A group of Chinese investors has bought the abandoned airport at Ciudad Real for €10,000 after submitting the only bid for the facility at a court bankruptcy auction.

On Friday, Tzaneen International was awarded the land and buildings, including the runway, hangars and control tower at Ciudad Real Central Airport in Castilla-La Mancha – the first major airport to be built in Spain with private investment.

The business of animal rescue often attracts people who are willing to sacrifice a normal lifestyle for their passion. Meet Albox’s own Marianne Bailey at 62 years young she should be enjoying her retirement instead she has chosen to devote her life to helping Spain’s homeless and unwanted dogs. Maz’s Canine Rescue based in La Molata, near Almanzora provides a second chance for dogs in a safe environment while waiting for adoption or foster. Crippling costs such as veterinary charges, dog food and water costs make the financial reality of running a rescue centre like his very challenging but with literally hundreds of healthy dogs at risk of being killed every day here in Spain, centers like this are imperative in order to make a difference to these dogs lives.

Surfer Mick Fanning escapes shark attack in South Africa

An Australian surfer has made an incredible escape after encountering two sharks during a major competition in South Africa.

Often in the press young people don’t always get the most positive news coverage that’s why I am delighted to talk about some of Albox’s own teenagers Olivia Anastasia, Mason Burnside, Jade Leanne, Jordan Barnes, Ezra Marshall, Louie Stevens and Michael Maydew. On a night out they found a little dog at the side of the road in major distress, it’s back legs had been tied as it had been weighted down someone had obviously tried to drown him and it was literally covered in ticks, it was so bad it actually looked bubble wrap.

It was clear the dog was in agony and these young persons took immediate

action phoning local animal charities and waiting by the poor little thing they named Gary side until help arrived. Sadly he did not make it but through their intervention Gary did not die in pain, as the vet sedated and then relived him of his agony. It was clearly a traumatizing experience and many tears were shed but they did the right thing to seek help.

In addition to this and this profound experience they have even been helping out a rescue centre this week and hope to continue to do so. Well done you guys proving that there is good in most people young and old.

Under-16s no longer allowed to marry in spain

Previous legislation permitted 14-yearolds to wed on a case-by-case basis Youths under 16 years of age will no longer be allowed to marry in Spain.

The Voluntary Jurisdiction Law, which goes into effect on July 23, raises the minimum legal marriage age and eliminates the possibility of a judge allowing 14-year-olds to wed on a case-by-case basis, as the previous legislation permitted.

Under the new rules, only emancipated over-16s will be allowed to marry.

Lightning starts 13 forest fires in Castellón and Valencia

POLICE in Alicante want injunctions imposed on pickpockets who reoffend, saying they are tarnishing the coastal city's image as a world-renowned tourism destination.

They also want to see supermarkets and department stores bring private prosecutions against bag-snatchers.

Pickpockets who have committed offences more than once should be banned from living in the city, say the judicial police.

LIGHTNING strikes inland have caused 12 forest fires in the province of Castellón and another in Valencia.

Meetings with the provincial prosecution service and with chairman of the court for the province of Alicante, Vicente Magro, this week raised the thorny subject of serial bag-snatchers and scams such as asking random customers in shops to reach for items off high shelves and pinching their wallets whilst they were distracted.

Head prosecutor Jorge Rabasa says in Alicante city alone, up to 30 pickpocketing incidents a day are reported.

Spain's new Penal Code means judges are obliged to send details of any crime to a central court register held by the ministry of justice so that the number of offences an individual commits can be tracked.

On the third pickpocketing attempt, this will normally mean a prison sentence of between one and three years, but for a first sentence the accused does not have to serve a custodial term if this is less than two years.

Where bag-snatchers continue on the loose as a result, Magro, Rabasa and the city police believe the offender should be given an injunction preventing him or her from approaching their area of criminal operation or other parts of the city where they could strike.

If the extent of the crime is more serious, the thief should be served with an injunction banning him or her from living in the city altogether.

This could be the case where a known thief is seen entering a shop or retail park he or she had been banned from going near by the court, even if the person had no intention of committing a robbery.

If Alicante goes ahead and is able to impose injunctions and order pickpockets to move to another area, it is likely other provinces, especially their capital cities, will follow suit. http://www.thinkspain.com/

Strictly Come Dancing is admirable, John Whittingdale says

Bill Cosby reportedly paid women to keep affairs secret Bill Cosby reportedly said in sworn testimony a decade ago he had paid women after sex to keep the affairs from his wife and suggested he was skilled at understanding nonverbal clues for sexual consent and called an accuser a liar.

The New York Times reported the revelations Saturday after obtaining a copy of a transcript from a deposition Cosby gave in lawsuit filed by a former employee of Temple University who alleges he drugged and molester her.

The Associated Press obtained excerpts from a deposition last month that revealed Cosby admitted he procured Quaaludes with the intent of giving them to young women he wanted to have sex with.

Cosby told lawyers for Andrea Constand, who worked at Temple and brought the suit, that he was a “pretty decent reader of people and their emotions in these romantic sexual things,” according to the transcript obtained by the Times.

Cosby said he offered to pay for Constand’s education and paid another woman who he had met in 1976. He said he funneled money to one of the women he had sex with through his agent so his wife wouldn’t find out.

The comedian said he figured his wife would have found out eventually that he was helping her with furthering her education, though Constand never sought any money from him.

However, Cosby said, “My wife would not know it was because Andrea and I had sex,” according to the newspaper.

The case was settled on confidential terms.

Cosby has continually denied accusations made by dozens of women who claim he sexually assaulted

them. He has never been charged with a crime, but the accusations have shredded his image of a good-guy, fatherly figure.

At points during the deposition, Cosby also described his sexual encounters with the women in detail.

The deposition also paints Cosby as emotionally charming, but he also spoke about disregarding relationships to pursue other women.

He suggested he was skilled at understanding women and nonverbal cues signaling sexual consent.

Cosby said he sparked a relationship with Costand in the early 200s and invited her to his house and had conversations about her family and plans for future education.

The relationship between the two continued for several years until Costrand claims he drugged and molested her in his Pennsylvania home.

Bruce Castor, the suburban Pennsylvania prosecutor who declined to bring charges in the Constand case a decade ago, told the AP earlier this month that if he is elected again he would review the unsealed court documents to see if Cosby committed perjury. h t t p : // www.foxnews. com/

Strictly Come Dancing is an “admirable” example of where the BBC took a risk on a show that was not guaranteed to be a hit, the culture secretary has said.

John Whittingdale was speaking on BBC One’s The Andrew Marr Show after launching a debate on what types of programmes the BBC should make.

Of Strictly, he said: “The BBC took a risk. It paid off well and it has achieved a mass audience.

“And that seems to me admirable if you can do all those things.”

The government published a Green Paper on the future of the BBC on Thursday, including the question of whether the corporation should be “chasing ratings” or delivering “distinctive, quality” programmes that are unavailable on other channels.

That has led to some suggestions that the BBC could stop showing Saturday night light entertainment programmes. Asked about the difference between Strictly and the BBC’s long-running Generation Game, Mr Whittingdale said: “Saturday night has always been a time when families sit around the television and we traditionally have had light entertainment shows.

“In many ways, Strictly Come Dancing is the successor to The Generation Game.

“But Strictly was perhaps, at first sight of the commissioning editor, not necessarily a show which was going to be as successful as it has proved to be.

“So I think the BBC took a risk. It paid off well and it has achieved a mass audience. And that seems to me admirable if you can do all those things.

“But, of course, in the age when you and I were sitting watching The Generation Game, the amount of choice available was extremely limited.

“At that time there were probably only about three channels, whereas now you’ve got 50, 60,

70 to choose from.” ‘Surprised’ at response Before becoming culture secretary, Mr Whittingdale had told the Guardian newspaper that it was “debatable” whether there was a public service argument for the BBC making Strictly.

The show should certainly not compete for viewers with X Factor on ITV, he told the paper.

On Sunday, Mr Whittingdale told Andrew Marr he was a “huge admirer” of the BBC. But he said he was “a little surprised that the BBC expressed such disappointment at the Green Paper”.

He said the document was “just a series of questions with no answers as yet decided”.

Resignation call The Green Paper comes as the government prepares to negotiate with the BBC over the terms of the corporation’s next royal charter, which will come into force at the start of 2017.

But some of the signatories have revealed that they were asked to sign by BBC executives.

However the BBC said its guidelines did allow it to lobby on matters of broadcasting policy. In his interview on Sunday, Mr Whittingdale did not refer to the row but said he “fully agreed with” most of the letter’s contents.

He added: “I admire the BBC. The last thing I want to do is undermine the BBC.”

Using gelatin to make clothes isn’t all that weird, either. The textile industry experimented with using vegetable and food by-products as far back as a century ago, until the petroleumbased industry took over.

Today, as we look for greener and less biologically harmful ways to live, scientists—and designers—are looking for more natural sources for what we wear. It might sound strange now, but you probably won’t give a second thought to wearing JELL-O socks, bamboo dresses, or sour milk shirts in the future.

Sunlight What’s one thing that’s so abundant in your house you probably don’t even think about it? Sunlight! It’s too bad there’s no way to bottle that stuff.

Scientists thought so, too. So they came up with a way to bottle sunlight.

Use of solar power is on the rise, with about half a million solar power systems installed in the US, a number which is expected to keep increasing as installation becomes more affordable. Solar arrays gather and store solar power, but they’re still limited due to the nation’s dependency on liquid fuels.

Science has found a way to mimic photosynthesis. The next hurdle is to surpass the 1 percent efficiency that plants have.

Eventually, we may be filling up our cars with liquid fuel made with the power of the Sun. Tampons Towns and cities generally have two kinds of sewage systems. One collects waste from homes and funnels it into sewage facilities, while the other collects rainwater and drains it into streams or rivers. Unfortunately, rainwater drainage sometimes gets contaminated by the sewage system, which in turn contaminates the fresh water sources into which it drains.

That’s where tampons come in. Tampons are made of absorbent, untreated cotton. When this material comes into contact with the chemicals in toilet paper, laundry detergent, shampoo, or many of the other chemicals you’d find in a sewage system, it absorbs the chemicals. Even a tiny bit of exposure makes the tampon glow under UV light for up to 30 days afterward.

This makes tampons the perfect tool for finding where the water is contaminated. Researchers start at the end—the polluted stream or waterway—and work their way backward using the tampons until they find the contamination’s point of origin.

Unlike other methods for finding contamination, tampons are cheap, easy to find practically anywhere, and generally don’t need any special training to operate.

Potato Ever made a battery out of a potato? Scientists have, and it’s surprisingly effective. A battery powered by potatoes and LEDs can light up a room for over a month.

Part of the job of a scientist is to constantly question assumptions, look at things from different angles, and find new uses for old things. The result is the use of household objects in some creative ways.

to being the fifth most important crop in the world. They might also be the answer to finding a natural power source that isn’t costly, doesn’t require much special equipment, and lasts a while.

Researchers found that boiling a potato for just eight minutes then cutting it up into chunks made the potato an effective “salt bridge,” a space through which electron currents can move. A kit for making a DIY potato battery includes things you might remember from your high school science class: two alligator clips and two electrodes. The parts are small, easy to replace, and inexpensive. All you have to do is provide the boiled potato.

Pen Ink While you’ve been doodling with a pen, scientists have been using that same pen to store energy.

Most pen ink is made from oil-based dye, designed to flow well, dry fast, and not smear. Regular pen ink also makes supercapacitors more powerful.

A capacitor stores energy as a static charge. Imagine rubbing your feet on a carpet then touching something. You’re storing energy then releasing it through your finger. Supercapacitors are used in any machines that need to store large amounts of energy, like wind turbines and hybrid electric cars.

When a research team from China went in search of ways to increase the efficiency of supercapacitors, they didn’t have to look beyond their own homes. Regular pen ink makes a great coating for supercapacitors.

The team discovered that a supercapacitor coated in pen ink made a very thin outer layer that was bendy and could hold up to 10 times more charge than other capacitors. Malleable supercapacitors can lead to energy-filled cloth, which can then lead to wearable electronics. Just imagine, your next iPhone might come with an iShirt.

Kitty Litter In February 2014, alarms rang out at a nuclear waste facility in New Mexico. A 55-gallon container of radioactive waste had burst open, releasing radioactivity into the air. It took a few months of investigation to uncover the culprit behind the accident: Someone had bought the wrong kind of kitty litter.

The clay and absorbent properties make kitty litter into a great stabilizer. Mixing it in a tank of nuclear waste prevents the waste from reacting with the environment. At some point, the nuclear waste facility decided to be a little greener and started using organic kitty litter.

Unlike regular kitty litter, organic brands use vegetable and plant fibers, materials that are also excellent fuel. About 500 gallons of nuclear waste were contaminated with this brand, turning them into volatile time bombs. Luckily, many of the “bad” batches were stored underground, while the others were reinforced with double containers.

Why isn’t that on the label of kitty litter? “Strong enough for your cat, strong enough for nuclear waste.”

Plastic Bags Plastic bags are notoriously bad for the environment.

They are made from petroleum, which you may recognize as that stuff the world is running low on. They are difficult and hazardous to manufacture and take between 10 and 20 years to decompose. When the bags get into the environment, animals can choke and suffocate on them. In some parts of the world’s oceans, there are six times more plastic bags than plankton.

In an effort to reduce the strain of plastic bags on the world, some states and countries have started charging for choosing

plastic bags at the store.

What can we do with all the plastic bags clogging up our landfills? Some researchers discovered that the bags can be converted into some pretty useful things.

This is great news for the environment and landfills everywhere because it gives plastic bags a potential use, and the world’s natural resources won’t go completely to waste.

Catnip If you have a cat, you probably have a bunch of dried-out, browning catnip lying around your house somewhere. Catnip is a member of the mint family, but it’s better known for making cats go on harmless but intense acid trips. Kitties take one whiff of the plant, and it sends them into a euphoric frenzy, rubbing on everything, rolling on the ground, and generally acting incredibly high.

That is, if your cat is responsive to the plant. Only about half of cats react to catnip for some genetic reason that no one understands. Whatever the scientific reason, either catnip turns your cat into the happiest feline in the world for about 10 minutes, or it gets a sniff and a “meh.”

Cats aren’t the only creatures that go crazy for the mint leaves of catnip. Bugs are sensitive to the oil in catnip, too.

But instead of loving it, insects hate the stuff. Lab tests from 2001 show that catnip is 10 times more effective at repelling mosquitoes than DEET, and a study from 2010 found that it has the same effect on bloodsucking flies that attack livestock.

According to entomologist Chris Peterson, no one understands why catnip makes such a good insect repellent.

Maybe the bugs can’t stand the smell, or maybe catnip acts as an irritant to them.

Sadly, it might be a while before we see ads for an insect repellent that attracts cats the way Axe cologne supposedly attracts swarming women. Follow-up studies showed that the oil in catnip was not quite as effective as DEET when used on skin. Despite this, many people opt to use catnip oil as insect repellent because it’s nontoxic and 100 percent natural.

For some reason, people don’t like applying chemicals to their exposed skin.

Baby Powder Baby powder was originally used to prevent diaper rash. But it’s no longer recommended by doctors because the powder is easy to inhale and can damage a baby’s delicate lungs. Some women use baby powder between their thighs to keep them from chafing, although studies have shown that this practice may increase the chance of ovarian cancer.

That leaves very little use for the product. Unless you’re the scientist who uses it to cause volcanic eruptions.

Benjamin Andrews studies the destructive power of volcanoes. He’s been close enough to eruptions that it felt like he was getting roasted. With volcanoes killing nearly 900 people per year, Andrews is dedicated to understanding volcanoes better in order to reduce these numbers.

To study the blasts, Andrews has built a volcanology simulator, another way of saying that he makes miniature volcanoes erupt in his lab. Andrews buys big tubs of talc powder, the main ingredient in baby powder, to study the patterns made by debris under different circumstances.

The powder is light, soft, and easy to see under laser light.

This makes it perfect for studying volcanic eruptions, even if the result looks like a trippy laser light show with the fog machine cranked up full blast.

Glitter Glitter has received a bad name in recent years. It’s so annoying to clean up that some mean-spirited companies have sprouted up to let you send “glitter bombs” to your enemies.

In December 2014, glitter found an unlikely home where it could be appreciated: NASA. NASA is in the process of building a giant telescope, the James Webb Space Telescope, which is meant to replace the Hubble Space Telescope in 2018. The James Webb is big in every sense of the word, costing $8 billion to build and weighing around seven tons (if you count the spacecraft that holds it).

According to NASA, that’s too big and too expensive.

The space organization has been looking for alternatives for future telescopes. For one thing, they want to reduce the size of the 400-kilogram (800 lb) mirror necessary for such a powerful telescope.

Instead of using a solid mirror, NASA engineers came up with the Orbiting Rainbow, which releases a cloud of reflective, glitter-like particles. With a cost and weight that’s a fraction of the standard mirror, the particles can be used as a floatingcloud mirror to let NASA glimpse faraway stars and exoplanets.

Roquetas de Mar organizes multitude of cultural activities every year. The City Council destines great amount of resources to the promotion of the culture and has developed a formidable work. Throughout the year, plays and concerts take place in Theatre-Auditorium of Roquetas de Mar. Recently the new Audience of the School of Music of Aguadulce has been inaugurated.

Magnificent exhibitions of all types are celebrated in the renewed exhibition halls of the zone of the Port.

The cinema occupies a prominent place in Roquetas de Mar, with the Yelmo Cineplex Cinema, holding 13 halls, specially dedicated to the projection of original versions. In addition, in the nucleus of Aguadulce, the cinematographic supply is very ample, with the Chaplin Cinemas and at summer time, we recommend the outdoors double programs of the outside cinemas, - Terraces of Aguadulce. In addition, our municipality has a Bullring, with a gauging of 8,000 people. This bullring plaza is also used as concert hall.

The Castle of Santa Ana, with its new design was inaugurated in May of 2003. By its own merits, the castle has become a dynamic element to the cultural life of Roquetas de Mar, having lodged exhibitions of Photography and painting, holding itself its own conference hall. The Castle is really a centre of the culture of great beauty, located within the framework of the Port, that along with the Audience and the Lighthouse, forms a cultural triangle in this modern area. We recommend to visit the area at dusk when it is particularly pleasant to take a walk and to relax at dusk next to the sea.

The Lighthouse is another one of the emblems of Roquetas de Mar, its long history having been recovered thanks to a subvention of the European Union. At the moment it is an exhibition hall, throughout the year, and every fortnight it lodges painting exhibitions, photographs, and others.

The amphitheatre of Roquetas de Mar counts on a gauging of 700 people, and it is a charismatic place that welcomes multitude of spectacles, like the recognized On street foot. It emphasizes the beauty of the surroundings, being a unique site to enjoy the outdoor activities, mainly in the summer time.

Mind Healing Mindfulness can let you down

Suggesting that mindfulness is the answer to all distress and a standalone cure has left many patients disappointed. But used as a starting point, it can lead to better understanding of the problem Mindfulness is everywhere, and we hear that it can sort out just about anything—anxiety, depression, insomnia, even heart disease. Why then do a growing number of my patients, having tried mindfulness, tell me how disappointed they feel?

Why do I hear comments like this: 'I tried mindfulness, but I just can’t fit it into my schedule.

'I took a mindfulness course, but I still have all the same problems.’

The fault, I’m afraid, lies with us, with therapists. When a new and promising technique is introduced, we tend to get over-excited about what it can offer and we start promising too much. We also have a tendency to package up the technique, to create one set of easy instructions so anyone can do it. That, I’m afraid, is what’s happening with mindfulness. By suggesting that this technique is the answer to all distress, we set it up to disappoint. And by suggesting there’s only one 'right’ way to do it, we’re in danger of sabotaging its true value.

Mindfulness should not be seen as a stand-alone cure for mental anguish. It merely acts as the starting point for sorting out whatever is troubling you. When patients come to me with their worries and problems, the first step we always take is to become aware of exactly what we’re dealing with. What does that bad habit, those self-critical thoughts, look like precisely? Mindfulness can show us. It can also take us further. When you’re mindful, you

become aware of what triggers your habits and thoughts. You also start to notice how other people react in those same situations, thus offering you choices. Learning to be mindful opens your eyes and your mind.

It’s not in itself the solution to your problems, but it is the necessary first step.

J u s t in case you are inclined to celebrate, I think that I should give you plenty of warning ahead of the big day on September 26. It was on that day, 60 years ago, that Birdseye Fish Fingers first went on sale in the UK. Well okay, you may not be able to remember what you were doing that day, it may not have had the impact of other seismic world events, such as the airing of the first Captain Pugwash episode, or Sandie Shaw winning the Eurovision Song Contest, but it’s an anniversary of sorts and it was lunch-changing for many a young child!

But that got me thinking about the importance of those special days we all enjoy celebrating with family and friends. With that in mind, here are some anniversaries you may not have celebrated, but which are perhaps deserving of your consideration.

The first one is a good one to remember. “I Forgot Day” was brought about to help the hundreds, if not thousands, of people who realise, much too late, that they forgot something important. If that’s you, then July 2 is the day to ring in your calendar. It is

National Nude Day. You just knew that there would have to be one of those didn’t you? Curiously enough, that same day is also scheduled for “National Pandemonium Day”. On that day all sorts of unexpected things are likely to occur. I did wonder if the two are connected.

I suppose that, as July is also earmarked as “Anti Boredom Month”, then a little naked pandemonium might just be no bad thing!

Spain chosen as site of planet’s largest gamma ray telescope

San Roque Observatory in the Canary Islands wins vote to host Cherenkov Telescope Array The largest gamma ray telescope in the world is to be located in the Canary Islands. The 14 countries involved in the Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA) have decided on the island of La Palma, which sits on the western edge of the Spanish archipelago, some 250 kilometers off the coast of Morocco.

“We have won,” said Rafael Rebolo, director of the Canaries Astrophysics Institute (IAC) on July 16 from Berlin, where the voting took place. “We are very happy because this is a strategic European installation and the fact that it is coming to Spain is an extraordinary scientific opportunity,” he added.

A similar observatory in the southern hemisphere will complete the project, estimated at a cost of €200 million, and which aims to be ready by 2020. The northern observatory will cost around €90 million, says the CTA. Spain’s government has promised to provide €40 million, most of which will come from EU funds for regional development.

The CTA captures gamma ray energy, the most powerful in the universe. Until now, such telescopes have only been able to map 10 percent of the sky along this wavelength.

The CTA will offer 10 times more precision than current instruments, and aims to investigate the origin of cosmic rays, the composition of dark matter, and some of the most violent objects in the universe, such as black holes.

“The Canary Islands, which provide an extraordinary sky for observation, along with first-class infrastructure, are a world power in astronomy, and will see their position boosted with this new network of telescopes,” says Carmen Vela, Secretary of State for the Economy Ministry’s Research & Development &

Innovation department in a press note.

A similar observatory in the southern hemisphere will complete the project, estimated at a cost of €200 million El Roque will be the location of some 20 telescopes of different sizes. Whether you are in Andulucia , Las Vegas , Cairo , Phoenix or Rome , the following tips will keep you in shape for sightseeing. And remember: think cool!

How to deal with the Andalusian heat like a pro:

Dress adequately . At over 90ºF, jeans, thick t-shirts and closed shoes become uncomfortable. Try to bring loose, light, cotton or linen clothing.

Good walking sandals are ideal, or summer shoes with thin, low-cut socks.

Start early . Have a good breakfast and get your sightseeing in from 9am and about 1pm--do your walking itineraries earlier (especially in more open areas), and leave the Mosque and museums for later.

Taxi! If you have been exploring a long way from where you want to finish at mid-day, and you aren't looking forward to a long walk back when shade is getting scarce, treat yourself to an air-conditioned taxi to squeeze more out of your daylight sightseeing hours.

Don't dehydrate . Carry a bottle of water with you and drink regularly .

Locals insist on the danger of drinking ice-cold liquids when you're hot.

Keep to the shade . Stay out of the direct sun whenever possible while sightseeing. Do like the locals and take advantage of the narrow, twisty streets and walk on the shady side. You may even want to get a hotel in the Sierra and take a taxi to the city center for sightseeing. In the evening, many people drive up to the sierra neighborhood to dine or have a drink.

Go for an evening promenade . Traditionally, after 8pm is the time for socializing by taking a stroll in circles around the village squares . Things have changed in the past 100 years, but once it cools off, it's time to get out and stretch your legs. People are out until 2am taking the air. A good place to take walks is the RENFE park promenade, with its abundant fountain s, and the Ribera river walk, on the north bank of the river.

The average price of new and used housing in Spain stood at 1,284 euros per square metre in the second quarter of the year, according to the latest data from the Sociedad de Tasación, which represents a decline of 3.1% over the same period in 2014, and a fall of 2.4% compared to the previous quarter.

Thus, the average price of housing has accumulated a decline of 46.5% from the maximum values reached in 2007, when it stood at 2,401 euros per square metre.

During the first half of the year, the drop in housing prices is more pronounced in the homes of low quality (-9.1%) than in the homes of average quality (-2.5%), while the high quality housing recorded a decline in values of 1.3%.

The real estate confidence index prepared by the appraisal company continues to show an upward trend,

rising by more than two points in a quarter, to 49.5 points, placing it very close to the neutral position of 50 points, and continues the progressive growth shown in the index during the last two years, since the minimum registered in the last quarter of 2012.

The index is formed from the opinion of more than 600 professionals on economic-real estate aspects of the areas where they carry out their professional activities.

FRACKING is set to wipe £75 BILLION off the value of Britain's homes, a shock report has revealed.

A leading property expert has warned that if property prices slump by just two per cent in areas earmarked for drilling, the total cost to the UK economy would be £75 billion.

Ray Boulger, from leading mortgage adviser John Charcol, said: “Perception is everything in the property market and from the limited evidence already available it is clear that there will indeed be a negative impact on house price valuations in areas with the prospect of fracking happening.

The stock of unsold Spanish property fell by 5% last year

Bargain hunters eat into the vast pool of unoccupied homes in Spain. There is some doubt over the exact number of unsold and unoccupied residential properties in Spain at the moment, with different sources sometimes producing significantly different estimates, but the latest data [Image: The stock of unsold Spanish property fell by 5% last year] provided by the Ministry of Development at least suggest that the number fell during 2014.

The figure of 535,734 properties at the end of last year is still a high one, as inevitably it has to be given the excess supply which resulted from the construction and property boom in the early years of this century, but nonetheless it represents an encouraging 5% decrease on the total from the year before.

An idea of the effect of the boom and slump in the market can be gained by reviewing how the stock of unoccupied homes has grown and shrunk in recent years: in 2005 there were 195,000 homes waiting to be occupied, but by 2009 the figure had risen to almost 650,000 as interest from buyers tailed off sharply while construction projects were completed. Since then construction has ground to an almost complete standstill – only now is it sparking back to life in some areas – and the total has thus fallen by 17.5% to its current level.

The report issued by the government also shows that the pool of available new properties decreased in size in all of Spain’s 17 regions, with the decrease

amounting to over 20% in Extremadura, Cantabria and Navarra. However, it has to be said that these three regions were barely affected by the speculation of the boom, and the totals being dealt with here are very small ones: in both Extremadura and Cantabria the official figures show that there are now no new unoccupied properties left at all!

This contrasts sharply with the situation in the Comunidad Valenciana, where there are still 98,087 unoccupied properties, Andalucía (85,081), Catalunya (82,753), Castilla-La Mancha (45,126) and Madrid (41,540): these five regions account for almost two thirds of the national total.

It is noticeable that in geographical terms most of the highest totals are in provinces which are on the eastern Mediterranean coast. Figures of over 20,000 are reported in Barcelona, Alicante, Castellón, Valencia, Murcia and Almería, as well as in Madrid and Toledo.

The bottom line is that over 1 in 50 (2.1%) of all residential properties in Spain are still unoccupied, with the highest percentages being those reported in the provinces of Castellón (6.45%), Almería (5.47%), Toledo (5.39%) and La Rioja (4.73%). In terms of regions, apart from the uni-provincial one of La Rioja, the highest percentages are those of CastillaLa Mancha (3.57%), Murcia (3.18%) and Valencia (3.1%), while of course the lowest proportions are the 0% figure achieved in Extremadura and Cantabria.

Property sales in Spain reach three year high

Residential property sales in Spain increased in May to their highest level for three years, according to the latest official figures. But there is an ongoing collapse in new home sales, the data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE) shows.

Overall there were 26,455 homes sale in May, up 5% on last year and 11% on the year before that. But a breakdown of the figures shows that the increase came from the resale market, up 34% over 12 months, whilst new home sales fell 42% to just over 6,000.

According to Mark Stucklin, of Spanish Property Insight the overall picture is one of a recovery in demand for property in all areas where foreigners tend to buy, but with the market hamstring being a lack of attractive new homes for sale.

However this could be about to change. Demand is growing for new homes in Marbella, for example and developers are building again.

Land is in high demand and for the first time in almost a decade residential, commercial and tourism projects are under construction and market sentiment is increasingly positive, according to Pia Arrieta, partner at DM Properties Knight Frank Marbella.

‘Genuine interest in good value, good quality, well located plots of land is on the increase. Land prices in Spain climbed 5.2% during the last quarter of 2014 and sales increased significantly compared with the same

period in 2013,’ said Arrieta.

Arrieta explained that the strong pound is encouraging UK buyers who are considering a broader range of investments, but northern Europeans, particularly those from Scandinavia, the Benelux nations, Germany and Russia are also ranking highly among those choosing to build their dream homes on the Costa del Sol. ‘The demand for land stems from a growing appetite amongst end users’ for turnkey, contemporary products with the latest gadgets and luxuries.

Competitive construction costs and the decline in land prices in recent years has spurred developers on,’ she pointed out.

‘Marbella’s accessibility along with continuing investment in the town such as its new boardwalk and the increasing number of top rated restaurants are also encouraging new development,’ she added.

According to Knight Frank’s head of sales in Spain Christian de Meillac this upturn in demand has also been replicated in registration figures. ‘In the first half of 2015 Knight Frank has seen a 65% increase in new applicants registering their interest in Marbella compared with the same period last year,’ he said.

‘Buyers are seeing value again. Prices have come down, the exchange rate is favourable and buyers are seeing long term growth potential,’ he added. http://www.propertywire.com/

The Flu Epidemic

Doctor Enzo Matanzamas reported the first case of Alquerian Flu to the Ministerio de Sanidad y Política Social at the beginning of the week.

Influenzavirus B (Alquerian mutation) as it is officially known is a notifiable disease. It has all of the usual flu symptoms plus depression, fits of uncontrollable weeping and a large blue boil on the nose. Depression and fits of uncontrollable weeping are common in the healthy population of Alqueria so these symptoms can be misdiagnosed.

Manuela was the first confirmed case. She didn’t like visiting Dr. Matanzamas. He didn’t always take her temperature the way she expected. Her usual method of fighting colds was to take to her bed and place a large Sevillano Hat at the foot. She would then drink whisky mixed with lemon juice from a Cruzcampo Beer glass held in her gloved hand. She would continue drinking until the hat began moving on its own accord. She would then be cured or at least feel a great deal better. This was Alquerian Flu and not a common cold however.

Manuela was a fighter and was determined to carry on as usual, which she did. By the end of the week every man under forty had the virus. The olive mill came to a standstill.

With no labour available the presses stopped and no Alquerian olives entered the national market. Shares in olive related companies rocketed. A spokesman for ENAC the accreditation body said it was the best news for the industry in fifty years.

Only one person in the village was immune.

‘Keep the box.’ Urged the sales girl as we completed the deal on a telly of sizeable proportions.

The telly was duly delivered, unpacked and set up by two muscular men, who then left with the strict instructions that we were to ‘keep the box.’

Distributing this balsam free to the villagers he was sure he would make a fortune selling the recipe to the world’s pharmaceutical companies.

There was however a hitch.

Remitroot balsam cures only the Alquerian mutation and the Alquerian mutation kills all other forms of influenza. So to be cured one has to come to Alqueria and catch the local strain which kills the normal type.

Then one has to take the balsam curing the Alquerian mutation. The Alquerian mutation is debilitating so a period of convalescence is required. If no rest is taken the immune system is so weak, reinfection takes place.

The choice was clear, spend three week in Alqueria or suffer with the flu. Most people preferred the latter.

Poyato was heart broken, but Alqueria was back to its usual dysfunctional self and free to continue making a nuisance of itself once more.

We know about keeping boxes. The tops of our kitchen cabinets groan under the load of kept boxes, but the proportions of this box dictated that it had to have a place of its very own, like under the beds in the spare room. Unfortunately that space was already occupied by 4 under-bed boxes containing handbags, shoes and sundry items belonging to Pete.

There was nowhere in the house where a box of such size could be kept without it becoming a piece of furniture, so we turned our attentions to the outside.

‘It can go under the telly dish.’ Pete suggested.

It couldn’t. The telly dish is hurricaneproof, its arms and legs secured to both the house wall and the ground, leaving no room underneath for huge boxes.

The quantity of homeless random items was threatening to overwhelm us – there was nothing for it, we had to declutter before we disappeared under a mountain of miscellany.

We cleared enough ‘stuff’ to fill the back of Henry, but now at least we had achieved space under the beds, so I went to install it in what was to be its new home, created for it with so much time and effort.

I was against this idea. The gentle breezes of Limaria are quite capable of shredding a tarpaulin and sending its cardboard contents careening into the next Province.

However, some mathematician, and I suspect Pythagoras, decided that the relative distance between the underneath of the bed and the wall was insufficient for the insertion of a solid object unless that object was bent in the middle. In other words, it wouldn’t fit!

We returned to the spare room, and set about clearing the under-bed boxes and transferring their contents into cupboards. However, all the cupboards were already full, so we had to clear them out so that we could re-fill them with the things we had taken out of the

Food may contain hidden calories Every restaurant, pub and cinema chain should be displaying the calorie content of their food and drink, council leaders have said.

The Local Government Association (LGA) says some UK outlets already do so, but the industry must do more. A mandatory scheme in the US has given large restaurant chains until the end of 2016 to put calorie counts on menus.

The LGA, which represents councils in England and Wales, has called for voluntary action.

Classic car club move their base to the Hotel Overa

Amigos del Coches Clasicos announces its monthly meetings are to be held at the Hotel Overa, junction 547 on the E15 / A7 near Huercal Overa, Almeria. The move, from Aguilas, provides a more convenient and central meeting venue for its members within the Almanzora Valley and surrounding locality.

Meetings are held on the first Thursday of each month at 3.00pm and everyone owning or interested in classic cars will be made most welcome.

MOJÁCAR MUNICIPAL BAND SUMMER CONCERT

On Saturday July 18 at 9:00 pm at the Plaza del Fronton, the Municipal Band of Mojácar will offer its traditional summer concert as part of this summer’s cultural activities programme organized by the town council.

After a year of practice, rehearsals and the dedication that goes towards the staging of this concert and other performances that will take place during the year, the musicians and directors proudly carry out the difficult task of playing their own small, but important role in this band.

The repertoire chosen for this concert ranges from pasodobles to a medley of pop music, and is as follows: “Evocation” by Emilio Cebrián, “The Phantom of the Opera” by Andrew Lloyd Webber, “Andrés Contrabandista “ by Oscar Navarro, “Pops in the Spots,” by Roland Kernen and “Virginia”, by Jacob de Haan. The concert will be led by its directors Miguel Ángel Miranda Sevillano and Diego Martinez Melgares.

The municipal band made its first appearance in March 2002 with 40 musicians after a year of auditions, much enthusiasm, patience and desire to work. Those who are part of it today, a total of approximately 65 musicians, are children and youngsters with an average age of less than 15 years. They have all made up their minds to happily put in all the dedication and perseverance that musical learning involves.

The band also promotes teamwork among students, as most are used spending a lot of time on their own, practicing their individual instrument. Playing as a band should increase the awareness of the other players around them, in order to achieve a good all round interpretation of the music and working together in harmony.

Last weekend the Municipal Band of Mojácar participated in music festivals in the towns of Albox and Macael. They greatly enjoyed the standing ovation and applause from the audience, who enjoyed the evening listening to the music of this great band. On the 2nd of August, Mojácar will host the Regional Band Contest where the Municipal Band of Mojácar will serve as hosts of this event.

Last week, members of the municipal nursery, local police and civil protection undertook a course in basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) at the Mojácar Centro de Usos Múltiples.

The course was facilitated by Mojácar Town Hall in order to complement the training of this essential part of its workforce.

It is a course on the use of an Automated External Defibrillator taught by the training company Sanur based in Almería.

During the course knowledge and skills are acquired to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (AED), and it is aimed at those who need the corresponding accreditation for their development within their profession.

All monies raised at these events will go to the 2015 Poppy Appeal.

Friday 26th June saw a small number of the FTG visit Bar Aurora in the Port at Roquetas De Mar. The group included four holiday makers, who often attend the Friday gatherings, when on holiday in the Urb. This is the very first the tapas group have ventured long distance, to Bar Aurora!

My Week With Marilyn

“What I remembered most was her embrace, her belief in me and the joy she gave, that was her gift.

When I think of her now, I think of that time when a dream came true and my only talent was not to close my eyes.” Colin Clark.

This film was based on two of Colin Clark’s diaries: The Prince, The Showgirl and Me and My Week With Marilyn published in 1995. Clark was the least famous of his family in 1956 but he achieved great success after this brief but memorable and intimate encounter with Marilyn Monroe. His father was the renowned Kenneth Clark, art historian and his elder brother was Alan Clark M.P, another renowned diarist.

Clark chronicled the clash of egos between two legends: Olivier (played by Branagh) and Monroe (Michelle Williams) as well as his growing infatuation with Monroe which left him with a broken heart. Written by Adrian Hodges and directed

by Simon Curtis-this is his debut feature film.

The film opens with this simple revelation: “This is their true story.” And it is moving and sad for everyone touched

by Monroe’s glamour and stage presence.

Clark (an attractive Eddie Redmayne) was just 23, from an extremely privileged background, fresh out of Eton, determined to pursue a career in films much to his father’s irritation who offered to get him real work. Clark wanted to prove to himself as well as the famous Clarks that he could make a go of it. He had a lot to live up to. So, as he put it, he decided to join the circus.

Coming from such a famous family he already knew Olivier and his wife, Vivien Leigh as well as Margot Fonteyn who were regular visiters to Saltwood castle for afternoon teas.

It made sense for Clark to use his link with Olivier to ask for a job. Even when he was told there weren’t any jobs he came back to the office every day and just waited and waited… It was Vivien who persuaded Olivier to find something for Clark and guess what? He was given the most rudimentary and unglamorous job of being a Gofor which in the film industry means a person who has been told to Go for this or Go for that. We would call it a dog’s body. Officially it was third assistant director. But what a start! Larry had fallen in love with Monroe on a recent visit to New York and he wanted her to rekindle his career in films.

Monroe wanted to gain respect as an actress something she desperately craved and both felt that working together there would be mutual benefits. It didn’t quite turn out like that and the film based on a Terence Rattigan play The Sleeping Prince was largely panned by the critics.

It was 1956 when Britain had finally started to shake off the shadow of the last world war. Monroe had been married for 3 weeks to Arthur Miller. It was her third marriage and she was just 30. She had told the press that it was third time lucky. Already there were signs that the marriage had got off to a shaky start. Clark saw her sitting on the stairs holding a manuscript of Miller’s latest play: After The Fall about Marilyn and she was devastated to read about her mood swings, not to mention the drugs and the booze. Miller decides to return to the States, telling Larry: “She’s devouring me. I can’t work and I can’t think.”

During rehearsals Clark witnessed a prickly relationship with tantrums, walk-outs and tempers flared. As director, Olivier’s patience was tested. She was often late, fluffed her lines, was ill-prepared and would walk off the set when greeted by a sarcastic Olivier. An infuriated Olivier told Clark: Teaching Marilyn to act is like teaching Urdu to a badger. He vowed he would never direct again. Marilyn had destroyed his desire to do so.

“Monroe doesn’t really forget her lines. It is more as if she had never quite learnt them.”

Clark’s intimacy with his Greek Goddess lasted 9 days. It was a whirlwind of a chaste affair for the showgirl and her younger Prince Regent which afforded them some welldeserved privacy. “Monroe took a shine to the confident yet innocent Clark and whisked him away to spend a week virtually alone with her.” You Stepped Out of a Dream plays in the background as the two visit Windsor then Eton before the bubble bursts to Autumn Leaves and Clark’s heart is inevitably broken.

Monroe went on to make Some Like it Hot and Olivier played Archie Rice, a failing middle-aged song-and-dance man in John Osborne’s The Entertainer. It proved to be one of the triumphs of his career.

Over the years I’ve received a number of comments about Religion being the cause of so many wars; and some have even suggested that the best way to prevent war would be to ban all religion. And of course, on the face of it, one can’t help but have some sympathy with this view.

After all, so much of the Middle East and Africa seem torn by religious conflict, with ISIS, Boca Haraam and so many others regularly causing havoc in the name of Allah, whilst nearer home, we are all aware of the part religion played in the turmoil in Northern Ireland, and of course the Crusaders caused quite a bit of mayhem in their day in the name of Christ.

But how can it be that Christianity, a religion based on the teachings of Jesus, the ‘Prince of Peace’, has become the apparent cause of wars and strife?

For Jesus clearly taught that we should love our enemies and do good to those who hate us; that we should forgive others as God has forgiven us. How is it then that so many, over the centuries have gone to war in His name? How is it that so much hatred and hurt has been blamed on faith in Jesus, who himself spoke so much of love and forgiveness, who freely surrendered his

own life, still loving and offering forgiveness to those who killed him?

My only suggestion can be that those who use their Christian faith as an excuse for violence or war have no real faith at all, misunderstanding completely the teachings of the Christ they claim to serve. So the Bible tells us that when Peter understandably perhaps, in absolute loyalty drew his sword to defend Jesus at his arrest, that Jesus rebuked him, telling him that violence was not the answer. For how can I pray as Jesus taught ‘Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us’ whilst hatred for others remains within me.

So no, I remain convinced that true faith in Jesus Christ could never be the cause of war.

SPFL agrees new live TV deal for China

Bianchi ‘would have replaced Kimi at Ferrari’

Jules Bianchi had been earmarked for a place at Ferrari in the future, according to the company’s former president Luca Di Montezemolo.

The 25-year-old Frenchman died on Saturday from severe head injuries sustained in a crash at last October’s Japanese Grand Prix.

“Jules was one of us; part of the Ferrari family,” Di Montezemolo said.

“And he was the driver we had chosen for the future, once the collaboration with Kimi Raikkonen had finished.”

Bianchi was driving for the Marussia team, which used Ferrari engines, and had been earmarked at the time of the accident for a promotion to Ferrari’s other customer team, Sauber, in 2015.

Di Montezemolo’s remarks suggest that, had he lived, Bianchi could have driven for Ferrari as early as next year, as the team are currently considering whether to drop Raikkonen at the end of this season amid concern at the level of his performances.

Bianchi’s accident last year, told Sky Italia: “The Suzuka incident took away from us a first-rate person; reserved, quick, very educated, very close to Ferrari, who knew how to interact with the engineers.

“Our idea was that, after Marussia, he should go to another team to grow and be ready for the big leap. That is what we planned some years ago. But unfortunately fate took him away.”

The Scottish Professional Football League has agreed a deal to show live Scottish football on mainstream television in China for the first time.

Thought to be worth about £500,000 a year for three years, the deal is with Letv Sports, China’s leading digital broadcast platform for sports.

It will make 55 Premiership matches available across TV, online and mobile.

SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster said: “It’s a fantastic deal for Scottish football.”

The deal forms part of a wider, 10-year international rights agreement worth about £20m struck in 2013 between the SPFL and MP & Silva, which sells rights to the region for the benefit of all 42 SPFL member clubs over that period.

With the 55 games per season, there are rights to broadcast Scottish League Cup and Petrofac Training Cup matches live.

Doncaster said the new arrangement, revealed to member clubs at a board meeting at Hampden, “further demonstrates the international interest in our national sport”.

“Clearly, this is a massive market and gives our member clubs a great opportunity to sell themselves to the world’s fastest growing economy,” he said.

“Scottish football has an unrivalled history and so many positive stories to tell and we very much look forward to working with Letv Sports and MP & Silva to do just that in the three seasons ahead.”

Games will be streamed live across all forms of China’s traditional TV channel, IPTV, and all its online and mobile services.

Letv Sports is billed as China’s fastest growing sports media platform following the recent acquisition of major sports properties to expand its portfolio of content and having amassed more than 120 sports media rights in 17 categories such as football, basketball, motor sports, cycling, equestrian, marathon and combat sports.

Chief executive Lei Zhenjian said: “It is a great addition to our expanding lineup of premium sports content.

“Football’s popularity is rising in China and Letv Sports is committed to acquire as many of the world’s top sports properties as possible to serve our sports fans in China.”

Meanwhile, the SPFL board remains unchanged following a vote from member clubs.

Hearts owner Ann Budge and Kilmarnock chairman Jim Mann had put themselves forward but failed to dislodge the three Premiership representatives.

• At the time of going to print, Irish amateur golfer Paul Dunn, Jordan Spieth and Dustin Johnson were all in line to win the Open Championship at St Andrew’s.

• GB’s tennis stars (with Andy Murray inspirational) have reached the semi-finals of the Davis Cup for the first time in 34 years after beating France. They play Australia for a plkace in the final in September.

• Australia (566-8 dec. and 254-2 dec.) walloped spineless England (312 and 103) by 405 runs in the second cricket Test – their biggest win since 1946. Steve Smith (215) became the first Aussie since Don Bradman in 1938 to score a double century at Lords.

• On Sunday, we have the Hungarian F1 Grand Prix from Budapest where everyone will be mourning the death of Frenchman Jules Bianchi, who died last weekend following his crash in the Japanese Grand Prix nine months ago.

• Liverpool have signed Christian Benteke from Aston Villa for £32.5m (€38m) while Fabian Delph has also left Villa Park for Manchester City. Delph did U-turn,

having told a Birmingham radio station: “I’m staying... I love this club” (Villa).

• Manchester United have added Southampton star Morgan Schneiderlin to their squad.

• Sadly, Brian Hall, the former Liverpool and Burnley midfielder, has died aged 69.

• GB’s Sky Sport rider Chris Froome started the last week of the Tour de France wearing the race leader’s yellow jersey.

Thursday 16th July with temperatures in the “goodness me it’s warm” the 19th Hole Golf Society were back to the beautiful Aguilon Golf Resort to play the Monthly Medal.

With 32 players competing for this most prestigious award scores were confidently predicted to be low. Only one player returned with a nett score below par, Mark Danson, playing off three, produced his usual competent flowing performance carding a nett 69 ( two under par) to take the Men’s medal from second place, an ever improving Mike Palmer with a nett 72. Mark also collected Nearest the Pin on the 3rd. In the Ladies medal competition was even closer. Zeta Denyer took the win with a nett 77 from second place Chrissie Dow on nett 78. Well done to Mike Esposito and Mike Palmer for their Two scores on the 17th and 8th respectively.

Australia thrash England at Lord’s England slumped to a catastrophic defeat by 405 runs at Lord’s as Australia levelled the Ashes series at 1-1.

The hosts collapsed after lunch on the fourth day and were bundled out for 103 in just 37 overs, with Mitchell Johnson taking 3-27.

None of England’s recognised batsmen made more than 17 runs as Stuart Broad top-scored with 25.

Australia had earlier reached 2542 declared in their second innings, leaving England to bat 155 overs to save the game.

That they fell so woefully short raises serious questions about the calibre and make-up of a team that only a week ago stunned Australia by winning the first Test in Cardiff by 169 runs.

This week see’s HuercalOvera Club de Futbol back in training for the coming season due to kick off on the 30th of August. Los Rojos will be hoping that some of the form of last season will remain and look to have another strong campaign. Last year under Head Coach Sebas Huercal-Overa finished the highest in the clubs history and playing in the play offs for the Segunda B, this term looks to be slightly different with Sebas moving on to new horizons but the club welcome ex player and coach Juanma to lead the side in 2015/16.

There has also been movement on the paying staff side with Lee Spires & Campanas (Lorca), Chincilla (Quinatar), Mansour (La Hoya Lorca) moving on but reenforcements have been made in fan favourite Dani “Roy of the Rovers” Barriles, Fontfría & José García (Hercules), Atenza (Jumilla). Goalkeeper Paco has also left the club but talks are ongoing with Almeria B about retaining Carlos (Right Back) and Raul Ramos (Winger) with the club for another season.

The Real Lorca have once again risen to the Tercera Division after the demise of the former club through financial difficulties, but the club are now on solid footings and looking to push on towards a play off sport after signing experienced players at this level. The first preseason friendly was probably the toughest they will have for years welcoming UEFA Cup Champions Sevilla to the Estadio Francisco Artés Carrasco, the clubs have strong links due to the Head Coah of Sevilla being Unai Emery who not only finished his playing career at Lorca but also took them to the heady heights of the Segunda division and mastered a victory over Malaga in the Copa Del Rey. The Asylum MMA Almanzora

On Saturday 11th July the first Brazilian Jujitsu open competition was held in Benalmadena, Malaga and 4 locals from the Asylum M M A Almanzora t e a m attended.

For 2 of the team it was the first competition in martial arts that they had competed in so nerves were high but with family and friends making the trip with them they weren’t short of support. There were approximately 180 competitors in total with some big name teams in attendance.

Alex Corcoran is the teams m o s t experienced m e m b e r being a blue belt in Jujitsu and his experienced showed when he won gold in gi. His fight was over in the blink of an eye when Alex used a move that he has been practising for months on end so it goes to show that practise makes perfect!

Paul Ruddle has only been learning the art of Jujitsu for just over a year and did exceptionally well for his first competition bringing home a silver medal in gi and a bronze in no gi. He earned a lot of respect from the

other competitors for taking part and being the second oldest man in the competition.

Sam White is only just 17 and technically should of been in the juvenile section but instead the organisers placed him with the adults fighting in no gi.

It was Sam’s first competition as well although it didn’t show as he fought like a pro coming away with a silver medal.

Charlie White has competed a few times in MMA before and fought no gi in this competition.

He was up a g a i n s t some tough competitors b u t managed to get a bronze medal. Charlie has been a get asset to the Asylum coaching the team and helping with fitness training so a big thank you him from the team.

Michel Platini: Uefa boss asked to stand for Fifa presidency

Uefa boss Michel Platini has been asked by a majority of world football chiefs to stand for the Fifa presidency.

Platini is said to have had assurances of support from his own confederation, Asia, South America, plus North and Central America and the Caribbean.

It is thought 60-year-old Platini has yet to decide if he will stand.

Fifa president Sepp Blatter said on 2 June he would stand down and on Monday will announce plans for reform of football’s world governing body.

Blatter will hold talks with Fifa’s executive committee over a date for the new presidential election, with 16 December earmarked by several regional football confederations as their preferred option.

The 79-year-old was elected for a fifth term as president on 29 May but four days later announced his intention to relinquish the post amid two corruption investigations.

Former Fifa presidential candidate Prince Ali bin alHussein, who lost to Blatter in the May election, has called for the Swiss to leave immediately.

“President Blatter’s resignation cannot be dragged out any longer. He must leave now,” he said.

“He cannot be permitted to plan his succession and manage this election process. An interim

independent leadership must be appointed to administer the process of the elections, in addition to the reforms that are being discussed prior to the elections.”

Prince Ali, who gave no indication in his statement of whether he intends to run again for the Fifa presidency, said the December option is unfair on Fifa members.

“It will not be possible for any of the other football associations of the world to put forward credible candidates from our community,’’ said the 39-yearold, who has been president of Jordan’s national football body since 1999.

“It is their absolute right to be a part of this process, and to have time to carefully consider the future without being rushed into an early election.”

Blatter is not expected to backtrack on his announcement to stand aside as president, despite appearing to suggest in June he was reconsidering his decision.

When you consider it's been 34 years since Britain has got this far, beating a team as strong as France to reach the semis is a great achievement for everybody involved.

Roger Federer is one of the best players to ever play the game, and it took him until last year to win the Davis Cup. He might not have played at every opportunity, but he needed Stan Wawrinka to step up his game over the last couple of years to help him get there.

I think our rise through the different Davis Cup zones has been the quickest by any team but our

I thought Jamie played a great match on Saturday; he did really, really well after I started the doubles a bit slowly.
