Oldest Irish pub in Valencia shuts down
VALENCIA'S first-ever Irish pub, Finnegan's has pulled its last pint of Guinness after 20 years trading in the heart of the city and closed down for good. Set up by Irish expat Peter Finnegan, the bar was practically a clone of the one his family runs in the Emerald Isle and which goes by the same name in the town of Dalkey, south of Dublin. The décor was brought over from Ireland to Peter's premises in the Plaza de la Reina, close to the famous Micalet bell-tower next to the cathedral, and popular with locals in the city as well as tourists. Since 1995, Finnegan's of Dublin was one of the few pubs in Valencia where customers could watch the Rugby Six Nations or the British Premier League
matches - and fans from all over Spain and Europe used it as their 'watering hole' when Valencia FC or Levante UD played major matches. German, British and Irish tourists were regularly seen there, and English, Irish, Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish expats felt at home there since the bar served up typical dishes from the British Isles, including authentic fish and chips.

Eight people linked to the company have been arrested, including its chairman, Vicente Huerta. Other companies whose public works contracts are now under scrutiny include those given by Castellano to Construcciones Taroncher, run by one of his friends, and Over Marketing, which is already being investigated by a court in Palma de Mallorca for an alleged illegal funding scam involving the PP in the Balearic Islands. Lloyd Milen was the guest speaker at the May meeting of the Orihuela Costa Branch of the Royal British Legion held in Mil Palmeras last Thursday evening. Lloyd is, of course, the Vice Consul, at the British Consulate in Alicante. Rather fittingly, although the arrangement had been made some weeks ago, Lloyd had recently assumed the role of RBL (District North Spain) President and his visit to the Orihuela Costa was his first to a local branch since assuming the appointment. However, his presentation to the members focused very much on the role played by the British Consulate in this part of Spain. He spoke of how the Consulate already works closely with the RBL, dealing with those British nationals in need
He also spoke of his contact within the much wider Spanish Community and how he is continually meeting with Mayors, Councillors and Officials in an effort to promote the integration in Spain of the 160,000 British Nationals registered on local padron’s. He refused to be drawn on questions relating to the forthcoming referendum on EU Membership, and what might happen should the UK pull out, saying that it really was uncharted territory, but he confirmed that governmental policy was very much that the country remains within the Union, albeit on rather different terms. Following his lecture Branch Chairman Keith Carter thanked Lloyd for attending the meeting and concluded by presenting the new President with a Branch Certificate of Appreciation.

Misery for British holidaymakers
Misery for British holidaymakers as Spanish air traffic controllers confirm four days of strikes in June . Spanish air traffic controllers have planned four days of strikes in June. The events will take place on June 8, 10, 12 and 14 for two hours each morning and two hours each afternoon across the country The strikes mirror the 2010 stoppages which left 600,000 tourists stranded The union is now protesting the penalties given to those controllers Britons travelling abroad to Spain for a sunny break should prepare for considerable disruption in June as Spanish air traffic controllers have called partial strikes over four days. The stoppages have been organised by the USCA controllers’ labors union in dispute over fines and suspensions given by airport operator AENA to 61 controllers for a walkout that happened in 2010. Control workers will strike on June 8, 10, 12 and 14 between 10am and 12pm and 6pm and 8pm across the country, the union worker confirmed. The action will begin as Spain starts its summer tourism season and threatens to disrupt an industry that accounts for over 10 percent of economic output. Travel companies and airlines who will be affected by the strikes are hoping there will be as little disruption as possible for travellers during the strikes. A spokesperson for budget airline, easyJet said: ‘easyJet has been advised of planned industrial strike action by Spanish Air Traffic Control services on 8, 10, 12 and 14 June for two hours each morning and two hours each afternoon.

‘It is too early to say whether there will be any impact to our flying programme and we are currently monitoring the situation. ‘We would like to reassure customers that we are doing everything possible to minimise any disruption as a result of the industrial action.’ At the last strike, five years ago, 600,000 travellers were stranded ahead of a national holiday, and the government were forced to call in the army to take over control towers. For the first time since the country returned to democracy in 1978, Spain was forced to implement a ‘state of alarm.’ The controllers gave no warning before starting their walkout, which was the result of a dispute over pay and conditions with airports authority AENA. The wildcat strike lasted for 24 hours wreaking havoc across Europe. Over 600,000 tourists were affected across Europe as a result of the Spanish controller’s unannounced walkout Following this, 61 air traffic controllers from Barcelona Control Centre were fined one month’s salary, and were given a month’s suspension. However the suspension of 59 of the 61 staff members has been pushed back to 2016 because of a ‘shortage of staff’ according to The Local. AENA had no comment on the June 2015 planned strikes.

music and mirth for amma Campoverde Theatre Group will be holding an evening of music and mirth with their latest show Let Us Entertain You. The show has many styles of music with something for everyone and many short comedy skits to make you chuckle. This well know theatre group is busy rehearsing and putting the polishing touches to the production which will have you singing along with us and stamping your feet. Campoverde always supports local charities and over the years we have given considerable sums of money to many of the charities that help people living here on the southern Costa Blanca. Last year we were very pleased to nominate Reach Out as our principle charity. For this show we have elected to support the new charity AMMA, or to give it its full name Alzheimer’s Mar Menor Association which one of our
members was instrumental in forming. AMMA was formed specifically to offer day care to people with Alzheimer’s and offer carers a little respite. AMMA identified the need to provide day care support to people with the many stages of Alzheimer’s. It also felt there was a need to provide care in both English and Spanish. One of the major issues with Alzheimer’s is the degree it isolates both the sufferer and their carers, day care is one means of helping with social integration. Come along to the Casa de Cultura, San Miguel on Friday 19th, Saturday 20th or Sunday 21st June and enjoy a great night out whilst supporting this very important new and worthwhile charity. For tickets please phone Jude on 96 684 4460 or 676 557 104 or visit Bargain Books San Miguel.

Sony World Photography Awards 2015 British schoolgirl aged 14 wins category prize
Three Brits have won prizes in the world's biggest photography awards Three amateur British photographers have been named winners in the Sony World Photography Awards. Stephanie Anjo, who is just 14 from Guilford in Surrey, has won the Youth Portraiture
construction from multiple photographs taken in London and the Sussex coast in July 2014. The winners of all ten Sony Awards Open Categories including Culture, Environment and Travel have been announced.
The winning photographs were chosen from a record 177, 444 submissions from photographers around the world.
About the Awards:
The Sony World Photography Awards is the world’s biggest photography competition and its aim is simple: to recognise and Category with a picture of her young cousin with her arms raised looking up to the sky. Speaking about her image “Mellow Memories”, the school girl said: “This is a candid shot of my little cousin in her happiest state taken in my grandma’s garden in Portugal.” 'Perfect Symmetry' by Norman Quinn 'Perfect Symmetry' by Norman Quinn Norman Quinn, an architect from Belfast, has won the Open Panoramic Category with his photograph titled “Perfect Symmetry”, which shows two huge cranes dominating the Belfast skyline at sunset. The image has been stitched together using editing software to create an impressive panoramic. Anthony Crossfield, who works as an artist in London, has been named winner of the Open Enhanced Category for his picture taken of a man doing a bomb dive into water. He said the image, which shows the swimmer just about to enter the water, was intended to “undermine stereotypes of masculine strength and power”. Anthony Crossfield's 'Bomb' The image is a digital
Royal Academy of Arts' Tim Marlow:
Bronze statue of lovers embracing at St Pancras station is a lesson in 'how not to do' public art A 30ft bronze statue of lovers embracing at St Pancras International railway station is a lesson in “how not to do” public art, a senior Royal Academy of Arts figure has claimed. Tim Marlow was speaking as he unveiled a new, temporary installation at the London Eurostar
terminal – a clock which will hang above the controversial lovers statue. “Good public sculpture should seem effortless,” Mr Marlow said. “What you have here are two object lessons: one in how to do it, and the other how not to do it.” The clock unveiled by Mr Marlow, the director of artistic programmes at the RA, will be in place for six months. Created by artist Cornelia Parker, and entitled One More Time, it is a working replica of the station’s clock with the colours reversed – a black face with white hands. Mr Marlow described the nearby lovers statue, The Meeting Place, as “terrible”. “How not to do it – and with respect to the artist it’s a bad commission – is the sculpture of the two lovers,” he said. “It’s a terrible, schmaltzy, sentimental piece of kitsch.” The statue has faced brickbats ever since it was unveiled in 2007 following a major renovation of the station. Writer Will Self described it as “crappily kitsch” while Turner Prize-winning artist Jeremy Deller called it “barely a work of art”. And another critic recently called the statue “fatuous” adding it was “idiotic in scale, devoid of artistic life” and called for it to be

The awards have brought untold reward and recognition to those involved and each year offers an incredible $30,000 (USD) in cash prizes plus the latest Sony digital imaging equipment. Free to enter, photographers of all abilities are invited to submit either their best single shots or series of work. The images are judged by the World Photography Organisation and a specially selected jury from the World Photographic Academy which is made up on the photographic industry’s most esteemed individuals. The annual awards gala and ceremony takes place in London, welcoming an international attendance of industry leaders to celebrate the recognition of the best in contemporary photography and each year also pays tribute to one of our masters with the Outstanding Contribution to Photography Award. melted down. But the artist responsible, Paul Day, has consistently defended the piece, saying it evokes the romance of travel. He says he regularly receives messages from the public praising the piece. The new artwork, by Parker who was shortlisted for the Turner Prize in 1997, is a working replica of the station’s clock, and sits just feet in front of its inspiration. “I think the piece above it has the subtlety and complexity of good art. “What Cornelia has done is amazingly simple on one level: the shadow side of time, a clock in reverse, the mirror image,” Mr Marlow said. “The effect of it is beautiful. It makes you think of all sorts of things: time being synced, being eclipsed.” The second clock is suspended from the Grade I-listed roof, and needed permission from English Heritage to be installed. It will remain there until November. The station also boasts a bronze statue of the former Poet Laureate Sir John Betjeman, by Martin Jennings.

Amazing Amount of Money Raised at La Manga Club for MABS
When Helen Holland was about to become Lady Golf Captain at La Manga Resort from Feb 2014 she needed to choose a Charity to support and as Helen’s mother Beverley Taylor is a MABS volunteer, she was invited to attend the opening of the new MABS Centre in San Javier. There, she was able to talk to patients, volunteers and supporters, and was so impressed with what she saw and heard, plus the facilities the Centre could offer, Helen chose to support MABS. Helen decided she would like to aim to buy a piece of an equipment such as a hospital bed which costs 1500 euros and so the fundraising began. By May the sum raised had surpassed the 1500 euros and a bed was duly bought. In June, the highlight of her year of events was a White Night at La Finca Restaurant, La Manga Club which was attended by 120 guests including Jacqui Phillips MBE, President of MABS. The evening included an auction and grand raffle the evening raised a staggering 6000 euros so four wheelchairs were bought. Fundraising continued until the end of Feb 2015 when the grand total of €10,386.00 was announced. In addition
to the money raised word got around La Manga Resort that MABS also had a Charity Shop which sold clothes and furniture, after which the MABS van made frequent collections from the Resort. Janet Bell of MABS Mar Menor attended a golf dinner recently for the official presentation of the cheque and said “This is an amazing amount of money and MABS is truly grateful for all the hard work, instigated by Helen, from the residents of La Manga Club” Janet went on to explain to the diners the work MABS does in the community with carers, drivers, translators, and counsellors. MABS received no funding so is relies totally on voluntary contributions and fundraising.

How to Paint a House
well, and your paint job will not only look better, but it will last for five to eight years on average.
How to Prep for Painting a House
Start by thoroughly examining the outside of the house or outbuilding -- not just the exterior walls but under the eaves, around windows and doors, and along the foundation. Look for split shingles and siding, popped nails, peeling or blistering paint, mildew, and rust stains. Once you've identified the areas that need attention, roll up your sleeves and make the repairs..
If you're lucky, all your house may need before repainting is a good, healthy bath. Wash it down with a hose, and go over stubborn dirt with a scrub brush and warm, soapy water. Or wash it down with a power washer. If you're not so lucky, then you just have to face the fact that a time-consuming and dirty job lies ahead of you. Do the job

a wire brush attachment on an electric drill will remove rust and paint with less effort. For more extensive paint removal, invest in a sharp pull scraper -- a tool with a replaceable blade that's capable of stripping old paint all the way down to bare wood with a single scrape. Hold the scraper so the blade is perpendicular to the wood, apply moderate to firm pressure, and drag it along the surface. Keep the blade flat against the wood so it doesn't gouge the surface. Move an electric orbital sander up and down or back and forth to remove old paint and feather rough edges.
Sanding For smoothing the edges of scraped spots here and there, you can wrap a piece of sandpaper around a wood block. For larger areas, it's less tiring and more effective to use an electric orbital sander. Move it up and down or back and forth across the surface to remove old paint and smooth rough edges at the same time. Don't use an electric disc sander or a belt sander. Both can leave swirls or dips in the wood that will show through a
new coat of paint.
Melting For particularly heavy deposits of paint, heat may be more effective than muscle. One way to apply heat is with an electric paint remover, which is a device with a platelike heating element that "cooks" the paint and has a built-in scraper to pull it off. Wearing heavy gloves, hold the heating element against the surface until the paint sizzles. Pull the remover firmly over the surface. The attached scraper will pull off the cooked paint as you go. Another way to remove old paint is with an electric paint remover -- a device with a platelike heating element that softens the paint and has a built-in scraper.
Liquid Paint Removers Use liquid paint removers only as a last resort. They work well, but they're expensive, especially on big jobs. Also, they can slop onto perfectly good paint, giving you one more problem to deal with.

Once you have removed all the loose paint, you should apply an appropriate primer to some of the distressed areas, especially if your paint-removal system has exposed raw wood or bare metal. The kind of primer you use depends on the kind of paint you'll be using later. For latex paint, use latex primers; for solvent-thinned paints, use solvent-base primers; and for metals, use metal primers. Not only do these coatings provide extra protection against the elements, they also form a firm foundation for finishing paints. Also, priming is always required when you're working on new wood.
Other Prep Work Even if you're fortunate enough to skip spot-scraping, sanding, and repriming, there are still some prepainting chores to attend to. They're much less laborious than removing peeling paint but no less vital to a successful job. Rust stains on siding, overhangs, and foundations need to be removed. Leaks in gutters and downspouts have to be repaired. Loose caulking should be replaced, along with split shingles. Cracks in siding must be filled, sanded, and primed. Mildew must be scrubbed off, and steps should be taken to eliminate its return.
feature
www.soltimes.com
Also, to make painting easier, storm windows, screens, shutters, awnings, wall-mounted light fixtures (be sure to turn the power supply off), the mailbox, and even the street address numbers should be taken down, cleaned, and painted separately. You may even want to remove downspouts, as it's sometimes difficult to get a paintbrush behind them. To make painting easier, remove light fixtures and other accessories. You can typically complete all of these preparations for an entire house in a single day or over a weekend. If you're painting a porch or an outbuilding, it may only take an hour. If you're painting with latex, you can start the following day; solvent-base paint does not adhere well to moist surfaces so wait several days until all the washed surfaces are absolutely dry before applying this type of paint.
Washing Not only will this process get the outside of your house clean and provide a dirt-free foundation for the new coating, it will also help you find surface flaws that have to be dealt with. Depending on just how dirty the outside of your house is and on the house's size, there are two ways to approach this job. If you live in an average-size house, use a garden hose with a carwash brush attachment to bathe the big areas. For cakedon dirt, use a scrub brush or a sponge and a pail of warm water with a good, strong household detergent in it. Work from the top down, and rinse all areas where you scrubbed with water. To remove caked-on dirt, use a scrub brush or a sponge and a pail of warm water with a good, strong household detergent in it. Work from the top down and rinse all areas where you scrubbed. For bigger houses or for faster work on smaller ones, rent a high-pressure spray cleaner. This device attaches to your home's water-supply system and puts out a jet of water at a pressure of about 600 pounds per square inch. It is equipped with a handheld wand tipped with a trigger-activated nozzle. The pressure is high enough to dislodge not only stubborn dirt, mildew, stains, and dried-on sea-spray salt, it's enough to remove peeling paint. In fact, if the jet nozzle is held too close to the surface it can even peel off perfectly sound paint, split open shingles, and drill a hole in siding. So follow the manufacturer's directions and wear goggles and protective clothing. You can use the spray cleaner while working from a ladder -- although scaffolding is better -- but practice at ground level first; the force of the spray against the house could knock you off a ladder if you're not careful. Some of these machines come with separate containers you can fill with cleaning solutions or anti-mildew solutions. Sprayers are so powerful that ordinarily you probably won't need to use a cleaning solution; if you do, remember to rinse the surface with clean water afterward.

siding or rusting nail heads that have left streaks of rust on exterior walls. If so, use sandpaper or steel wool to clean the nail heads. On clapboard siding, use a nail set to recess the nail head about ⅛ inch below the surface of the wood. Dab on a coat of rust-inhibiting primer (unless the nail is aluminum or nonrusting galvanized steel), and let it dry. Then fill the nail hole with spackle or putty. When the filler is dry, give it a coat of primer. For flathead nails, which cannot be recessed, sand the heads until they're shiny, and coat with primer. require twice as much paint as brushes, rollers, or pads for the same surface dimensions. You can get more standard, premixed paint if you run out. Or, if you buy too much, many stores will give credit or refunds for unopened gallons. With custom-colored paints, however, it may be difficult to get a precise match if you run short. Calculate your needs carefully, then buy an extra gallon for insurance.

Covering Shrubs Trees, bushes, and ornamental shrubs can also get in the way of your painting. Prune any branches that hang over the house or brush up against walls. Evergreen trees and tall bushes growing close to the house can be wrapped with canvas drop cloths. Tie one end of a rope around the trunk at least halfway up. Pull the top of the tree out and away from the house, and tie the other end of the rope to a stake placed farther out in the yard. Cover smaller shrubs, flower beds, sidewalks, and driveways with drop cloths to protect them from paint drips and spills.
Estimating How Much Paint You'll Need The size of the house, the condition of the surfaces, the type of coating you select, and the method of application are all factors that will determine the amount of paint you need to buy. Narrow lap siding, shingles or shakes, masonry, or stucco exterior walls can take 10 to 50 percent more paint than smooth, flat walls. Airless sprayers, which apply the equivalent of two coats of paint at one time, may

The paint aisle is full of both inspiration and opinions, and some colors never get a fair shake.
BROWN “Brown is quite idiosyncratic,” says architectural color consultant, Amy Krane. “It’s considered masculine and drab by some,” not to mention the reticence many feel about creating a dark space. But rich browns are fantastic colors for dens and libraries, according to Krane, and using cream trim helps lighten up the effect. “The right brown can create a really cozy environment,” she says. Pair it with greens like chartreuse, pale blue, and even red.
Orange Orange is either loved or reviled, Krane notes. But thanks to brands like Hermes, “it now brings to mind the ultimate in luxury,” designer Tobi Fairley adds. “Color psychology tells us this citrus shades can be invigorating, so it’s great for productivity,” she says. just hit the Michael Jackson’s Neverland Ranch
‘I am completely underwhelmed ‘I am completely underwhelmed’: OK worldwide fails to impress Simon Cowell with ‘boring’ performance as they kick off the latest BGT live semi-finals Six places in the final have already been filled and Thursday night’s Britain’s Got Talent saw more hopeful try and claim a spot in Sunday’s line-up. Details so far are fairly scant, but one certainly jumps out: The asking price is $100 million -“very optimistic,” the Los Angeles Times is told by one Randall Bell, a “specialist in evaluating stigmatized properties.” “It’s hard to get by the fact that Neverland is closely associated with child molestation,” Bell tells the Times. (Indeed, a fascinating Times story during Jackson’s 2005 trial was headlined “Neverland: Paradise or Trap?” and characterized the ranch as “a shrine to innocence or a shortcut to depravity.”) The county assesses it at about $30 million. Jackson created Neverland from what was once known as Sycamore Valley Ranch — the name that it has resumed, according to the listing agents. He lost control of it amid financial problems not long before his 2009 death. Its 2,700-odd acres lie outside Santa Barbara in Los Olivos, California. The six-bedroom main
house has about 12,000 square feet of living space; there are also about 20 other buildings on the property, listing agent Suzanne Perkins told the Wall Street Journal. Sycamore Valley Ranch was built in 1981 by developer William Bone, who is known especially for his golf course properties. He sold it to Jackson in 1988 for $19.5 million. Jackson is said to have put upward of $30 million into Neverland improvements, including an amusement park, a train, animal menageries and more. Most of those additions are gone now -- though the Journal notes without elaborating that “there is currently a llama on the property.” Investment firm Colony Capital, led by Tom Barrack, bought out the $23 million mortgage in 2008 when foreclosure threatened Jackson. Colony and Jackson formed what was intended to be a joint business venture, but he died the next year at age 50.
market
It’s Colony that is now selling Neverland. “Our seller is not encouraging a lot of showings,” listing agent Jeff Hyland told the Journal, and his colleague Suzanne Perkins concurred: “We’re not going to be giving tours.” Time magazine says that “the person selling the ranch is specifically looking for a buyer who doesn’t plan to turn the place into a museum for the singer,” but Yahoo Homes was not able to confirm or corroborate Time’s claim. Yahoo Homes could not reach Hyland or Perkins for comment; their offices instead referred us to a public relations firm, which said that no one would be commenting on the story. However, we did reach the third listing agent, Harry Kolb of Sotheby’s, who -- when we mentioned that he must be deluged with media interest -acknowledged with a laugh, “It’s a wonderful storm.
‘It’s so f****** weird, they ’ve even got my lazy eye’:
David Walliams kicked off the feedback saying: ‘That was like a giant bouncy castle, brilliant fun. Amazing energy and I love how you infuse all the things you do into a brilliant routine.’ Alesha Dixon added: ‘I really like you, if I’m being truthful it didn’t blow me away like you first audition.’ Amanda Holden agreed saying: ‘I agree and it was beautifully choreographed, but it felt like it has less of an impact on us.’ Simon concluded: ‘I am completely underwhelmed, it was like guys on a bouncy castle. ‘I thought it was a bit boring, you got it a bit wrong at the end. I don’t know who came up with the bouncy castle idea but it was a stupid idea.’ Read more: http:// www.dailymail.co.uk/
Ed Sheeran can’t resist taking a selfie comes with his impressive wax figure at Madame Tussauds New York Ed Sheeran seemed very happy with the results of his Madame Tussauds waxwork as it was unveiled on Thursday afternoon. The British singer was on hand to present the figure in New York as he came face-to-face with his double in front of select media. Speaking before the waxwork was revealed he explained the creation process saying: ‘They put you in grey underwear and a grey vest and you stand there for two hours as strangers poke you.’ He added: ‘I’m excited for my parents to see it. I think it’ll be quite weird for me but I think for my parents to see what they created’. When he finally saw the figure, he exclaimed: ‘It’s so f****** weird. They’ve even got my lazy eye in, it’s kind of pointing that way.’ The singer couldn’t help but whack out his phone in order to take a selfie with the waxwork, which was clothed and carrying a guitar donating by Ed himself. Sharing the snap on Instagram afterwards, he captioned the picture saying: ‘Met my waxwork at Madame Tussaud, he didn’t say much but he’s got a bulge so it’s all good.’ Earlier in the day, Ed tagged along on a lunch date with Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris and it was a thoroughly British affair as the trio headed to English pub The Spotted Pig in West Village. The threesome were seen heading into the restaurant together with Sheeran, 24, walking a few steps behind the couple. The English crooner could be seen in a plaid shirt and black jeans with his trademark ginger locks slightly ruffled and plenty of stubble. Earlier this month, Thinking Out Loud singer Sheeran had nothing but praise for the Bounce hit maker as he talked to ZM Online backstage at his show in Auckland, New Zealand. ‘He’s a really nice guy. Really, really nice guy,’ he said, adding: ‘There are certain people that are just nice people in the industry.’ ‘I met him maybe a year ago,’ he continued, once again adding that Taylor’s new man was a ‘really, really good guy.’ Read more: http://www. dailymail.com

A successful workout program requires tracking and progression, says Brynn Jinnett, owner of the Refine Method in New York City. By keeping tabs of your fitness, you'll be more inclined to improve it. Create a baseline fitness test, making sure to include moves that measure the strength of all of your major muscles. Maybe you gauge things like the number of pushups you can do, how long you can hold a plank, how many lunges you can do in 60 seconds, and how long you can hold a wall squat. Then make it your goal to beat those numbers one month from now.

Al ‘Scarface’ Capone
Alphonse ‘Al’ Capone was born in 1899 into a respectable Italian family in Brooklyn; one of nine children he left school at 14 after hitting a teacher in the face. He first worked in a bowling alley where he met Johnny Torrio a gangster who recruited him to his James Street Boys gang. Torrio mentored Al; teaching him to always project a smart and respectable image. He got the nickname Scarface after he’d insulted a woman and her brother Frank Gallucio had attacked him with a knife. Torrio ordered Capone to apologise to the family and later Capone employed Frank as his bodyguard. At 19 Capone married an Irish Catholic Mae Coughlin; then under 21 his parents had to give their permission. Johnny Torrio had left for Chicago to run a brothel business for his boss Big Jim Colosimo. In 1919 shortly after marrying, Capone also moved to Chicago to assist Torrio. Big Jim was soon killed (allegedly by Capone), with Johnny taking over. Prohibition started in 1920 giving new opportunities for Capone and his boss. Chicago, on the edge of Lake Michigan (and Canadian border) made it easy to import Canadian whiskey. Only a day’s drive away are New York and Atlantic City so Rum and Scotch whisky were smuggled in. Two of Al’s brothers worked for him, Ralph ran his beer brewing and bottling business, Frank was sharp suited like Al with a reputation for violence and was his enforcer. By chance a third brother James became a prohibition

agent, In 1923 the new mayor of Chicago started to clean up the city; Torrio sent Al and his brother Frank to a suburb called Cicero were they infiltrated the Republican run council putting the leader Klenha and others on the mob payroll, then it was easy to transfer brothels, gambling dens and speakeasies to the area. Al appointed Frank as council liaison, so when in 1924 the Democrats tried to win local elections Frank had men armed with machine guns and shotguns at polling booths to ensure locals ‘voted right.’ In response Chicago Police sent plain clothes reinforcements. Al and Frank mistook the policemen as rival gang members and a shootout ensued leaving Frank dead. Al was heartbroken at the loss of his brother and retaliated by kidnapping officials killing one of them and stealing ballot boxes ensuring Klenha won again. Torrio retired and returned to Italy after a failed assassination attempt; leaving the business to Capone. By this time even the new Mayor of Chicago was being bribed and Capone’s businesses were turning over a $100 million a year. Capone courted the press and was often photographed at restaurants and the opera. He was a philanthropist too setting up soup kitchens during the Great Depression
and gave lots of money to charity. Once after a failed attempt on his life had resulted in the injury of a mother and son, he paid their hospital bills. Strangely the police never had enough evidence to convict Capone on any charges. He used cash for everything to avoid a paper trail but after buying and renovating a mansion in Florida the government used that as evidence to jail him for 9 years in 1931 for tax evasion. Capone almost got away with it but his plan to bribe the jury was discovered and the jurors were switched at the last moment. Capone bought special privileges whilst inside at first but then got transferred to a new prison - Alcatraz. Here he couldn’t communicate with his gang and with prohibition ending in 1935 business dried up. Capone suffered from syphilis and was released in 1939 to Florida a very sick man. The disease attacked his brain leaving him with a mental age of a child. He died quietly at home surrounded by family in 1947 aged just 48!

IT’S THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN!!!
Now is the time to get ready for the rush of summer visitors that put money in your bank to help pay for the up keep of your holiday homes! So many people do not understand if they rent their properties out they need to keep it in good order – yes that may mean painting, gardening, replacing kitchen equipment, linen, towels, furniture, sofas that are tired or uncomfortable and not forgetting the sagging mattresses. You have to view this project of yours as a business. Take a good look at your property and say “Would I want to pay good money, my hard earned holiday money for this place?” Take into consideration that there are hundreds of properties to rent. This is your chance to impress your guests and get repeat bookings. So if your property is not up to the right standard, DO something about it!! One of the most common complaints that we hear all the time in the shop is that holiday clients have a bad back or can´t sleep because of a lumpy, sagging mattress. Your holiday clients are here to relax, so if the bed frame squeaks please change it! No-one wants the Out Laws or kids knowing what is occurring in the bedroom (which is part of a holiday, relaxed and away from the worries of home) don´t forget the teenagers who find it all very gross – so no street cred there then!! The next common complaint is that there is not enough patio furniture to enjoy the outdoor life in the sun (which is one of the main reasons they are in Spain after all). Ideally your guests would like a quality patio set, outdoor dining table and chairs, comfortable seating and the all important parasol to offer a little shade from the sun. And if you have advertised that your holiday home is for 6 people, then guests
rightly expect that there will be a sun lounger for each person to while away the hours around the pool. So, you have sorted out the mattresses, beds and outdoor areas. Now it is time to look at your sofas. Do they need replacing or do they need a good clean? Even if you can´t afford replace the sofas then make sure that they are clean. Most sofas have removable covers that can be washed, so put in the machine at your lowest temperature and spin. Take out of machine and put back the fillings and dry on terrace. Doing it this way it is easier to put the fillings back in the damp covers as the material is more pliable and best part is no ironing required. For the base of the sofas use a little washing up liquid in warm water and sponge down the bases Finally sponge down again with clear, warm water. Leave doors and windows open to dry, or if you can take the sofa outside to dry. Job done. Feeling proud of yourselves now? We are not finished yet! Here are a few more hints to make your property stand out
from the crowd. • do the curtains need washing? If so have a Spring clean! • No curtains? Get some, as bare windows make the place look unfinished. • Do the sofas need a bit of colour with some cushions? Buy some. • Get a few pictures or mirrors on the walls to add interest. • If throws or bedspreads seen better days, brighten then up with a wash. Or if you have the budget, invest in some new ones. • Give your property a friendly, homely feel which gives a welcome “glad you are here” to your clients. Remember every client has access to a very large network of potential NEW clients for you for this year and following years? If you don’t invest in your holiday property, then you have just missed an opportunity for your best form of advertising. - word of mouth! So friends, family, probably two lots of work colleagues, chats with other Mum’s at the school gates and other social events.
Ouch! That hurts your bank balance. If you have a good rental agent they will tell you when things need to be replaced. Keeping properties in good order means they can get more rentals every year for you. Listen to your agent, they know your competition and they will be able to advise you on how to maximise your letting potential and compete with other rental homes in the area. After all, they don’t want complaints that are going to affect their reputation! Let’s face it, if you keep your property up to standard , when you stay in it yourselves you will also have a better holiday as you will be comfortable and will want come to Spain more often for your breaks. It might sound like a lot of work, but if you want to maximise your rental income then it has to be done. But the good news is that if you keep things up to date and fit out your holiday home properly, the list of jobs is never as big. Enjoy your property in the sun with the good life of Spain as well. THE ONLY PROPERTY SUPPLEMENT ON THE COSTAS!!!! LOOKING TO BUY OR RENT? FIND YOUR DREAM HOME INSIDE! Home Mortgages Rose 19.7% in March The number of new mortgages constituted on homes listed in the property registers reached a total of 19,806 in March, which represents a 19.7% increase over the same month in 2014, according to data published by the National Statistics Institute earlier this week, relating to transactions carried out in previous months. With March’s year-on-year increase, home mortgages in Spain accumulated ten consecutive months of double digit increases. However, the increase registered in March is almost ten points less than that recorded in February, when the signing of new mortgages on homes rose by 29.2%. The average value of the mortgages constituted on homes reached 101,989 euros in the third month of the year, representing a rise of 0.3% over the same month of 2014, while the capital loaned for these mortgages increased by 20.1% yearon-year, to over 2,019 million euros. Month-on-month (March over February), the number of home mortgages fell by 7%, compared to an increase of 0.4% recorded a year earlier, while the capital loaned decreased by 13.4%, in contrast with the monthly decline of 1.1% recorded in March 2014. Europa Press reported that, in the first quarter of the year, the signing of new mortgages on homes accumulated an increase of 22.9% over the same period of 2014, with
increases of 27.4% in the capital loaned, and 3.7% in the average mortgage value.
Spanish Government Approves New PIVE Plan
The regions which recorded the greatest number of mortgages constituted on housing in March were Madrid (3,794), Andalucía (3,397) and Catalonia (3,229), while the regions which registered the highest year-on-year increases in home mortgages were Cantabria (+78.9%), Navarra (+64.8%) and Madrid (+38.6%). Moreover, the regions where most capital was loaned for the constitution of home mortgages were Madrid (517.9 million euros), Catalonia (377.4 million) and Andalucía (291.5 million euros). Month-on-month, the regions where the number of new mortgages on homes increased most were Navarra (+47.5%), the Canary Islands (+34.8%) and Cantabria (+14.9%), while the largest decreases were registered in the Basque Country (-37%) and Andalucía (-15.7%). keyero.com
The Spanish Government’s Council of Ministers last week approved a Royal Decree renewing the Efficient Vehicle Incentive Programme, PIVE 8 Plan, following the success of the previous versions of the plan, and the resulting positive effect on the Spanish economy and the environment. The new plan, which is the last of the series, has a provision of 225 million euros.
and a reduction in CO2 of some 850,000 tonnes. As published on the Government website, La Moncloa, Soraya Sáenz de Santamaría also stressed that these PIVE plans have allowed the market to accumulate 19 consecutive months of growth and a 30.5% increase in new car registrations in the month of March. In 2014, close to 1 million new vehicles were registered in Spain.
The Vice-President of the Government, Soraya Sáenz de Santamaría, highlighted the fact that once the eighth round of the plan has concluded, some 1,185,000 old vehicles will have been replaced by new ones. Moreover, an annual saving of 412 million litres of fuel will have been made, which means the importation of some 2.5 million barrels less of petrol per annum,
The PIVE 8 Plan maintains the main characteristics of the previous plan, although one new feature is that the beneficiary will obtain a subsidy of 750 euros provided by the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism, and another 750 euros from the car manufacturer or dealership. keyero

Climate and Water Quality
ABOUT SAN JAVIER
San Javier is a town situated next to the Mar Menor (little sea), the biggest salt lake in Europe, possessing a natural beauty and an incomparable weather. Spring is a permanent season in San Javier. San Javier is also home to some of the most beautiful beaches in Spain, both on the Mar Menor coastline and on the Mediterranean one, and its two villages Santiago de la Ribera and La Manga del Menor are a paradise for leisure and water sports. If, in addition of all the services and the natural beauty of the town, you share with us the marvellous evenings at the Jazz Festival, you can be sure that you will never forget your visit in San Javier.

Spanish property market recovery fastest in the Balearic Islands
The Spanish Balearic Islands, which reported some of the lowest house price falls in Spain during the six year economic downturn, is now experiencing the fastest and highest rises in the country. The strong property market is being supported by a healthy tourism sector and a multi-national house buying population, according to Alejandra Vanoli, managing director of Mallorca Sotheby’s International Realty. She pointed out that Calvia alone has 19,000 non-Spanish residents from 100 different countries and this year the firm is selling more houses than ever. In Ibiza it is a similar story. According to Glynn Evans, the firm’s managing director in Ibiza the international buyers are attracted by exciting culinary business ventures from multi-Michelin starred chefs, supercar and powerboat championships, 70 metre plus berths for the finest private mega yachts and several new five star hotels. On top of this, at the end of April, the Bank of Spain confidently declared an end to the property crisis. José Luis Malo de Molina, said that ‘the adjustment in the housing sector, in principle, is complete’ and ‘the process of price adjustment, in principle, has already bottomed out’. The mortgage market is also well into recovery. Data from Spain’s National Institute of Statistics show that property loans in the Balearics, for example, were up 36.2% in February 2015 over the previous year, above the national average

of 29.2%. Meanwhile, the Spanish rental sector is also improving. Average rents increased by 0.2% in April, compared to the previous month, to €6.98 per square meter per month, according to the data from property portal Fotocasa, and year on year they increased by 1%. ‘In the last few months we have gone from registering widespread declines in home rental prices, to registering increases in every region except one. Rental prices, therefore, are starting to increase in most of the country,’ the Fotocasa report said. But rents are still down 31.1% since the peak of the rental market in May 2007 when it was €10.12 per square meter per month and all regions have seen serious declines since the peaks before the economic downturn. Rental prices have fallen the most in Aragon with a decline of 41.9%, are down 37.8% in Cantabria, down 36.5% in Valencia, down 35.9% in Castilla-LaMancha, down 34.8% in Murcia, down 30.5% in Rioja, down 30% in Asturias and down 29.5% in Andalucia, since the peak of the market. However, prices increased in April month on month in all regions except in Castilla-La Mancha where they fell by 0.1%. Rental prices increased the most in La Rioja with growth of 4.2%, they increase by 3% in the Balearic Islands, and by 0.9% in Madrid propertywire.com

fail to keep up to date with their contributions to the community funds. In the event of a property on which payments are outstanding being sold, the new owner is responsible for up to three years’ past payments plus the year in progress being made. If the monthly payments reach 150€, there can therefore be a debt of over 6,000 euros. Now, however, the notaries will have automatic access to the records kept by the official College of Property Administrators, enabling them to see the state of the accounts during the signing of the deeds. This will probably lead to some hurried renegotiations in order to allow the sale to go through, but the bottom line is that it will save solicitors some work and provide an extra guarantee for those purchasing homes in Spain.

Vendors must be up to date with neighbours community payments Among the many reasons for recommending that anyone buying property in Spain should contract the services of a good solicitor is the need to ensure that the home being bought doesn’t carry any charges or debts, and a new system being employed by the notaries in this country should contribute to making this process more watertight. Outstanding mortgages and other charges will normally be revealed by the Nota Simple from the property registry office, but another kind of debt concerns neighbours’ community payments. These can often consist of a significant amount, especially if the community has lift or communal swimming pool maintenance costs, but inevitably sometimes owners

BUY SELL RENT MAINTAIN 6 Simple Rules for Getting Rid of Dust
Sawdust, plaster dust, drywall dust, any kind of dust— none of it is good for your lungs, your floor, your tools, or your desire not to start a fire. Getting rid of it is both essential and easy. Rule 1: Catch dust while it’s airborne Because dust is first suspended in the air, it makes sense to use air to transport it for disposal. A wet–dry shop vacuum will take care of most of it. For example, hook a Dust Deputy cyclone collector ($100) to work with any vac and you create an efficient two-stage dust collector that mimics what industrial wood shops use. The funnelshaped Deputy swirls wood chips and dust like water going down the drain, collecting them in the bottom of the tank—the first stage. The remaining fine particles continue to the shop vacuum and its air filter. Rule 2: Be inventive Poke around woodworking-supply websites and you see all kinds of adapters, hoses, and shrouds to hook up to your equipment. That’s how we found the dust-trapping ChopShop Saw Hood from FastCap ($142, fastcap.com). Sawdust flies against the slippery back of the hood and falls by gravity into a spare cardboard box. Mission accomplished. If you prefer a home-brewed solution, make a hood out of plywood, particleboard, or sheet metal. Lumberyards did this all the time at the height of the radial-arm-saw era. Rule 3: Sweep up the rest Don’t waste your time with cheap brooms and a

flimsy dustpan. Buy a contractor-grade push broom, a commercial-duty bench brush like a good old fashioned model made with horsehair and a wood block. They work incredibly well at removing even the finest talc-like dust from work surfaces and work clothing. Get a big aluminum dustpan to round out your dust removal kit. Rule 4: Dress for dust

Spend a little extra for a better quality dust mask. A disposable particulate respirator with a foam perimeter seal and a valve will cost about $2 each compared to a few cents for a disposable dust mask, but it’s worth every cent. It’s more comfortable, provides greater filtration, and its breather valve reduces safety glass fogging. Rule 6: Step out in style
Sometimes you just can’t help but create a lot of airborne dust, despite using dust collection equipment. Wear coveralls that you can slip out of easily when you go inside the house or into your car. Take a bench brush and knock the worst of the dust off you, then slip out of the coveralls

Buy an entrance mat to put at the door of the shop to get dust and wood shavings (or worse, metal shavings) off your feet when you leave. This keeps these abrasive particles out of the house or your car. A scrubbing type entrance mat or product like the Mud Chucker is even more effective.

¿Por qué?
Why does Alqueria have a stable population? Stable, at least in terms of numbers. Stability is not a word one would apply to the mental state of the residents. Psychiatrists have written books, given after dinner speeches and generally ‘grown fat’ on the collective dysfunctional psyche of Alqueria’s population. The question could be better put, thus. “Why do people live there?”. Alqueria was rebuilt in a valley below the Sierra Alhamilla during Spain’s Muslim years. The Valley suffers mysterious temperature inversions due to complex climatic aberrations. The Village can be superheated, in the high forties centigrade and then within an hour the unfortunate residents of Alqueria shiver as the mercury plummets. Strange mists occur for no apparent reason, green, smelly and worryingly sticky. Where they come from, why they linger and where they go to are mysteries, unfathomable even to the most gifted meteorologists. They cause respiratory problems, aggravate the eye’s cornea and for some inexplicable reason can cause the bowels to become autonomous. Perhaps the most baffling atmospheric phenomenon affecting Alqueria is its smell. ‘The Alquerian Pong’ as it has be dubbed by observers is omnipresent. It infiltrates the highways and byways of the Pueblo. It pollutes sealed rooms, refrigerators and the glove-compartments of cars. It is always there. Alqueria does however have bad drains. The result of an early botched attempt by Roman engineers to bring sanitation to this backwater but ‘The Pong’ is a different kind of odour. A cross between Nigora Goat pheromones and very ripe
Stilton cheese is perhaps the best description f o r something that tries very hard to defy description. The people themselves are continually at each other’s throats. The two barrios comprising the Village hate each other will a will. Riots, civil unrest and general mischief is a daily occurrence and is very debilitating for the infrastructure and the tempers of Alqueria. Disowned by the Spanish Government after being somehow bypassed by the Christian Reconquest, perhaps on purpose, Alqueria became a stateless village. Declaring a republic they now fend for themselves. The only income is from their Remitroot crop. Alqueria being the only place where soil conditions are right for this remarkable plant to grow. They make their own laws, choose not to collect any form of taxation and govern by referendum. So to return to the original question. Why do people continue to live in this seemingly hostile environment and put their financial faith in the vagaries of the Remitroot growing season? Perhaps John Milton had the answer when he wrote. “Better to reign in Hell, than serve in Heaven”

My wife has just recently been diagnosed with Alzheimer decease. It is at an early stage, but I would like to know if there is anything we should be doing from a legal point of view while she is still of able mind. (The original question was much longer with a lot more detail and involving other matters also. With the clients permission we have prepared this abbreviated version.) A. We would recommend that your wife issues you with a Spanish enduring power of attorney. (This is quick, easy and even though it could vary depending on the solicitor it will not cost you more than 300 euro). We have a booklet on the different types of powers of attorney you can sign in these circumstances. Simply request it by e-mail and we will post or e-mail it to you free of charge. Unlike in the UK this can only be issued while your wife understands what she is doing. If it was required later on a much more complicated procedure would be required using the local courts (this is an expensive and long procedure). The power of attorney is necessary because the moment she is no longer of able mind you will be able to handle her accounts, sell the property, etc while if this has not been done her accounts can not be touched , you can not sell a jointly owned
property etc. etc. The one thing she can not issue you with power of attorney for is for signing a new will, which is why we would recommend that you take a good look at her will to make sure that it is correct as she will not be able to modify it in any way the moments she no longer understands what she is doing. Make sure that it complies with the New Directive 650/2012 , that the beneficiaries are those she wishes , that you are comfortable with the named executor etc. etc. Remember when she is no longer of able mind the will can not be changed under any circumstance .I would look at your own will also, as if you have left everything to your wife you may wish to change this in favour of perhaps one of your children. In the UK. I would also recommend that you put things in motion to obtain a full enduring power of attorney. The forms can be downloaded from the internet and you can start things off by post. In the UK this can also be done after she is no longer of able mind, but there is no harm in doing it beforehand. We would strongly recommend a visit to your solicitor to discuss your situation in particular and to address at least the matters explained above.

A Furry Octopus
Mr Tommy Fluffypants had to go to the vet to have his rabies jab and be chipped. We were all organised, with the cat flap blocked off by a 9 litre bottle of water, and the box on the kitchen table. Tommy was reclining with all the indolence of a Roman Emperor on one of our 4 kitchen chairs. I picked him up, but as my hands closed around his little body he slithered eel-like through my grasp. However, I reacted quickly enough to catch hold of his magnificent fluffy tail, and for a second we both pulled, putting the integrity of that tail in extreme jeopardy, but I prevailed, and reeled him in. I gathered all his legs together, rounded him into a furry ball, and propelled him headfirst into the box. But….as he was about to pass through the doorway he managed to free an arm, and stick it out at right angles. I recaptured the arm, but a leg had appeared. No sooner had I captured the leg than another arm materialised. I grabbed both arms and both legs, but he stretched his head up, so that I couldn’t get him in without decapitating him. I had his arms in one hand, his legs in the other. I let go of his legs to push his head through, reckoning that if I got his front half in the back half might follow. He braced his liberated legs against the doorway, slid backwards straight through my hands, shouldered the bottle of water aside, and broke for freedom. Round 2 involved taking the top

josbiggs@hotmail.co.uk off the box, and plonking him in from above. Despite being wrapped in a towel, he still managed to behave like a furry but extremely slippery octopus, with bits of his appendages appearing from all angles, but gravity was on my side, and we eventually got most of him in. Now all we had to do was close the box without trapping any part of Tommy in the catches. He bucked and wriggled; I could close the box, but not with his arms, legs and tail intact, and eventually he managed to get enough of himself out of the box to effect a second and final escape past the water bottle and into the garden. We made another appointment and borrowed Nancy’s box, the top of which is a lid with a simple but secure catch. Does anyone know where I can buy such a box locally?
Famed Spanish folk singer Pantoja leaves jail for family visit Famed Spanish folk singer Isabel Pantoja has been let out of prison for four days after completing part of her two-year sentence for money laundering. The 58-year-old smiled and waved to fans and journalists Monday as she left the Alcala de Guadiara jail in Seville province Monday with her brother. The fixture in Spain’s gossip magazines and TV shows qualified for the pass to visit relatives but must return to jail later this week. Pantoja was convicted of laundering money for Julian Munoz, a
former boyfriend and mayor of the resort city Marbella. She was previously married to the famous bullfighter Francisco “Paquirri” Rivera, who died in the bullring in 1984. Munoz was sentenced to seven years in the scheme of providing building permits in Marbella in return for bribes. Associated free press

What is feta cheese? Feta cheese is a rich and creamy soft cheese of Greece, authentically made of whole sheep’s milk, although many are now made with goat’s milk or a mixture of the two. It has been around for centuries, and hardly a Greek meal does not incorporate feta cheese in some manner. It is so popular in Greece that very little gets exported. In fact, most of the imported feta cheese comes from Italy Nowadays, many countries produce forms of feta cheese, including Australia, Denmark, Germany, and of course, the United States. However, modern-day, less robust versions may be made from cow’s milk, skimmed milk, or partially-skimmed milk. Feta cheese is classified as a soft
cheese made of 45 to 60 percent fat whole sheep’s or goat’s milk. The better fetas are aged (but not ripened) 4 to 6 weeks, cured in a salty whey and brine. Known as a pickled cheese, the flavor of feta becomes sharper and saltier with age. It is creamy white in color with small holes, a crumbly texture, and is normally found in square cakes with no rind. Feta is prized in salads or eaten as a snack and has the added benefit of melting quickly in hot dishes such as in filling for spanakopita or stifado. Unfortunately, due to the great demand for feta cheese in Greece and restrictions on unpasteurized milk, you will probably have difficulty finding the real thing outside of Greece. If you do find it, it will be pricey. Most of us will have to suffer using
an inferior but still serviceable imitation. Feta Cheese Selection and Storage The finest feta cheese should be purchased direct from its brine bath. If it is pre-packaged, it should have some of the brine in the packaging to keep it moist. Feta cheese is best when eaten fresh, so always check the date. If you will not be consuming it immediately, store feta cheese in a brine or milk bath. The milk bath will reduce the saltiness and help keep the cheese moist and mild in flavor. Properly stored in brine or milk and refrigerated, feta cheese will last up to 3 months. Feta cheese is not a candidate for freezing.

"Corrida De Toros"
The survival of bullfighting is debatable. There will always be supporters, and if the corrida is not banned by law (as happened in the case of fox hunting by hounds in Britain in November 2004), it will probably remain an attraction for a minority. Despite the ban on fox hunting, aficionados inBritain have found various way of circumventing the law. See article in www.telegraph.co.uk Sometimes there are attempts to introduce bullfighting or a variation into countries where there is a tradition of animal sports e.g. into parts of western USA and Canada, where rodeos are still popular. Periodic revival of popularity of bullfighting is possible owing to the charisma of certain matadors. In the late 50s and 60s the rivalry between Antonio Ordóñez and his flamboyant brother-in-law Luis Dominguín had spectators on the edge of their seats. In the 1960s, the “corrida” was dominated by Manuel Benítez (El Cordobés), the first bullfighting star of the TV age and pop idol of his generation. From the mid 70s Francisco Rivera (Paquirri) was the star. He was also a celebrity for marrying first Carmen Ordóñez, the daughter of the legendary Antonio Ordóñez, and later pop star Isabel Pantoja. He himself became a legend, however, when he died shortly after being gored in the in the ring in 1984. Television captured the bloody moment as Paqurri was tossed around like a doll. Shortly after, a cameraman from the public network (TVE) filmed Paquirri, calmly informing the attending doctor of where and how far the horn had penetrated his thigh. It was a film that was shown repeatedly on TV for months. Ordóñez was the favourite "torero" of both Ernest Hemingway and the actor Orson Welles. Welles had his ashes buried in the Ordóñez 's family garden in Ronda, the spiritual home of modern bullfighting. In the 1990s it was the turn of the charismatic Jesús Janeiro (Jesulín de Ubrique), a matador who also made his mark by attracting a large following of young women. In 1994 he filled Madrid`s main bullring for a "ladies only" night and was rewarded with a shower of lingerie for his showmanship. The latest star is José Tomás who returned to the ring in June of 2007 after an absence of 5 years. The effect was electrifying as half empty arenas were filled and newspapers devoted entire pages to his exploits (even El País, Spain's left leaning and perhaps most prestigious newspaper, which had virtually eliminated bullfighting from its pages). His return started in Barcelona and was attended by aficionados and celebrities from all over Spain. Inside the plaza there was a capacity 19,000 crowd, outside about 5,000 protesters. José Tomás has always been something of an enigma. Unlike previous matadors, he is said not to pray before a fight and doesn’t surround himself with images of saints or the Virgin Mary. Reluctant to give interviews, he is solemn and reflective, a far cry from the flamboyance and showmanship that has become part of the bullfighting
world. His upright style in the ring enthrals the purists who compare him to the legendary Manolete, by general consensus the greatest of all matadors. Matadoras Bullfighting has popularly been viewed as a male pursuit, but in fact women bullfighters have appeared periodically in some form since the birth of modern bullfighting in the 18th century. Opposition was always strong and the arguments against matadoras similar through the centuries: they degraded the bullfight; they threatened social stability; they were an affront to public decency and lowered moral standards; they should be at home and so on. The opposition came from moralists, purist aficionados and bullfighters themselves, many of whom threatened not to appear in the ring with a matadora. Fans in general, on the other hand, were more accepting if the sale of tickets to corridas including matadoras was anything to go by. Still, there were periodic bans, and a long hiatus during the Franco dictatorship (1939-75). Following a successful appeal against the ban in 1974, matadoras or señoritas toreras (as they were called) again made an appearance. The best known is Cristina Sánchez who took her alternativa (formal investiture in the presence of a veteran matador) in 1996 in Nimes, southern France. She retired 3 years later, however, asserting that she couldn't get top billing and that some bullfighters would not fight if she was on the programme. In December 2009, the Catalan Parliament is to debate whether to introduce a law to ban bullfights in Catalonia. This follows a petition presented by over 180,000 to have the corridabanned. Nevertheless, the petition has provoked heated debated with some opponents accusing supporters of being anti-Spanish and

hypocritical (other activities involving bulls --e.g. chasing bulls through the streets, sometimes with flaming torches on their horns-- are not affected). Supporters argue that the bulls should be protected under the laws that prohibit cruelty to animals; in addition, the corrida is cruel, and does not accord with the sensibilities of the 21st century. July 2010. By a vote of 68 to 55, the Catalan parliament banned bullfighting in the region; the ban will take effect in January 2012. It happens that the ban was enacted shortly after the Spain's constitutional court had struck down parts of Catalonia's autonomy charter, including the right to call itself a "nation." As a result, many aficionados have viewed the decision by the Catalan deputies as "revenge" for their constitutional setback, especially since the local Catalan tradition ofcorrebous --a form of bull-baiting still popular in village fiestas of southern Catalonia-- was not prohibited. There is likely to be a large grain of truth in this, but at the same time animal rights activists --while deploring the mixing of nationalist politics and animal welfare-argue that this is but a growing trend in Spanish society. Interestingly, the neighbouring regional government of
Valencia (where Valenciano --a Catalan variant -- is co-official with Castilian) has protected bullfighting as part of its "cultural heritage." July 31, 2011. Spain's socialist government has officially recognised bullfighting as an "artistic discipline and cultural product," a move that has infuriated animal rights activists while delighting aficionados. September 17, 2011. The last bullfight in Barcelona is scheduled for September 25th. Included in the list of toreros is José Tomás. September 2012. Following a decision by the ruling conservative party, Partido Popular (PP), bullfighting has now returned to the state run public television (TVE). A live bullfight was transmitted from Valladolid on Wednesday, September 5, the first transmission in six years, after it was banned by the socialist government of the day, the PSOE. Bullfighting was, afirmed the Prime Minister, Manuel Rajoy, a part of Spain's tradition. The decision was greeted with enthusiasm by bullfighting aficionados; not so by critics who see it as both cruel and an anachronism.

The Mar Menor is a huge (135 square kilometres) salt-water lagoon, separated from the Mediterranean by the 24 kilometre long La Manga del Mar Menor (The Strip). The average depth of the Mar Menor is four metres and at its maximum it is seven metres which means that the seabed slopes very gradually and you have to get several hundred metres in before the water is of any depth. The Mar Menor’s salinity provides buoyancy so it is, supposedly, one of the safest places to swim in the world. The mineral-rich waters are said to have therapeutic effects and because of this the area has a significant spa tourism industry. The sludge in the salt pans is also credited with beneficial effects on the health, so there are often dozens of mud people wallowing in it at any one time.Playa Paraiso beach on a summer weekendThe beach at Playa Paraiso is very popular, partly because it has road access right onto the beach. On summer weekends it will be packed with Spanish families, who move most of their house onto the beach. The sea is very shallow, with netted off areas to exclude watersports, fishing and jellyfish. The jellyfish are mainly harmless and much reduced in numbers from previous years, apart from the summer of 2006 when they were back with a vengeance. Playa Honda beach During the week the beach is quiet.

Flea and Tick Control for Cats
Hilarious Photos Proving Cats Want Humans Dead Cats are some of the very best pets a human can have within their home. At least that statement is true for the first few weeks, just before the cat learns your habits, your schedule, and exactly the best options available to destroy your life and your entire humble abode. A cat wants you to believe they’re furry, cute, and loving, but in reality they really don’t care about you in the least bit. In fact, a cat has complete animosity towards its surroundings more often than not. Sometimes people make really nice dinners in the hopes of entertaining their friends and family over a lovely evening. Instead, your pet cat has another plan in mind when they discover the table is all set with delicious looking turkey and other meats. That cat is now the sole owner of said food, so you had better not cross him. The backyard has a lot of interesting happenings, including birds, bugs, small children, large, grown adults, and perhaps even a small dog or two. A cat will find this hunting ground to be the ideal spot to perfect their catch and release methods, or maybe they will just practice their ambush tactics before messing with you in the middle of the night. A bath is certainly necessary when you own pets in your home, but that doesn’t mean said pet is going to be exactly happy about the affair. This particular cat is showing exactly how he feels about dealing with water, and the look on his face should be a firm warning to Jack was one of never try something like that again…or else.

Fleas and ticks can cause some serious health problems for your feline friend. We offer our top tips and advice for keeping your cat flea and tick free. Fleas are a common parasite in cats of all ages. Ticks are found predominantly in bushy areas along the east coast of Australia, and in the warmer months of the year. However, even cat owners who live in suburbia can’t be complacent; some animals have been affected by ticks without having left their back yard. Your cat’s health can be adversely affected by fleas and ticks, and they need to be treated regularly to keep them free from these little blood sucking parasites. The difficulty is that cats are more sensitive to insecticidal chemicals than dogs are, so you must only treat your feline friend with products that are registered for use in that species. THE EFFECT OF FLEAS AND TICKS ON CATS Some cats don’t seem to be terribly affected by fleas. They may scratch a little when they get bitten, and that’s as far as it goes. Others can develop an allergic reaction to flea bites, which causes a severe itch. The condition known as miliary eczema or miliary dermatitis can be due to flea allergy. This is characterised by small crusty sores all over a cat’s body, often accompanied by hair loss. If your cat has a lot of fleas, he may lose enough blood to become anaemic. Small kittens in particular are susceptible to flea anaemia, and it can be fatal. Fleas also spread tapeworms in cats, which don’t cause serious illness but can make your cat’s bottom itchy. Ticks are much more dangerous. They inject a toxin while they feed that causes paralysis and death. The first thing you’ll notice is that your cat’s meow sounds a little strange and he appears weak in his hind legs. Paralysis progresses until he is no longer able to walk, and eventually he won’t be able to breathe. WHEN FLEAS TAKE OVER If you find that your cat is being over-run by fleas or has picked up a few ticks on his travels around your neighbourhood, then you need to act fast. Fleas can be brought under control by giving your cat a Capstar tablet. These kill fleas within 30 minutes and before you know it, your cat will be completely fleafree. Couple this with a topical treatment for longer lasting control. The fleas you see on your cat are only 1% of your problem, with the remaining 98% of your home’s flea population in the form of eggs, larvae and pupae. You won’t get anywhere with your flea control if you don’t tackle them too. Purchase a can of insecticidal spray or an insecticidal fogger that contains an insect growth regulator. This will prevent the immature fleas developing into blood sucking adults. If you happen to find a tick on your cat, then remove it immediately with a pair of fine tipped tweezers. Put the tweezers between the tick and your cat’s skin, and pull firmly. Don’t worry if the mouthparts are left behind; his body will treat them just like a splinter and they will eventually work their way out. Both fleas and ticks will bite humans, causing itchy red lumps on your skin. People can also develop paralysis from the bite of a tick but this isn’t very common. Elizabeth Is Missing by Emma Healey.
Book Review
“I’ve missed this tiny thing for nearly seventy years. And now the earth, made sludgy and chewable with the melting snow, has spat out a relic. Spat it into my hands. But where from?” It seems that Healey’s paternal grandmother who had been showing signs of senility came out with the simple but inspiring phrase that prompted this debut novel: “My friend is missing.” The critics loved it. I loved it. Healey didn’t want it to be too bleak portraying a vulnerable octogenarian showing signs of dementia, trapped in a life of boredom and tedium: watching or attempting to watch tv, attempting to read when the words don’t make sense, waiting endlessly for the carer or the daughter. What a life! Nine publishers fought over its publication and the tv rights have already been sold. Suggestions regarding Judy Dench or Maggie Smith playing Maud are strong possibilities. Watch this space! Maud is 82, eccentric with an obsession for collecting anything and everything. She has done this since being a child but when it continues into old age it is infuriating for her daughter Helen. Most of it is rubbish after all. “Sufferers often seek refuge in a childhood version of themselves.” (Healey) Dementia transforms a previously safe and recognisable world into one that is frightening and strange and the author captures this remarkably well. So it is appropriate to run two timelines, one that takes us back to post-war (1946) when Maud was a 15 year old and then move to present date. The plot flits backwards and forwards and significantly the author uses various means to connect both timelines, a character or a memory of an event. Very clever. The potential bleakness is understanding the degeneration of Maud’s mind, her inability to sometimes recognise her daughter or her granddaughter, Katy. Imagine losing your way going to the corner shop, with pockets full of lists, her “paper memory,” many meaningless and taking home umpteen tins of peaches, the same every day. Or what about twelve calls to the doctor telling him you are ill in a short space of time then when he arrives telling him you are fighting fit? Also imagine that your one and only friend Elizabeth just disappears and in her muddled mind, Maud suspects that Peter, Elizabeth’s son must

be responsible for getting rid of her. She never trusted him, she thought he was deliberately starving his mother. Maud makes several unsuccessful attempts to visit her home, reports the disappearance to the police on four separate occasions to their amusement and her agitation then puts an ad in the local Echo. Phoning Peter during the night and forgetting why she was phoning him caused him to swear and complain. Poor Helen was always having to apologise. Carla, one of the carers didn’t help either. She relishes feeding Maud with the latest gossip particularly the gory bits which results in a distortion of Elizabeth’s disappearance: “Elizabeth locked in room-crack addicts in house. Bound and tortured in basement.” Ironically, Maud knows that her friend doesn’t have a basement so something isn’t quite right. So much for her paper memory. The whodunnit part of the story is the major one to follow and it will keep you riveted. It is woven into the Elizabeth is missing plot meticulously and concerns half-forgotten memories which hold the key to a dark secret from the distant past, an unsolved mystery. “I found it too late, far too late. Now I’ll never find her. She’ll always be missing and I’ll always be looking for her. I can’t bear it.” It is the discovery of the remains of a compact belonging to her sister and found in the garden of her octogenarian friend Elizabeth. “The mildewed mirror is like a window on a faded world, like a porthole looking out under the ocean. It makes {Maud} squirm with memories.” Sukey was Maud’s sister, seven years her senior and sophisticated. She loved dressing up and going dancing. Maud idolised her and they had a close relationship. Sukey married Frank who was a dodgy character and Maud’s lodger, Douglas disliked him intensely. He saw Frank as being a jealous man with a foul temper. Douglas had a soft spot for Sukey and he was always at Sukey’s house particularly when Frank was away working. Maud suspected they were having an affair which he denied. An agitated Sukey came to visit Maud and family for www.carolnaylor.blogspot.com www.carolesleynaylor.wordpress.com - naylorcl@hotmail.es
tea as was the weekly custom and she wanted to sleep there rather than return home. She then abruptly decided to return home and disappeared into thin air. This was 1946. Naturally her family was distraught and Pa blamed Frank. He thought she had been kidnapped or killed although he searched the town for her and even travelled to London scouring the streets in vain. The police had to deal with lots of cases of men and women disappearing so Sukey’s disappearance became unremarkable: “People are being reported missing left, right and centre. The men can’t get used to being back on Civvy Street, or the women can’t get used to having their husbands home again, and so they’re off.” A suitcase full of her clothes turns up but no Sukey. Two further devices are used to create mystery. One is the mad woman with a dark but tragic past who seems to stalk Sukey and Maud in a menacing way. On the night of Sukey’s disappearance the mad woman scared the living daylights out of her and neighbours heard her screaming. Maud is petrified when she chases after her on many occasions. She has been known to grab Maud and hit her with an umbrella. What does she know about Sukey’s disappearance? What is significant about her digging up of marrows? Is there a connection? If so, what is it? The second device is the narrative thread concerned with the Grosvenor Hotel murderer, Kenneth Lloyd Holmes due to hang for the murder of two women. In Maud’s demented mind perhaps Sukey was his third victim? “I had to know if he killed my sister.” So she writes to him before his execution. Maud’s mother and father died not knowing what happened to their daughter. “I don’t want to die like that,” admitted Maud. By the end of the novel past and present become fused with memories muddled. Earlier lucid thoughts change shape, lost in her state of dementia with this unsolved mystery. Well-written but unsettling. Publisher: Puffin.

San Miguel Golf Society at La Finca May 27th
Thirty-nine members and a guest attended SMGS’s monthly visit to La Finca to play a stableford competition. The course had recently been subjected to hollow tining of the greens and scarifying of the fairways and clearly needed more time to recover. However, such complications didn’t impede some players from posting superb scores, most noteworthy Darren Hancock, Mick Cook, Robin Eastman and Noel Bannon, with the former two worthy of special mention, Mick shooting a gross 73 and Darren a best score of the day (and possibly the year
Gold Category: 4th Ivan Hanak (36), 3rd Robin Eastman, 2nd Mick Cook with a fantastic 41 points, and 1st, with an even more magnificent 43 points, Darren Hancock. Nearest the pins on the par 3’s (open to all) went to Bjorn Pettersson (3), Darren Hancock (6), Alan MacDonald (13) and Ellen Drakesmith (16). Nearest the pins in 3 on holes 7 (Gold), 11 (Silver) and 12 (Bronze) were won by Mick Cook, Ken Flaherty and Norman McBride respectively.
so far) gross 71, both playing off a handicap of 6. Spectacular stuff!! One singles match and one doubles match were held in the annual SMGS match play competitions, with Mike Jordan overcoming Alan MacDonald 4 and 2 in the former, so moving in to the semi-finals of the competition, and Ken Flaherty and Phil de Lacy beating husband and wife team John and Ellen Drakesmith 3 and 2 in the latter. Prior to today’s round SMGS handed over 250 euros to Stuart Rennie, , as its contribution to funds collected for cancer research on behalf of the Linda Rennie Memorial Trophy, which took place on May 17th. This brings SMGS’s contribution to both local and international charities in the last 2 years to some 4,000 euros, with donations to worthy causes having become an integral part of what our society is about and an indication of our member’s generosity. Returning to the golf, the day’s stableford competition results, by category and in reverse order, were the following: Bronze Category: 4th Brian Mulligan (33 on CB), 3rd Ellen Drakesmith (33 on CB), 2nd John Trehy (33 on CB), and 1st, recently making winning something of a habit, Chris Hamblett with 36 points. Silver Category: 4th Glen Rapley (34), 3rd Mike Jordan (35), 2nd Ken Flaherty (37) and 1st, with a superb score and the second best of the day, Noel Bannon with 42 points.
The Abacus was won by Jenny Staines. Our thanks go to the staff at La Finca golf course for their contribution to an enjoyable day. Keep up to date with all SMGS matters by logging on to our website www.smgs.org or simply give Barry Roehrig a call on 966 731 033 to find out more about the society and its weekly golf get-togethers. Next week we will be at Villamartin. Barca Win Copa Del Rey
Lionel Messi scored an outrageous solo goal as La Liga champions Barcelona beat Athletic Bilbao to win the Copa del Rey and edge closer to the treble. The four-time world player of the year lit up the Nou Camp when he evaded numerous challenges on the right wing and then surged into the area before firing home a firm, low shot. N e y m a r tapped in his 38th goal this campaign, before Messi scored his 58th with the outside of his boot. Inaki Williams headed in late on. That effort in the 79th minute was a small blip in an otherwise superb performance by Luis Enrique’s side at their home, the Nou Camp. A repeat display against Juventus in next week’s Champions League final will almost certainly see them complete their second ever continental treble, having become the first La Liga side to do so in 2009. On Saturday there were many fantastic moments of Barca interplay, but the highlight of the match, and maybe the Spanish season, involved just one player - Messi. The 27-year-old Argentina forward started on the right and surrounded by Athletic players in the lead up to the opening goal, but managed to squeeze through a gap, sprint into the box, shift the ball past one more defender before striking a shot low past goalkeeper Iago Herrerin.
“Leo is spectacular, he is a star,” said Neymar. “For me he is the best in the world and it is an honour to be part of this team with players of such quality.” If that was an individual goal of the highest standard, t h e n Neymar’s was a team goal of equal quality. Q u i c k p a s s i n g around the area between Messi and Ivan Rakitic ended with Luis Suarez squaring the ball to Neymar to slot in. It was another goal for the Brazilian in what has been a superb second season at Barcelona. Messi scored his second of the night and his 58th this season with a stunning close-range finish after the break which meant he, Suarez and Neymar have now scored 120 goals in all competitions for the Catalan club this campaign. Barca took a more relaxed approach in the last 15 minutes, and Athletic 23-time winners of the competition - made the most of their opportunity when Williams headed in from six yards out. Xavi came on as a late substitute in his final appearance for Barcelona at the Nou Camp. And the Spaniard, who will be ending a 17-year association, almost scored a fourth when his brilliant free-kick struck the post. Bbc.com

Another good turn out at Saurines on Thursday, this being the first Presidents Trophy game of the season. Nick Brooks reigning champion for the last three years was away, so this gave us a chance to get a good start. Few problems on the course were reported regarding the greens but everything else was looking good. Jim Fegan was in good form taking two of the holes in the two’s competition and winning the day with 35 pt’s playing off a handicap of 12. Not quite a good as Marie who won last week with 39 pt’s on count back. Bit of a family competition going on here. We played full handicap stableford, four ntp’s and usual two’s pot. Results were pins. No 5 no return, No 9 Chris Blown, No 10 Mike Sephton No 18 Ollie Teahan. The Two’s pot was won by Jim Fegan, ( second week on the trot ), Bob Wright won the raffle. COSTA COBRAS RFC JUNIORS DO THE CLUB PROUD
This last weekend Costa Cobras RFC were invited by Squalos to train with their juniors and have a few games as well. The players really put on a great performance and did the club proud, and looking forward to repeating it all over again soon. This is followed by the 7th Murcia 7’s tournament on Saturday 6 June. We had four short games of 7 minutes each playing 5-a-side, and the players put all of their hard work from training into practice, and against more experienced players held their own comfortably. In the first game Cobras ran out winners 5-3 with Kyle grabbing 3 tries and Jaime, with some silky footwork, getting two tries. In the second game it was closer with both teams putting in try saving tackles, but Cobras coming out on top 5-4 with again Kyle and Jaime getting two tries a piece. The final two games began to tell on the lads as Squalos had fresh legs the third game was 4-4 with Kyle and Dylan getting two a piece. The final game the players ran out of steam and went down 7-3 with Kyle and Jaime getting the tries again, but considering they all played all of the games, and this was their first time they had played contact they did brilliantly. On top of that they have only been playing for 2-3 months, just goes to show the progress they have made. The overall score over the four games meant that they lost by just one try. Squalos then put on a great third half for the kids and showed them the true spirit of rugby and did them proud. A huge thank you must go out to them for everything they did for the Cobras, as
well as the parents who supported the young Cobras. This coming weekend is another big weekend with the Murcia 7’s again with their seventh annual tournament with teams from Squalos. CURM, Albacete, La Vila, Torrevieja, Penyagolosa, Lorca, Hispanos, Tarafa and Elche, so looking forward to some excellent rugby again. You can also see also see quite a few of these teams in the Formentera del Segura 7’s on 27 June so get down and support this great event. Training takes place on Monday and Wednesday from 18.00-19.30 for the juniors, while the seniors will be training from 20.00-21.30 at Daya Vieja sports ground. All ages, gender and nationalities are welcome, from beginners to experienced players, the more the merrier, as we are based on the true traditional ethics of the sport. So come along and join the newest rugby team on the Costa Blanca, also team bonding after training in the nearest bar for a drink and chat, just how rugby should be. So get those boots out and come on down to Daya Vieja sports ground and join in the rugby revolution of 2015, with the Rugby World Cup to look forward to as well, get into this great sport. TMGS at Las PInaillas (Albacete)
It’s never easy to get up at 6,30in the morning to play a round of golf! lo and behold for one member it proved to be just a little too early, in fact, the Captain and handicap secretary were in danger of missing out on this fantastic venue after having missed the bus at Playa Flamenca, they drove to the second pick-up point at Ciudad Quesada. A journey of a little more than 2 hours is well worth it when you arrive at this jewel of a course known as Las Pinaillas. This is an annual event, “the Pinaillas Cup” is sponsored by founder member John Whitaker and his wife Marg. The course is always found to be in great condition and the greens can be very tricky to read. After a wonderful day’s golf we enjoyed a superb menu del dia in the clubhouse. Can you believe that all of this for just €55 per person! Normally the results here are not that high ( due to the tricky green) however 2 players managed to break par easily, in the visitors category 29 points was good enough for Lennart Holmberg to take 2nd place on lower handicap, this was far short of 1st placed T. SKymoen’s 38 points. Playing for the main trophy, there were several players around the 30points mark, but to take 3rd place
with 31points was Sandra Twentyman, just 1point ahead came Glen Gooch, but this came nowhere near the massive 40points scored by Chris Gray, Chris has been in a rich vein of form lately and has graciously decided to return to Erland for a while so that someone else has a chance. The N.T.P.’s were won by; hole 3 John Hiller, hole7 Alan Rixson,hole12 Kjell Johansson and hole 17 Joe Dean. After removing all of the winner’s cards a draw was made for a free green fee and 4 very good bottles of wine donated by a local bodega. Our next competition is on the 4th of June at Las Colinas, so if you fancy a game with a friendly Society please visit our website www.tmgs.org or follow us via our facebook page www.facebook. com/tmgsgolf or you can simply send us a tweet, twitter.com/TMGSGOLF, or you can still use that old method called a telephone, call 661 524 101.

Quesada Golf Society
Last Wednesday the Society traveled south inland from the Mar Manor to play Roda. The course was in very good condition and the weather perfect for golf. 20 players competed in an Individual Stableford competition. Roy Kavanagh is getting a reputation of being a dangerous driver. Not with his Big Bertha but with a buggy. This time he nearly ran his playing partner Ian Fogerty down braking sharply inches away from him. There were some good scores on the day and some indifferent ones. The winner on the day with 33 points was the very consistent David McSweeney and he has to be with a handicap of 8. In second place was West countryman Ron Perkins with 31 points who just pipped John “Robin Hood” King on C/B. In 4th place was Derbyshire lad Darryll Wright. The nearest the Pin winners were, Brian Smith, Ian Fogerty, John King, Charlie Wallace, and ”smokin” Tony Patterson.
The 2´s pot was not won again with over 100€. carried forward to the next game. After the game the members returned to the society base, the Quesada Country Club for a bit of banter and the prize giving over a drink or two and a tasty buffet kindly laid on. The next game is at Lo Romero on Wednesday 10 June. Anyone in the Quesada area looking to join a very friendly golf society and play golf once a fortnight at a wide variety of courses at very reasonable cost, should contact the Membership Secretary Les Pancott on 966 716 723.
