EWN Media Group Expands Newspaper Portfolio EWN Media Group (EWNMG) has further expanded its portfolio of newspapers by taking over the Sol Times publications.

The takeover announcement comes just weeks after EWNMG, the parent company of Euro Weekly News , added the well-established, three-edition RTN Costa Blanca newspaper firm to its expanding empire.

Originally launched in the Almeria area in 2005, since then the Sol Times has further expanded into Costa Calida, Mar Menor, and Costa Blanca. After completing the latest takeover negotiations earlier this month, Michel and Steven Euesden, owners of EWNMG, instigated internal restructuring. STAMPEDE ACCUSED ARRESTED National Police officers in Malaga have arrested three young people in connection with the stampede of people during one of the recent Holy Week events. Two people were slightly injured at the dawn service of Nuestro Padre

Jesús Cautivo on the Tuesday when the incident occurred.

It appears that around 2.0am when the procession was in full swing, an argument broke out connected to where a section of chairs was placed to watch the event. It’s alleged that someone put one of their own seats in the front row blocking the view of those that had been there for some time awaiting the spectacular.

The subsequent row and fight resulted in many leaving the

scene quickly, causing some to be caught in the confusion, falling and being slightly crushed.

Many of those at the scene believed something more serious had occurred after they heard a loud noise and shouting. Some thought it was a terrorist attack after reports of shots being fired.

The three arrests were made following police looking at the available video evidence of the procession.

FAMILIES FACE GRAVE SITUATION

A significant number of families that have relatives buried in a number of cemeteries in Almeria face losing those last resting places.

In the official gazette for the province (BOP) published late last week, the Almeria City council wish to remove a total of 202 graves – 198 in San José and Santa Adela cemeteries in the city and four others in El Alquián and La Cañada.

As stated in the BOP itself, the rights for these graves to remain expired between July 1st 2014 and July 31st 2016 and despite many attempts to contact relatives of the deceased – even using stickers placed on the headstones asking them to get in touch with the authorities – they’ve not been able to do so and

has resulted in this latest publication.

From the date of the BOP – 20th April 2017 – those connected with the 202 deceased have a period of 30 days to arrange either for the voluntary moving of the remains or to sign an extension of the contract. If neither of these actions is completed in the time the usual outcome is for the remains to be dug up and sent to an ossuary – a container or room in which the bones of dead people are placed.

Current law doesn’t allow for graves to be kept ad infinitum, with many cemeteries virtually leasing the ground

for an agreed number of years before the contract expires.

It’s normal practice for family members to be contacted in this way and the use of stickers on the graves are often placed on them during the All Saints Day festival on 1st November each year – the most popular day of the year for loved ones to visit their late family members and friends.

a half hours early for a flight to Spain missed their plane because staff did not arrive to escort them to the gate on time.

Bernard and Doreen Crowther, 78 and 73, were travelling from Manchester Airport to Murcia, where they own a holiday home.

Son Stephen, 51, from Saddleworth, Greater Manchester, had organised for the couple to be taken to the executive lounge, where they would be collected and taken to the plane by a member of staff.

He said, ‘My mother struggles with mobility. She has diabetes and heart problems and is short of breath. ‘She can walk two steps at a time but she really struggles.

‘When my parents were in the executive lounge, my father kept looking at his watch and he

asked three times if there was someone coming for them.

‘By the third time they still hadn’t come and one of the staff said ‘Right, I’ll take you down’, even though its not her job to do that.

‘But by the time they got to the gate they were taking the cases off the flight.

‘My parents were left in the lurch.’

A member of staff booked Mr and Mrs Crowther into a hotel for the night and booked them onto a flight on Friday evening.

The next morning, Mrs Crowther’s blood sugar levels had risen significantly and she was too unwell to travel.

Stephen, who owns a civil engineering company, had to take time off from work to collect them from the airport.

‘In the past she loved to travel and the airport staff have been excellent.’ Mr and Mrs Crowther

have been going on holiday to Spain since the early 1960s and used to own a home on the Costa Brava. Mrs Crowther’s health has made travelling more difficult in recent years, but the pair still hope to go on their holiday.

Stephen said: ‘I suggested we could try again next week.

‘I wouldn’t want mum to stop going, it’s something they really enjoy. Stephen said this is the first problem they’ve had while travelling to Spain. The executive lounge is outsourced to company OCS, who look after passengers and make sure they get to their flights on time. OCS said, ‘OCS Group immediately apologised privately to the two passengers and is happy to do so publicly.

‘We regret the inconvenience to the two passengers and the cause of their delay is currently under investigation.’

A MAN FOR PILAR

ilar had made a serious mistake. She was looking for love on the internet.

That however wasn’t the mistake. The mistake was allowing Manuela to find out. For those who haven’t been paying attention, Manuela is the ‘femme fatale’ of Alqueria and Pilar her understudy and Pilar hated Manuela with a hatred that was almost tangible. Manuela now saw the opportunity of making a nuisance of herself and set about creating the perfect profile with which to bait the soon to be unfortunate Pilar.

George Clooney ‘Photoshopped’ produced the perfect image and a paragraph plagiarised from ‘The perfect Man Monthly’, a fictional magazine, completed the perfect profile. Manuela was in high glee as she posted it on ‘B2gether. com’ the website for the terminally lonely in answer Pilar’s pitiful plea for a life’s partner. With a self-satisfied smile Manuela sipped a chilled Remitroot piña colada as she waited for events to unfold. As she waited for Pilar to respond she occupied herself by putting her own profile online, just as a ‘distraction’ she told herself. It was to be her own petard which would, in due course to hoist her.

Fate is fickle and Manuela was due a full helping of ‘karma’. Karma in shape of Antonio Poyato who lusted after Manuela like a Berber

hungers for sherbet. Seeing Manuela’s profile online he set about preparing the ‘perfect’ profile. George, once again came in for editing, this time with a goatee beard and duelling scar while the profile was completed with an extract from the end paper of ‘Biggles Flies Undone’. Antonio Poyato duly responded to Manuela’s post and waited.

The situation is thus. Pilar, in a state of high sexual agitation responded to Manuela’s bogus profile. Manuela had bribed Pongy Pedro to meet Pilar on her fake profile’s behalf. To explain Pedro’s epithet, he has a rare fungal condition that effects the groin with an aroma of a decaying halibut, a ginger tabby cat has been following him about for the past two weeks.

Manuela, in a similar state of agitation had responded to Anotonio’s Poyato´s fake profile.

Meetings had been arranged.

Both couples were to meet at the same time at the Bar La Casa Devante and both couples were to wear the flower of the early Remitroot plant, this being a traditional symbol of fertility.

Not that the ladies in question needed any help in that direction. What could possible go wrong?

Antonio Poyato met Pilar instead of Manuela, they enjoyed a brief but vigorous relationship.

This was fortunate as Manuela’s reaction at being presented with poyato instead of a Clooney lookalike could have proved fatal for the lovelorn Antonio. Manuela cut her losses and took Pongy Pedro home for vermin control purposes.

This of course was never spoken of again.

To complete the triad of usual suspects for annoying computer click we will have to cover the one that should and does cause the most concern. This is the sound of your computer’s hard drive failing.

Before I describe what to listen for, and how to remedy the problem, I want to ask you a simple question. “Do you regularly back up all your important information to an external drive using the 3,2,1 system?”. If the answer is “What are you on about?” contact me about the article describing this simple system for data protection. Now on to the symptoms.

You can expect to hear a gentle hum or whirring from a working hard drive,

and if you listen very carefully, the sound of gentle clicking as the read/write arm moves into position.

All of these are normal sounds! What you are looking for, but really don’t want to hear, is the relatively loud, regular click very much like a metronome. This is where the internal circuits boards are starting to break down. NOW is the time to do the emergency 3,2,1 back up if you haven’t done it already as you have hours until it completely fails.

It is possible to find, buy and replace the faulty circuit board and, in my experience, not particularly expensive.

So it is an option worth considering.

Otherwise, replacing a drive is simple in both Laptops and Towers and should take no more than 5 minutes.

With one masterful slit of the Stanley knife Pete had opened the box and removed the object without damage to the contents or his temper.

Therefore it was child’s play to re-insert it, securely tape the box shut and felt-tip the return address prominently.

I bore the box to the Correos confident in the knowledge that it was: Securely packed.

Securely closed. Correctly and prominently addressed, and most of all that the Correos was open!

I waited for several months while the Chica behind the counter patiently walked the girl in front of me through the process involved in sending a registered letter and the benefits thereof.

Eventually it was my turn. I proffered my box and explained my purpose.

‘We can’t take it. It’s still got it’s bar code on it.’ The Chica informed me. No problem. ‘May I borrow your biro?’ I enquired, and proceeded to scribble out the offending bar code.

‘No, that’s no good. The machine will still see it. You have to remove it.’

It must have good eyesight – I couldn’t see it anymore!

Nevertheless, I picked it off the counter and took it next door to the Papelería.

‘Have you got something that I can stick over this bar code?’

This time it was a Chico. He gazed at me blankly. Seeing his confusion I explained why

I borrowed the biro again, and she watched while I wrote in our address.

I had a horrible feeling that she was going to reject it yet again, as the biro’d address was in blue, not black, but I think she had had enough problems for the day, so she took it and 4€ and the box disappeared into the inner workings of the Spanish postal system.

Just a week or so back, a BBC survey revealed that 50% of those questioned, including many claiming to be Christians, stated they didn’t believe the Easter story of the resurrection of Jesus.

It may therefore be surprising to learn that there’s more written historical evidence of an empty tomb and of Jesus having been seen alive by large numbers of people in the weeks following his very public execution than of the existence of Julius Caesar. In addition to the four separate accounts contained in Scripture, some of which were available and uncontested by the Authorities within a few years of the event, early Roman (Josephus) and Jewish (Toledoth Jesu) historians similarly confirm these facts.

That Jesus had died was beyond question; certified by the Roman executioner, who then, dispelling any doubt, speared him through heart and lungs. That the grave in which he’d been entombed was empty just days later, was accepted by the Authorities, who neither argued nor produced a body, providing instead the unlikely explanation that “thieves had broken in and stolen the corpse whilst all Roman Guards slept!” This, at a time when sleeping on duty was a capital offence!

That many people claimed they’d met, spoken and even shared a meal with Jesus after his resurrection, was again uncontested, other than suggestion that they were lying or

hallucinating. Yet these, for the most part, simple, ordinary witnesses, who a few days earlier had been terrified to admit even knowing Jesus, all told similar stories, and were themselves sufficiently convinced of his resurrection, that they were ready to face torture and death rather than retract their statements. Hardly likely if they knew their evidence to be untrue.

And then there was Saul, the ultimate hostile witness; a man determined to destroy these “rumours”, who himself met the risen Christ and became as a result the greatest protagonist for the new religion, which affirmed that Jesus, Son of God had risen from the grave.

With all this evidence, how can anyone seriously doubt the resurrection?

pain’s ruling Popular Party (PP) may not yet be putting public pressure on Esperanza Aguirre, the former head of the regional government of Madrid and for three decades a leading figure in the party, but in private it will be expecting her to resign after the arrest on Wednesday of Ignacio González, her right

hand man for many years and who served as her successor as regional premier between 2012 and 2015. Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy will be hoping that Aguirre will remember her words when she stood down as president of the Madrid division in February 2016 amid the Púnica corruption scandal involving senior colleagues on

González was among the 12 people arrested on Wednesday as part of Operation Lezo, an investigation into corruption at the Madrid regional water utility Canal de Isabel II. González is the latest politician to be ensnared in one of a number of cases that has been dogging the conservative party for some time. Spain’s Canary Islands Battles Slick after Ferry Accident Spanish coast guard crews worked Sunday to clean up a three-kilometre (1.9-mile) long diesel slick off the holiday island of Gran Canaria after a passenger ferry slammed into a pier.

The ferry carrying 140 passengers smashed into a breakwater late Friday in the port of Las Palmas, the capital

of Spain's Canary islands off the northwest coast of Africa.

Thirteen people were injured and the crash damaged underwater fuel pipes, the regional government said in a statement. Video footage on Spanish television showed chunks of concrete falling onto the port.

Emergency crews managed on

Saturday to collect half of the roughly 60,000 litres (16,000 gallons) of diesel that spilled into the ocean, the regional government said.

Three coast guard boats were on Sunday working to break up the slick.

Last Saturday April 22, the day before International Book Day, the posthumous work of Esteban Carrillo, “Diccionario Mojaquero”, was seen for the first time.

The presentation took place at 8.30 p.m. at Mojácar’s Centro de Usos Múltiples. The Mayor of Mojácar, Rosmarí Cano, the Town’s Councillor for Tourism, Emmanuel Agüero, the book’s publisher, Juan Grima and, the author’s daughter, Elisa Carrillo Ridao all attended this event.

The “Diccionario Mojaquero” was the life’s work of its author, who kept a note of the words and expressions used by Mojácar townspeople in the 1950’s and 60’s. In it, the local way of speaking in the town was captured and, now serves as a great contribution to the historical-linguistic and dialectal heritage of Mojácar.

It contains more than 1,500 words, all of which have been cross referenced with official dictionaries and which include their origins, as well as popular phrases or poems illustrative of their use and meaning.

This “Diccionario Mojaquero” is the second publication of the Mojácar collection, sponsored by the Town Council’s Department of Tourism.

The regaining of the Town’s rich history and memories is not only a means for cultural diffusion, it is also a clear commitment by the Council to show their rich heritage.

Within the tourism sector it serves as a differentiating element, clearly demonstrating that Mojácar has much more to offer than sunshine and beaches.

May is Right to Hold a General Election

rexit is the most significant political issue in a generation. The prime minister is right to call a general election because of it. To proceed on a legitimate mandate to withdraw from the EU, Theresa May has, rightly, decided to elicit the support of the people.

Many across the political spectrum accept the Brexit verdict but denounce the mandate May has. She was unelected by the public and the Conservatives did not win the 2015 election on a manifesto that outlined what it would do if the 'Yes' vote won.

May has eight weeks to win an election, but even less time to put together a manifesto package that is comprehensive and unequivocal on Brexit. There have been no signs to date that the UK Government has an overarching negotiating position or even an agreed understanding of what needs to be agreed upon with the EU.

Nor indeed if it comprehends what needs to be done to save the United Kingdom.

The democratic deficit facing Scotland is real. The country returned an SNP majority at both the 2015 and 2016 UK and Scottish Parliament elections and voted conclusively to remain in the EU. Seeing as it is extremely unlikely Scotland will majoritively vote Conservative in 2017, the problem seems set to continue ad nauseam.

May has denied First Minister Nicola Sturgeon the right to hold a second Scottish independence referendum despite the Scottish Parliament voting to hold one. In what has otherwise been a grand game of politics for Theresa May, Scotland remains an Achilles heel unlikely to disappear.

Brexit demands a broader look at how the UK is governed. It begins with answering the question of who actually has the right to proclaim that 'they' have the right to represent their constituents given the competing levels of government in the UK. A general election might settle Brexit in a moral

sense for England, but it doesn't resolve the issue for Scotland. The June election is Scotland's unofficial second independence run: support any party other than the Conservatives as a verdict against Brexit, or support them in full as the only party prepared to enact the Brexit decision. The possibilities are curious given that Scottish polls continually show that there is no appetite for new referenda and a general fatigue with the whole debate.

In any event, referenda cannot predict every potential, emerging issue.

General elections, on the other hand, grant a mandate for representatives to deal with changing circumstances and having one is an ethically sound decision.

How Scotland votes should, and must be, considered in the aftermath of June to settle the independence debate for a generation. Only then can May proceed with Brexit in good conscience while protecting the United Kingdom.

2. Heavy lifting The same Harvard study that highlighted the impact of night shifts noticed the same effect on the egg count of women whose jobs involved heavy lifting.

According to researchers, women seeking fertility treatment whose work included heavy lifting (such as nurses or interior designers) produced 14% fewer eggs than women who did not, and those that were produced were of a poorer quality. This could be due to the stress such repetitive physical exertion puts on the female body and its ability to reproduce.

“A 2016 study showed that women who have had their appendix or tonsils removed are likely to be more fertile than others. ” According to new research, soaring house prices in England are reducing the number of babies born, because fewer people can afford their own home and so delay starting a family. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development found that for every 10 per cent rise in house prices, the birth rate drops by 1.3 per cent.

With one in seven couples (approximately 3.5 million people) experiencing fertility problems in the UK, and more and more women delaying pregnancy for work or financial reasons, the question of what (beyond age) can impact the chances of conception is a hugely important issue.

Research suggests that the reasons behind unexplained infertility are varied, and sometimes, extremely unusual.

1. Night shifts Earlier this year, a study by Harvard University revealed that women who work night shifts are potentially more likely to suffer from infertility problems. Women working anti-social hours had a 28 per cent reduction in eggs, in comparison to those who worked during the day. Researchers believe that this could be due to the disruption of a woman’s circadian rhythm, caused by irregular shift patterns.

3. Consuming too many soft drinks A 2016 study indicated that the frequent consumption of soft drinks could limit a woman’s chance of becoming pregnant.

The artificial sweeteners used in many diet versions were associated with higher rates of infertility, while added sugar was linked to a lower quality of eggs. While the impact of individual additives needs further scrutiny, it is key to remember that the regular consumption of both diet and regular soft drinks can lead to obesity and diabetes, both of which can impact fertility.

Children as young as 13 are checking in to a US treatment centre to try to break their addiction to mobile devices.

Experts have warned that exposing children to electronic screens leaves them at risk of permanent damage.

The reSTART Life Centre near Seattle is the only treatment unit of its kind in the western world and helps youngsters with addictions to digital technology, including video games.

Its founder Dr Hilarie Cash told Sky News: “When you start handing these devices to young children and they’re distracted by the movement, the colour and sound coming from this device, that is mesmerising enough that it will override all those natural instincts that children actually have for movement and exploration and social interaction.”

She advises people of all ages to restrict their use of devices to certain scheduled times and says families should confront their worries about the increasing influence of technology.

“I think it is really important to come together as a family and talk about tech and how much is good, how much is ok and when does it start to interfere with family relationships, with responsibilities, with sleep, and many other things,” she said.

That advice would be welcomed by the Koch family in Los Angeles.

By Nathan Filer the authors convey powerfully. Ten years previously, Matthew and his older brother, Simon who was a Down Syndrome child, went on holiday with their parents to a caravan park in Dorset. Children were forbidden from going down to the beach themselves because the path was steep and uneven so it was dangerous. Matthew often did things he wasn’t allowed to do and when he headed towards the beach, Simon followed. Early on in the story, Matthew has a fall followed by an aftershock.

“By the time Simon caught up with me, at the twist in the path where exposed roots ensnare unsuspecting ankles-I was wailing like a baby.” Amongst many things, Simon suffered from hypotonia, a weakness in his muscles. He was so worried by the fall that he picked his brother up and carried him all the way back to the caravan.

The big shock for the reader is the start of the next chapter when we are told that Simon is dead. Cruel and sudden. “It was the whole universe turning its back and walking away, incapable of caring.” A second fall that proves to be fatal.

The moon is symbolic of Simon: “He had a big round face, which was forever smiling and made me think of the moon.”

Matthew’s delusions amount to seeing and hearing Simon wherever he goes and for this, he is sectioned under the Mental Health Act at the mercy of the NHS. Filer seems vague about the cause of his schizophrenia.Possibly Simon’s death and the guilt surrounding it is one factor although we learn that Nanny Noo’s brother Ernest was put in a mental asylum after a tragic incident that involved Matthew’s grandmother. “Her brother has a disease, an illness with the shape and sound of a snake. It slithers through the branches of our family tree. It must have broken her heart, to know I was next.”

Or was it a faulty gene perhaps? Matthew is portrayed in a sensitive way and the reader can expect such perceptive insight into the mind of a young man struggling with mental problems-auditory hallucinations. It is far from depressing and you will find him an interesting character who deserves your sympathy.

he book won the Costa Book Awards in 2014 and was the first debut win since 2006. The main character is Matthew Homes a 19 year old boy suffering from schizophrenia. He has been sectioned and is receiving psychiatric treatment.

Matthew is a convincing character suffering a cruel disease, trapped in the ever changing world of mental illness.

Comparisons have been made with “The Curious Incident.”

Mark Haddon. Both boys suffer pain and confusion which

mother has to take regular medication to deal with her grief, her little yellow pills. Matthew carries the guilt of causing his brother’s death and his life is turned upside down, spiralling out of control. There are rumours that he actually killed Simon. He is heavily medicated, removed from school and has to attend a day centre three days a week. The medical staff present him with a “plan” which maps out his life, when he has therapy, which tablets he should take. His life is repetitive, monotonous with such an imposed regime and what allows Matthew to retain some sanity in his madness is his writing: Where the moon isn’t. It’s his therapy, his life-saver.

It was Matthew who was shouted at for putting his brother in such a horrible position. Matthew was resentful: “It was always me who was responsible for everything, I often resented him.”

Man Killed in Spain Holiday Resort Crash A man understood to be an Irish citizen has been killed in a car accident in Magaluf, Spain in the early hours of this morning.

The man, who has not yet been named, was struck by a car on the Carrer Pinada, off the Carrer Punta Ballena, at approximately 3am.

Police arrested a Spanish citizen who has tested positive for alcohol and drugs, according to the Majorca Daily Bulletin.

The publication reports that the deceased is an Irish citizen. The Department of Foreign Affairs told Independent. ie they have not yet been contacted in relation to the incident but stand ready to provide assistance.

Spanish police have been contacted for comment.

Emergency services rushed to the scene where paramedics spent approximately 30 minutes attending to the man.

When to Sow Chillies

We mainly sow seeds during February and March, but you can leave it later. There is a great variance in the number of days taken for a particular variety to reach maturity. Some can produce ripe fruit in 60 days from sowing and others take as long as 120 days. Remember that varieties such as Habaneros take 100 or more days (3 1/2 months) from potting on to reach maturity. So these need t o be started in good time or the fruit will never ripen.

Chilli Germination We tend to sow seeds about 5mm deep and in small pots, with a number of seeds of the same variety in each pot.

Keeping each variety in its own pot is a good idea because germination time varies greatly.

As soon as the majority of the seeds in a pot have emerged and are showing two well formed leaves, and certainly before they become leggy, they should be transferred into 3 inch pots. Hold the seedlings by the leaves, and not the stems. Note that some seedlings may need a little gentle help getting free of the seed pod. If you have the propagator space you can sow directly into 3 inch pots.

After Germination At this stage they should be moved to a site where they will get plenty of sunlight; ideally to a heated greenhouse or warm conservatory.

International investors are willing to invest 14,000 million euros in the purchase of real estate assets in Spain over the next twelve months, according to a survey carried out by consultancy firm Knight Frank, among 184 international investors.

On the list of the European countries most attractive to investors, Spain has now risen from sixth place to third place.

In particular, Spain is currently the preferred country to invest in for 11.6% of the investors surveyed, behind only Germany (23.3%) and the United Kingdom (39.4%).

The stabilisation of the eurozone, “signs of improvement in the economy” and the property price adjustments accumulated in Spain since 2008 are, according to the firms interviewed, the main factors encouraging them to include the Spanish market in their investment plans.

“Spain is the country that has undertaken the largest correction of prices in the EU, with cuts of up to 65%”, said Knight Frank’s business director, Humphrey White, in a statement.

A New Luxury resort on the beach

A leading luxury hotel chain is to open an establishment in Marbella. On Thursday, the W chain signed an agreement with the Platinum Estates investment group, which is developing a project in the area of the sand dunes at Real de Zaragoza, to manage the hotel, which is expected to open in 2021.

There had been rumours that the investment group, based in Singapore, and the hotel chain, one of the most important in the world’s luxury sector, were planning to join forces on an important project, but due to a confidentiality clause, neither party to the agreement wanted to give any details until the deal was signed and the official announcement was made in Hong Kong.

The mayor of Marbella, José Bernal Gutiérrez, was at the former British colony for the presentation of this major investment by one of the world’s most exclusive tourism firms. The hotel chain is part of the Starwood-Marriott conglomerate, the two giants of the American hotel industry who merged in September last year. In total W, which is Starwood’s luxury brand, has more than 60 hotels on the five continents.

At present the W chain has just one hotel in Spain, the famous ‘candle hotel’ in Barcelona port, and according to its website it will be opening another of the same group in Madrid in June 2019. The new luxury hotel in Marbella will therefore be the chain’s third in this country.

W originally planned to announce the plans for this new hotel during the World Travel Market last November, but decided to wait because some delays in planning permission needed to be resolved.

Although the hotel will not be in operation until 2021 its beach club will almost undoubtedly open much earlier. The company needs to start its marketing at least two years beforehand, so it has asked Marbella town hall for a guarantee regarding the timescale for granting the works licence, so the construction can begin according to schedule.

In recent weeks there has been significant progress in the town planning processes which were still pending at that time, and the developers believe the works licence could be issued by May of next year. This would mean that the first phase of the project could be inaugurated in 2019.

An estate agent and a buyer’s solicitor have a clear conflict of interest.

They both coexist but have completely different roles. The agent sells you the property and the solicitor advises you about your purchase. You pay your solicitor to keep you safe. He must only respond to his paying client: YOU. Following the agent’s recommendation is such a bad idea because you run the risk of choosing a solicitor that could be highly dependent on the referrals of that particular agent for the survival of his business. It is a fact that some solicitors get over 80% of their work from one or two agents.

Solicitors every so often have to recommend that their client does not purchase the property and this could be more difficult for a solicitor who is very dependent on the referrals of a particular agent.

It may feel tempting to buy the package and do it all in one but you should not do this. If the property is in perfect order your agent should not have any problems in dealing with the solicitor of your choice. If he is insistent on a particular solicitor you should star to hear alarm bells.

You cannot say that nobody told you. Do not use the solicitor recommended by the agent. Any other option is better than this. In an entirely unscripted and unexpected moment of improvisation, Margot Robbie smacked Leonardo DiCaprio around the face during her Wolf of Wall Street audition.

Nestled at the foot of Spain’s Sierra Nevada mountains, Granada city is the provincial capital of Granada in Spain’s Andalucia region. As the trade center for wine in the La Rioja region, Logroño is known for its world-class Spanish wines and dining scene as well.

Lined with historic gardens, pretty Paseo del Espolón is the best place to join locals for the early evening stroll known as the paseo.

The capital of the Navarra region, Pamplona is known the world over as the site of the annual “Running of the Bulls” held during the Fiesta de San Fermín. For visitors not interested in risking life and limb dodging bulls through crowded streets, however, it’s best to avoid the city during the week-long festival in early July. Pamplona has plenty to offer visitors the other 51 weeks of the year. In addition to the city’s Old Quarter with its pretty park and historic churches, the Museum of Navarra is a can’t-miss attraction.

Housed in a 16th-century hospital, the museum boasts an impressive collection of Roman artifacts and mosaics as well as 13th-century murals, Renaissance paintings and Goya’s portrait of the Marqués de San Adrián.

Located in central Spain, Salamanca owes its breathtaking beauty to the nearby sandstone quarries from which many of the city’s buildings were constructed. The Ultimate Spring Vegetable Recipes

Raspberry Doughnuts Makes six doughnuts and 10 doughballs

300g white bread flour, 7g (1 sachet) fast-action yeast,

¼tsp table salt, 20g caster sugar, 2 eggs, 70ml milk, 60g unsalted butter, softened, 500ml vegetable oil.

For the glaze: 150g raspberries, 1 red grapefruit, juiced, 300g ready-made fondant icing. First, make the dough by mixing together the flour, yeast, salt and sugar, then adding the eggs, milk and butter. Knead for five to 10 minutes until you have a smooth, elastic dough, then place in a bowl greased with a little oil and cover. Once the dough has doubled in volume, oil your worksurface and a rolling pin, then roll out the dough to make a rectangle roughly 18cm by 27cm. Use a 9cm round cookie-cutter to cut out six circles and a 3cm cutter to chop out the middle.

Carefully transfer the rings and balls to well-oiled trays and cover.

Chop up the remaining scraps of dough into more balls, these will be just as tasty, if slightly deformed. Once the dough has again doubled in size, heat the oil to 170C in a large saucepan.

Move your tray close to the surface of the oil and, two or three at a time, gently slide in the doughnuts. They should take about 45 seconds on each side to reach a lovely hazelnut colour. Remove from the oil, cool on a wire rack and repeat the process until all the dough is cooked. For the glaze, mash the raspberries, then sieve finely to remove the seeds. Add the grapefruit juice and boil the mix until it has halved in volume. Break up the fondant into small chunks in a bowl and microwave for 20 seconds at a time, pausing to stir – it will quickly thicken – then stir in 60g of the fruit puree. Keep stirring until it’s smooth and glossy To serve, dip the doughnuts in the glaze and garnish with grapefruit zest.

Poached Chicken with Spring Vegetables

Ingredients

Serves: 4 4 skinned, boned chicken breasts, about 125 g (4½ oz) each 900 ml (1 pint 12 fl oz) chicken stock 3 tablespoons dry sherry, or dry white wine 1 bouquet garni 650 g (1 lb 7 oz) mixed vegetables, such as asparagus, baby sweetcorn, broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, leeks and savoy cabbage To garnish: chopped fresh parsley

Method

Prep: 10min › Cook:25min › Ready in:35min Place the chicken breasts, stock, sherry or wine and the bouquet garni in a large flameproof casserole or a deep frying pan over a high heat. Bring the liquid to the boil, then lower the heat, cover and poach the chicken for 20 minutes, skimming off any foam as necessary.

Meanwhile, cut the vegetables into bite-size pieces.

After the chicken has been poaching for 20 minutes, add the vegetables to the pan, cover and continue cooking for 5 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender and the chicken juices run clear when the breasts are pierced.

Remove the bouquet garni. Spoon the broth and vegetables into large, shallow bowls and top with the chicken, whole or sliced as you prefer. Sprinkle with parsley and serve

Lamb’s lettuce salad The only cooking required here is to boil the eggs but this clever, delicate salad is more than the sum of its parts.

Serves 4 eggs 3 of the best you can get lamb’s lettuce 200g garlic ¼ clove salt herb and wine vinegar 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil 3 tbsp carrot 1 Hard boil the eggs. Wash the leaves, give them a shake or gentle spin and leave them on a clean towel on the bench to dry.

Crush the garlic with a pinch of salt and stir it into 1 tbsp vinegar and 3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil.

Peel the carrot and slice it thinly on the bias and then slice again into matchsticks. Carefully mix

the leaves and carrot with the dressing and serve with the sliced eggs.

Artichokes and lettuce Serves 4 artichokes 6 lemon 1 breadcrumbs 4 tbsp olive oil 2 tbsp, plus some for crumbs red onion ½ garlic 2 cloves salt a pinch chilli 1 dried lettuce 1, robust, such as Romaine dried wild oregano 2 tbsp Remove the tough outer leaves from the artichokes and trim the tops. Trim the stalks and peel them and the base of the artichokes. Cut in half and use a teaspoon to remove the choke.

Cut each half into 4. Cut the lemon in half and rub on the artichokes if you care about them discolouring.

Heat the oven or gill. Coat the breadcrumbs with some oil and toast until golden.

Peel and slice the onion and garlic. Heat 2 tbsp of oil in a wide pan and sweat them with a pinch of salt and the chilli. When soft, add the artichokes and continue to cook over a medium heat, stirring. Wash and slice the lettuce in half and then each half into 6. Once the artichokes are mostly cooked add the lettuce, the oregano and a squeeze of lemon.

Cook stirring for 5 minutes and serve at once with the breadcrumbs, sit back and enjoy!!!

If you leave out the booze this Creme Egg milkshake is a cheap, quick and easy treat come Easter Sunday that the little ones can enjoy for dessert. Top with half a Creme Egg or even grate some chocolate over the top of the foamy whipped cream topping for a posh finish. Chocolate ice cream would work just as well in this recipe as an extra chocolaty milkshake twist.

Apple And Manchego Ingredients ¼ ciabatta (about 150 g) 1 tbsp garlic oil 1 apple, cored and cut into 16 wedges 50 g mancheo cheese, cut into 8 cubes 1 tbsp snipped fresh chives Method Cut the ciabatta into eight cubes, trimming the edges so the cubes sit straight on a board.

Heat a griddle pan until really hot. Brush the ciabatta cubes with the garlic oil and griddle for two to three minutes, turning until lightly charred all over.

Remove and put onto a board.

Add the apple wedges to the griddle pan and cook for two to three minutes, turning halfway until lightly charred.

To assemble, top each cube of bread with two slices of apple, a cube of cheese and a sprinkle of chives. Secure with a cocktail stick and serve.

Remove the bones and reserve 1.5 ltr stock for other dishes. Either leave the vegetables in the remaining broth and mash them, or add fresh vegetables later. Add 2 handfuls of pearl barley and simmer until just tender, adding a little more

water, if necessary. Prepare and cook fresh vegetables, if using – carrot, onion, celery and fennel, all finely sliced, work well: sauté in olive oil, then add to the barley for the last 10 minutes. Season and serve with salsa verde.

Mushroom risotto Heat 2 tbsp olive oil in a pan and add 1 finely chopped onion.

Cook until translucent; add 300g risotto rice and 1 tbsp butter.

add 150ml white wine and let it bubble, stirring. Slowly add up to 1 ltr hot chicken stock, stirring and waiting until absorbed before adding more. Rehydrate dried ceps in boiling water, or sauté sliced button mushrooms in butter.

Add to pan when rice is cooked, plus scraps of shredded chicken, a handful of parsley and 50g butter. Stir, season and serve with parmesan.

Sales of Organic Food and Drink Up

Demand for organic food and drink has risen for the fifth year in a row. Annual UK sales were up 7.1 per cent in 2016 to top £2billion for the first time, a report found. Much of the rise was driven by high street chains including Pret a Manger, McDonald’s – which uses organic milk – Nando’s and Jamie’s Italian. Clare McDermott of the Soil Association, which published the figures, said: ‘It’s a positive time for organic as it ticks lots of boxes for consumers.

‘Organic is extremely relevant for trends towards eating better food, knowing where you’re food comes from, avoiding pesticides or antibiotics and ‘free from’ diets.

‘Increasingly, we’re seeing consumers chose organic as a shortcut to a healthy lifestyle and

Spotlight Spanish 5 Marmalade Awards Products and Flavors

There are some very interesting activities shaping up for Spain’s Day, in celebration of Spanish gastronomy, organized thanks to Foods & Wines From Spain.

At the Rising Stars Revue event, to be held in Denver on April 25th and organized by StarChefs magazine, more than 700 people are expected to attend, among them consumers, chefs, journalists, VIPs, and other sector professionals. The magazine highlights popular chefs, and the online version even won the “Best of the Web” award from Forbes, US News & World Report, and USA Today.

Spanish flavors will be present thanks to the attendance of a chef who will prepare and serve tapas made with Spanish

ingredients available in the US, the goal being to promote their use among professionals.

Also in line with efforts to promote Spanish food and wine, seminars will be held at two culinary schools in Colorado: Johnson & Wales University, in Denver, and Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts, in Boulder.

Both schools will host chefs, who will prepare tapas using typical products such as Sherry vinegar, Ibérico ham, olive oil and cheese. Spanish wines will also be sampled.

The objective is to teach future chefs about Spanish ingredients and wines and to encourage them to use those products in their cooking.

Spanish-Style Prawns with Fennel

SERVES 2 COOKS IN 35 MINUTES DIFFICULTY SUPER EASY Ingredients 2 cloves of garlic, 1 bulb of fennel, a few sprigs of fresh flat-leaf parsley, olive oil, 750 g ripe cherry tomatoes, 1 large wineglass of white wine, 10 large raw prawns, from sustainable sources, 1 lemon.

Method Peel and finely slice the garlic, then trim and slice the fennel. Pick and roughly chop the parsley leaves, and roughly chop the stalks.

Heat a good lug of oil in a saucepan and gently fry the garlic till golden.

Add the fennel and parsley stalks, then reduce the heat to low and sauté for 10 minutes, or until softened but not coloured.

Halve half the tomatoes, leaving the rest whole, then add to the pan with the wine.

Bring to the boil, then simmer for 5 to 10 minutes, or until thickened. If it’s too thick, add a splash of water.

Peel the prawns, leaving the tails on, then butterfly them by cutting along the back of each one and opening them out like a book.

Add to the pan and cook for 4 minutes, or until they’re cooked and pink.

Stir through parsley leaves and season.

Serve with lemon wedges and nice bread.

Raw or cooked, gracing a salad or sweetly stewed, fennel is a real joy to eat.

The Marmalade Awards and Festival, which was held just last month at the Dalemain Mansion & Historic Gardens, in Penrith, England, saw more than 2,000 homemade marmalades compete for top prizes. The event also included a wide range of exhibitions, shows, talks, and demonstrations.

Unsurprisingly, the list of winners was not without a Spanish company. LoRUSSo, a premium artisan marmalade company from Almería, took home a whole slew of honors, including a gold medal for its Lady Bitter Orange marmalade, made with organic

oranges from Seville. It also won silver and bronze medals for its Imperial Mandarin marmalade made with organic mandarins from Valle del Andarax in Almeria.

It received a second bronze medal for its artisan sweet orange marmalade and an honorable mention for its Lady Orange marmalade, made with the same organic mandarins.

This prestigious competition provided an outstanding opportunity for LoRUSSo to showcase its products, gain exposure, and raise its profile in a market where marmalade is a very popular product.

A new Australian analysis led by Victorian researchers indicates that more than half the alcohol we drink is consumed at 'risky' levels.

Beer, bottled wine and spirits were found to be most consumed beyond the limit Whether it's a glass of wine to help you unwind at the end of the working day, or meeting for a drink (or three) with friends or colleagues at work, alcohol is a regular fixture for many people around the world.

However, the report also found that liqueurs and cask wines are the alcohols drunk in the riskiest quantities.

Data for the analysis was collected via phone surveys in which respondents provided details of their drinking including when, how much and where.

ZURGENA TRAIN STATION AFTER RENOVATION, INSET THE STATION IN ITS FORMER STATE

ZURGENA STATION HOSTS SPRING MARKET

This Sunday, 30th April, sees the historic Zurgena railway station host their first Spring Market which will see traditional, regional customs going hand in hand with popular culture selling and exhibiting a wide variety of products. The initiative is organised by the Asociación de Empresarios de Lubrín, Zurgena y Arboleas (ALZA) in collaboration with the city of Zurgena.

Featured among the events is an exhibition of traditional costumes and a display of old farm implements, many of which will be seen for the first time by some of the younger generation while others will be taken back in time to recall some of the dances and tools from an earlier time, such as those used in tiling and weaving.

Dozens of shops and companies will be there on the day in the Renfe’s Zurgena Station including

fine examples of regional artisan pottery, homemade food products – especially sausages – clothes and traditional herbal products.

The adults will be able to enjoy an historical lecture by Isabel Sola called ‘What you didn’t know about Zurgena’, a conference hosted by Juan José Martínez and Diego Menchón on food, nutrients and organic farming and a poetry recital from Carmen Venteo López whilst the kids have a series of traditional games, magic shows and storytelling to keep them amused.

Commerce Councillor, Francisco Lopez, said he has been “delighted with the initiative that has been shown by the local businessmen and tradesmen, who will fill Sunday will a mix of tradition, enterprise and entertainment in the must-visit historical building of Zurgena Station.”

Following a period of surveillance by members of the Almería Guardia Civil, a 39 year old from Tabernas has been arrested for possession of marijuana.

The man was arrested on the N-340 in the Tabernas when police stopped his car after noticing a badly broken back window. One of the Guardia Civil officers immediately noticed a strong smell resembling marijuana and when asked if he was in possession of it or other

similar types of substance the driver replied that he didn’t.

With such an overpowering smell, officers refused to believe the man and began a search of the car’s interior where they immediately found a split plastic bag containing marijuana and a white powdery substance under the driver’s seat. It appears that the man had trodden on the bag in his haste to hide it and traces of the drugs were found on the soles of his shoes. The offices found

Chester Zoo teams up with University of Oxford for world class conservation research The UK’s number one zoo has teamed up with the world’s number one university to address key challenges in the conservation of endangered species.

Chester Zoo and the University of Oxford’s famous Wildlife Conservation Research Unit (WildCRU) have joined forces with the shared aim of delivering high-impact conservation research to address the global decline of biodiversity.

And throughout the year there are various events that bring colour and fun to the region, such as Carnival, music or food festivals, historical re-enactments and the traditional fairs and festivals which are held all over the region. But there are meat dishes, more common inland, and almond and fig cakes such as morgados or Dom Rodrigos, which go perfectly with the local almond liqueur or arbutus aguardente. Audi RS5 price and specs

The New RS5 will use a 2.9-litre turbo V6 with 443hp. Weighs 60kg less than its predecessor. Comes as standard with an RS-specific Virtual Cockpit system It’ll go on sale in summer 2017 Audi’s released the replacement for the high-performance RS5 coupe.

The new model lends a sportier image and vast reserves of power to the standard A5. It’ll use a new 2.9-litre V6 engine shared with the Porsche Panamera and weighs 60kg less than the old model.

This new German muscle car goes up against the likes of the BMW M4 and Mercedes-AMG C63.

The all-new 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6

produces 443hp and much more torque than the last car. The optional dynamic package allows for a 0-62mph time of 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 174mph.

On average, the RS5 can return 32.5mpg – a noticeable efficiency gain over the outgoing model thanks to having shed 60kg.

The engine is mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox and Audi’s quattro all-wheel drive.

Audi also offers the car with adjustable dampers, allowing drivers to switch between a soft ride when driving around town or a stiffer ride for more spirited driving by flicking a few options on the infotainment system.

Other technologies such as the headup display provide useful information to the driver while allowing them to keep their eyes on the road. Up to 30 driver assistance system help you stay out of trouble while taming this high-performance machine including lane departure, blind spot and collision warning.

The RS5 will be available to order in May with the first cars being delivered in the summer. Audi has yet to release official pricing, but expect to pay around £65,000-£70,000 for one of these high-performance monsters – similar to the pricing of the old model.

Viv overcame a six-month battle with leukaemia when he was with Swindon and he is looking pretty good for himself these days… and like Alex, certainly loves to have a chat about his playing days.

Viv and his wife Barbara are resident in Mojacar while Alex and his wife Rona have lived in Cantoria for the last 13 years.

Arsenal came from behind at Wembley to beat Manchester City 2-1 in their FA Cup semi-final meeting and set up an all-London final against Chelsea.

The entertaining game packed with chances was won in extra-time when Alexis Sanchez blasted in from close range. In normal time Sergio Aguero had put Man City ahead before Nacho Monreal equalised.

As it has been so often for Arsenal this season it was Sanchez who found the vital goal. A freekick was sent to the back post by Mesut Ozil and headed back across goal. Danny Welbeck completely miss-hit the ball when he should have scored but thankfully for Arsenal it dropped to Sanchez who took a touch and smashed the ball in from close range.

Magnificent Matic Willian scored twice as Chelsea booked their place in next month's FA Cup final with a 4-2 win over Tottenham at Wembley.

At the Demon’s core is the engine, a further upgrade on the already slightly mad Hellcat’s supercharged V8. Sharing the same 6166cc displacement, the Demon has a 2.7-litre supercharger running at a maximum boost pressure of 14.5psi to produce that incredible power figure of 828bhp. Torque is also huge at 770lb ft, giving Dodge the title of worlds most powerful production V8.

The supercharger is fed through a charge cooler that uses the Demon’s air conditioning system to reduce the intake temperature and increase its density and therefore power. Dodge claims this can reduce the intake

temperature by 7 degrees.

The Demon will also come with a separate power train module that will allow the engine to run on 100 plus octane fuel. A button within the vehicle will allow the driver to switch to an engine map that has been allows it to run on the race fuel. The Demon is designed for racing, drag racing that is. Everything in the car, and what’s been left out, is designed to help improve its quarter mile times. Firstly, the supercharger is preloaded and to increase power at lower revs and the Demon’s launch control is operated via the paddles rather than the brake pedal to reduce reaction times.

It also uses Bilstein adaptive suspension tuned specifically to

maximize weight transfer to the rear wheels to improve traction without sacrificing lateral stability. The propshaft and differential housing has been uprated over the item in the Hellcat to deal with more torque and the increased stresses of the new viscious launch procedure.

Dodge has revealed that the Demon will be 97.5kg lighter than the Challenger Hellcat, suggesting a total weight of 1795kg. To remove such a significant amount of weight Dodge has removed all the seats, except the one for the one used by the driver; Dodge has taken weight reduction very seriously. Binning the rear bench has saved 25kg while removing the passenger seat has saved a further 26.3kg. Inside the Demon only has two speakers, a manual adjustable steering wheel and far less sound deadening than other Challengers.

The extents to remove weight have found their way to the car’s chassis and brakes, too. However, these changes don’t sound quite as appealing.
