curbs on tobacco – achieved the biggest drops in numbers of smokers. But many countries have made marginal progress since the treaty was agreed, say the authors of the study from the Institute of Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington in the US. And although far more men smoke than women, there have been bigger reductions in the proportions of men smoking
minutes later? The answer, of course, is that you’ll feel better for it. Exercise elevates our mood – which is the precise opposite effect of sitting in a crowded carriage, armpit-toarmpit with a hoard of other commuters. Do it once and you’ll find you do it again and again. As we grow older, it’s easy to lose our sense of adventure. Remember those weekends you spent with friends racing around on bicycles as a kid? They get replaced by social trips to the coffee shop, restaurant, or – probably the worst for your health – pub. It doesn’t have to be so. Meeting up in the great outdoors – going for a walk, a bike ride, or even trying out a new sport – is a great way to catch up while working towards that 150 minute target.
also, with minimal changes among women. Senior author Dr Emmanuela Gakidou said there were 933m daily smokers in 2015, which she called “a very shocking number”. The paper focused only on those who smoke every day. “The toll of tobacco is likely to be much larger if we include occasional smokers and former smokers and people who use other tobacco products like smokeless tobacco. This is on the low end of how important tobacco is,” she said. There is much more that needs to be done, she said.
“There is a widespread notion that the war on tobacco has been won but I think our evidence shows that we need renewed and sustained efforts because the toll of smoking in 2015 is much larger than most people would think, so we absolutely have a lot more to do. We need new and improved strategies to do it and a lot of effort and political will.” Traditionally there have been far fewer women smoking around the world than men, but it was a huge problem for both, she said. “There are some really worrisome findings – for
example in Russia female smoking has increased in the last 25 years significantly. There are also some western European countries where about one in three women are smoking. So it is true globally that a lot fewer women smoke than men but there are some countries where it is a big problem for women,” she said. “Today, the smoking epidemic is being exported from the rich world to low-income and middle-income countries, slipping under the radar while apparently more immediate priorities occupy and absorb scarce available human and financial resources,” he said.

ADHD Video-Game Treatment Moves Closer to Approval
A video-game based treatment designed to help sufferers of ADHD could be on the market within two years after passing a key clinical stage in its development, London-
listed bio-pharmaceutical company PureTech Health has announced. Daphne Zohar, chief executive, also revealed that PureTech’s Gelesis product, a tablet that expands in the
stomach to provide a feeling of fullness and help weight loss, would also be available within two years following positive results from studies. The company has also recently started developing a treatment for pancreatic cancer, which currently has a low, five-year survival rate. Ms Zohar said that Evo, a video game-based therapy developed by its subsidiary Akili that is intended to improve attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, was currently undergoing a randomised controlled pivotal study, the final stage before it is brought to the US Food and Drug Administration for approval. “About 3pc of
patients that are diagnosed with ADHD don’t want to have drug treatment and there’s another 20pc or so that don’t respond well to drugs,” said Ms Zohar, who co-founded the company in 2015. Should it get the green light, Evo will be the first treatment of its kind approved by the FDA. PureTech is fully funded until the end of 2018 and is using its collaborations with big pharmaceutical companies such as Shire, Amgen, Merck and Pfizer to help commercialise its products. The company floated on the London Stock Exchange in late 2015, raising $160m to finance its development projects.
Myth of the elderly early risers
The review examined whether older people need less sleep, as had long been argued, or whether they are actually unable to generate sleep that they badly needed - before concluding that in fact, that sleep deprivation is a common side-effect of ageing. “The evidence seems to favor one side - older adults do not have a reduced sleep need, but instead, an impaired ability to generate sleep. The elderly therefore suffer from an unmet sleep need,” Prof Walker said. Changes in sleep quality start as early as the mid-thirties, the review found - well before participants noticed a shift to an “early-to-bed-early-to-rise” schedule or reported waking
more often in the night. And problems were worse in men. Those struggling with sleep problems should follow standard “sleep hygiene” advice, researchers said. This included avoiding coffee from late afternoon onwards, cutting out alcohol, and keeping a regular sleep diary to see what differences changes in habits could make. But they said none of the measures could stop the impact of age-related sleep changes, warning against reliance on sleeping pills, which sedate brains, rather than restoring youthful sleep patterns.

Call Dr Machi Mannu:
If you’re going to spend upwards of $50 on a fragrance, you want the scent to remain fresh and robust throughout the day. Many, however, don’t seem to last through the morning commute. A lack of longevity is not necessarily your fragrance’s fault. Factors like dry skin and storage environment (heat and humidity break down the scent) contribute to the issue. If carrying around a delicate fragrance bottle in your purse doesn’t sound like the ideal solution, allow us to introduce you to Linger, a primer that’s formulated to extend the life of perfume on your skin, making it truly worth the investment. When I first stumbled across the product created by ScentIvent, I was intrigued but skeptical. Sure, eye and face primers do wonders for the longevity of make-up, but primer for fragrance seemed like an unnecessary step in my rushed AM routine. On a recent morning I put my doubt aside
and gave Linger a shot, applying it onto the inside of my wrists and along my décolletage. After dabbing the formula (which goes on clear and is fragrance-free) into my skin, I spritzed on my favorite yet quick-to-fade eau de parfum. Around lunchtime, I was pleasantly surprised when a flick of my wrist sent a waft of perfume into the air. And at the end of the work day, the scent could still be detected. I was most impressed, however, later that evening while getting ready for bed. I had gone to a sweat-inducing class at the gym and taken a shower and yet the fragrance was still going strong. Linger, priced at $32.50, works by creating an invisible matrix that helps capture fragrance molecules and keep them on the surface of the skin without the interruption of perspiration or natural oils. It also hydrates skin, which allows fragrance to adhere better. My only question: Where has this product been all my life?

BOOK REVIEW
by Carol Naylor. children if you fancied a night out. She wasn’t the type to run off with anyone’s husband! Completely trustworthy. On the other hand, her mother liked telling people that her daughter wasn’t adventurous or pretty. She added that she wasn’t the type to travel and she wasn’t a spring chicken. Old before her time? A bit unkind.
Paris For One by Jojo Moyes.
I love the idea of Quick Reads, currently 58 titles by well-known authors and more than suitable for beach reading, retailing at £1 is a bargain. If you enjoy a romantic comedy, then you’ll like this one. This one’s for the girls. “She pictured herself and Pete, tangled up in a French hotel bed, gazing out of the window at the Eiffel Tower, holding hands over croissants and coffee in some street café.” Nell Simmons is 26, a sensible and quiet person unless she is with her girlfriends letting her hair down or having a romantic encounter in Paris and then anything can happen! Who knows? She was the type of person who would willingly water your plants if you went on holiday or look after your
Special Offers Visit:
It’s not surprising that Nell probably preferred the ladette culture of drinking, hanging out with the boys and the inevitable hangovers to nurse with Magda, Trish and Sue and their annual weekend in Brighton. Boyfriend Pete, if he could be called that was the unreliable, easy-going guy who had more of a colourful past than Nell. He thrived on adventure and danger and had travelled around the world. In Laos and Kenya he had two narrow escapes but he had survived. Nell wanted to spend a romantic weekend away and Paris was the obvious choice. It was November time, just perfect. Unfortunately, she chose the wrong weekend, the same weekend planned by the girls to visit Brighton. They had visited Brighton every year for six years and so far, no-one had missed it. Until now. Nell broke the news to Magda that Pete was taking her to Paris (even though it was Nell who had paid). Her friends didn’t think much of Pete. In their eyes he was a loser and a prat. The story begins with an anxious Nell who has been waiting at the station for 30 minutes, feeling worse for wear, worrying that he will not turn up. And of course he doesn’t. A fifth text and a response to say that he is caught up at work and he tells her to go and enjoy herself. The intention is for him to catch
her up later. So, reluctantly she boards the Eurostar, still hopeful that he will turn up and it won’t be a disaster. But there are further complications when Nell reaches the Hotel Bonne Ville to find the room has been double booked and she ends up sparring with a rude American woman who insists on having the last room herself. It soon turns into The World’s Worst Romantic Weekend. Could it get any worse? Fabien is a budding writer earning a living as a waiter, still in a state of despondency after a failed relationship with Sandrine. He had been editing his manuscript for the past 6 months and felt unhappy that his characters were flat and their voices fake. A clumsy accident resulted in the loss of his manuscript and further despondency. A chance meeting or two between Nell and the Frenchman and a 22 minute whistle-stop tour of Paris on a moped taking in the sights of Notre Dame, the Champs-Elysees and the Eiffel Tower provided a necessary distraction for a dejected Nell and the start of a fleeting, romantic encounter. “That was the most bloody terrifying and absolutely best thing I have ever done in my entire life.” Yet she loved it. The music, the drink, the Parisian atmosphere. It all goes to her head. There are one or two surprises left before Nell returns home looking decidedly more relaxed, happy and confident. In fact, a different person. Full of mischief and joy. “We had one perfect night in Paris. It would be a shame to spoil it.” So what did Nell get up to? What happened to Pete and more importantly, what happened between Nell and Fabien? Find out for yourself…… Publisher: Penguin Random House UK.

How To Sow Vegetable Seeds
Now’s the time to clear a spot for your kitchen garden or sow carrots, parsnips, summer cauliflowers, rhubarb, Brussels sprouts, leeks and onions. 1) Prepare the ground where crops are to be grown by raking the soil to remove stones and weeds. Level the surface. 2) Mark out rows w i t h cane and a length of strong, then take out a shallow groove or seed drill with the back of a rake or tip of a cane. 3) Sow seeds thinly along the drill, spacing them evenly, or sow several seeds at regular points and thin out once t h e
seedlings appear.
Gardening, isn’t that hard work and reliant on a regular water supply? A Spanish or Mediterranean garden doesn’t have to require regular watering.
4) Cover the seeds thinly with soil and tap down with a rake. On heavy soil, cover with potting compost for a more even layer. Get to grips with weeds before they get grips with your

Make an Easter Garden
YOU NEED: *A shallow tray or dish *Garden soil or potting compost *Moss, cut grass or sand *Dried twigs *Sewing thread *Small pot *Flat stone large enough to cover the mouth of the pot *Egg cups (or other small containers) *Small flowers *Gravel
TO MAKE: 1. Fill the tray with soil or potting compost. 2. Arrange it to make a hill on one side of the tray. 3. Cover the soil with moss, grass or sand. 4. Make three crosses with dried twigs tied together with sewing thread and place on the hilltop. 5. Press the small pot into the hillside to make a cave like the garden tomb. Place the stone over the mouth of the tomb. 6. Press egg-cups full of water into the soil around the garden and fill with flowers. 7. Make a path coming from the tomb with gravel, to show how the disciples ran to the tomb on Easter morning. 8. Early on Easter morning, move back the stone from the tomb ~ showing that it is empty.
Garden style for summer
This year why not opt for the sun-soaked colours of the South? The rich red, amber and ochre tones of earth, stone and sand have inspired the new Hinterland Outdoors collection from Sainsbury’s, and it’s a look we’re all raving about. Inspired by African and South American style, this new edit of artisan-style picnicware mixes tribal vibes with copper overtones. Aztec cushions and intricately-printed plates will have you setting up a little corner of paradise
in your very own garden. So either sit back and relax, or turn your garden into an outdoor dining room to entertain friends.Look sensational – from colourful sharing platters and beautiful bowls to lovely lanterns and stylish candle holders. Even the smaller details, such as salad servers and dipping bowls, are a delight. Roll on those hot summer days and balmy nights. We can’t wait!
Fun Gardening Projects for Kids There are several fruits you can grow in your own garden, including blueberries and apples - but strawberries are probably the easiest. Once you’ve planted them, they’ll usually keep coming back for a few years. Grow your own Peppers: Sow your seeds into compost in a heated propagator, set to 21 degrees, in
February or March. Leave on a sunny windowsill or in a greenhouse. 2. When the seedlings are big enough to handle, pot them into 7.5cm (3in) pots. Leave to grow in a sunny place. 3. When roots show at the bottom of the pot, they can be ‘planted out’. Plant 3 into a growbag or put 1 plant per pot in a 22.5cm (9in) pot.
4. When they get to be about 20cm tall, give them support with a small cane and tie with garden twine. 5. Once the first peppers appear, feed them with tomato feed every fortnight to keep the compost moist6. Pick the first peppers when they’re small, this will encourage more to follow.

THE BEST Beach holidays in Spain
>> Asturias
>> Langre, Cantabria 1. Asturias Far from the typical tourist trails, the cliffedged, emerald-green eastern coastline of Asturias boasts some of the most exquisite beaches in Spain. Beneath the Picos de Europa, rocky coves, remote golden crescents, low-key beach towns and a buzzing surf scene await. But this superb country deserves exploration as much as sunbathing sessions, and the region’s beauty lies in the immediate accessibility of both sea and mountains – “mar y montaña”. A great way to do this is with Inntravel’s one-week, self-guided, tailormade “Rugged Hills & Coast of Asturias” trip, which combines coastal escapades with mountain walks, from the lovely rural base of the British-run, 100-year-old farmhouse Posada del Valle near Arriondas. 2. Langre, Cantabria Hidden away amid the tranquil, rural country of the Costa Trasmiera, Langre’s wild, secluded beaches are arguably Cantabria’s most spectacular. Endless green meadows top sheer limestone cliffs that lead down to two golden arcs of sand, fronted by thundering waves that make this a top spot for surfing. It was originally a hit with nudists for its wonderful isolation, and it’s hard to imagine that the lively capital, Santander, is a mere 25km away to the west. Enjoy the peace and
>> Es Pujols, Formentera quiet in comfort at rustic-chic countryside hotel La Posada de Langre, about 500m back from the beach. 3. West Coast Cantabria Western Cantabria’s beaches almost feel more like Sydney than Spain – except that this 50km-long coastline is lined with pretty fishing towns and backed by peaceful green hills sprinkled with roaming cattle and centuries-old stone farmsteads. Much of it lies within protected natural park land, which makes for some of the most pristine beaches around. It’s tricky to choose favourites, but those between Comillas and San Vicente de la Barquera might just top them all. Brittany Ferries offers an extensive selection of transport-plus-accommodation beach holidays to this area. An excellent base among these is the simple but cheerful Hotel Joseín, with an unbeatable sea-facing position on Comillas Beach. 4. Tamariu, Costa Brava If you like the idea of secluded smugglers’ coves and broad stretches of golden sand fringed with pines and coral pink rocks, look no further than the Costa Brava. Far from the braying crowds of the larger resorts, the stretch of coastline between Palamós, about an hour north of Barcelona, and Cadaqués
>> Marbella, Costa del Sol
near the French border has some of the clearest waters in the Mediterranean. Without so much as a high-rise for miles, many of the small bays still have the feel of the fishing villages they originally were. One of my favourites is the horseshoe bay at Tamariu, lined with fish restaurants yards from the sea. The family-run Hotel Tamariu there has simple, fresh rooms with a blue and white nautical feel. Perfect for a beach holiday. 5. Marbella, Costa del Sol There is a stretch of sand to suit everyone in Marbella on the Costa del Sol, whether you want the buzz of a glitzy beach club or a laidback family-friendly vibe. Stay at the freshly revamped Puente Romano hotel and you can step straight out of the hotel on to the beach – and perhaps take a few lessons in stand-up paddleboarding too. Or improve your tennis at the hotel’s prestigious club, where you might well spot a professional player on the next court. The Puente Romano is laid out like an Andalusian village, with lowrise white buildings concealed by subtropical gardens, so you don’t feel you are in a huge complex. 6. Cala Mesquida, Majorca Cala Mesquida, on the north-eastern tip of the island, is a stunning beach of pale sand,
framed by dunes and pine forests – with a few hotel complexes on one side. If you need to stay somewhere with excellent facilities but want to explore a quieter part of Majorca, the Viva Cala Mesquida Resort should fit the bill. You stay in spacious apartments – it is definitely worth booking one with a sea view – and can choose any permutation from selfcatering to all-inclusive. This remote bay used to be a smugglers’ haunt, but is now a favourite of windsurfers. Although it still has a wild feel, there are a couple of bars and restaurants on the beach and lifeguards to keep an eye on the sometimes choppy sea. 7. Es Pujols, Formentera Best beach in the Balearics? We could argue about that all day but Formentera, the little island south of Ibiza, has some pretty convincing contenders for the title. White sand and clear, calm water are the norm here, making Formentera a good choice for families with young children, the island is certainly not the sole preserve of the boho brigade. People also come to dive, kayak or windsurf, to cycle or hike around the island or go birdwatching in the wetlands – a great option in spring, when accommodation is very reasonable. The new Hotel Blanco Formentera is two minutes’ walk from Es Pujols beach, which has a handful of bars and restaurants. Stylish yet simple, like the island’s laidback vibe.

Marmite Keeps Brains Healthy
Top Chef says we should be Juicing Steaks
Love Local
Love it or hate it, researchers believe the yeast extract helps boost levels of an important neurotransmitter which stops brain cells from becoming overexcited. In the University of York study, volunteers who ate a teaspoon of Marmite every day for a month showed a 30% decrease in their brain’s response to visual patterns compared to those who ate peanut butter instead. Scientists believe that Marmite, which is rich in vitamin B12, boosted their levels of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) the neurotransmitter which “regulates the delicate balance of activity needed to maintain a healthy brain”. Past studies have concluded that GABA may help to dampen feelings of fear and anxiety. Abnormal levels of GABA have also been associated with epileptic seizures, opening up the possibility that Marmite could have beneficial effects for people who suffer with certain neurological disorders. Anika Smith, a PhD student involved in the study, said: “As the effects of Marmite consumption took around eight weeks to wear off after participants stopped the study, this suggests that dietary changes could potentially have longterm effects on brain function.” The research team’s next study will involve giving volunteers a course of vitamin B12 tablets, or a placebo, to try to figure out whether this is the ingredient responsible for the increase of GABA in the brain.

GREAT FUN NIGHT OUT
Forget cold-pressed kale juice, the new juice on the scene is a lot meatier literally. According to a top chef, we should all be drinking steak juice. This isn’t for health reasons though - it’s not like the bone broth so raved about by healthy foodies. No, it’s to make the most of the flavour. Top Spanish-American chef José Andrés came up with the idea after realising each mouthful of steak is only really enjoyable for the first five seconds, when the delicious meat juices are swirling round your mouth. “You put the piece in your mouth, the smokiness of the charcoal, the juices that begin floating all around your tongue, your mouth. Your body’s kind of like, ‘Oh my god, what’s going on? This is
so good,’ but it only lasts five seconds,” Andrés explained to Eater. “In the moment those juices disappear, you have this big, round piece of fibres and other things that you’re going to have to be biting to try to break into small pieces for the next 30 seconds of your life.” Andrés considers this unpleasant chewing a waste of life: “I am not living my life to have so many minutes, hours probably, days at the end of a lifetime, munching something so tasteless.” So his solution is to juice steaks - not with a fancy juicer, mind, but with his hands. He puts the juice in a glass, warm, with a little salt, and that’s it. “Those four seconds that
you’re drinking the juice of the meat, that’s the way we should be eating meat. If we do that with a carrot, and the carrot juice is amazing, why can’t we do this with a piece of meat?” he asks. Before you get too paranoid about turning into a vampire, the juice in a steak isn’t actually blood. It’s myoglobin which is an oxygen-storing protein that turns from red to greyish brown when the steak is cooked, according to The New York Times. “We are bringing you meat aromas and meat flavours, but sometimes I don’t want to waste your precious life, because you are putting your life in my hands,” the chef and restaurateur says. “Amazingness is what we need to be always looking for.”

Great Food & Drink
BA has its head in the Clouds!
The new short-haul food policy by BA, just doesn’t work – they did not have the items we wanted, and don’t take cash! BA recently introduced a new food policy on its shorthaul economy service. It advertised the fact that

Double Choc Malt Cookies

50 g unsalted butter, 200 g quality dark chocolate (70%), 1 x 396 g tin of condensed milk, 25 g ground almonds, 2 heaped teaspoons Horlicks, 200 g self-raising flour, 100 g Malteasers, 50g quality white chocolate. Method: Melt the butter and chocolate in a pan on a low heat until smooth and combined, stirring occasionally. Remove from the heat and stir in the condensed milk, followed by the almonds and Horlicks. Sift in the flour and a pinch of sea salt, mix together, then chill in the fridge for 20 to 30 minutes (no longer). Once cool, but still pliable, smash up the Maltesers and roughly chop the white chocolate, then mix it all together. Preheat the oven to
170°C/325°F/gas 3. Divide the mixture into 24 equal-sized balls and place on a couple of large baking trays lined with greaseproof paper. Flatten each a little – like squashed golf balls (you can freeze them at this stage to bake another day if you like) – then bake for around 12 minutes, or until chewy in the middle and firm at the edges. Leave to sit in the tray for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool. If you want to take these devilish cookies to another level, either sandwich 2 cookies with a good spoonful of your favourite ice cream, or even some homemade marshmallow, and squeeze… heaven, or simply drizzle all the cookies with melted chocolate while they cool… amazing!

charge. Unlike other budget airlines, BA does not accept cash, so each transaction takes several minutes. Our daughter, on a flight from Geneva, received no service, as the trolley did not reach her. From the crew reaction, I am sure many other people have similarly poor views. SB, Reading, Berkshire “To fly, to serve. Today. Tomorrow” is British Airway’s slogan. And, from the number of online laments, it seems tomorrow is the earliest that many passengers can expect to be served a meal. The airline has been accused of devaluing its brand and alienating customers since it axed its free food trays in January, but appears blithely oblivious to the outcry. “Customers are telling us
that they really appreciate the choice and quality of the M&S range available, and they have already bought hundreds of thousands of items since they were introduced,” says a spokesperson, completely ignoring the many famished souls who have been unable to indulge as the trolley inched through the plane. Not only did the airline decide
to refuse cash, it also insisted on chip and pin for card payments, causing further delays. It’s now, belatedly, introduced contactless, and says it regularly adjusts stock on flights to meet demand. The price of those M&S sandwiches is marked up, though, so to save money and hunger pangs, you might wish to stock up in the departure lounge.

38 members and 6 guests turned out at Roda for this week’s Stableford competition where calm and sunny conditions greeted us for the first tee-off just before 10 o’clock – that’s just when this “Jeckyll & Hyde” course lulls you into a false sense of security. Often what starts off as a balmy, sunny day can swiftly change as the “Roda wind” gets up and shows the teeth of this course. It happened for our 4-ball, as one of the later ones to tee off, just as we started the second nine when the fairways were littered with head-gear while most of the balls were in the rough – or worse still, in the water! He is currently in a foster home and loves being with his foster mum’s dog, so a home with another dog for company would be the best thing for him. To arrange to meet Archie, please call the numbers below.

The Lagoon of seven colors The lagoon extends quietly and picturesque next to the village of Bacalar as a perfect scenario for adventure and nature lovers. Bacalar has a lot of history to tell; it was the scenario of multiple clashes between Mayans and Spaniards and later became victims of English, French and Dutch pirates. The lagoon is only twenty minutes from Chetumal, the capital city of the State, and it is one of the main attractions in Bacalar, because visitors can swim, rent motor or sail boats and also kayak here. Spending a day admiring the charming flora and fauna of the area. RIDE ON THE LAGOON The lagoon is the main attraction of the village. It is called the lagoon of seven colors because of the differences in the bottom soils, the difference of depths and the variation in the intensity of the sun rays; all this makes that the water reflects seven different shades of blue. Enjoy the incomparable landscape by boat, kayak, sailboat or Jet Ski. See the contrast of the lush vegetation surrounding the waters and let yourself be lulled by the birds singing, which will make this a magical experience. BECOME A PIRATE Take the chance to navigate the rapids flowing into the Hondo River or into the estuary of Chac, the same way as the pirates did in their time. RENEW YOUR BODY AND SOUL IN T HE LAGOON Find in Bacalar an ideal place for relaxation: the energy transmitted fills you with an inexplicable sense of peace and tranquility. Let the elements of nature help this healing experience.
Playa del Carmen Cirque du Soleil
Powder White Sand
Cirque du Soleil are found in the Riviera Maya a fantastic site to establish a show that brings together the wonders of this circus company with the history, culture, nature and characters of Mexico. Let your imagination run wild and immerse yourself in the history of Joya, where by means of hallucinating effects and scenographies you will feel part of history itself. Enjoy to the maximum the dances, music, colors and flavors that transport you to pre-Hispanic Mexico, which fused with amazing creativity.
Playa del Carmen is one of the favorite destinations for vacation, especially in summer, according to Trip Advisor, as it is an idyllic place located in the heart of the Riviera Maya with fine white sand and blue-green waters, you will always find a Hammock and an umbrella to sunbathe and rest, especially in the edge of town that offers the quietest beach areas. If you prefer action, in Playa del Carmen you will find water activities such as windsurfing, jet skis, kayaking or diving in the impressive Mayan coral reef. Great musicians of Mexican and international jazz offer concerts every year. The beauty of the beaches and the many activities that Playa del Carmen has for you will force you to come back.
The Underwater Art Museum (MUSA) seeks to demonstrate the coexistence between art and the environment. It consists of pieces of a special marine concrete which facilitates the creation of corals on its surface placed on the seabed and which have become a refuge for marine life in the form of artificial reefs. Marvel at the more than 500 sculptures that the MUSA has permanently submerged. Examine the sculptures fixed to the bottom of the sea in an area of more than 420 square meters with its more than 200 tons of art. Discover the two galleries that make up the museum: Manchones and Punta Nizuc. In addition, if you do not want to get wet, you can opt for the visit aboard the glass bottom boat. It is a boat with crystals on the sides where you can see a fragment of the second largest barrier reef in the world, turtles, parrot fish, angel fish and many other wonders.

Travel INSIDERS
Fuerteventura Discover The Island
LETS Travel
Roquetas de Mar is known not only for it’s fishing village traditions which are carried on today through gastronomy and annual festivals, but also for its fame as a resort town. Within the municipality of Roquetas el Mar is the famous “Aguadulce” (Fresh Water) resort – one of the first tourist resorts established in Spain in the 1960’s and has been classified as a Centre of National Touristic Interest. The municipality also borders or includes important nature reserves and natural parks. The village of Roquetas de Mar offers sightseers the 18th century Our Lady of the Rosary Church (Iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Rosario), the 16th century Santa Ana Castle, Roman remains and the Santa Ana lighthouse among other examples of local architecture and historical remains. If it’s archaeology that interests you, the town does have remains dating back before the advent of Roman rule in Spain.
Water sports are very popular in Fuerteventura. Every year hundreds of surfers, windsurfers, kitesurfers, and divers descend on Fuerteventura and during July the island is host to the P.W.A world windsurfing speed and slalom event at Sotavento in the south. There are many new attractions inviting tourists to discover different aspects of the Island’s landscape and culture such as the Betancuria Museum of Archaeology and Ethnography and Tefia Craft Village to name but a few. Fuerteventura has miles and miles of broad sandy beaches and golden sand dunes make Fuerteventura the ideal holiday resort for everyone. There is no other island in the Canaries with as many enormous sand dunes and long sandy beaches (more than one hundred and fifty). Even though most of the land on Fuerteventura consists of stone and rock, this island has some of the most impressive beaches in the whole of Europe.

Lost Car Keys & The stress
Mercedes-AMG GT roadster
It’s not hard to get excited by a Mercedes-AMG sports car aimed at the Porsche 911. But it can be hard to wrap your head around the Mercedes-AMG GT lineup. First there was the GT S, which was followed by an entry-level, non-S GT. Then came the other bookend, the top-of-the-line GT R, and the race car, which gets no name at all beyond the class it sometimes competes in: Mercedes-AMG GT3. Then came the inevitable GT convertible, the GT C, which seemed to be positioned as the roadster complement to the GT S coupe—until it was announced that there will be a GT C coupe as well. Naturally, there’s also a non-C convertible. There’s no word on an R convertible, although there will be a four-door model from AMG badged as a GT that almost certainly will be available in many, if not all, of the aforementioned trim levels. Mercedes-AMG has decided to diversify its AMG GT sports car with both a new
You will feel a variety of emotions such as frustration and a sense of helplessness if you are locked out of your car. It can be an extremely stressful especially if you are in a hurry, or you are already stressed. You can be locked out for many different reasons. By learning about the various causes, you may be able to find your lost keys. Lost Keys Most of the time, people simply lose their keys. You can try remembering where you last placed your keys, or you can search for them if you have the time. Otherwise, you can take note of your car’s make, model, year, and Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). You can find the previous information in your vehicle’s registration papers and logbooks. Locked Keys Now, it will be another problem if your vehicle’s registration papers and logbooks are kept in your car, which you cannot open. At such times, as well as in times that you lock your keys inside your vehicle, you can call a locksmith. Locksmiths have the tools and expertise necessary to open your vehicle without any damage.
specification level and a roadster option. Available in base GT and new GT C guises, the new Roadster helps spread the range to combat the 911 and Audi R8. In standard GT form, the roadster shares its 476bhp 4.0 bi-turbo engine and equipment specification with the fixed head car. In new GT C format however, the roadster utilises the hard-core GT R’s wider body, while sporting an uprated 557bhp version of the same 4.0 V8 as the standard car. The GT C also uses the rear steering system from the GT R as well as the distinctive Panamerica grill. Eventually due to be spread to the fixed head version, the GT C might just be the most rounded variant of Mercedes-AMG’s ever-improving sports car. Hot Vee, Hot Stats: Both versions faithfully track their coupe siblings. For the GT, that means 469 HP and 465 lb-ft of torque from the twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 routed to a rear-mounted seven-speed dual-clutch transaxle.

Motoring Roundup
Best luxury performance car?
“Alpha who? Except for a enthusiastic core of Alfisti, many of today’s car buyers haven’t heard of Alfa Romeo, let alone know how to spell it”
Alfa Romeo practically invented the sport sedan segment more than a half century ago. Its Giulia TI sedan was every bit the dynamic equivalent of the brand’s sports cars and roadsters. But a two-
decade-long time-out from the U.S. market led to Alfa Romeo dropping out of the new-car conversation. Now, that’s about to change. Alfa Romeo is back, baby, and the $72,000 Quadrifoglio is the all-in performance variant of Alfa’s brand-new Giulia luxury sedan. With a Ferrari-derived 505-horsepower twin-turbo V6 lurking under its carbonfiber hood, it can storm from rest to 60 miles per hour in 3.8 seconds, about the time it takes to say “the 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio.” Alfa claims the Quadrifoglio tops out at a head-clearing 191 mph
and is the fastest four-door ever tested at Germany’s storied Nurburgring. In daily service, two rear doors add 5-passenger practicality, with a decentsized rear seat and trunk. Alfa’s Quadrifoglio also brings tasteful leather-and Alcantara trim, up-to-date infotainment with navigation and an 8.8-inch touchscreen and the latest safety tech such as dynamic cruise control with full stop, lanedeparture warning and blind spot and rear cross-traffic monitoring. Practical, sure, but what the Quadrifoglio is really about involves a big red “start” button on the steering wheel. Push that, turn the console-mounted
DNA switch to Race mode and exercise the car’s active suspension, torque-vectoring differential, and Brembo high-performance brakes to the epic crackle and pop of the dual-mode, quadoutlet exhaust. Dynamic engagement is what makes this car and its driver feel so alive. It took on some longtime favorites but the New York Daily News Autos team of experts concur that the allnew 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio is the top choice among performance luxury cars. If you want to also consider additional wellregarded entries, here is a list of alternative offerings worthy of your consideration, listed in Alfabetical order.
Suzuki GSX250R price announced The Suzuki will compete with the likes of KTM’s sporty single-cylinder RC390, which costs £4,999 and the class pioneer, Kawasaki’s Ninja 300, which retails for £4,799. On price at least, the Suzuki has the KTM and Kawasaki beat. But what about the rest of the class? We’ve had a look through MCNbikesforsale. com and found these A2 sportsbikes currently up for sale. Yamaha R3, £3,795. The R3 is a credible, genuine, practical sportsbike that has the ability to entertain even the most sceptical old goat of a
motorcyclist. Are you looking at a future legend? If enough riders are swayed by its charms then you may well be doing just that. The Yamaha provides a great balance of fun and practicality. The CBR300R holds its own in traffic, offering plenty of torque for such a small, light bike. It might lack the power of Kawasaki’s Ninja 300, but that torque makes for an enjoyable ride. A much better option than the CBR250R it replaced.

Jose could lose dressing room
Jose Mourinho could be on his way to losing some of the Manchester United dressing room with his criticism of Luke Shaw, says Phil Thompson. Mourinho called Shaw’s understanding of the game into question after the leftback’s second-half cameo against Everton. The defender was restored to Manchester United’s matchday squad following clear-the-air talks with Mourinho after the manager criticised Shaw’s work ethic. “I tell you this because I told him already,” Mourinho said. “He had a good performance but it was his body with my brain. He was in front of me and I was making every decision for him.” Speaking on Soccer Saturday, Thompson says the treatment of Shaw draws parallels to his criticism of Ruben Loftus-Cheek while Chelsea manager, and says he is not giving other players in the squad the same public appraisal. Paul Merson says Mourinho is being too harsh on Shaw Paul Merson says Mourinho is being too harsh on Shaw “Ibrahimovic has had certain times in the season where he doesn’t score goals, he would never dare criticise him. Rooney has not even featured, we don’t even see him anymore, yet there’s never any criticism, “I think you’re on your way to losing your players. Maybe a little way, but don’t forget
those players are close-knit in the dressing room, and they’ll be talking about the criticism of younger players. “The older ones feel protective of the younger players, and they won’t be happy, and it happened at Chelsea, the older ones won’t be happy with that as well.” Thompson says Mourinho has held back from criticising the likes of Paul Pogba, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Wayne Rooney Thompson says Mourinho has held back from criticising the likes of Paul Pogba, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Wayne Rooney Matt Le Tissier, also speaking on Soccer Saturday, said he finds the criticism of Shaw bizarre, and says the defender must have done something wrong behind the scenes. “It’s bizarre. I find it bizarre. It’s almost like he’s trying to force him out of the football club with the stuff he’s saying. “You’d expect a manager to be more supportive of a young player - I don’t know what’s gone on there, but there must be something that has got under Jose Mourinho’s skin, for him to publicly humiliate Luke Shaw there. “It’s bizarre to me and I’m not quite sure what’s gone on. It would be interesting to see what has gone on to make Jose Mourinho comment about him like that.”

Real Madrid 1-1 Atletico Madrid
Madrid Held Antoine Griezmann scored a late equaliser in the Madrid derby as Atletico held La Liga leaders Real. Real took a deserved lead when Pepe, who later went off injured with broken ribs, headed home Toni Kroos’ free-kick. The European champions continued to dominate but without really testing keeper Jan Oblak on too many occasions. And Griezmann levelled for third-placed Atletico when he slid home Angel Correa’s through ball. Real are three points clear at the top of La Liga, with a game in hand on Barcelona, after Barca’s 2-0 defeat at Malaga later on Saturday. On the balance of play, Real should have won the derby - with Karim Benzema forcing a good first-half save from Oblak and defender Stefan Savic brilliantly clearing Cristiano Ronaldo’s shot off the line.
T.M.G.S Golf Report An early start was required for our Captain’s Day at Campoamor to accommodate the 50 participating players. The course is in really good condition these days and that makes block tee times harder to aquire. Fortunately for us it turn out to be an advantage, apart from a little excess water on the greens the early start meant that we had the best of the weather, warm sunshine and NO wind. These perfect conditions were certainly reflected in the scores in all Categories. The other advantage in
