END OF FREE UK MOVEMENT Theresa May is next month poised to announce the end of free movement for new EU migrants on the same day that she formally triggers Brexit negotiations. The Prime Minister is expected to say that EU citizens who travel to Britain after she triggers Article 50 will no longer have the automatic right to stay in the UK permanently. They will be subject to migration curbs
after Britain leaves the European Union, which could include a new visa regime and restricted access to benefits. Mrs May is expected to say that EU migrants who arrived in the UK before the “cut-off date” will have their rights protected as long British citizens living elsewhere in Europe are granted the same assurance. The “cutoff date” will be around March 15.
According to the International Organization for Migration, around 1,000 migrants arrived in Spain by sea between January 1 and February 22, and 38 did not make it, dying on the way. Another 13,000 crossed the Mediterranean to Italy and Greece. The Spanish territory of Ceuta in northern Morocco, which with the enclave of Melilla further east forms the only land frontier between Africa and the European Union,
has also been the scene of unrest recently as hundreds of migrants have stormed the border fence. On February 17, nearly 500 migrants managed to get through the double wire, six-metre high fence in one of the biggest breaches since the border barrier was reinforced in 2005. A few days later, more than 350 people forced their way through again after breaking access gates with shears and hammers.
MORE RESCUED
The Spanish coast guard rescued 257 migrants trying to cross the Mediterranean to Europe from Morocco in inflatable dinghies in an “intense weekend,” they said Monday. Sunday evening was particularly difficult with five boats carrying 210 people from subSaharan Africa rescued, while the remaining 47 were recovered from their dinghies on Saturday afternoon, a spokeswoman for the coast guard said.
They were all taken to various ports in southern Spain such as Almeria and Motril, where they were attended to by the Red Cross. Some were suffering from hypothermia but none were in any serious condition, the spokeswoman said. The coast guard also said they had pulled a body from the sea not far from the small stretch of water between Gibraltar and Morocco, but they were not able to say whether it was that of a migrant.

UNMANNED drones could be used to patrol Spain’s borders with Morocco at Ceuta and Melilla. The interior ministry’s secretary for security Jose Antonio Nieto has confirmed interest in introducing airborne surveillance along the borders of the Spanish enclaves. It comes just days after hundreds of migrants stormed into the country
from Morocco by scaling the border fences. Last month a border officer lost an eye when a 1,100 strong group stormed the fences. Nieto has since personally visited Aeorum, a leading drone developer in Spain, to discuss the idea. The drones would be equipped with heat-detecting cameras which would give early warnings of groups
gathering to mount an offence at the border. Despite Spain erecting high fences topped with razor and barbed wire, they are still being climbed over by migrants desperate to reach European soil. Some 850 have managed to enter the country so far this month. Spain has been met with criticism by leading human rights groups for its treatment of migrants.

The coming-of-age drama of a young black man growing up gay in a rough part of Miami beat the feelgood musical, which had been a favourite after clinching 14 nominations. La La Land did however pick up a total of six Oscars including best director for Damien Chazelle – at just 32 years old – and best actress for Emma Stone, lead actress alongside Canadian heart-throb Ryan Gosling. Casey Affleck won best actor for his role in Manchester by the Sea, which also picked up the Oscar for best original screenplay. The Oscars were also highly political this year. Host Jimmy Kimmel was just a few minutes into his opening speech when he cracked the first joke about US politics. “I want to say

Remember last year when it seemed like the Oscars were racist?” he said, referring to this year’s diverse nominations. Mahershala Ali made history, becoming the first Muslim actor to win an Academy Award. He won the first award of the

LONDON STOCK EXCHANGE/ DEUTSCHE BOERSE MERGER IN DOUBT
The 29bn euro (£24.5bn) merger of the London Stock Exchange and Deutsche Boerse could collapse after the LSE said the deal was unlikely to be approved by the European Commission. The commission had ordered the LSE to sell its 60% stake in MTS, a fixed-income trading platform. However, the LSE said the request was “disproportionate”. It warned investors it would struggle to sell MTS and that such a sale would harm its ongoing business. As a result, the LSE said: “Based on the commission’s current position, LSE believes that the commission is unlikely to provide clearance for the merger.” The two rival exchanges announced plans for a “merger of equals” about a year ago, aiming to create a giant trading powerhouse that would
better compete against US rivals.
They had already agreed to sell part of LSE’s clearing business, LCH, to satisfy competition concerns before the commission’s surprise demand concerning MTS earlier this month. The Commission had given the exchanges until Monday to come up with a proposal to meet that demand. LSE said that such a sale would need regulatory approval from several European governments and would hurt its wider Italian business. “Taking all relevant factors into account, and acting in the best interests of shareholders, the LSE Board today concluded that it could not commit to the divestment of MTS,” the exchange said on Sunday night. When the London Stock Exchange trumpeted its merger with Deutsche Boerse
last year, the chairman, Donald Brydon, was remarkably relaxed about the Brexit vote. He and his German counterparts said the deal would go ahead regardless of the outcome. What they didn’t know was that it would eventually fall foul of another aspect of the single market - Brussels’ control of competition laws. The two sides have made no bones about the fact the merger would create a company with a powerful presence in key markets, and have offered a number of sops to competition authorities in an attempt to win their approval. But it was not enough; Brussels insisted the LSE cede control of MTS, an important Italian clearing house with a crucial role in the trading of Italian government debt.

We meet this youngster running, trying to hide in a boarded up apartment from the kids who want to beat him up. Little is found there by Juan (Mahershala Ali, doing career-best work), a local drug dealer. Juan takes the kid out to eat, even bringing him back to his place, where he meets his partner Teresa (Janelle Monáe). Little could use this makeshift family. His dad is gone and his mother Paula (Naomie Harris) happens to be one of Juan’s best clients. Juan becomes something of a father figure, but that might make this relationship sound more predictable than it is. Juan sees something good in Chiron and wants to help this quiet boy, even as he provides the product that’s ruining his home life.

Heat Your Pool With Solar Power
You can heat your pool using solar power. Your pool system already includes the pump, controller, and filter, along with PVC pipes that route the water flow. Simply break into the PVC line after the filter and run a couple of flex hoses (or PVC, if you prefer) to the solar collector panel, which you can lay out on the ground or set against a hill to achieve some tilt toward the sun. When the valve is closed, water runs exclusively through the solar collector panel, heating the water. As you open the valve, less water flows through the collector panel. In this way, you can adjust how much heat is going into your pool. Solar collector panels are available at most pool supply stores. You can get a 4 ft. x 20 ft. panel and flex hoses are needed too. Sometimes adaptors are necessary. Place the solar collector panel where it sees the most sunlight when the pool pump is running.
If you place the solar collector panel on your roof, try to minimize resistance to the water flow.
Keep the solar panel out of the wind as much as possible. For best heating results, run the pool pump during the sunniest time of the day; running it longer will result in more heat in the pool. If you want to use two or more solar collector panels, connect them in parallel. The general rule is to use a total collector surface area that’s about half the surface area of your pool. But this varies quite a bit. Sizing your collector surface area depends on a number of factors: The pump’s running time: The longer it’s on, the more heat you collect in the pool for a given collector size. Pool location: If you have an aboveground pool, the heat loss is much greater. You need a collector with more surface area.
TOTAL POOLS
Solar potential when the pump is on: Note how your solar panels are oriented. How much sunlight do you get?
Providing Quality Pool Services to Albox and Mojacar
Wind: If you have a lot of wind, your collectors will run inefficiently unless they are glazed.
Services We Offer: Weekly Pool Service One Off Cleans Acid Washes Filter Cleaning Sand Replacement Equipment Installation How to Instruction Sessions
If you don’t have any kind of swimming pool heater, your useable season may be around six months of the year. If you install a swimming pool heating system, you can get nine months. This explains the popularity of pool heaters. In a full-scale, professional-grade swimming pool solar system, when the pump is on, the controller decides whether to activate the solar collectors by measuring the temperature at the collectors and the temperature of the pool water. When heat’s available at the collector, the motor valve opens, and the pump moves water up into the collectors and back down to the swimming pool.

Most of us know that swilling down lots of booze, or sitting awake for hours on a smartphone won’t do us any favours when it comes to sleep. But could what you do during the day stop you getting a good night’s sleep? Actually, yes – and it’s also worth noting that a ‘good’ night’s sleep isn’t just about how many hours you get. Here are some guidelines on tell-tale indicators of good sleep – including falling asleep in 30 minutes or less, waking up no more than once, and sleeping 85% of the time you’re in bed. Here’s some of your habits which could be interfering with that goal. Working from home People who work from home are more likely to suffer from stress and insomnia than people who work from an office.

broadcaster, RTVE, to ensure that programmes aimed at children – or likely to appeal to them – finish no later than 11pm between Sunday and Thursday, or midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. “Sociological and public health studies show that Spaniards in general sleep an average of an hour less than other Europeans,” they say in their parliamentary motion. It stands to reason, they say, that young people also suffer from watching too much TV too late into the night.

WITH MICHAEL DAVIES, ABOGADO/SOLICITOR
If you wish us to print an article about a particular topic, please e-mail info@daviessolicitors.com - www.daviessolicitors.com Not getting married can lead to a very large inheritance tax bill. Question: My partner of 7 years (not married) has recently deceased and he had left me his house in his will. The house he has left me is the house where we lived and it has a value of 240,000 euro. I am being told that I will have to pay over 80,000 euro in inheritance tax. Surely this cannot be correct. Answer: This is unfortunately true. In Spain the inheritance tax is paid by the beneficiaries (not by the estate) and how much you pay depends on your relationship with the deceased. Descendants and spouse in Andalucía are each entitled to receive up to 250,000 euro tax free (since 1st of January of 2017). (Residents of Andalucia or of an estate in Andalucia being received by a resident in another country of the European Union.) On the other hand if you are not married and are not family there are no exemptions whatsoever and to make things worse, after applying the sliding scale of inheritance tax rates, the final amount needs to be multiplied by two. In your case estate planning was as simple as getting married and you would have paid no inheritance tax whatsoever. As things are, I am afraid there is no way of avoiding the payment for over 80,000 euro that you mention. Michael Davies. Abogado. Hello and welcome to CanDu Computer Bytes. The only professional computer help that comes from over 38 years’ experience and a University education. You can contact me for an appointment at my workshop or I can come to you, by calling 689 892 745 or by Email: canducomputing@hotmail.co.uk. For today I would like to discuss password security. Not yours or mine but all these online places that require passwords (email, banks, etc). How many time recently have your heard that ‘Yahoo’, ‘Google’, or ‘Microsoft’ have been hacked and their list of passwords have been stolen? Should you be worried? Well depending on their level of security the answer is either, ‘No’, ‘Yes’ or ‘Very’. There are, in essence, 3 ways to store information: Plain text (easy to read – by anyone); Level 1 encrypted and obviously, level 2 encrypted. Encryption is simply taking something readable and substituting the words for something that looks like complete rubbish. Now we need to look at how our information can be stored by them. The first method of storing information is plain text, which is exactly what you are reading right now (not very secure, is it)! The second method is to take your password put it through a program that converts (hashes) it into a unique number and only store that number. When you realise that a normal 8 digit password can be made up from 26 Capital letters, 26 Lower case letters, 10 (0-9) numbers, 8 or more punctuation, the final 8 character password makes for a lot of possible combinations. The drawback is that if someone has
a set of ‘Rainbow’ tables (pre created tables of these ‘hashes’, then they will know that DFCD 3454 QT89 S000 means ‘Password’ and then they know your password! The benefit is that to find a single password can take a very long time! In the case of a bank or somewhere where your information is extremely important they will put an additional string of characters, that they have calculated and is unique to that individual, onto your password. This is called ‘Salting’ and then make the ‘Rainbow’ tables useless. Without this process of decoding passwords becomes very slow. As we have discussed in previous articles, all that is left is ‘brute force’ which involves comparing single characters, then 2 character combinations then 3 character combinations, and so on. To check all single character combinations will take a fraction of a second, 2 character combinations will take several seconds but a 6 character combination will take upto 1000 years to crack! If the bank now add another 6-8 characters onto the password, you can be assured that your information is safe! So, when you read that an email provider / bank / anywhere else, has been compromised, should you immediately go defensive and change your passwords? This is a difficult question to answer but my suggestion is this, If your password give access to sensitive information (bank, sensitive personal information), change the password immediately; Otherwise don’t worry too much about it. So until next time.

change over time. There are many types of stone, and you can use any of them on your outdoor countertop, but should you? Porous stones like marble, limestone and bluestone may look great at first, but they stain easily, so you may be left with counters marred by grease or wine. Granite’s a popular, durable option. It stands up well to the elements, doesn’t absorb stains or odours as easily as other stones, and shouldn’t fade in the sun. Tile offers the widest range of style options. You can go with an ornately patterned style, or a stone look, or just about anything in-between. It’s frequently affordable, and it’s the easiest do-it-yourself surfacing material of the bunch. But if you live in a cold climate, the freeze-thaw cycle puts the grout and tiles at great risk of cracking.
Planting hanging baskets, flower pouches & containers
If you have a greenhouse or can provide frost protection for your plants, then you can start planting up baskets, flower pouches and containers in April. This will allow the plants to reach full flowering size early in the season. If you don’t have any means of frost protection then baskets and containers are best planted up in early summer after the risk of damp mornings has passed. Alternatively planted hanging baskets and containers can be placed in a sheltered position outdoors during the day and brought under cover at night until the risk of frost has passed. Lining hanging baskets The traditional mesh hanging basket is made of plastic-coated wires although solid plastic hanging baskets are available. Wire

Increase your outdoor living and entertaining space with these ideas for outdoor kitchen designs. In an outdoor setting inferior craftsmanship will deteriorate quickly. When choosing outdoor kitchen countertops your priority should always be durability first, and looks second. Otherwise, you’ll find your investment going up in smoke. Planning enough counter space is your priority here. A total of 36’ of 24”-deep counter is the bare minimum. Select a material that will suit the style of your house and your cooking style. Your best choices are natural stone, concrete or tile. If your heart is set on a manufactured countertop like quartz or recycled glass, talk to the manufacturer first. Most use pigments that are not designed to stand up to outdoor use, so if the counter is exposed to UV rays the colour may

hanging baskets require a liner to hold in the compost and plants. There are many types of liner available although the most inexpensive and versatile is sheet plastic, which can be cut to size and disguised by placing in a layer of straw or hessian before lining. How many plants will I need? A general rule of thumb when creating a hanging basket is to use one plant per inch of basket diameter – so 12 plants per 30cm (12 inch) hanging basket. The only exception to this is when you use stronggrowing plants such as Fuchsias and Geraniums (Pelargoniums). In this case it is best to only use 5 plants per 30cm (12 inch) hanging basket. A 30cm (12 inch) container will comfortably accommodate about 6-8 plants.

A modern multifunctional gallery building with 44 apartments, comfortable and protected private community areas and various Club services for the 50+ generation at Costa de Levante, Almeria, in Turre near Mojacar, just 8 - 10 min from coastal villages with charming beaches. The NEW 50+ Generation Club Lifestyle model is being carried out for the first time in an Apartment Gallery building at the Costa de Almeria in the South of Spain, providing a modern community lifestyle. This complex is designed for people who like to live independently in their private homes, but at the same time close together in harmonic neighbourhood-friendship, sharing group facilities like safety, comfort and lifestyle services and occasionally exchanging mutual help when needed. The ESPADEVIDA gallery home includes co-housing elements, but now for the first time in Spain - as part of the new ESPADEVIDA concept - it includes a special establishment meeting place, the “Club Forum, to involve people from the region and from all over Europe. This new type of Real Estate opens a door to a healthy future lifestyle and involves people right from the beginning in the community-Club and Club service establishment process via a specially prepared Club Forum where they can meet their future neighbours along the way. It can provide a home for people who are several years before retirement age, around 50 or upwards who are coming into early retirement or who are already enjoying retirement. Due to the involvement of local retirement and health care specialists, the ESPADEVIDA concept includes lifestyle comfort services in earlier years, and when required later on, long term care for a resident.

Barclays (BARC.L) said on Monday that it had appointed Ian Cheshire, the former chief executive of Kingfisher Plc (KGF.L), to chair its ring-fenced UK retail business. Cheshire, currently the chairman of Debenhams, the department store chain, will take up the new role with Barclays at the beginning of April. “I am very much looking forward to joining the Barclays Boards and to supporting all our colleagues,” Cheshire said in the statement. Britain’s ring-fencing rules aim to avoid a repeat of the 2008 financial crisis, when banks’ bad bets in wholesale financial markets put ordinary depositors’ cash at risk, and led to big taxpayerfunded bailouts. Cheshire had previously served on the board of Bradford & Bingley, that was nationalised during the financial crisis because of its heavy exposure to the slumping British housing market.

THE BRAIN SHIFT
Loco Paco was concerned about Benjy his pet Saharan Dung Beetle and his performance for the up and coming season. Benjy was OK over hurdles, on the flat and quick enough out of the stalls but he laboured in wet conditions. Paco took to taking him out during inclement weather to improve his technique in the wet. It was during a thunderstorm of Wagnerian proportions and while Benjy was on his third lap ‘IT’ happened. A flash of lighting and Loco Paco hit the ground, hair smouldering and eyeballs oscillating in their sockets. He clambered to his feet and ‘WHACK’ he was hit again. Paco staggered to his feet once more, smoke issued from his ears and his legs appeared to have lost the value of teamwork. Staggering into the Bar La Casa Devante Paco emitted a strange blue glow. The bar’s customers were quick to cash in on Paco’s condition. Several warmed there hand over him and Alfonso Delgado used the unfortunate Paco to charge his mobile phone. Just where Alfonso plugged in his charger is something we should perhaps not pursue. Paco however, after the initial shock started to scribble on pieces of paper, walls and table-tops. The first thing to emerge was the blueprints for a viable fission nuclear reactor. The solution to ‘Global Warming’ was soon clear as Paco became more and more productive. His fame spread as documents, blueprints and thesis mounted. They soon filled

a sizeable briefcase and covered every major ill that presently befell mankind. Manuela was of course sceptical and went to talk to our electrically induced intellectual giant. Manuela said she didn’t believe any of it and asked Paco if he thought she was a ‘fool’. Paco replied that he thought she was a narcissist with psychotic delusions of grandeur and a tendency towards nymphomania. Manuela crossed him off her Christmas card list. The United Nations soon got to hear about not so Loco Paco and duly summoned him to appear before a special committee to present his work. It was while the limousine was negotiating the New York traffic that it swerved to avoid an itinerant Lama. Paco shot forward rendering himself unconscious as his head hit the walnut trim. “You dropped your briefcase Paco” Pepa informed him when he came around. “What’s a briefcase, ooooh aren’t the buildings tall, Pepa I think your head’s on back to front”. Alqueria and Pepa had their Loco Paco back at his insane best. The world may never know how to build an economical fission reactor or stop the icecaps from melting but Benjy won the Duke of Berksville Cup by three lengths.
Confident that the deluge of liquid mud that is called rain had finished I washed the clothes line and loaded the washing machine. I told it what I wanted it to do, pressed Go and stood back. It always has to have a bit of a think before it springs into action, but today it was taking far longer than normal. However, start it did, but reluctantly. It was sipping water as if it were a fine wine and turning over with the speed of an elderly sloth just settling down for a snooze. It was obviously struggling, so I switched it off quickly before it could break down altogether. I recognised the symptoms – low water pressure. I also knew what to do about it, so without ado I trotted round to the pump; and came to an abrupt halt. There are two handles that I have to turn – or was it one handle? If so, which one? I turned them both – the pump remained silent. I turned the back handle – silence! I turned the front handle – silence. Ah! I know! If the pump doesn’t start, push the red button. I pushed the red button – silence! I pushed it again, in case it hadn’t heard the first time. Silence. I had reached the limit of my female ingenuity, it was time to turn the problem over to a Man. Pete was deep in Facebook, so establishing communication was not

immediate, nor easy. ‘Our water pressure is down.’ ‘Put the pump on.’ ‘The pump won’t start.’ ‘Have you turned the handles?’ ‘Yes, both of them.’ ‘Have you pushed the red button?’ ‘Yes. Twice.’ Facebook still had most of his attention. ‘Can you come and look at it – Please?’ He rose with a sigh, and followed me out to the little concrete cupboard that houses the pump. ‘I’ve tried everything,’ I pleaded. ‘I’ve turned all of the handles in all of the directions, and I’ve pushed the button, but nothing happens. Watch.’ I pushed the button again to the sound of silence. He surveyed the pump in all of its obdurate glory, then silently bent down and picked up the electric cable that connects the pump to the power. ‘It won’t go if you don’t plug it in.’ He inserted the plug in its socket, and immediately the pump went ‘Clkhmmmmmm.’ Wordlessly he turned and retreated to the higher mental plane of Facebook. ‘Oh.’ I said in a very small voice. ‘Thanks.’

So much for the view that organic food is just a navel-gazing lifestyle preoccupation for the neurotic rich. The latest market figures show that sales for organic produce are booming – at their strongest in a decade – with a 15% hike last year at Tesco alone. In growth terms, organic is now outperforming the non-organic grocery market, contradicting cynics who said that at the first whiff of austerity we would ditch high-minded concerns about animal welfare, pesticides and the planet, and join the cheap food scrum. In anticipation, UK supermarkets cut back on shelf space allotted to organic food to compete with German discount chains. But organic continued to thrive from independent retailers, home-delivery schemes, farm shops and in restaurants. Thoughtful
chefs increasingly give organic a big thumbs-up; sales to caterers also shot up by 15% last year. And guess what? Aldi and Lidl shoppers also prefer not to eat pesticide residues or meat from GM-fed livestock that have never seen a green field. Organic loyalists have developed a shopping strategy that makes organic food accessible, even if you’re on a tight budget: organic fruit, vegetables and herbs bought from growers, or at farmer’s markets, are regularly cheaper than the conventional equivalent from supermarkets. In the dry goods department (staples such as flour, oats, rice and peanut butter), the price differential between buying organic and non-organic is often slim. Once again, organic can actually be cheaper, particularly if minimally packaged in a wholefood shop. Happily,
V ENTA EL GUARDUCHA
organic chocolate costs the same as good-quality nonorganic. Organic poultry and pork are always significantly more expensive than nonorganic – but free-ranging, organic pigs and poultry are reared in a measurably more humane way and usually taste discernibly better. Knowing this, you might decide to eat poultry and pork less, but stick with organic. Organic milk and yogurt are more expensive than supermarket equivalent economy lines, but not necessarily than their midrange or premium ones, and the cows are happier: no “zero grazing” allowed. Perhaps the trick is to be pro-organic without making a religion out of it. Buy organic in the categories that matter most to you, but regularly test any presumption that it is costing you more. You could get a pleasant surprise.

Simple Cheese & Onion Pie
250g self-raising flour, 60g cold butter, diced, 60g cold lard, diced, Salt. 2–3 tbsp iced water, 3 medium onions, 25g butter, 250-300g cheese, ideally Lancashire, but cheddar or young pecorino romano works too. Black or white pepper
soft. Remove from the heat and allow to cool. Grate the cheese. 3 Preheat the oven to 180C/350F/gas mark 4. Roll out the pastry and use it to line the base and sides of the tin, so it overhangs slightly. Do not trim yet, but prick the base with a fork.
Milk, for sealing and glazing.
Make a layer with half the onion, grind over a little black pepper, then make a layer using half the cheese. Repeat.
1 You will need a tart tin. Make the pastry by rubbing the fat into the flour with your fingertips, until the mix resembles breadcrumbs. Add a pinch of salt and enough iced water, gradually and cautiously – to make a ball of dough, neither too sticky, nor too firm. Wrap the dough in Clingfilm and chill for at least 30 minutes.
Paint the edges of the dough with milk. Roll the remaining dough
into a circle a little larger than the tin, lay it over the filling and then press it firmly into the edges. Trim the excess dough away. Make three short slashes in the middle of the pie to let steam escape. If you like, use the non-blade side of a knife to make a faint lattice. 4 Sit the pie on a preheated baking sheet and bake for 40-50 mins, or until golden and the cheese is bubbling gently through the slashes. Allow the pie to sit for 30 minutes before turning it out.
2 Peel, half and slice the onion into halfmoons. In a frying pan, melt the butter over a low flame, then add the onions and a pinch of salt and cook, stirring for a few minutes. Add a small glass of water and then cook, stirring occasionally, for about 15 mins until the water has been driven away and the onion is very

Soltimes 31 FAMILY OF BRIT TOURIST KILLED BY SPANISH MOB IN 2009 CAN FINALLY HOLD FUNERAL The family of a British tourist pushed to his death during a violent attack by a Spanish mob can finally hold his funeral eight years after the tragedy. Stephen Mallon, 49, was unlawfully killed when the heavily armed gang attacked him as he tried to defend his two teenage sons, an inquest concluded today. Mr Mallon had stepped in when a heavily armed gang of about 30 local men turned on his 16-year-old twin sons Peter and Carl and some friends in an unprovoked row outside a bar. The waiting mob were armed with knuckledusters, coshes, metal bars taken from parasols bricks belts, flower pots and bottles. During the extremely vio-
lent assault, Mr Mallon was hit on the head with a beer bottle before being shoved 16ft off a ledge. He suffered fatal head injuries in the fall. Despite lying motionless on the ground, two of the gang carried on kicking his lifeless body. Paramedics who turned up felt frightened and threatened by the crowd who at one point tried to overturn their ambulance as they battled to save Mr Mallon, a roofer. Peter and Carl Mallon escaped the brutal attack with broken bones, cuts and bruises. Their father was rushed to hospital and spent 11 days in a coma before the family made the heart-rending decision to switch off his life-support machine in

Menorca, paradise closer than ever ... Minorca was declared a Natural Biosphere by U.N.E.S.C.O. in 1993, a distinction awarded to the islanders for their strong passion in preserving the islands natural facets, culture, fauna, wildlife and promoting a controlled and sustainable industrial and urban development. Ciutadella Fiestas These fiestas are held on the 23rd and 24th June, and the Sunday before. They are the most traditional and famous in Menorca, and date back to beginning of the XIV century. From the beginning, and a custom which is still maintained now, the church’s fund commission would make a religious procession on horseback to the small rural chapel now known as Sant Joan de Missa to honour their patron saint.

A deeply impressive SUV with a competent driving experience But beyond the question of how well it succeeds what was a clever and likeable predecessor, the new 3008 is being set up by its maker to lead the redefinition of the brand’s design identity and accelerate the process of Peugeot’s gradual upmarket relocation, which began with the 308 in 2013. It’s intended to be elegant and desirable as well as versatile, and while it’s larger than the car that went before it, it’s also lighter. While the outgoing dieselelectric Hybrid4 model isn’t going to be directly replaced (a petrol-electric plug-in hybrid is planned for 2019), the new 3008 is being
launched with a modern mix of three and four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines and with a choice of manual and torque converter automatic gearboxes. Off-road appeal will be limited by the absence of a four-wheel-drive model, at least for now, but is redressed by an increase in ground clearance, dualpurpose tyres for those who want them and new traction control system. On the face of it, the new 3008 has an air of style and technological sophistication about it. Could it be the fully realised evidence of PSA Group boss Carlos Tavares’ new, more ambitious Peugeot?

Peugeot 3008
The new Peugeot 3008 is a different kind of car from the one that took its maker into the crossover niche eight years ago. Having been designed before the stylistic norms of the growing market segment had set hard and fast, the original 3008 was very much a hatchback with a sprinkling of SUV about it. Some thought it weird, others a bit ugly – but we always quite liked it. The new 3008, by contrast, can be recognised as a downsized SUV rather than a crossover hatchback. Peugeot has evidently weighed the potential sales growth it might enjoy by pitching the car directly at the likes of the Volkswagen Tiguan and Mazda CX-5 against the risk of alienating that portion of the 3008’s original customer base who might have preferred a more discreet design – and found in favour of the former. Quite understandably, too, with the sub-£30,000 SUV segment expanding at its current rate. But beyond the question of how well it succeeds what was a clever and likeable predecessor, the new 3008
is being set up by its maker to lead the redefinition of the brand’s design identity and accelerate the process of Peugeot’s gradual upmarket relocation, which began with the 308 in 2013.

“WHERE REPUTATION MATTERS”
Citroen’s car-cam new take on big picture Ever wished you could capture a magic moment on a memorable drive? Now you can with a clever car camera from Citroen. So often the problem is finding somewhere to stop safely to capture that moment but with the new Citroen C3 it’s a case of ‘sight, camera, action’ on the go with a revolutionary world-first. You’ve heard of candid camera – now the French car-maker has created ConnectedCAM Citroen which films what the driver sees through the windscreen. he fun factor is obvious but there’s also a serious side to the onboard HD camera technology. Neatly positioned just behind the rear-view mirror, ConnectedCAM Citroen has two main functions: A short push of the camera’s button takes a picture which is automatically downloaded, a long push takes up to a minute of video footage which can
be downloaded when the car comes to a stop. The camera also operates as a conventional dashcam in the event of an impact while driving – an ‘accelerometer’ sensor automatically triggers the camera, saving video footage from 30 seconds before and a minute after the incident which could be valuable when dealing with claim and blame through insurance. The geolocation function transmits the GPS coordinates each time the car stops which could prove invaluable in the event of an accident. And if you’re in the habit of forgetting exactly where you parked your car, the GPS technology can help you find it again. Pictures and videos can be shared by email or on social media using the free smartphone app that can be downloaded from the App Store and Google Play. Videos can only be shared while stationary
but an autoshare function on the app means pictures can automatically be shared on the chosen social media. The app also allows you to manage the video length between 20 and 60 seconds. ConnectedCAM Citroen is currently exclusive to the C3 – standard on range-topping Flair and a £380 option, packaged with automatic lights and wipers and selfdimming rear-view mirror, on mid-spec Feel – but expect it to be rolled out across other models and brands in the future. Simply download the app on to your smartphone which explains how to link it to the camera via WiFi. You simply choose the network associated with the camera and put in the password and, heyho, away you go. After that first pairing the smartphone and camera will automatically connect.

Leicester were 5,000-1 at the start of last season to win the title and shocked the world of football to finish top of the Premier League.
UNTRUE Leicester striker Jamie Vardy says speculation that he was involved in manager Claudio Ranieri’s dismissal is “untrue and extremely hurtful.”
Pacquiao v Khan
WBO world welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao will fight Great Britain’s Amir Khan on 23 April. The bout has been arranged after Pacquiao’s followers on Twitter voted Khan as the opponent they would like to see the Filipino fight next. “This is what the fans wanted,” Pacquiao, 38, said. Khan, 30, also confirmed the fight but, although Pacquiao has said his next fight would be in the United Arab Emirates, no venue has been announced. Khan said the UK, Dubai and US were being looked at as possible locations and that they “should find out in the next couple of days”. The Briton, who won silver as a lightweight at the 2004 Olympics, beat compatriot Kell Brook, Australia’s Jeff Horn and American Terence Crawford with 48% of the vote carried out by Pacquiao.

Spanish rider Jorge Lorenzo
Spain’s MotoGP rider Jorge Lorenzo Guerrero was born on 4 May 1987 in Palma, Majorca and is currently registered to ride for the Ducati team, having switched from Yamaha late last year. The 2006 and 2007 World 250cc champion, his nine pole positions led to nine individual race victories in the latter year. He then went on to win three MotoGP World championships in the space of five years - in 2010, 2012 and 2015. Apart from that treble in the 500cc class, Jorge has also finished runner-up on three occasions and in 2012, became the first Spaniard to win multiple Premier
class titles. With 64 career wins under his belt, he currently lies fifth in the alltime list, trailing leader Mike Hailwood by just 12 victories. Jorge came second in the riders’ championship in 2013 behind fellow countryman and future star Marc Márquez, admitting that “I had a poor first half to the 2014 season and as a result I simply couldn’t make up ground on the championship leaders and had to settle for third place behind Marc and the doctor himself, Valentino”. Things, changed for the better in 2015 when Jorge claimed his third 500cc world championship. After recording the sixtieth race win of his career in Aragon,

Ranieri SACKED!!!
Claudio Ranieri was sacked as Leicester City manager on Thursday night, nine months after guiding the club to the first top-flight trophy in their 133-year history. Ranieri returned to East Midlands Airport from Seville in the afternoon to be given the news by Leicester’s director of football Jon Rudkin in a ruthless move which has stunned football as much as their remarkable title win. The 65-year-old has struggled throughout a feeble title defence, bewildering players with tactics and team selection and allegedly marginalising backroom staff, but Leicester’s Thai owners are still facing severe criticism after opting to dismiss the Italian. Earlier this month they had released a statement declaring unwavering support for Ranieri, but the 2-0 defeat against Swansea is thought to have seriously alarmed the club hierarchy and forced a swift rethink. But the departure of Ranieri is certain to polarise opinion, even though his
second season has been excruciating. Gary Lineker, the former Leicester striker, tweeted shortly after the decision: “After all that Claudio Ranieri has done for Leicester City, to sack him now is inexplicable, unforgivable and gut-wrenchingly sad.” Ranieri was rewarded with a new contract for his part in the title win, doubling his pay to around £3million a year. He is thought to have been given the news after arriving back in England on Thursday afternoon. A club statement read: “Claudio, appointed City manager in July 2015, led the Foxes to the greatest triumph in the Club’s 133-year history last season, as we were crowned champions of England for the first time. “His status as the most successful Leicester City manager of all time is without question. Now Leicester must mount a revival after only five league wins all season. For Ranieri, it is a case of Dilly Ding, Dilly Gone.
Rooney Stays!
Wayne Rooney will leave Manchester United at the end of the season despite insisting he is staying at Old Trafford, reports suggest. The striker ended a week of uncertainty, that saw his agent Paul Stretford fly to Beijing to discuss a move
to the Chinese Super League, by releasing a statement confirming he is staying put. ‘Despite the interest which has been shown from other clubs, for which I’m grateful, I want to end recent speculation and say that I am staying at Manchester United,’ said Rooney. ‘I hope I will play a full part in helping the team in the fight for success on four fronts. ‘It’s an exciting time at the club and I want to remain a part of it.’ But with the 31-yearold unhappy at being a fringe player, and United keen on a move, it is highly unlikely that Rooney will be at the club next season.
– MotoGP Champion 2017?
Jorge clinched the title on another Spanish track when he won in Valencia to make if five world titles overall - two in the 250cc class and three in the 500cc category. Last year, Jorge, although he won in Qatar, France, Italy and in his home country Spain (Valencia) and finished runner-up in three other races - in America and twice in Spain at Jerez and Aragon - and finished third in Austria, San Marino and Malaysia – never really looked happy sitting on his Yamaha machine. However, it must be said that at one point, he was well in contention for another world championship success.
Unfortunately things didn’t go according to plan in his last six races! In the end he had to settle for third place in the rider’s championship on 208 points. Fellow Spaniard Marc Marquez took the title on 278 points with Valentino Rossi second on 236. Jorge is now confident of having a good season with his new employers, Ducati, in 2017… and although Marquez is once again rated higher in the rankings by the sport’s officials and, indeed, by various pundits, he still believes that given the breaks, he can go close to winning another world title. Jorge admitted: “I feel fine right now and I’m looking forward to the new season.

Eddie Jones criticises tactics
England head coach Eddie Jones was seething with sarcasm after his side’s 36-15 Six Nations defeat of Italy. The Grand Slam champions trailed 10-5 at the end of the worst half of Jones’ reign, brought about by their inability to adapt to Italy’s crafty refusal to form rucks. But a second-half rally saw England claim a scarcely deserved, six-try, bonus-point victory at Twickenham. Jones insisted England had not played rugby, that paying spectators should ask for their money back and that he should refund his day’s wages to the Rugby Football Union.

Messi is Barca’s saviour
Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored twice, including a late winner, as Manchester United beat Southampton 3-2 in the EFL Cup final on Sunday. The Swede headed home the winner from six yards out in the 87th minute after earlier scoring the opener in a hugely entertaining affair at Wembley as United sealed their first major trophy under Jose Mourinho. Jose Mourinho thinks striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic will stay at the club for another year. Ibrahimovic, 35, joined United in the summer on a one-year deal - with an option to extend his stay at Old Trafford for a second season.
Lionel Messi scored a late winner as Barcelona beat Atletico Madrid to go briefly top of La Liga. Rafinha gave Barca the lead when Luis Suarez - who had an effort ruled out - took a shot which ricocheted off two defenders to land at his feet. Diego Godin levelled when he headed home Koke’s free-kick. But Messi pounced in the 86th minute to win the game for the champions after his initial effort was blocked by defender Stefan Savic. Real Madrid went back to the top of the table by one point later in the day when they came back from 2-0 down to beat Villarreal 3-2. They still have a game in hand on Barca. Real Madrid scored three goals in 19 minutes to over-turn a 2-0 deficit against Villarreal and go back to the top of La Liga.

A former All Black and former Wallaby have reportedly been arrested in Paris on suspicion of trying to buy cocaine. Ali Williams, who plays and advises French rugby team Racing 92, and James O’Connor, who plays for Toulon, had been partying in the city centre during a break from the Top 14 competition. It was reported the pair were arrested in front of a nightclub near the ChampsElysees just after 3am on Saturday local time.
Andy Murray says he has recovered from a bout of shingles as he prepares to return to action at the Dubai Tennis Championships this week. The British world number one has not played since losing in the fourth round of the Australian Open five weeks ago. Also in the Dubai draw is Roger Federer in his first tournament since winning his 18th Grand Slam title in Melbourne. “I’m fine now, I’ve been training flat-out for the past few weeks,” 29-year-old Murray said. “I was a bit sick for 10 days, a couple of weeks, after I got back from Australia.
